5 Natural Remedies To Help You Get Rid of Dandruff

girl-shampooing-hair

Winter is here, which means the air is dryer and that is no good for your skin. It isn’t good for your scalp either! There’s nothing worse than scratching your head and seeing a bunch of white flakes on your shoulders. You don’t want to see that and neither do your friends or family. It can make you feel embarrassed or self-conscious, and that’s why we are here to help.

What is Dandruff?

Dandruff, which is a scalp condition, commonly causes itchiness and flakes of skin to appear. While dandruff can be embarrassing, it can often be remedied by changing your shampoo, in mild cases. Because skin cells are constantly renewing themselves, the older and dead ones are pushed to the surface and, in the scalp’s case, are expelled and visible on the hair. Dandruff is more common in men than in women, and people with oily skin are more likely to have it.

Natural Remedies For Dandruff:

#1: Switch Shampoos

Remedying dandruff can sometimes be as simple as switching shampoos. Shampoos, which have high percentages of tea tree oil, may help decrease the severity of dandruff. Similarly, coconut oil can help decrease the effects of dandruff. Massage a few tablespoons of coconut oil on the scalp an hour prior to taking a shower. You can also look for a shampoo that has coconut oil in it.

#2: Use Apple Cider Vinegar

Rubbing a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar on the scalp can help restore its pH balance. A neutral pH balance inhibits the growth of yeast and apple cider vinegar also helps to clean hair follicles and clogged pores.

#3: Baking Soda

Baking soda is a natural exfoliant, can help absorb excess skin cells, and naturally absorbs extra oil. Like apple cider vinegar, baking soda can help restore a neutral pH balance on the scalp, preventing the growth of fungi that cause dandruff.

#4: Olive Oil

The effects of dandruff can be decreased by using extra virgin olive oil as a scalp moisturizer. Massage a tablespoon of olive oil onto the scalp before bed and wear a shower cap. Shower in the morning to rinse the olive oil out and repeat this a few times a week until you see positive results.

#5: Change Your Diet

Avoid eating junk food, added sugars, and processed foods. Eliminating these toxins from your diet, in addition to starting a plant-based diet regimen, you may help decrease the dandruff.

Q: I have a condition called dissecting cellulites of the scalp. I've tried a number of remedies related to boils, but the condition never completely heals. The dermatologist has me on an antibiotic (Solodyn 90mg) and a shampoo (can't think of the name) I don't like drugs 'but it seems to be working this time, but I feel they will return. I have been dealing with this for several yrs. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

CHANGE your diet! Your body is too acidic and needs to be more alkaline. Eat more alkaline-forming fruits and vegetables to balance your pH.

You can also perform the Full Body Cleanse your body 2-3 times a year to help your body eliminate toxins that are accumulating in your system and causing your body harm.

Use a natural shampoo (i.e. from Aubrey Organics). We list plenty of good natural shampoo companies in our Alternative Diet and Lifestyle Manual (on sale for $11).

Q: I was reading your article about vinegar being harmful to the body because of its acids and I was curious to know what you think of the Organic unpasturized, unfiltered apple cider vinegar with mother? I saw that at the end of the article it stated that "if you must" use vinegar to use the organic apple cider vinegar but, I have read many places that it has many health benefits such as reducing bad cholesterol, regulating blood pressure, eliminating toxic waste from the body, fighting fungal and bacterial infections, helping relieve joint pains, breaking down fat which helps in natural weight reduction.

Read the "HAIR PROBLEMS" article but as well as our new "SKIN DISORDER = BLOOD DISORDER" article (due out next week) to understand that your condition is one of toxic blood. Perform the FULL BODY DETOX (perhaps back to back). Use natural shampoos and conditioners (purchase our ALTERNATIVE DIET AND LIFESTYLES MANUAL e-book for a listing of healthy brands). Consider a radical diet and lifestyle change. There's much you need to do, but the most important thing is to educate yourself and you can do that by reading many of our health articles for a general overview of health and what you need to do to heal on all levels.

Q: I usually wear an Afro, but now I keep my hair in braids under a hat. A month ago my hair began to break, and my scalp got very dry. So, I started using shea butter, and olive oil. It started to work, soon after I made the mistake of putting braids, with synthetic fibers in my hair. It tore the sides of my hair out. I have about 6 or more inches of my hair left. What should I do now?

Q: Good Morning, hope all is well. My 11 yr. old son has a serious problem! The skin between his toes on both feet are peeling, and he has sores. The rest of his feet look fine. Also, on his arms & legs he has black spots. As if he had a mosquito bite, and scratched it. But that's not the case. What is this? I've tried tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar, and a cream from our local herb store for his feet. To this day nothing has helped. I don't give him meds from our so-called doctors. However, I am considering taking him to get a diagnosis. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanking you in advance and have a wonderful day!

    A:

Please read the article on our site entitled "Skin Disorder = Blood Disorder" as your son is dealing with a blood disorder. Let his feet breathe which can be done by allowing him to wear sandals, or open air shoes. Allow him to soak his feet in warm water with about half a cup of sea salt, and 1 ounce of hydrogen peroxide (for about 30 minutes). After the soak, rub his feet down and in-between his toes with our Healing Skin Oil. Perform daily! Consider having the child completing the Children's Liquid Cleanse.

Q: I'm a personal trainer with a client who suffers from acid reflux. She was taking on teaspoon of apple cider vinegar a day and that was keeping it under control. One of her favorite foods is grapefruit. Her reflux has gotten worse and her doctor has since put her on medication to keep it under control. Is there anything that she can do that is more natural and can place her body back in balance?

    A:

This person needs to consider performing the FULL BODY DETOX and after such detox, do a daily regimen of ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD, ACID BUSTER, ENZYMES FORMULA, and DIGEST AID. For right now, she needs more alkalinity in her system which comes from green foods. Alkalinity counteracts acidity. Have her drink vegetable juice daily.
