Male Pattern Baldness

by Djehuty Ma'at-Ra

Tell a Friend

Male pattern baldness is a sign of Western living and/or lifestyle. Baldness, especially in middle age American men, is very common in America today. It is a sign of malnourishment and hormonal imbalance.

Lifestyle/Living habits

Poor (degenerate) lifestyle plays a very pivotal role or part in male baldness. I have male cousins who started balding in their late 20s and early 30s. I used to warn them about drinking all that beer, eating all that meat, treating their hair with chemicals, wearing those baseball caps on their head, and unrighteous living. Unfortunately, they just couldn't make the connection between balding and poor diet and lifestyle. But today, they're all ears because time proves and settles all things.

It is very common today to see young men in their 20s and 30s balding, or already sporting a bald spot, or even with gray or graying hair. While it may be normal today to see this, however, it is not natural.

There are many factors: meat (quasi protein), hormonal imbalance (excessive testosterone), mineral deficiency (mainly chromium, esp. in cases of graying hair), and mucus congestion in the head just to name a few and which I will cover under diet.

Baldness used to be indicative of middle age white males. Actually, baldness was a sign of wealth (in a strange way). Most wealthy white males could afford to eat excessive meat on a daily basis. They smoked cigarettes and cigars and drank liquor (alcohol and beer) daily or frequently. They also wore hats on their head frequently as well. Professor Hilton Hotema attributes the foregoing as the major cause of baldness in white males, especially middle age white males that were financially well off. Djehuty concurs with Professor Hotema.

When I used to work in corporate America and would visit the business offices in Downtown Los Angeles, while riding in the elevators or waiting at intersections to cross the street, I always noticed the white men in suits (businessmen or corporate executives). They were in business attire, carried a brief case, and many of them smoked cigarettes. The top of their heads had a very bright shine. I often thought to myself how do these men feel to have a patch of hair missing from the top of their heads? It looked so strange to me. But then truth hit me, this is the price they paid and were paying for their wealthy and privileged, and not to mention, fast-paced lifestyles.

But I also couldn't help to notice the number of African-American male that were bald, especially the ones who worked in Downtown Los Angeles and who were businessmen. Now this really perplexed me, because balding was not indicative of Black men. But then it also dawned on me on how integration allowed Blacks to experience the privileged lifestyles white males had always enjoyed. This included luxurious living and gluttonous eating. But I also noticed that with many of these bald headed African-American males, they were young. Now many of these young bald brothers were not wealthy and enjoying luxurious living, but they were eating a lot of meat, smoking cigarettes, and drinking beer and wine. But one thing that I greatly knew about Black bald-headed brothers that they were experiencing that most wealthy white males were not experiencing (or not experiencing to the same degree) and that was STRESS!

Yes, stress will make a man's (and a woman's) hair fall out. Stress is unnatural. God never intended for us to experience the levels of stress we are experiencing today. The stress we are experiencing today comes from our own making. Fast life and living and deviation from God's natural way of living are sure to bring on stress.

I know this for a fact and experienced it myself in my younger years. But thanks to my eyes being opened at an early age and a thirst and hunger for knowledge and righteous living, I switched modes of living and began to experience peace, serenity, tranquility, quietude, and bliss at once. Most of my former stress was caused by pursuing the material values of life, chasing money, women (sex), status, etc. These brought on great stress to me at a very young age. My priorities in life as a human being were not organized.

If you're a man and don't have your head on straight and stuff together as a man, human being, and child of God, certain females can cause a great deal of stress for you. This is very true when you are uncultivated as a male human being, but pursue women, mainly for one thing - SEX! Being uncultivated and unconscious, a man will pursue the worst woman simply because of looks (beauty) - big butt, thighs, hips, and/or breasts and a pretty face. The outer frame is looking tight (nice), but the internal makeup is horrendous. If men would only get to know that internal makeup before pursuing the physical frame, they'd save themselves a lot of trouble. I learned this the hard way at age 25. After my experience with a very young and very beautiful and attractive young lady who was very mentally and psychologically unstable, former R&B group New Edition's Bell, Biv, Devoe's song Poison took on new meaning to me. It was my motto and I lived by it.

Now I won't go into detail on this particular subject because it's another story in and of itself. It's not to say that women are the source of men's problems or stress, but certain women out there in society are and they bring a lot of drama with them, i.e. constant fighting and arguing, fatal attraction syndrome, child support and custody battles, getting you locked up by calling 911 (police) on you, harassing you, provoking you to hit them, etc. This can bring major stress into a man's life and cause the hair to fall out or turn gray, or both! It really can and it happens all the time. And let's not forget that monster called finances. I know a lot of males, young and old, stressed out over finances. It's no joke! The cost of living in America is no joke and if you're in a relationship or married and have children too, like rap group Public Enemy said, Welcome to the Terrordome. And that's for real!

Credit card bills, utility bills, car note(s), mortgage or home loan bill, college loans, insurance (medical, automobile, etc.), IRS-owed debt, parking and traffic tickets, and child support and/or alimony payments to name a few, can really turn up the heat on stress for men. My older brother is one year older than me and looks like he's in his late 50s. He's only 35 years of age. Stress has apprehended and claimed him. He was living beyond his means, attempting to live and experience the American dream only to discover the reality of the American nightmare.

My family, especially my male cousins, used to always tease me in my early awakening stages in consciousness. I was the uninspiring one they thought. Mr. righteous! Baby Farrakhan! Hater of the white man's world and way of life! Mr. antisocial! Mr. Slim Trim Dexatrim afraid to lift weights and work out in the gym! Book lover! Mr. Conservative! Black man who listens to classical music! No, Djehuty was always the wise one of the family, heeding my father's advice given to me as a little boy to live simple and within my means, to not use credit to buy things but to be patient and work smart and hard and to save my money and buy my things outright. I appreciate and love my father for this early advice. I was truly blessed to have a real father, wholistic as a father in every sense of the word. I saw my father's stress life put on him. He was a living example to me. Actually, it was my father who told me as a little boy that worrying makes your hair turn gray. I actually love and value my father more in death than in life, because now that he's gone (physically), I really see his value, especially since I have witnessed the truth of his words.

Moving along with our topic of discussion, you have brothers (and other men of other races and nationalities too) out there in society stealing, lying, cheating, conniving, hustling, hiding their true identities (game-facing), committing adultery and fornicating, selling their souls for unrighteousness, disrespecting life, robbing, raping, and murdering for one reason or another and the automatic byproduct of these types of unrighteous activities, if death does not catch up to them, is stress! Lying is stressful. Cheating is stressful. Pretending to be more than you really are is stressful. Worrying about being caught in your wickedness or unrighteousness is stressful. I'm telling you, stress causes premature aging! A sign of premature aging is gray hair and thinning hair (balding).

You see, your head is like the earth and your hair is like the grass and vegetation in the earth. When you are grounded (spiritually), your hair is rooted firmly. It is nourished and fed. It is luxuriant and resilient, very healthy and dark in its natural color or tint. But when you are not grounded, the grass (hair) is not firmly rooted. It falls out easily and because it is not properly fed or nourished, the color changes too. When green grass begins to die, does it not turn brown? When black, brown, or blond hair begins to die, does it not turn gray? Green grass lacking nutrition will surely change color, likewise with human hair. Color is a signal whether you know it or not.

So one of the greatest things a man can do to prevent or correct male pattern baldness is to eradicate stress from his life early on. There's no excuse! Stress is preventable. I am a 34 years of age Black man living in America and I have no stress in life. My only stress comes (sometimes) from dealing with other people and their problems. Really, my life is stress-free and I am subject to the same things as other males in general, Black or African-American males in particular. However, I turned to my Creator and within myself a long time ago and truly learned how to shun the world (Matrix). I stopped reading about seeking the Kingdom of Heaven and of God, and began to practice it. While many talk it and profess it out loud, I live it day in and day out and that's why I don't have a single problem in life at the moment and/or a single problem that could arise that I cannot go within myself and call on God and solve that problem, whatever it is! And because I don't live in fear (of government, death, loss of possessions, etc.), I am free! And because I am free I have peace and I wouldn't trade it in for anything in the world!

But more importantly, as an herbalist, I learned that prevention is better than cure. I also began to see and understand this in regards to life. Righteous living on a daily basis! When the FBI asked me while they were interrogating me a few years back why I was so calm, I told them, I live righteous, I haven't done anything wrong! My calm disposition really perplexed them. One agent asked me how he could learn to be calm like myself. I told him to get a good night's sleep every single night. He asked me what's the secret to a good night's sleep? I told him, a clear conscience. That's right! The best remedy for a good night's sleep is a clear conscience! The agent then asked me, How do you obtain a clear conscience? I said Easy, daily righteous living and conduct! As an agent for the criminal United States government, I guess he knew that was out of the question.

But enough said on righteous living and habits. It truly makes the biggest difference in stress eradication. It truly does! You don't have to die and go to heaven. The answers to a stress-free life are contained within the pages of all sacred texts - the Bible, the Holy Qur'an or Koran, the Dhammapada, The Rig Veda, The Bhagavad-Gita, the Analects (of Confucius), The Book of Coming Forth by Day, etc. Live out the pages of these books and watch the difference! You won't be a saint (I'm no saint), but you'll be on the path and that's the most important thing. Remember, nobody's perfect, and most certainly not me. You need some standard or yardstick that measures your morality and ethics and which also serves as the foundation for your morals and ethics. I personally chose the Book of Proverbs due to all the wise advice it gives, especially to men.

STRESS BUSTER suggestions: To combat/prevent stress, I recommend (1) Yoga (deep breathing), (2) meditation, (3) massage therapy, (4) aromatherapy, (5) herbal therapy, (6) crystal therapy, (7) imaginative therapy (or positive thinking), and (8) laughter.

Yoga (deep breathing) works wonders against stress. It really does! Yoga really helped me to eradicate stress, especially the stress that came from doing law and fighting legal battles.

Meditation creates mental blocks to thoughts that lead to stress. Meditation can also lead to answers or solutions to problems that are the source of stress.

Massage therapy (my favorite) is excellent in combating stress. Massage can release negative energy stored at a cellular (and tissue) level which serves as an attracter of situations that bring on stress.

Aromatherapy is very effective in relieving stress. Essential oils of Lavender (all varieties), Amyris, Aniseed [Star], Benzoin [absolute], Cananga, Champaca, Pink Grapefruit, Lisea Cubeba, Valerian, and Vanilla help to reduce stress. These oils can be mixed together and inhaled or diffused in a diffuser. Aromatherapy works within seconds (2 seconds to be exact, when inhaled).

Herbal therapy (also my favorite along with massage) provides many wonderful herbs that help the body to adapt to stressful situations and also to increase resistance to stress, as well as herbs that relieve stress. Herbs such as Kava Kava, Valerian Root (Nature's valium), St. John's Wort, Passionflower, Lavender flower, Blue Vervain, Wild Lettuce, Jatamansi, Hops, Scullcap, Cinnamon, Chamomile, and Oatstraw greatly help to counteract stress and the damaging effects stress has on the body. I make an awesome nervine tea that consists of Valerian root, Kava Kava, Cinnamon chips, Yerba Mat, and Stevia which really relaxes me throughout the day. It's almost narcoleptic in effect and it tastes great. Adaptogenic herbs include: Ginseng root (all varieties), Astragalus, Suma and Hawthorn berries.

Crystal therapy, though greatly misunderstood, especially be religious people, can provide immense relief of stress on an energetic level. Stress causes misalignment of the charkas, which causes imbalance. Crystals or gemstones such as Amethyst, Bloodstone, Cacite, Celestite (one of my favorite stones/crystals, very angelic); Hematite, Malachite, Moonstone, Obsidian, Peridot, Rhodonite, Rose Quartz (another favorite stone of mine); and Sugalite to name just a few, greatly help reduce stress. Crystals (stones) were used to make the Holy Breastplate that you read about in the Bible in Exodus 28:17-21: And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row. And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their inclosings. And the stones shall be with the names of the Children of Israel, Crystals cannot be demonic or ungodly if God him/herself instructed the Aaronic Priesthood to use them for purposes of a sacred and protective breastplate. Amethyst is a very spiritually strengthening and protective stone. In fact, amethyst is my favorite crystal and my domicile is full of the spiritually healing and protective vibration of amethyst. It is great in eradicating stress!

Imaginative therapy, which is using the imagination as a therapy, is nothing but positive thinking! Stressful situations are the result of unconscious thoughts that create or lead to stress. Negative people have a lot of stress in their lives. They don't understand that events follow energy. Stress-filled energy leads to stressful events. Plain and simple! Start thinking positive on a daily basis! When negative thoughts pop up in your mind, pinch or slap your wrist or arm as a reminder not to entertain such thoughts. By doing this, you're programming yourself that negative thinking results in punishment (or pain). Positive thinking and thoughts greatly help to eradicate stress.

Laughter, or Vitamin L, is excellent for eradicating stress. Did you know that every time you smile and laugh, your body releases beneficial oils (such as DHEA) throughout your body that are anti-aging in nature and effect? But when you frown or are upset or angry, you utilize more than 300 muscles in the body in addition to your body producing detrimental gases that causes premature aging. So start smiling and laughing more. By all means, laughter is good for the soul.

Fashion

Hair needs exposure to sunshine or sunlight, so why cover it up? Constant wearing of hats (baseball caps, fedora hats, etc.) prevents natural sunlight the hair needs. Also, hair needs to breathe. It's alive! I have noticed that many males who wear baseball caps daily end up with graying hair or balding. Some men purposely cover up their heads due to graying or balding.

One of the most important factors in balding is harsh chemical processing of the hair, especially over the years. The Jheri curl phenomenon of the late 70s and early 80s really did a lot of damage to the head and hair (of African-Americans). The chemicals were so caustic that it literally burned the scalp off the head. Those chemicals used to burn like hell, but we didn't care. We wanted the curls for the girls. We actually got more than we bargained for, looking back on things.

Let's not forget the relaxers, perms, and texturizers. These too along with the Jheri curl wrecked havoc on our heads and our hair and the adverse side effect of these insidious hair styles is alopecia or male pattern baldness, especially in Black males. Some males have spots on their head where hair won't or cannot grow at all.

Constant hair cuts at the barbershop whereby the hair is cut very low (skin fade, near bald or bald) also plays a role in balding. The hair is cut so much that it is programmed to fall out over time. Back in my Nation of Islam days, I used to get my hair cut every week. Grooming is one thing, cutting off all the hair all the time is another!

By all means, avoid using hair pomades. Most of them are made from petroleum (liquid rock substance) that clogs the skin of the head and prevents the scalp from breathing. It is much better to use coconut oil or butter, shea butter, olive oil, or sesame seed oil. People from India have the best or most luxuriant hair because of what they use. When I learned of this through my studies, I immediately started using Indian or Ayurvedic hair products (Eclipta-Raj, Amla, Bringraj, etc.) on my hair and I haven't had a problem with my hair since. Not only are they derived from natural sources, they smell very good. Their use leads to very healthy and manageable hair.

Barbers always ask me what do I use on my hair. They notice the difference because they cut numerous heads of hair. One barber tried to be funny and asked if I used nuts and berries on my hair and I replied yes! Amla is Indian Gooseberry. The oils are based in carriers of coconut or sesame seed. However, I only get my hair cut every 2 months (sometimes every 3 months) and I never let the barbers slap on alcohol, talc or powder, and all that other dangerous stuff (hair spray and sheen) they commonly slap on your head after they finish cutting it. That stuff burns my head! It is very toxic and harmful!

Diet

A high alkaline diet will greatly neutralize stress. The body is impacted differently and responds differently when your body is alkaline. This is true and I've done the experiment on myself. When I was raw-fooding while engaged in law, otherwise stressful situations did not impact me like they did when I was not fasting or raw-fooding. Most people who are stressed in life are acidic! A high alkaline diet would consist of eating plenty of green veggies (i.e. salad, tabouli) and would exclude meat, dairy products and starches. Rapper KRS-One said in a rap song entitled Beef (Edutainment CD/album, c. 1990) that the animals we eat live under fear and stress. KRS-One was on the money with this assertion, because the animals that you do eat live under constant fear and stress (knowing they are going to be slaughtered), and remember, you are what you eat and donít release (or eliminate).

Consuming meat and dairy products play a pivotal role in male pattern baldness. Balding (or alopecia) is indicative of too much quasi protein in the body.

Avoid sugar, table salt, vinegar, alcoholic beverages, eggs, smoking (esp. cigarettes and cigars), soda pop, refined grains, all drugs (legal and illegal) and complex carbohydrate products. These things impair overall health and will hasten the hair to thin, gray and bald.

Male pattern baldness is also indicative of male hormonal imbalance. Male pattern baldness is indicative of lack of testosterone. Why do some women grow hair on their chest and/or develop little mustaches? Answer: hormonal imbalance. These women have too much testosterone in their bodies and testosterone promotes hair growth. So since testosterone promotes hair growth and is necessary for male hair growth, lack of hair growth simply implies hormonal imbalance due to lack of testosterone.

This is why I stated previously that meat and dairy products play a pivotal role in balding. Meat and dairy are derived from FEMALE animals and the dominating hormone for female development is estrogen. When men get too much estrogen in their bodies, the estrogen will interfere with the dominating male hormone for development, which is testosterone, and will create an imbalance.

Male hormonal imbalance as well as male pattern baldness can be reversed or helped with herbs. Sarsaparilla serves as a hormone precursor to help counteract male pattern baldness. It is also contains testosterone precursors and promotes the production of testosterone in the testicles. Licorice root is a dynamic hormonal herb and will balance the hormonal system and increase the production of male hormones including testosterone. African Yohimbe, the most effective aphrodisiac herb, is a hormone stimulant and is very effective in the production of testosterone. As Yohimbe is a very powerful herb, you must know how to balance this herb. Yohimbe is too powerful to be taken by itself. Its best to add it to a herbal compound, which is what I do. Tribulis (or Goksura) is a profound Ayurvedic (Indian) herb and is great for the stimulation of the production of testosterone. Ashwagandha is also very effective in promoting the production of testosterone. I can't forget about potency wood Muira Puama, a great aphrodisiacal herb. It is a male toning herb that invigorates the testicles and therefore stimulates the production of testosterone. Damiana is an aphrodisiacal herb that is a great enhancer of testosterone production. I will end here as I have a whole herbal aphrodisiac apothecary in my head and the herbs mentioned supra are enough and can and will get the job done.

Hair nourishing herbs include: Horsetail, Nettles, Rosemary, Sage, Alma (Indian Gooseberry), Maidenfern, and Bringraj (Gotu Kola).

It's best to eat plenty of green leafy vegetables, raw organic fruit, and whole grains and to drink plenty of water for optimal overall health and hair health.

Male pattern baldness (alopecia) is 100% preventable! You simply can't do better until you know better. Know you know so make the choice! Thank you for reading!
