Change Up Your Smoothie Game With These Surprising Ingredients

tying-shoe-smoothie

Drinking a smoothie might be one of the best ways to fill your body with nutrients in one fell swoop. Smoothies can help give you an energy boost, keep you hydrated, and add more fruits and vegetables into your diet. Most people probably wouldn’t eat spinach, strawberries, bananas, dates, cucumbers, and blueberries on a plate, but a smoothie combines those ingredients into a flavorful drink.

A lot of people who make smoothies have their go-to ingredients. There’s nothing wrong with this, but sometimes it’s important to branch out and try new flavor combinations. Additionally, using different ingredients can provide you with other nutritional benefits. The next time you make a smoothie, try adding one or more of the following smoothie ingredients to change up your smoothie game.

#1: Avocados

Adding avocados to your smoothies is a great way to get a smooth, creamy texture and healthy doses of omega-3 fatty acids. The best part about avocado is that it is pretty tasteless in the smoothie. Blending an avocado with banana, almond butter, raw cacao powder, and blueberries is a great smoothie option. Much like bananas, you can cut avocados that are overripe and freeze them in a re-sealable bag for later smoothie use.

#2: Broccoli

Broccoli is one of the best plant-based proteins out there. You can hardly taste it when you add it to smoothies, so don’t worry about that. It is a nutrient powerhouse, containing manganese, potassium, phosphorus, and vitamins C & K. It only has 31 calories per cup! Add 1 cup of broccoli to a smoothie with ingredients like bananas, strawberries, and almond butter.

#3: Cucumber

Cucumbers are a great way to get extra hydrated because they are about 96% water. They help liquefy smoothies, especially ones with thicker ingredients and ice. Cucumbers add a subtle, refreshing taste and go great with lemons, blueberries, melon, and coconut water.

#4: Steel Cut Oats

Let us clarify that you should not add instant oatmeal to your smoothies. In fact, you should never by that chemical-laden, processed stuff. Use steel cut oats to get a healthy dose of plant-based protein in your smoothie. Steel cut oats contain nutrients that can help lower your blood pressure. Try them in a smoothie with banana, almond butter, a dash of cinnamon, and 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk.

#5: Green Tea

This is an interesting one, but it can be a great addition to afternoon smoothies for a little pick-me-up. Steer clear of the afternoon coffee and add a half-cup of green tea to your smoothie. Find your favorite flavor combination and you can add a little agave to sweeten it up.

Q: Hi, I am trying to find out if I can eat the following items while on my cleanse: - Oatmeal (breakfast) - egg whites - smoothies (can I use Smoothie King or Panet Smoothie or I have to make my own)

    A:

The literature clearly states ONLY RAW FOODS (please see the article "WHAT IS RAW FOODS" in our articles section). You can make your own smoothies or purchase them. Your choice!

Q: Thanks for all of the information which is very beneficial I must say. My question to you is what's the best type of aloe vera juice to drink? Also I have heard that the gel from the plant can be mixed into a smoothie, is that true? Greetings! As far as the best brand I really wouldn't know as there are a few good brands on the market. Just make sure your aloe vera juice is at 99% pure and with no additives. Aloe gel can be added to a fruit smoothie though

    A:

I personally wouldn't add it to a fruit smoothie.

Q: Can I use soy or almond milk for the smoothie:

    A:

Unfortunately you cannot use either milk for a smoothie as you are not allowed to consume any dairy. Soy is not a natural food and most store brought almond milk is pasteurized and contains preservatives that helps maintain shelf life. You can consume almond milk if it's homemade. We do have a raw homemade almond milk recipe available on our website.

Q: Is it okay for a person with diabetes to have a fruit smoothie in the mornings during the full body detox?

    A:

YES!!!! Just watch your sugar because most diabetics have sugar problems due to bad sugar mixed with good sugar (from fruit -- fructose).

Q: I WANTED TO KNOW HOW DO YOU MAKE A SMOOTHIE ON full body cleanse? And can you not mix any of the food combined if it says not to?

    A:

You can check our website for numerous great smoothie recipes.

Ideally, to make a smoothie, use a base (some kind of fruit juice, water, or nut milk), add some frozen fruit or non-frozen fruit (your favorite fruit), add a little ice and BLEND (for about 1 minute)! Wa la ... you have a fruit smoothie!

    Q:

    A:

Hi! Thanks for the question. The chia shake should be fine as long as the chia is soaked in the drink.

Eating small seeds like chia and flax seeds can go through digestion whole and be wasted. Soaking, sprouting, and grinding before consumption increases the likely hood that the small seeds will get digested and their nutrients utilized properly.

Q: Hello, Is it okay to drink the naked fruit smoothie on the 10 day detox. I read the label and no sugar and additives are in the drink. Thank you

A: Unfortunately you cannot consume any pre-made store juices or smoothies. Those kind of beverages contain preservatives and additives to help sustain shelf life and is also pasteurized (processed foods).

Q: First off, thank you so much for your responses to my questions regarding my husband heart murmur and weed smoking. Secondly...I am on my third day of the Full Body Detox & it is challenging and invigorating at the same time. My newest question is...how can I make the fruit smoothie that you recommended for drinking in the morning? & can you send my a recipe?

    A:

A few recipes are in the Alternative Diet and Lifestyle Manual.

Use 1 cup of fruit juice (of your liking), 1 cup of frozen fruit (i.e. banana, strawberries, mango, etc.), 1 cup of ice (optional). Blend for about 30 seconds! Drink and enjoy!

Q: When looking at the Food Combining Chart I was wondering if smoothies are not a violation of all of the "recommendations." If it is suggested that certain items not be combined, how can smoothies actually be "healthy" to our bodies aside from the absolute nutrition they provide? Although I make them all the time, are we not potentially setting ourselves up for trouble? Just wondering. Thanks in advance for your expertise.

    A:

    Hi! Thanks for the question.

The food combining chart is a suggestion for "optimal" digestion. It suggests we should eat mono meals optimally. This is often impossible and there is no evidence scientifically for this method. I am not sure how it would be studied anyway.

It is considered best to try to adhere to the rules to the best of your ability. However, mixing fruits and veggies as in a green smoothie is absolutely fine. The benefits of the nutrition you receive will out weigh any digestive disturbance that may occur. Feel safe to have green smoothies in your diet and cleanse.

    Hope this answers your question,

Q: Is it alright to drink part of your fruits and veggies? I have a fruit smoothie for breakfast, and veggie drink in between lunch and dinner, nuts and a piece of fruit in between and a salad and a piece of fruit for dinner.

    A:

Yes, you may drink part of your fruits and vegetables. As long as they are FRESHLY SQUEEZED

    Q:

A: Unfortunately you cannot consume almond milk while on the cleanse unless it's homemade. Most almond milks contain additives that help sustain shelf life. Below is a recipe to homemade almond milk. http://dherbs.com/recipes/110/84/Raw-Almond-Milk.html

Q: Is it okay to use store bought almond milk (Almond Breeze) for smoothies during the Full Body Cleanse or ANTI-VIRAL CLEANSE AND REGIMEN?

    A:

Unfortunately, store brought almond milk is not allowed within the raw food diet. The only way of knowing that the milk is raw, natural, not pasteurized and does not contain any preservatives is if it's homemade. We do have a raw homemade almond milk recipe available on our website. You must avoid all dairy while on both cleanses.

Q: I am the proud purchaser of your FBC system. My husband will be starting the regiment soon. His occupation requires him to work 6p to 6a, thus he sleeps during the day Fri - Mon. The other 3 days he is on a more "normal" schedule. My concern is around what times he should consume his meals/supplements. As you can see, Breakfast and lunch could pose a problem . I am worried that his meals (Smoothies) will throw off his sleep cycle as well. What times frames should he eat at? Do some {raw} ingredients wake you up more? Please advise.

A: Thank for contacting us.  We're happy to hear that you were satisfied with the Cleanse and recommended your husband to do it.  He can adjust the intake of the capsules according to his personal schedule. If he works overnight and is asleep during the day, he can start the regimen when he is up. He should just be sure that he's consuming the formula's every 2-3 hours as instructed.   There are raw foods that helps naturally provide the body with more energy, but they're not the same as consuming caffeinated beverages that would keep him up.  Most raw foods just have multiple benefits.  The Cleanse also helps improve your sleep.

Q: I just ordered the FULL BODY DETOX and I know there's a dietary regimen that I will have to follow. I was wondering if you would approve of a protein shake that consist of (raw hemp protein powder, raw almond butter, sea salt, flax seed, 100% young coconut water & meat inside the coconut, raw carob powder,) (optional soy or rice milk or soy or rice cream)

    A:

Doesn't sound like it will mess up your FULL BODY DETOX. Go for it! But leave out the rice/soy cream! The rice milk is okay (but it is processed/cooked)!

Q: For the last 2 weeks, I've been eating only raw foods. My daily intake mainly consist of snow beans, green beans (string beans), kale, carrots, a small amount butter and crackers, bananas, apples, pears, lettuce, tomatoes, dates, spinach and filtered water. My question is: Am I getting the required nutrients and how would I know if I were not and specifically, how would I know what nutrient was missing. I also take the MALE HORMONAL FORMULA and JACKRABBIT FORMULA (regardless of whether I intend to engage in sexual activity).

    A:

OF COURSE! WHAT TO KNOW FOR SURE? GO GET A MINERAL TEST DONE. FIND SOMEONE IN YOUR TOWN WHO DOES NUTRITIONAL TESTING OR LIVE BLOOD CELL MICROSCOPY.

Q: I see also that you recommend a complete diet with these programs. I am guessing its a vegan diet right? I wanted to ask something on that is coconut milk and coconut oils ok for that? I personally had a very hard time trying to eat that many vegetables and many ph balance vegans seem to think fruits aren?t good either. I eat that many vegetables one it tears me up the next day and two I just cant consume enough calories that way. I can try and make up for it by eating things like almonds but I eat to many almonds I get the same problem the next day. Now coconut milk (unsweetened) and a digestive enzyme works for me for picking up extra calories.... but I hear very conflicting information about coconut and its saturated fat content. Is it ok to use daily as a part of the diet for cleansing? And your oxy-drops are those the same as the drop for ph balancing water?? Or is it something different? I am wanting to start lifting weights as I need to put on some muscle and I?m wondering if its something that would be beneficial in combating muscle soreness by increased oxygen in the body.

    A:

The diet we recommend is vegan-based, and RAW FOODS. Fresh fruits, vegetables, raw nuts and seeds are ideal.

Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil are excellent products to have in your diet. The healthy fats will keep you fuller.

Oxy-Drops can help balance your electrolytes that need to be replenished after a workout in order to keep your body performing efficiently.

Q: Thank you so much for doing all that you do. I wish that you were in my everyday life...If I ever come to Cali, I hope to be able to take you up on some of your services. I have given your site out to many people that cross my paths...most recently, a man with diabetes who is going blind. He seemed to be quite thankful for your info...I do hope that he contacts you...and my friend who perhaps has a problem with a parasite(s). But me....okay just waiting for tax refund and then I will hit you up for another full-body detox...and perhaps a parasite kit myself...as it is sad but true..with my current boyfriend careless but kind...I now have a problem with genital herpes...a small breakout every other month...I eat well for the most part...ofcourse it could be better. But the stress is hish...I am working on that. But my question is...would an air purifier do me any good? You see I live in Dundalk, Maryland...near baltimore...near a Steel plant, and a yeast plant, and close to the military practice bombing sites, and other military negative stuff, and the city polluted with car pollution, tons of light pollution, and they spray for mosquitos...then I go to work and I work at a place called ABC Supply...great place right, well the stress is high, and the building we work in is shot...I swear there is mold under the carpets in one of the rooms...the ceiling is constantly leaking and we don't know what from...and the fumes from forklifts and the asphalt from the shingles...the filterfrom the intake gets changed like once a year...but is filled with 'shit' probably in a day or week. So the answer is to get a new job and move...yeah I know...I just don’t know how to do it...or where to go. Since I moved here, I have a problem with my ears...filling up with water or histimine or whatever...usually if I don't drink enough water near my menstrual cycle...I went to a doctor once and basically walked out of the office telling him what to do for his cold...yasee..he was no help...I knew more than him already....these past two years have been bad for allergies. Now, my ears and my throat...my nose too...though I do clean it out with water and that helps. I am not the only one. In the past two years there is a great number of people who say the same thing...they have never had a problem with allergies until these past two years. My grandmother and next door neighbor are two..but many more...well they just started up that steel mill again probably about that time...they sprayed hard core for mosquitos right before my grandmother started having problems...global warming for one...and i dont' know..but two years ago I was involved with a group of people sending out petitions against an LNG liquid natural gas plant that would bring in a ship two times the size of a football field and a huge pipe line to pennsylvania, and a skyscraper of a building to store the gas. Well...we fought against it...but apparently the gas company has more say than our own local government...I don't know...but hear about it every once in a while that they are still trying to get it built. So, an air purifier?? what do you think? Much Love and Health and Thanks!! Peace, RESPONSE: Thank you so very much for your words, Beloved. Much obliged from the heart!

    A:

In regards to your question: Oh yes! By all means purchase an air purifier or an ozone machine (which will actually be best or better for you). Make sure you detox (FULL BODY DETOX) periodically, consume ACTIVATED CHARCOAL, and take plenty of IODINE PHOSPHATE as sea weed is great for neutralizing the effects of radiation.

Q: After being diagnosed with Scleroderma 20 years ago. I began to get pains in my stomach, more like a ball rising up on both sides. This was extremely painful. I have to sit still, until the pain leaves. It feels like I am a pregnant, and the baby is moving. For the past 4 years I've been having fruit smoothies for breakfast. Could having the smoothies, be the reason for whatever is happening inside of my body?

    A:

What type of fruit smoothies are you having? If your smoothies consist of only fruits then no. The fruit smoothies have nothing to do with what's going on inside your body. You might just be in need of a good cleanse. Eat only when you are hungry. Try not to over eat or drink your fruit smoothies, yes they are good for you but only eat what your stomach is asking for.
