7 Spices You Need In Your Kitchen

spices-in-spoons

Spices take your food to the next level. A meal that is seasoned properly is light-years away from a bland meal. And you don’t need to spend money on exotic spices from the far corners of the world to reap some amazing health benefits. Many common spices that people take for granted contain powerful nutrients that can benefit the skin, improve arterial health, aid with weight loss, and prevent oxidative stress.

Because spices are small and not on every superfood list like kale, beets, or spirulina, their health benefits often get overlooked by a lot of people. Let us let you in on a little secret: Herbs and spices have been around for centuries and have been revered for their healing properties! Let the following spices prove the truth of that statement.

Cayenne Pepper:

This spice can actually help to keep you warm on a raw food diet. The active ingredient, capsaicin, in cayenne helps to fight inflammation, improve digestion, and boost circulation. Additionally, cayenne pepper works to boost the body’s metabolic rate, helping to burn more calories.

Oregano:

One tablespoon of fresh oregano has comparable antioxidant activity to a medium apple. That same tablespoon has four times more antioxidants than blueberries, which are antioxidant superstars. All of this means that oregano helps to fight free radicals, prevent cell damage, and reduce your risk of heart disease. Oregano also contains phytonutrients that fight infection.

Cinnamon:

This versatile spice makes everything nice! It contains antiseptic, anti-clotting, and cholesterol lowering properties, and the polyphenols work to regulate blood sugar levels. Additionally, the anti-inflammatory properties in cinnamon have been known to combat allergy symptoms by reducing inflammation and fighting histamine reactions.

Thyme:

It’s about time that you got some thyme in your kitchen! Rich in potassium, iron, vitamins A & C, and calcium, thyme has been used for its healing properties since the days of Ancient Egypt. Several studies on rats with high blood pressure have shown that thyme can help to regulate heart rate, in addition to lowering cholesterol levels. It has also been known to boost the immune system and aid with red blood cell formation.

Rosemary:

Rosemary is a staple herb in the Mediterranean diet, and for good reason! The antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties help to promote circulation and boost the immune system. Rosemary is also a known memory booster, several studies revealing its ability to increase cognitive activity in those with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Sage:

There’s a saying about sage: “Who has sage in the garden does not need a doctor.” This ancient herb has been used as a natural disinfectant, but it has also been used to stop bleeding and to relieve gastric pain. A lesser-known fact about sage is that you can rub fresh sage leaves on your teeth to naturally whiten them. You can also swish lukewarm sage tea in your mouth to freshen your breath and help prevent cavities.

Turmeric:

Turmeric is the golden spice that keeps on giving. The active ingredient, curcumin, has undergone a multitude of studies because of its ability to help reduce inflammation, boost cognitive function, and naturally soothe an upset stomach. Some research has also indicated that curcumin may help to fight cancerous cells, specifically those in breast tissue, the colon, and prostate.

Make sure to have these spices in your kitchen so you can season your food and reap all of their health benefits!

Q: I have read that Peppermint, Lavender, Rosemary and Sage essential oils are all good for hair and stimulating hair growth. Would it be more beneficial to use them all at once for maximum result or should I just use the Rosemary and Sage only as you suggested? Also, I didn?t see any Almond oil so I was wondering if I could use Olive oil or Jojoba oil as a carrier oil.

    A:

Yes they are great for stimulating hair growth; however, I would use them together or combined. ANY natural edible oil can be used - it's YOUR choice. Jojoba and/or sesame seed oil are the best oils for the hair.

Q: My question is regarding fibroids. I have been told I have had fibroids about the size of someone 3 months pregnant. I have been told there are two in clusters. They gave me the diameters, but I don't have that information at this time. My OB/GYN has told me he believes it is causing me to be slightly anemic. I have been trying some remedies on my own like more exercise and a change in diet. My primary physician does not recommend surgery she has me taking iron ferrous sulfate supplements twice per day to help with my iron count. It seems to be helping. The only problem I have with taking the iron supplements is that it sometimes causes constipation and I am normally pretty regular. I usually eliminate 2 times per day sometimes 3. My OB/GYN on the other hand keeps pushing for me to having surgery.& amp; nbsp; They had me take BC pills, however I took myself off of them because they made me sick. I took them only for 6 months. I'm 45 and have never taken BC pills ever and I don't want to start now. I've never been pregnant. I flow heavy on my 2nd and 3rd day heavy and after that it is manageable. My cycle has improved however I want to reduce the flow on those days if possible and of course dissolve the fibroid if at all possible. Doctors tell me they won't go away unless removed. I used to be on my cycle for 7 days and 4 of those days were heavy. Now I'm normally on for 4 days and only the 2nd and 3rd day are heavy. I know that as I reach menopause they may shrink in size, however I'm still aways off from that. I eat no red meat however I do eat fish and poultry. I eat a pretty good balance of vegetables and fruits, mostly raw and steamed. I drink lactaid milk. I don't eat much dairy except cheese and eggs occasionally. I do have a weakness, I love potato chips. I know this is not good. I can feel the fibroid get bigger when I eat them. When I stop for a period of time it decreases in size. At least I feel like it does. I'm not a sugar craver, however during the week before my cycle I'll crave sweets. I usually resist. I feel it's my diet that has caused the fibroids as well as every female in my family has had a hysterectomy due to fibroids. I think it is also hereditary as well. Whatever the case I'd like to know what regimen can you put me on that will help me? The goal is to reduce or dissolve the size of the fibroid so it is not affecting my iron level. I'm also starting to see my abdomen get bigger when I've always had a flat stomach. Perhaps this is me just getting older, however I think it's the fibroids. Constant low levels over time can't be good. I hope I have provided you enough information to give me your recommendation. If not please feel free to e-mail me for any additional information you need. I'm looking for a natural cure. Outside of this condition I'm in very good health. No problem with weight, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I'm pretty athletic and active as well. Please advise. I look forward to your recommendation.

Q: Please tell me which products will help my 11 yr old son eliminate or aid in his healing of this horrible disease (Allergic Fungal Sinusitis). He was taking allergy shots once a week for a year. He is allergic to everything...grass, trees; dustmites, soy, wheat, dairy, eggs. He now drinks rice milk and I order food online at ener_g foods such as breads, cookies etc that are made without all the things he is allergic to. I want to boost his immune system to help fight this disease. He is on a strict diet and I would love you input on how to help him.

    A:

Clearly he's toxic! Clean his body out and the problem will go away. Try CHILDREN DETOX (liquid extracts) . Let him drink warm water and lemon juice (from fresh squeezed lemon) every day. Let him drink herbal tea of Mullein leaf and/or Eucalyptus. When he is bathing, drop in 6-8 drops of essential oil of Eucalyptus per bath and add 1 box of sea salt to every bath. Let him soak for 45 minutes or so. He can heal from this problem!

Not really! Allergy season is Nature's way of stimulating cleansing in us. That's all! Allergies are a sign that the body is toxic and needs cleansing. Cleanse your body periodically and your allergies will be a thing of the past! Try Dherbs' ALLERGY FORMULA. The FULL BODY DETOX is the ideal product for you though!

Q: I was reading your article about vinegar being harmful to the body because of its acids and I was curious to know what you think of the Organic unpasturized, unfiltered apple cider vinegar with mother? I saw that at the end of the article it stated that "if you must" use vinegar to use the organic apple cider vinegar but, I have read many places that it has many health benefits such as reducing bad cholesterol, regulating blood pressure, eliminating toxic waste from the body, fighting fungal and bacterial infections, helping relieve joint pains, breaking down fat which helps in natural weight reduction.

    A:

I approve of apple cider vinegar for health purposes. Some good stuff!

Also, how much per month will these products cost and how many months do the kits last? How do you recommend I buy them? By kit or individual? Thank you for your time!

    A:

I recommend you perform the FULL BODY DETOX kit followed by the FIBRIOD BUSTER CLEANSE AND REGIME. Perform them back to back. Take a break for about a month and perform both of them again. Six weeks on and six weeks off. While your off of these 2 kits, take individual formulas of IRON PHOSPHATE FORMULA, FIBRIOD BUSTER, and MOON CYCLE FORMULA. In re iron, you are taking POISON! The kind of iron you are taking is poisonous and mixes with sulfur in your body which creates constipation. I suggest Dherbs IRON PHOSPHATE FORMULA which is 100% all-natural with absolutely no adverse side effects! Also, you have to improve your diet. Nothing greatly causes fibroids than DAIRY PRODUCTS! The meat, potato chips, dairy, etc. is filling up your trashbags (tumors). Go VEGAN and RAW FOODS! Start reading some of our free health articles, i.e. â€FIBROID TUMORSâ€, â€WHAT IS RAW FOODSâ€, etc. Dherbs products can greatly help you and you'll see and/or feel the difference (as long as you don't cheat on your diet). There is much help for you!

Q: What Causes Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura? A lack of activity in the ADAMTS13 enzyme (a type of protein in the blood) causes thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TPP). The ADAMTS13 gene controls the enzyme, which is involved in blood clotting. Not having enough enzyme activity causes platelets to clump together, forming blood clots. In TTP, when blood clots form, there are fewer platelets in the blood. This can cause bleeding into the skin (purpura), drawn-out bleeding from cuts, and internal bleeding. It also causes small blood clots to form suddenly throughout the body, including in the brain and kidneys. TTP also can cause red blood cells to break apart faster than the body can replace them. This leads to hemolytic anemia. My 25 yr. old niece has this very serious, rare disease, and I wanted to know if there is any natural herbs to that can help her heal this condition?

    A:

There is plenty that can be done. Basically her blood needs to be addressed. This disease is perhaps mostly diet-related. Have her perform the FULL BODY DETOX. After the detox, put her on: BLOOD AND LYMPHATIC FORMULA , ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD, VITAMIN C FORMULA, and KHEMETIAN GOLD and her situation will change for the better. She needs to change her diet too! More fruits and vegetables (and vegetable juice). Just stick with Dherbs and her situation will change. Stay positive!

Q: This past May my sister started to have really bad asthma attacks and allergic relations to scents, dust etc, and a horrible cough. She was told by her doctor that she had asthma and was put on asthma medication, inhalers, etc. the symptoms got worse, she couldn't sleep because she was up all night coughing, the claritin didn't work, etc. She had been complaining the past week of feeling bloated, her ankles being swollen, not being able to breath when she layed down, etc. She couldn't even walk from desk to desk at work. On the way home last week she went into the Emergency room and was admitted and stayed 4 days. We soon found out that she had congenital heart failure and only 25% of her heart is pumping properly. She couldn't breath because of the water build up on her lungs and heart. The doctors said that the build up of antibodies in her system showed that she had contracted EB virus some years ago and it permanently damaged her heart. She is limited to only 64 ounces of water a day, takes water pills, blood pressure pills, and is not allowed to eat foods high in sodium. My question is, is there any herbs or vitamins that can be used to help her heart? I do not want her to get a pace maker or have a heart transplant. The medications that she is on now make her so weak and drowsy. I know the doctors said the heart damage is permanent, but I just need to know is there anything else that would help naturally?

    A:

The heart failure is only permanent if you guys (especially your sister) BELIEVE so! What is believed is achieved! It's nothing but medical BS if you ask me!

To CURE her heart condition, I would suggest she:

    1. Perform the Full Body Detox (absent any pharmaceutical drugs, but it is your sister's choice to stay on them or get off of them)

    2. While on the FBD, drink 2-4 cups of Hawthorn Berry tea

    3. After the FBD, she needs to take CARDIOVASCULAR Formula (3 capsules 2 times daily), CIRCUL-AID formula (3 capsules once daily), and BOWEL MOVER (3 capsules before bed every night).

Q: My Doctor wants me to start using the Cholesterol medication, Zocor. He says my high cholesterol is due to genetics. I'm not crazy about the idea of using this medication that he says may affect my liver. I've tried lowering the 'bad' cholesterol with diet and exercise. What are my natural food options? Thanks! After you do the full body detox and want to pursue other cleanses do you have to stay on a raw diet. Can you eat cooked beans or the herbs won’t be as effective? I’m a college student and I need food for thought and sometimes things aren’t accessible.

    A:

I'd recommend you start taking CHOLESTEROL BUSTER, ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD, and INTESTINAL JANITOR (Fiber). Food-wise, all fruits and vegetables will help lower your cholesterol levels. Avoid meat and dairy products if your cholesterol levels are high.

Q: I have been anemic since my cycle started age 11. In the year 2001 I had the first tranfusion and found out that I had fibroids. At that time they were small. It took three years later to find out that you can shrink them and disolve them from a book called healing fibroids a natural cure. I have always been a heavy bleeder but in 2004 the bleeding got worse where i had to leave work to go to the emergency room. I got IV fliud and was told this is my normal period. I never had to go to the hospital because of bleeding too much. Any way in 2001 I was on the pill and taking iron 3* a day 325ml. Got off the pill because of the weight gain and was still bleeding hard due to everyday stress. 2006 I had two more transfusions with in 5 months of each other. All the doctors want to do is cut me. I refuse. After the last transfusion, I decided to get iron through IV. What a dissaster. The hospital gave me too many things at once. I was fine when I got home but, at 11pm I could not sleep too well. I began having heart palpitations. Rushed to the ER in such pain, I was in pain to stand up, in pain to sit down. I had to pace the floor and sit down and get back up again several times. The intense pain did not stop until I stood bent over my mother's lap for 10 mins. It stopped at 4:30am. Well they kept me for four days. Every test and xray done on me and they found nothing wrong with my heart. Good. But what on earth caused the pain. I have not been able to work for the past 3 years. Every time my cycle starts I lose a lot of blood, I am weak, I can't walk like a normal person and my heart is always pounding hard at every little movement I make. I blacked out in the shower in 2007. I am currently taking cold pressed wheat germ oil to put oxygen in my blood and to stop the pain in my chest. I look worn, my skin from head to toe is covered in scars, and I have no finger nails and my hair is greying all over. I am 36 and I am literally half dead. Can any of your products help me get me up off the couch and walking like a normal person again.

    A:

Beloved, I recommend that you first perform the FULL BODY DETOX. After this kit, I recommend that you perform the FIBRIOD BUSTER CLEANSE AND REGIME. Q: My question is about hair loss. I am a 45 year old African American female. I started losing my hair about 15 years ago. I specifically remember unusual symptoms before it started to fall out. First, my entire scalp had a burning sensation, and it was very tender to the touch. It was very difficult to brush, comb and wash. Then after that, I am not sure how much longer after, but a dry patch of skin developed toward the back of my head (approximately 1 inch in diameter). I was able to peel it off and pull it through the strains of hair (very weird). That happened a couple of times and not too long after that, my hair started to fall out in large amounts for a fairly long period of time. At the moment I would say that I am mostly bald with hair mostly around the edges. Also I would like to mention that hair started to grow on my chest BUT I started to lose hair in my vaginal area. Sorry if some of this sounds sketchy but it's been 15 years!! I will try to give you a little bit of my history. I am 5'8" and 135lbs. I would say that for the most part, I have been an athlete all my life. My menses were very irregular sometimes and/or absent for long periods of time. When my menses were present, I had very bad cramps and clotting. My menses are now very regular and I hardly have any cramps, my flow is light and very little clotting. I would have to say that it is now a pleasure to have my "period". This also might be a result from switching my diet to a vegetarian diet. I have been a vegetarian for about 16 years. I would say 20% is dairy, but after reading your articles, I am trying my best to become vegan, hopefully even a raw foodist. I also eat tofu. I have never had hair problems growing up. I did get relaxers, but only twice a year. I have had my appendix removed when I was in elementary school. My bowel movements are usually once a day. (I know it needs to be 3.) So anyway, I have been to a couple of medical doctors to no avail, so now I am coming to you. I just received the following products from your company today (10-06-08). I am looking forward to using them. - MSM SULFUR - ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD - COLON FORMULA - HEALING HERBAL TOOTH POWDER - HAIR OIL One last note: I have had maybe one cold in the last 3 years. I can't remember the last time I had the flu. So thank the Lord, my health has been pretty good. Thank you for reading about my situation and hopefully you can shed some light on what is going on with my body.

Q: My cat is currently having a hypersensitive reaction to canned food that I purchased from Whole Foods. It contained fish and I think it has upset my cat's stomach. Will your Cat and Dog Immune Booster Formula help stabilize his upset stomach? He responds well to the antibiotic from the vet however if I can give him something all natural to help his entire immune system then he and I won't have to go through the stress of going to the vet.

    A:

I say give your cat something natural to stablize the upset stomach. Immune Booster will greatly help your cat. Or, you could give your cat Electric Greens Cell Food (open up a few capsules) and the alkalinity from this formula will serve as an antacid.
