Bring The Sizzle On National Fajita Day

Before fajitas even arrive at your restaurant table, they announce their presence with the signature sizzling sound. You can hear that sound over all the chatter, television volume, and kitchen clamor in the restaurant. The sound means one thing: deliciousness is on the way.

 

Fajitas are a classic Tex-Mex creation, inspired by Tejano cuisine in the southwest United States. The origin of the dish dates back to when ranch hands used to receive part of their pay in the form of a strip steak, but fajitas have evolved to become a combination of grilled vegetables, seafood, meat, and poultry. All of the sizzling items are wrapped in the steamed tortillas, serving as the vessels to transport all those flavors to your mouth.

 

The base of any great fajita recipe starts with a well-balanced marinade or spice mixture. And don’t go out and purchase a packet of fajita seasoning because it is most likely filled with excess sodium, dyes, chemical flavor enhancers, and it just won’t compare to the flavor of real spices and fresh ingredients. A great marinade, if you are using cauliflower or tempeh, begins with olive oil, fresh lime juice, liquid aminos, and a dash of freshly squeezed orange juice. The rest of the flavor will come from the spice rack. Chili powder, cumin, garlic powder (or freshly minced garlic), paprika, oregano, sea salt, pepper, and onion powder are the spices that you want to use for the marinade. Alternatively, you can season vegetables with these spices and eliminate the liquid base if you are only making veggie fajitas.

 

The beauty of fajitas is that it they can become a customizable buffet of tasty toppings and fillings. Make your own fresh pico de gallo salsa (recipe here), chunky guacamole (click here for recipe), and plate lime wedges and the vessels of your choice. You can use tortillas, collard leaves, or lettuce leaves.

    Q: I just completed the Full Body Cleanse about two weeks ago and started the Pancreas Formula for my pancreas... I don?t have the money for the full kit but after the Full Body Cleanse I?ve notice my blood averaging +-200.....it had reached a low of 124 during detox.     Q: Sorry to bother you again but you are a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate all your information you give us. I am 44yrs old and have 20 pounds to lose. After I quit taking EHEDRINE I started gaining my weight back. I use to take EPHEDRINE to keep the weight off and no longer am able to order it in my state of Minnesota because it is banned.     Q: I see also that you recommend a complete diet with these programs. I am guessing its a vegan diet right? I wanted to ask something on that is coconut milk and coconut oils ok for that? I personally had a very hard time trying to eat that many vegetables and many ph balance vegans seem to think fruits aren?t good either. I eat that many vegetables one it tears me up the next day and two I just cant consume enough calories that way. I can try and make up for it by eating things like almonds but I eat to many almonds I get the same problem the next day. Now coconut milk (unsweetened) and a digestive enzyme works for me for picking up extra calories.... but I hear very conflicting information about coconut and its saturated fat content. Is it ok to use daily as a part of the diet for cleansing? And your oxy-drops are those the same as the drop for ph balancing water?? Or is it something different?     Q: Is sea salt and warm water a good natural laxative? If so how often do you recommend the use of sea salt for elimination? I was reading The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs and it gives this recommendation, along with drinking lemon water mixed with organic syrup and cayenne pepper. Is it safe to give myself an enema 2xs per day using a hot water bottle filled with fresh squeezed organic lemon and distilled water?     You can do it as often as you FEEL the need to drink or take it.

    Q: I'm a raw vegan, and still suffering from acne. I stay away from all sweeteners, except fresh whole fruits. I started to have lots of greens juices these days, and my skin has improved a little bit. What about spices such a cayenne pepper, is it bad for your skin? What about goji berries?     Q: I was looking at your recipes for infant milk. I am breast feeding but need to wean. I was interested in giving him rice milk (Rice Dream enriched with vitamin a, c, and other vitamins). However, the website says not for use as infant formula. Why would this not be a good substitute? What would this be lacking? Why is your recipe a complete formula for proper infant nutrition?
