The word "hernia" comes from a Latin word meaning 'rupture.' Basically, a hernia is some kind of rupture.
Hernia is medically defined as: "Protrusion of an organ through an abnormal opening in the muscle wall of the cavity that surrounds it. A hernia may be congenital, may result from the failure of certain structures to close after birth, or may be acquired later in life because of obesity, muscular weakness, surgery, or illness." Mosby's Medical Dictionary, 3rd edition
Okay, since there are various kinds of hernias, let's study them:
Abdominal Hernia
An abdominal hernia is a hernia in which a loop of bowel protrudes through the abdominal structure, often through the site of an old surgical scar. It is also known as 'ventral hernia.'
Diaphragmatic Hernia
A diaphragmatic hernia is the protrusion of part of the stomach through an opening in the diaphragm, most commonly an abnormally enlarged esophageal hiatus. In some cases the intestines may also herniate into the chest. The enlargement of the normal opening for the esophagus may be caused by trauma, congenital weakness, increased abdominal pressure, or relaxation of ligaments of skeletal muscles, and permits part of the stomach to slide into the thorax. A sliding hiatus hernia, one of the most common pathologic conditions of the upper GI tract, may occur at any age but is most frequent in elderly and middle-aged people. A kind of diaphragmatic hernia is hiatus hernia.
Femoral Hernia
A femoral hernia is a hernia in which a loop of the intestine descends through the femoral canal into the groin.
Hiatus Hernia
A hiatus hernia is a protrusion of a portion of the stomach upward through the diaphragm. The condition occurs in about 40% of the population, and most people display few, if any, symptoms. The major difficulty in symptomatic patients is gastroesophageal reflux, the backflow of the acid contents of the stomach into the esophagus.
Inguinal Hernia
Inguinal hernia is a hernia in which a loop of the intestine enters the inguinal canal, sometimes filling, in a male, the entire scrotal sac. Of all hernias, 75% to 80% are inguinal hernias.
"An inguinal hernia is a rupture in the lower abdomen. In an inguinal hernia, the tissue or muscle at the lower end of the abdominal cavity is either congenitally weak or has become weak from lifting, coughing, or straining with bowel movements. A sac of peritoneum (the membrane that lines the abdominal cavity) containing fat or part of the bowel protrudes through the weak part of the abdominal wall. This protrusion is the hernia." Dr. Morton Walker
An inquinal hernia so large that it passes into the scrotum is called a scrotal hernia.
Umbilical Hernia
Umbilical hernia is a soft, skin-covered protrusion of intestine and omentum through weakness in the abdominal wall around the umbilicus. It usually closes spontaneously within 1 to 2 years. This hernia commonly occurs in newborns (new babies).
Herniated Disk
Herniated disk is a rupture of the fibrocartilage surrounding an invertebral disk, releasing the nucleus pulposus that cushions the vertebrae above and below. The resultant pressure on spinal nerve roots may cause considerable pain and damage the nerves. The condition most frequently occurs in the lumbar region.
Metaphysical Causes of Hernia
For every disease or adverse health challenge there is a metaphysical diagnosis and hernia is no exception. According to fellow metaphysician Lise Bourbeau, "a hernia indicates a feeling of being concerned. There is a desire to get out of a given situation through separation of a break-up, but there is also an underlying fear of missing out on a material level in doing so."
In addition, "Rather than imprisoning yourself in an undesirable situation, evaluate what it is you really want and need. Understand that it is only your belief system that imprisons you and leads you to believe you can't get out of this by yourself. Your body is telling you that you are self-contained and have what it takes to get what you want. Take one step at a time and you will achieve your desires."
Now for males, the metaphysical causation for inguinal or scrotal hernia deals with one thing: "having balls" (being brave, exerting masculinity). When there's an imbalance here, the body will speak via metaphor via the testicles. Trying to do too much as a man, or constantly having to prove yourself as a man (or proving your manhood) strains you on an energetic and emotional level and the physical manifestation may be inguinal or scrotal hernia.
Developed muscles are equated with masculinity in our society and many males will take to the gym to develop their muscles and oftentimes in lifting weights in order to develop muscles, men will go overboard and over lift and thus strain themselves. And as I stated earlier, lifting can cause the tissue or muscle at the lower end of the abdominal cavity to become weak.
However, lifting as a requirement on the job can also result in scrotal hernia for males. We still equate physical job activity with masculinity in our society.
If males feel they are carrying a burden, one that applies to their manhood (ability to provide for their woman and family), hernia can result as a sign that the burden needs to stop being lifted and carried and relaxation is needed.
If a man is blinded by power or possessed with the desire for extraordinary physical power (usually stemming from physical activity such as weight-lifting), inguinal or scrotal hernia may result.
Natural Healing For Hernia
Under allopathic medicine or allopathic medical approaches, hernias are repaired via the process of surgery, which is a big money maker for the Western medical cartel and industrial complex.
Hernias (all kinds) take time to heal and within this time period for natural healing the lesson hernias denote should be learned and actually must be learned if healing is to take place, for every disease and injury conveys a message (which is usually conveyed via the body for the body speaks via metaphor).
For a brief period of time, consider a RAW FOODS diet (for all kinds of hernias)! Abstain from eating acidic foods which are processed, refined, and cooked foods. For raw food recipes and living, see our Dietary Choices section (under More Services on the home page).
Eat plenty of raw, organic fruits (especially mango and papaya) and vegetables. Consume plenty of raw fruit and vegetable juice as well!
Drinking 1-2 ounces of Aloe Vera juice daily will also help.
Refrain from consuming acidic beverages, beverages such as coffee, soda pop, wine/alcohol/beer, lattes, milk, Gatorade, commercial brand fruit beverages, etc. (for all kinds of hernias). Instead, drink plenty of alkaline water (see article on Alkaline Water) and herbal teas (see Dherbs.com Herbal Teas section in the on-line store).
Perform the Full Body Detox followed by the 10-Day Electric Greens Cell Food Cleanse and lastly, the 10-Day Supreme Colon Cleanser which is extremely important for healing most herniated challenges. Do this for all hernias except for umbilical hernias.
Massage Healing Skin Oil into the hernia or herniated area (all hernias, including the umbilical area if the baby has a hernia in the navel area).
NOTE: Umbilical hernias usually reduce to normal or near normal within a year or two so parents, especially mothers, shouldn't worry. I experienced this with my second son Ajani who was born with an umbilical hernia. I would advise all worried and concerned mothers not to waste their time worrying about a child's umbilical hernia because it reduces in time on its own and there's really nothing you can do about it (without harming the child). However, worrying doesn't help one bit. My son's umbilical hernia reduced on its own, but of course we are health conscious and our diet is plant-based so this aided Ajani.
You don't have to tape a quarter over the protruding navel as old timers used to do. If anything, you can tape a flat-shaped clear quartz crystal over the herniated area from time to time to facilitate healing.
From time to time, gently massage the baby's abdomen and stomach with natural oil (coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil) or shea butter, massaging the area in a circular motion.
NOTE: Do not feed a baby grains or honey for the first 2 years of life! Grains are too hard on the baby's digestive tract and digestion process.
When there is hiatus or hiatal hernia, the condition is due to too much acid in the body (gastrointestinal tract) due to acidic diet which results from meat, dairy, and refined grain consumption. Too much acid (from poor diet) in the body throws of the natural acidity level of the stomach and GI tract.
In hiatus hernia situations, one needs to first perform the Full Body Detox followed by the 10-Day Electric Greens Cell Food Cleanse and after completion of these 2 kits (which should be performed back-to-back) a new diet needs to be practiced, a new diet consisting of more raw foods, especially green foods. See Dietary Choices section (under More Services on the home page).
Drink plenty of vegetable juice daily too. A beneficial recommended daily herbal regimen for hiatus hernia include Acid Buster, Electric Greens Cell Food and Colon Formula.
One can counteract any over-acidic situation and issue by consuming more alkalizing foods and beverages.
Perform the Sea Salt soak daily (for all hernias, umbilicus hernia is optional)!
Colonic hydrotherapy is highly recommended (for all hernias except umbilicus hernia).
Reiki, pranic healing, acupuncture/acupressure, and magnet therapy are all highly recommended for healing purposes of all hernias (umbilicus hernias are optional should a parent choose to use one of these healing modalities). Choose the modality that you feel is best for you or that gives your relief and aids in your healing process.
NOTE: When using magnets, never apply the South side to the body as South stimulates and North is healing. Always use the North side of a magnet.
When there is inguinal hernia, a male should perform the Full Body Detox, followed by the 10-Day Supreme Colon Cleanser, and lastly, the Total Male Cleanse (in this order and back-to-back-to back).
"One method a man can use to examine himself for an inguinal hernia is to stand before a mirror with his genitals in view. Cough hard and strain. Watch the area just above the scrotum and note any bulge that appears. A bulge may be a hernia. A lump of any size under the pubic hair can indicate an inguinal hernia. It is possible for the lump to disappear when you lie down, as the loop of intestine may fall back into the abdominal cavity. Exertion may bring on lower abdominal pain, which might radiate to the testes. Bring anything unusual to the attention of a doctor." Dr. Morton Walker
Dr. Walker also gives information for an examination for scrotal hernia:
"An inguinal hernia so large that it passes into the scrotum is called a scrotal hernia. This type of hernia can be detected by examining the scrotum with a bright beam of light. Unwrinkle the scrotum by stretching it, then shine a flashlight beam against and through the sac. A hernia will be opaque rather than translucent to the beam. Grasp the root of the sac between your thumb and forefinger to see if there is any unusual thickness or bulging. Insert your index finger into the subcutaneous inguinal ring by gently pushing upward through the scrotum; feel for a cough impulse from any possible hernia. If you feel or see something suspicious, consult a physician."
After performing the Dherbs.com cleanses above, a good daily regimen includes taking the following herbal compounds: Prostate Formula, Male Hormonal Formula, Bowel Mover, and Headache and Pain Formula.
Perform the Sea Salt Soak as often as you can.
When there is herniated disk, perform the Full Body Detox followed by the Nerves Cleanse (available soon) and afterwards, take daily Nerves Formula (capsules and tea), Headache and Pain Formula, Joint Formula, and Colon Formula. Drink 2-3 cups of Dherbs.com Headaches Tea daily.
Consider seeing a chiropractic!
Reiki, pranic healing, and acupuncture/acupressure are also recommended.
Sleeping on a magnetic pad is also helpful for healing in a herniated disk condition. Visit one of the following sites to order a magnetic mattress pad:

Get plenty of rest and stay off your feet as much as possible when there is herniated disk.
Periodically, place a hot pack on the herniated disk area. Alternate between cold pack and heat pack is you wish to do so.
Also, you can place green-colored crystals on the herniated disk area as well. The color green stimulates healing.
