10 Reasons Black Seed (Cumin) is Jaw-Dropping for Your Health

black cumin seeds

The Prophet Muhammad reportedly said that the seeds of the black cumin plant (commonly known as black seed) could “cure everything but death.” Cure is a strong word, but he may have been onto something. Nearly every day some new study comes out touting the benefits of black cumin seeds. Originally from Egypt, black cumin grows in a tiny pod that requires soaking before the tiny seeds can be released. Upon consumption, the body benefits from a powerful substance called crystalline nigellone as well as over a hundred other compounds.

Take a look at this amazing list to read more about the benefits of Black Seed.

1. Asthma. Research suggests that taking black seed extract by mouth improves coughing, wheezing and lung function in people with asthma.

2. Infection. Researchers at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College found that Black Seed oil inhibited the growth of 67% of the antibacterial-resistant “super bugs” they tested. This is an important finding as scientists scramble to find new ways to kill off infections that are becoming increasingly resistant to standard anti-bacterial regiments.

3. Cancer. Croatian scientists determined that two phytochemicals found in Black Seed reduced tumors in mice by 52%. But this is only the beginning: studies by researchers all over the world have found Black Seed to have a powerful effect on all sorts of cancers from liver to lung, brain to breast, leukemia to colon.

4. Liver Health. In a recent study, scientists discovered that black seed oil benefits the function of the liver and helps prevent both damage and disease.

5. Diabetes. Researchers from the Indian Council of Medical Research found that black seed oil helped those suffering from diabetes in a number of ways. The compound caused partial regeneration of pancreatic cells, increased lowered serum insulin concentrations, and decreased elevated glucose. They went on to say that it worked as well as metformin, a popular diabetes drug, without any of the side effects.

6. Weight Loss. The Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders determined that that black seed oil was amongst “the most effective natural remedies on the planet” for those trying to lose weight. Black Seed addresses several weight gain triggers such as appetite, glucose absorption, cholesterol levels, and triglycerides.

7. Hair. Probably one of the most unique black seed oil benefits is its uncanny ability to help restore hair loss. No one quite understands why it happens, but it’s not too hard to guess that it has something to do with its powerful antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

8. Skin. Iranian researchers found that it was as effective as the skin cream Betamethasone in decreasing severity of hand eczema.

9. High Blood Pressure. Early research suggests that taking black seed extract twice daily for 8 weeks might slightly improve blood pressure in some people.

10. Opiate Withdrawal. Research has suggested that black seed oil taken by mouth three times a day may decrease symptoms associated with heroin withdrawal.

Bonus: Epilepsy. We’ve included it here, because the study was very small. But in any case, researchers found that Black Seed extract significantly reduced seizure activity in children suffering from Epilepsy.

Conclusion. Clearly, Black Seed is a powerful natural remedy for all sorts of ailments and diseases. For those of us who are lucky enough to be healthy already, a daily regiment of Black Seed may help keep you that way.

Q: I was reading about a famous black author who died of brain cancer and I wanted to know what does it mean on a metaphysical level? Cancer of the brain, breast, colon, mouth. What does this signify other than extreme toxicity? What does poor circulation mean metaphysically speaking? Do you think there is a link between hair dyes, hair relaxers (burners) and brain cancer and lupus among black females. This is "off the cuff" but I hate seeing black females with straightened hair and hair coloring. I really hate it. I hate long claws (fake fingernails).

    A:

Metaphysically, cancer denotes a feeling being eaten up (on the inside) by some emotion or emotions, always negative emotions. Mouth cancer - the person refused to speak out their hurt, anger, pain, etc. Breast cancer - the female failed to get things off of her chest or neglected caring for herself (nurturing herself, her wounds and pains, etc.). Colon cancer - the person couldn't stomach things but failed to release what was emotionally eating away at them.

Metaphysically speaking, poor circulation means your "life flow" is stagnant due to the burdens of life "weighing you down." Most people with poor circulation have weight issues. In addition they may be "poor" and their cash flow does not "circulate" the way they'd would like and so worries about bills and other financial responsibility makes them eat away their worries whereby they gain weight and hamper their bodily circulation.

And yes, chemicals in hair products (dyes, conditioners, relaxers) are playing a role in certain cancers of the head (i.e. brain cancer).

Q: Several people in the conscious community have stated that adding flax seeds and/or flax seed powder to our diet benefits the colon for complete and clean bowel movements. My question is, does flax seed powder or the seeds themselves promote parasites in the stomach and colon? A few of my friends and I have completed the parasite cleanse and got into a debate about it. Thank you very much, Hotep!

    A:

Flax seed undoubtedly helps the colon (due to fiberous nature) but it is absurd to think or suggest that flax seeds (in any form) promotes parasites. Meat, dairy, refined grains and other processed foods is what promotes parasites in the stomach, colon, and rest of the body. So, as Public Enemy would say: "Don't believe the hype!"

Q: I was having a discussion with my sons father about whether or, not black americans are descedants of africa. He says he is black, and is not a descendant from africa. That "we" can be from any where, not just africa. He doesn't accept the term african american. My sister was present, and she agreed with him. His statement made me so angry! Do think blacks are descedents of africa? Where else are we from, Europe? I thought this was just ignorant of thim to say. Unfortunately being slightly ignorant of this subject myself, I didnt have a way to argue that we are african. Are we black people descedents of africa? Should we use the term Afrian American?

    A:

Undoubtedly we are descendants of Africa (Afraka) and we should also socially and politically go by African-American for purposes of claiming our civil rights under a government we pay tax dollars to so as to serve our interests as American citizens.

Q: I was on the computer, I came across the article on the big ole butt. In the article you said (paraphrase) that successful women tend to be sick. Are you saying that these women should not try to be successful? in my opinion if black women are overweight, they cannot blame the corporate lifestyle, they have to blame themselves. We are all in control of our own lifestyle, those same corporate black women, if they were working 9-5 at some factory somewhere, they would still be fat. I do agree with you when you stated that many black women lack will power to fast. I think that we lack will power to do anything that is beneficial to us. Yes I do agree with you that the steatopygia female does look like a "pig". their faces tend to take on pig like facial features. Yes you are right that miss steatopygia tends to wear tight pants, (in my opinion that type of backside is stinky looking). So yes there is some parts of the article I do agree with. Far too many of us black women, tend to be stubborn and too defensive. I am glad that your site does exist, because far too many sites like to blame "whitey". You are one of the few black health specialists, that put the blame on us, and you should because our lifestyle is our responsibility.

    A:

No, these women should BECOME successful, but not lose their health and/or souls in the process of becoming successful. The corporate sector has played a great "role" in Black women gaining weight because the jobs are too sedentary and they have access to too much sugary junk which converts to fat because corporate jobs don't allow them to burn off the fat. I've seen this firsthand with many once fine sisters who blew up like houses within a 5 year period. Corporate America was the venue in which Black women CHOSE to let their health go by the wayside, at least the majority of them. Thank you for sharing your views and sentiments on this Dear Sista! Much obliged!

Q: I want to find out about skin lightening or evening out my skintone. I am a dark skinned 46 year old black female, I do not use bleaching creams because they are cancerous, and I think that it borders on black female self hatred, But I have uneven, and very dry dark skin color, I would like to get my skin all to one tone, and moist and healthy. Do you have any ideas, or recipes for a natural bleaching cream?

    A:

Skin tone changes based upon life changes, just as your hands change based upon life changes. Live healthy, holistic, and everything will come back into balance. You see, evidently you did something for the skin to become uneven, after all, the skin was not always uneven. Something happened based upon what was going on in your life, and things you were doing and thinking. Go back to that period and reflect and start from there. Do the reverse and the healing will begin.

Q: I am a 60 yr old black female. I am 5ft 2in and 155 lbs. good health basically except for hypertension treated with meds. I take lopressor 25mg b.i.d. otherwise in pretty good shape. I have been experiencing shoulder pain that radiates to my forearm with some swelling. All x-rays have been negative. Can you suggest what may be causing this problem? It is not constant, but very frequent and uncomfortable, especially at night.

Q: I was watching some video on Dr. Sebi, and he mentions how the black people need to eat vegetables and nutrients, that are electically charged, complete, and ph balanced. Is that what your supplements are similiar to?

    A:

Our supplements are 100% natural plant life herbs. Our products work best with foods that are raw like fresh fruits, vegetables, raw nuts and raw seeds. Cooking foods take out the natural nutrients and enzymes that are beneficial to our health. Keeping a raw food diet can play a major role in our health.

Q: Hi, I'm a 51 year old black woman. I have been living with chronic pain for the past two years. I had several medical tests without any definite findings. There has been some talk of MS. My feet, legs and back hurt all the time. I ordered the female detox but upon reading it seems that I need the total body cleanse. Please let me know of anyone the Columbus, Ohio area that may be able to assist me.

    A:

I would recommend the FULL BODY DETOX (FBD) and then you should see chiropractic for the pain. The FBD should help with the pain though.
