A Natural Remedy That Is So Abundant But Hardly Used

hands-olive-tree

People have been using parts of the olive tree for thousands of years. Historically, the olive branch has been a used as a peace offering. Even today, the emblem for the World Health Organization is surrounded by olive branches, which emphasize its peaceful, healthy nature. Olive trees are grown around the world, with a large concentration of them thriving in the Mediterranean. Because they are abundant, we should be using them for more than the typical culinary applications.

Olive leaves don’t get a lot of attention, but they should. The polyphenols in olive leaves have potent antioxidants and have displayed anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory properties in recent studies. One of the primary antioxidants, oleuropein, may work to decrease blood pressure, which may be beneficial for those with hypertension. Additionally, olive leaves also work to inhibit oxidation, ultimately lowering bad cholesterol levels.

Certain types of cancer have lower rates in the Mediterranean, when compared to other areas around the world. This primarily has to do with the Mediterranean diet, which has been proven to decrease cancer risk by 61%. The Mediterranean diet is high in fresh herbs and spices, fiber-rich foods, whole grains, large amounts of fruits and vegetables, legumes, mild wine intake, and high intake of monounsaturated fatty acids from olive oil.

Fun Fact: In ancient times, herbalists mashed olive leaves into a poultice to help treat skin rashes and boils.

If olive leaves are so magnificent, how much is safe for one person to consume at once? According to research, an effective amount to consume in one sitting is one teaspoon of dried olive leaves. The dried olive leaves are readily available and contain about 6-15% oleuropein, the active antioxidant in olive leaves. Brew them into a tea with one cup of hot water. Let the leaves steep for about 10 minutes before consuming the tea.

More research needs to be done on the olive leaf, but all of the current research points to it being an amazing herbal remedy. It has many applications and can be used to help reduce fever, relieve rheumatic pain, soothe stomach pain, benefit those with dermatitis, and much more. Try consuming olive leaf tea and let us know how you feel.

Q: Unfortunately, I think it will be impossible to order and get the products you mentioned. I ordered a pack of organic seeds last year from Holland, and experienced many difficulties getting it. (due to the very bad posting services in my country) Meanwhile, I made some researches about olive leaf, and listened to my inner voice. I'm going to try to use olive leaf tea as a natural anti-viral. What is your opinion about that? And do you have any information about the best way to prepare this drink as a medical treatment? (dosage, how much time it has to be simmered and how)

    A:

You are very welcome, Beloved! Olive Leaf is a very powerful and effective herb, especially for cases of so-called viruses. Because it's an herb you really can't take too much of it. Personally, 3 is the magic number, so I'd recommend 3 times per day (tea or capsule form).

Q: I was wondering if it is okay to mix Mrs. Dash season blend with Olive Oil as a dressing for my salad? It tastes real bad with just Olive Oil alone, and I don't like the bitterness taste of lemon juice, and apple vinegar cider. Plus, what would you recommend for toppings to make the salad more interesting? Can I put olives, and cucumbers, etc.?

    A:

Do as you please as far as dressing goes! Just stay away from harmful ingredients! Mrs. Dash, seasonings, Olive Oil,

Q: I have been using Kiss my Face Pure Olive Oil soap but I noticed it has sodium chloride?? Wasn't sure if that was toxic....

    A:

JUST A BASE INGREDIENT I WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT. ONE OR TWO SUSPECT INGREDIENTS ARE BETTER THAN A TOTALLY TOXIC PRODUCT.

Q: Can I lightly sauté in Olive oil or steam my raw vegetables occasionally on the Full Body Cleanse? This is my second day on the cleanse and I am having a hard time eating crunchy vegetables.

    A:

Hi, and thanks for the question.

It is best to avoid oil for the cleanse and future dieting. Oil slows down digestion, reduces blood flow up to 30 percent for 3 hours after digestion, and is essentially a ton of calories with little to no nutrient value. When you sauté vegetables in olive or other oil you are turning a low calories highly nutritious food into a high calorie and low nutrient dense food.

Steaming is an ok option if done lightly. When you steam vegetables you do reduce nutrient value and destroy some enzymes. If you do you will lessen the impact of the cleanse to a degree but I would rather you eat the vegetable than not at all. The benefit of eating the vegetable lightly steamed is better than avoiding the vegetable.

Q: Can I use pure Shea butter mixed with olive oil in my hair

    A:

Yes, you can use shea butter and olive oil in the hair. They're both great natural products that promote good healthy hair. A lot of the hair products on the market contain substances that aren't great for your hair. When using natural things such a shea butter you know what you're using.

Q: I've come to your website many times in the past few days and I would like to start ordering some products to begin detoxing my body and to rid my system of the herpes simplex virus and any other std that may be lingering within. I was diagnosed with this virus on 12/5, but since then I have been given amoxicillin by the doctor. After doing some research, I bought some Olive Leaf Extract, L-Lysine and Echinacea with goldenseal. I feel a lot better, especially since I began to stop eating certain foods, like cheese, pork, peanuts and chocolate. I've also been maintaining a positive attitude and believing that I will be free of this virus. I am extremely interested in starting a cleansing ritual beginning at the end of the month, but at current, I would just like to begin with a supplement you would recommend to cleanse my blood, my genital and vaginal area. Your recommendations will be deeply appreciated.

    A:

If I had to recommend one product before your Anti-Viral Kit for you, it would be Dherbs STD-RID formula.

Q: Dear herbalist, I would like to know if it's alright for me to alternate cod liver oil pill (omega 3) in between taking the blood and lymph cleanse. I use to have beautiful skin until spring of this year. Also I want to know if taking teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil is good for healing me of what I believe may be vitiligo, tenea vesicle or eczema (dermatitis). PLEASE HELP.

    A:

Cod liver oil is crap! Olive oil is healthy and good for you. To repair the skin, focus on cleansing your blood (FULL BODY DETOX, vegetable juice, etc.). Check out our new article "SKIN DISORDER = BLOOD DISORDER".

Q: My concern is that my baby isn't chewing and he's 2 years old. He does not like solids in his mouth so he spits them out or throws them up. Do you have any suggestions? He's also dealing with eczema. Will the oxygen olive oil clear up his skin? Also, I do work the tuning forks and I'm interested in learning chakra balancing with sound.

    A:

Baby knows best! If baby doesn't want solids, give baby liquids. Now for eczema, I know we have an article or two up covering â€ECZEMAâ€. Please kindly visit our article section for these articles, as they are loaded with helpful information and remedies. In re: chakras, I am so busy these days that I don't do much teaching anymore.

Q: I've made a lifestyle change about 8 months ago. I excluded all dairy, wheat, grains, gluten, legumes, sugar, oils (except olive oil). I still eat minimum amount of meat (chicken, fish) maybe 2 -3 times/wk. I'm slowly trying to eliminate meat totally as I only use to make my meals more filling. My plan is to do Ozone Therapy midway through the detox program, which also rid the body of toxins.

    A:

    Ozone therapy is beneficial!

Q: I have been on the Full Body Cleanse for 3 - 4 days now & I have noticed that I have more acid reflux symptoms. I want to continue with the program as I feel as it would help me to become much healthier. I have been to a homeopathic doctor & he indicated senna leaves are not the best thing for me to use. I may not have had the right grade senna leaves tablet at the time too. Any suggestions?

    A:

All of our products are well-proportioned, so the senna leaves will not be a problem. The senna is well balanced for optimal benefit.

Excess acid reflux means your body is adjusting to the cleanse. You are very acidic and the herbs are alkaline. Healing is taking place. Keep with your cleanse!

Q: Happy New Year to You and yours!!! My son is three years old; he was born December 12, 2004, this was a Sunday. Ever since he started talking he's had a fascination with the light and light bulbs. He looks up and says "mom look, the light is beautiful" or "mom see the beautiful light bulb". I look at it and I usually say yes it is beautiful Jordan. However, I do not see what he sees nor do I understand the attraction. When he was two weeks old I took him with me to Olive May and the old wise woman there saw him and asked me to bring him to her. When she looked at him she said "he is indigo--he is like sunshine when he enters a room and people will be drawn to him." So far the part about people being drawn to him has manifest true. What do you think of the attraction/fascination to the lights? Also, I read that awesome article on birthmarks!! I don't have one, however, my son has one on his buttock; I don't remember which one at the moment. His primary pediatrician called it a mongolian spot..what do you say?? Does it mean he will fall and hurt himself or has fallen?? Looking forward to seeing you in March. Love, Peace and Blessings.

    A:

You son is most definitely an INDIGO CHILD (specifically a CRYSTAL or RAINBOW CHILD manifesting all 7 spectrums of color of the Rainbow). His preoccupation with lights could denote many things. For one, he is Light himself (light-worker). It could be that he still remembers the Light before re-incarnating this time around. We all eventually move into the Light in order to move on. Mongolian spot? A very negative term! Buttocks denote an injury that occured on that area in a past life. Birthmarks don't mean something adverse will happen to you in this lifetime where your birthmark is. It doesn't mean this at all. Just be open to experience and learn from and with your child. Live in the moment and just be open!

Q: I started the full body detox today, and found that I DO NOT like the salad dressing I made with the olive oil, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. I found I could not tolerate it on my salad. What can I do instead? Another question is... I noticed lentils on the food combining chart. Those have to be cooked. Are those actually allowed to be consumed warm? I love the raw fruits and vegetables. I don?t have a problem, cause I love salads. I just need help on what I can have on it.

    A:

Check out our website for raw salad dressing recipes. You are bound to find one you like.

As for lentils, you are NOT allowed to have them while on the cleanse.

Q: I usually wear an Afro, but now I keep my hair in braids under a hat. A month ago my hair began to break, and my scalp got very dry. So, I started using shea butter, and olive oil. It started to work, soon after I made the mistake of putting braids, with synthetic fibers in my hair. It tore the sides of my hair out. I have about 6 or more inches of my hair left. What should I do now?

    A:

Pour the oil into your palms, and then rub into you hair and then comb! Hair should be shiny, and smell good.

Q: I have severe cystic acne that has caused acne scarring. Some are raised while others are depressed. I have come completely off of the acne medications I've been prescribed and over the counter medicines (i.e., Proactive) and gone the natural route. I first started by changing my diet and followed that with the Full Body Detox. I purchased the olive oil and Shea butter soap and Oz Oil and use this daily. In addition, I use Bentonite clay twice weekly and steam 3-5x a week followed by hydrogen peroxide. I have two questions, will this alone regenerate the scar tissue? And will this also be effective for hyper pigmentation?

    A:

What you are using now will greatly help your condition (as well as hyper-pigmentation). Just keep doing what you're doing and just know that with Nature patience is required.

Q: I have read that Peppermint, Lavender, Rosemary and Sage essential oils are all good for hair and stimulating hair growth. Would it be more beneficial to use them all at once for maximum result or should I just use the Rosemary and Sage only as you suggested? Also, I didn?t see any Almond oil so I was wondering if I could use Olive oil or Jojoba oil as a carrier oil.

    A:

Yes they are great for stimulating hair growth; however, I would use them together or combined. ANY natural edible oil can be used - it's YOUR choice. Jojoba and/or sesame seed oil are the best oils for the hair.

Q: I'm doing the Full Body Cleanse and I have a few questions about it: I get tired of drinking just the distilled water and I'd like to drink the herbal teas, but I don't like it by itself. Would it mess things up to add a pack or two of Splenda to my tea or maybe honey? I can't stand the salads with the olive oil or apple cider vinegar or the lemon juice as dressing and it makes me gag. I have To have some sort of salad dressing. What kind would be suitable? Do I look for sugar-free? Or organic and natural? I found one that is organic and natural, but it has 3 grams of sugar in it. Without eating all my whole grained breads and other fiber, I haven't had much of a bowel movement in 3 days, should I wait a while yet? (I had surgery on my bowels and always had to take fiber tablets and eat lots of grains to get my bowels to move.) I haven't done the enemas yet, (low on money) should I try that? Or should I resume my fiber tablets I normally take? Any type of fiber I could add to my fruit smoothies in the morning? I want to also do the female cleanse. Is it ok to do that immediately after I finish the full body cleanse or should I wait for a little while? Thank you for all your help, I feel much better than I did before and I just started this detox a week ago, lost 10 pounds, too, woohoooooo! Thank you

    A:

    1. Instead of splenda, use agave, stevia, or grade b maple syrup as a sweetener.

    2. In re Salad Dressing, an organic and natural one is great. You can also check our website for salad dressing recipes.

    3. The fiber pills are not part of the cleanse, so we wouldn't advise those. Fruit is you best choice of fiber so look into eating more papaya, mango, figs, etc. And yes, colonics (and enemas) would greatly help you - undoubtedly!

    4. You can do the Female Cleanse right after you finish detoxing. There's no need to wait!

Q: I have completed 2 FULL BODY DETOX kits and I am on the last week of my second FIBRIOD BUSTER CLEANSE AND REGIME. I have experienced 2 head colds and eczema. I use a natty wash for my cold and tea tree oil and olive oil for my skin which has been working. I also notice that I am able to where form fitting clothing again, which was unable to wear due to my stomach being the size of a six month pregnant woman 3 months ago. I do not know if fibroids are shrinking I have not had them measured but I think I'm on the right path. Thank you.

    A:

Trust your gut and keep on trucking'. Sounds like to me you are on the right path! Just keep on doing what you're doing.

Q: Approximately two weeks ago, I developed dry, itchy patches on my back. Several things changed during this period, I started using Nubian Heritage Shea Butter soap, I starting the Full Body Detox, I received a deep tissue massage in which the primary focus was my back (olive oil mixed with sesame oil). Also I put Oxydrops, in Dherbs Hair Oil, and Healing Skin Oil. I used the Creativity and Abundance Elixirs. Do you think these changes have something to do with the dry itchy patched on my back?

    A:

Please read the article "Skin Disorder = Blood Disorder" in our articles section. It may be "healing crisis" if the problem started after using natural products.

Q: What kind of dressing I can use on my salad. I tried the olive oil, lemon juice and sea salt salad dressing and I didn't like it at all. Please help this is day 3 for me. Thanks

A: We have numerous raw salad dressing recipes available on our recipe section. The salad dressing you tried, might be better with apple cider vinegar instead of lemon juice in addition to adding the sea salt and herbs & spices of your choice.
