Annually observed on November 3rd, National Sandwich Day honors one of America’s most popular lunch items. Interestingly enough, the name “sandwich” is believed to be the namesake of John Montagu, The 4th Earl of Sandwich. He actually claimed that he invented the sandwich.

 

As a rumor in a travel book suggests, Montagu was an avid gambler. He refused to take meal breaks during his long hours at the tables playing cards. Instead of leaving, he would ask his servants to bring him slices of meat between two slices of bread. Needless to say, this quickly became a trend and fellow gamblers began ordering “the same as Sandwich.” And that’s how the sandwich was born.

 

We aren’t gamblers, but we sure do love a good sandwich, especially since there are so many variations of this classic meal. Try making one or more of the following recipes and let us know how they turned out in the comments below.

    Q: I am on my 3rd day of the fully body cleansing. I am definitely doing this to lose weight. I am a 52 year old, black, Christian, wife, mother to 21 and 14 year old girls, legal secretary who is 450 lbs. I am to the point now where if I don't do this I'm going to be housebound. I can barely move some days that is why I started this because I feel so unhealthy. I have a question about the nuts. I got all gun-ho and ordered $135.00 worth of organic nuts from nuts.com. I got raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios and cashews and mixed them all up together (well I purchased 2 lbs of each but I only mixed up 1 lb of each together). Anyway, I was reading about how much calories are in nuts. Should I not pay attention to that because I was consuming a lot of calories in the first place or do I have to watch how many nuts I eat? I have put some nuts in a sandwich bags and basically filled it up and that is supposed to be my nuts ration for the day. I am also eating fruits and vegetables. So far the fruit have been grapes, grapefruit, red apples, pears, green apples and bananas. The vegetables have all been in a salad: tomatoes, celery spinach leaves, carrots, mixed in balsamic vinaigrette. I only ate the salad Monday night all the other times I have just eaten the fruit and nuts. I am also consuming approximately 75-100 oz of water. Sorry I’m long winded I just wanted you to get the entire picture.

    Nuts are best kept to a minimum if you use them at all. Nuts are extremely high in fat and have the opposite omega 3- omega 6 ratio that is optimal for health. Seeds are best as far as ratios are concerned. Also nuts are truly easy to over eat and cause your nutrient ratios to be off.

     

    A healthy vegan diet is a high raw fruitarian diet. 

    Example:

    Breakfast: green smoothie. (500-1000 calories of fruits blended with a handful of greens and water)

    Bridge: Dates and strawberries (500 calories) 

    Lunch: Salad with low sugar fruits (cucumber, tomato, squash, bell peppers) topped with fruit, beans, psuedo grains, 

    Bridge: 2-3 apples

    Dinner: Raw wraps (collard greens) with low sugar fruit and tahini

    Snack: Sorbet

    Q: What's the best way to start on a vegan/raw food diet? I am not sure what to eat to make sure I would get a nutritious diet-you may not be able to go into that much detail but how can I get sample meal plans for breakfast, lunch and dinner incorporating this type of diet-perhaps there is somewhere on the web I find something like this?     If I do say myself, the best way to start a raw food diet is to be coached by me.     Here are some other tips to get started.

    1: Join a raw food meetup group or community. Surround yourself with supportive people who can point you in the right direction. Try meetup.org or 30bananasaday.com

    3: Start simple with breakfast. Always start your day with a green smoothie. read "Green smoothie revolution" by forget authors name at the moment. heh.

    A sample meal plan would be.

    Breakfast: Green smoothie

    Bridge: raw bar, handful of nuts or seeds, or fruit

    Lunch: Raw wraps made from collard greens. use a base of tahini, hummus, or nut butter. Fill with sprouts and colorful veggies

    Bridge: raw bar, handful nuts or seeds, or fruit

    Dinner: Raw pasta with a large salad

    Snack: Sorbet

    Q: I am just wondering if you've heard of European Body wraps for inches, fat and cellulite loss...every ad says you can lost 6-28 inches in one wrap.     Q: I have the alternative diet and lifestyle manual and want to make sure that this applies to the respiratory condition as well. Can I have the rice bread with no gluten or wheat? or rice pasta being that I have sarcoid? Can I eat cold water fish or venison in small portions along with veggies?     The manual applies when you are FINISHED with a cleanse or kit. Follow the regimen's diet. It clearly states NO COOKED FOOD. You are asking us about cooked food here. Stick to the diet plan and you will be alright! You are asking about foods no good for your condition. Whey is crap. Meat is no good. Grains are no good for you as well. They all produce too much mucus!

    Q: I've made a lifestyle change about 8 months ago. I excluded all dairy, wheat, grains, gluten, legumes, sugar, oils (except olive oil). I still eat minimum amount of meat (chicken, fish) maybe 2 -3 times/wk. I'm slowly trying to eliminate meat totally as I only use to make my meals more filling. My plan is to do Ozone Therapy midway through the detox program, which also rid the body of toxins.

    Q: I purchased the ANTI-VIRAL CLEANSE AND REGIMEN kit. I began taking the regimen of capsules. For breakfast I had water and a banana. For lunch I ate a homemade vegetable soup (chicken broth and veggies). By 2:00 p.m. I began to regurgitate profusely. What did I do wrong? Should I expect to be physically ill after taking the capsules?

    Chicken broth? That's animal-based! No animal products, Beloved! If you continue to vomit lower the dosage of the capsules from 5 down to 2 or 3 (for a few days and then work yourself back up).

    Q: Hello I am currently on the full body detox and I have a question for you. How do you feel about organic chicken from a credited organic food store? I was wondering if eating organic steamed chicken was ok and whats your take on almond milk.

    Thanks for the question.

    Animal products are not part of the detox program. The detox protocol is a raw food detox as well. Most if not all food should be consumed raw. Organic meat is a double edged sword. On one hand you have an animal pumped full of anti biotics and on the other hand you have an animal refused antibiotics if they are sick. Which they routinely are being that they are crammed in sheds. The amount of land required by the USDA to be considered free range is the size of a sheet of printer paper. Birds kept in such close quarters communicate diseases fast. I do not recommend any animal products when on a detox. 

    The main issue with detoxing is lessening the workload of the livers and kidneys so they can clean house. Animal protien is acidic to the body and forces the body to work overtime digesting the excess protein. 

    Almond milk is fine if you make it yourself. Its really not that hard to do if you have a good blender. If you can't blend it yourself you can buy it from the store but remember that it's pasteurized and probably has added sugars which you want to avoid.

    Q: I had a question regarding the chicken pox and other child sickness. I wanted to know what must I give my 8 month old baby if he do get the chicken pox or other sickness. I haven?t given him any vaccination, so he is clean of all that pollution that they are given the children. Could you please advice what I must do if he gets that. And also he are teething and he has some slime on his chest, I?m giving him some sweet basil and also mint tea to see if he can pass it out.     A: Give your child plenty of immune boosting herbs -- Pau D'Arco, Astragulus, Echinacea, Goldenseal and Cat's Claw. Make a tea of them and sweeten them with maple syrup or agave nectar.

    Q: I also wanted to ask you....many of these kits or all of them I think include an herbal colon cleanser of some type....I'm one that doesn't use public bathrooms...talk about sickening..seriously somebody at my work has managed to crap on the wall in the past so needless to say I don't use bathrooms other than my own.     1. No, the colon herbs won't cause daytime need to defecate as you take them at night before bed.

    2. No, you cannot take all 3 kits simultaneously - too many capsules to take! You can take one at a time, but you can take them back to back.

    Q: Hi it's me again. I just read what you said about meat and what I don't understand is if meat was not good for us why in the Bible people eat Lamb. How would you explain back in the Bible times during Abraham and Moses when they use to offer sacrifice and kill a lamb were they cruel and going against God. And those who couldn't afford animals like Lamb would use bird eggs. In the book of Exodus chp. 12: 11,21,27,43,48 and Lev. 23:5 and 12:3, Deut. 16:7and Exodus 34:25 when the death Angel was passing and God told them to kill a Lamb and put the blood on the door post and gave the command for them to roast it. How would you explain that because up until this day the Jews still eat Lamb. Even fish, it was fish that God used to feed the 5000 people. Are you saying I can't eat fish at all. I would like to know some of the things you eat in the place of meat , fish and chicken. I really want to change my eating habit.

    All meat consumption came AFTER the Fall of Man (Genesis Chapter 6). Man can eat meat while in a degenerate state but to return back to Eden he/she must go back to plant foods. Also, meat today is greatly TAINTED unlike meat 4,000 - 6,000 years ago! It's not the same. Jews are not the healthiest people, by the way! Health conscious people are!

    Q: I have a question for you. I love reading your articles and I was reading about the importance of iodine in a vegan diet. I am vegan and I'm scared I'm getting iodine and you wrote that seaweed would fulfill that need. Did you mean Sushi seaweed, the roasted nori kind? Or fresh seaweed? I haven't been able to find fresh seaweed anywhere, except for already prepared seaweed salad. Also, how would you suggest I use the roasted nori seaweed? In smoothies? Because by itself it does not taste good.

    No! Not fresh water seaweed. But seaweed sold in a health food store. One in a bottle. Try Dulse, Kelp, Spiriulina, or even Dherbs Iodine Phosphate formula.

    Q: Thank you for the great advice! :) Our baby has had baby eczema since infancy; however it looks as though it is now getting worse. She has always been and continues to be breastfed; we have supplemented with formula and Gerber baby products once she was ready for solids. She is now eating foods such as oatmeal, whole milk (sometimes we tradeoff between that and baby formula), various fruits and vegetables, meats such as chicken, turkey and beef, pasta, bread, beans, rice, etc. She seems to be more interested in eating carbohydrates than anything else. Also, another question we have is pertaining to my wife's acne and melasma problem which she has had for several years since adolescence (acne) and since she started using contraceptives (melasma). She also has a few crow's feet around her eyes which she would like to get rid of. Do you have any advice and or recommendations for treating these problems? Once again, thank you for the advice and we greatly appreciate your help/suggestions.

    The baby's diet is unfortunately conducive to eczema. It is greatly acid-forming and needs to be changed immediately. For your wife, have her begin her healing journey by performing the FULL BODY DETOX.
