The fact that the CIA is using its own VC firm (In-Q-Tel) to fund the monitoring company gives them an unfair advantage in the VC industry. I knew about In-Q-Tel, which was launched in 1999, from a USA TODAY article on March 27, 2004. It receives over 1000 business plans annually and has a 95-98% success rate.

COINTELPRO has mutated to where intelligence services (including assassinations) are being outsourced and privatized.

Now I've learned that, according to sources, In-Q-Tel did inject a round of capital into Facebook. I think this explains why the founder was the youngest ever to reach the FORBES 400 so quickly. The VC firm has such a high success rate, who can compete with it?

Is anyone surprised?  Everyone from potential employers to the police and the IRS monitor blogs and social networking sites for information about you.

They can gather information about a persons employment history, schools, friends, location, and current state of mind all in one place.  Too many people post information on these sites that should be kept private.

You don't need a search warrant to find out about people's bad deeds anymore, they post it all online.

It's not shocking at all that face book and myspace is monitored by the "authorities" I wouldn't be shocked to fine out that the whole concept of social networking site's weren't created by the powers that be. The internet itself was created and used by the military for years long before the public got in on it. Fun fact: a quick google search of someone's first and last name or their email address will get you EVERY site they signed up for under that address, not just my space or face book but photo bucket, and you tube accounts as well.
