Guess I'll keep my money in my pocket for this one.
Never been a fan of skits like this. Is this the only way Hollywood can recognize black talent? Plus, why do Oprah and Tyler Perry feel the only way to make money is through exploiting black pain?
If Mo'Nique does receive an Academy Award, I hope she rejects it. Sick and tired of black folks having to take "nigga roles" to get the cracker's seal of approval.

I admit I watched the movie at a friends house on a dvd quality bootleg and I was expecting to be crying my eyes out after reading all the replies. And I'm sad to say I wasn't and I normally can be very emotional when it comes to these things.......so I don't know if maybe the movie in the theater maybe showed a little more or because I already knew what to expect it didn't hit me as hard. There were a few parts that had me choked up, but other parts made me more angry like toward the end when the mom explained how she let things happen, that made me really upset. The movie showed a very sad case of abuse that unfortunately does happen out here no matter what people think or believe. I will read the book to get the full effect of it all.
I think this movie was great and yeah, Mo' nique deserves recognition for her work, she was very believable. Gabby was excellent as well and I was impressed because this was her first role in a film. I think everybody will get something different from this movie depending on the level of experience they have with dealing with the issues portrayed. People were crying openly and applauded at the end in the movie theater.
