Did You Know THIS About Pickle Juice?

Pickle Juice Benefits

Pickle juice has gotten a lot of attention lately because, let’s be honest, it’s kind of the perfect home remedy. Everyone has it in their fridge. And it’s just weird enough that people think, “Huh. That might actually be true.” Below you’ll find an amazing list of pickle goodness, which was adapted from Nancy Swope.

1. Post-workout Drink

Forget coconut water. Athletes swear by pickle juice’s scientifically proven benefits to exercise recovery. In one 2010 study, pickle juice halted post-workout muscle cramps in 85 seconds. That, plus its electrolyte-restoring powers has even yielded Pickle Juice Sport – a dill-flavored sports drink. But really, most athletes stick to good old Vlasic!

2. PMS Remedy

For those same reasons, pickle juice is widely used as a cure for menstrual cramps. It may also prevent you from eating four bags of potato chips in one day. Not that we ever did that. That was a friend.

3. Potato Pick-me-up

Add a heavy splash of pickle juice to a pot of simple boiled potatoes for a fantastic side dish. The flavors absorb so perfectly you won’t want to add salt, butter, sour cream, or anything to these taters once you’re done. Making potato salad? Skip the mayo, and toss with veggies and pickle juice for a much healthier (and more flavorful) version.

4. Hangover cure

If you can stomach it on a hangover tummy, pickle juice is a known folk remedy that actually works. It replenishes your depleted sodium levels and helps to assist in rehydration. In many countries, people even take a shot of pickle juice before going out to help prevent dehydration in the first place.

5. Vinegar replacement

Pickle juice works in place of vinegar in salad dressing, soups, or virtually any recipe. It is essentially vinegar on steroids.

6. Heartburn cure

Along with its flavor-boosting benefits, pickle juice seems to have the same health effects as straight-up vinegar. Particularly effective as a heartburn soother, pickle juice may also help to avoid blood-sugar spikes if taken with a meal.

7. Cleaning Agent

Food industry insiders have been using pickle juice to clear blackened copper pans for years. It also works well as a grill cleaner, making those charred, crusted-on bits much easier to scrape off.

8. Dill Pickle Bread

Make this. Make it now.

9. Pickle popsicles

True, you can buy these on pickleaddicts.com (actual, real thing), but you can also just pour some of this glorious nectar into pop molds, paper cups, or ice-cube trays and make your own savory summer snack.

(DHERBS note: If you do this please let us know how it tastes. We were too scared to try it! :-)

10. Re-pickler

Or maybe you just want some more pickles? Empty your vegetable drawer and throw some onions, carrots, peppers, whatever, into the jar of leftover pickle juice. Let them sit for a few days and BOOM: new pickles!

11. Weed killer

The high vinegar and salt content of pickle juice has made it a longtime favorite with gardeners. Dumping it on dandelions, thistle, and virtually all common weeds that crop up around your home. Bonus, it’s pet-friendly and you probably already have it in your fridge!

12. Recipe add-on

We lost track of all the things you can add pickle juice to, but some favorites include: BBQ sauce, hummus, chicken salad, mac ‘n’ cheese, gazpacho, deviled eggs, vinaigrette, borscht, beet salad, salsa, bean dip, sauerbraten, and meatloaf.

13. Hiccup Stopper

We’ve found little scientific evidence backing up this claim (and, frankly, we’re glad the scientists are working on other things), but many, many people claim that the number-one cure for hiccups is a small glass of pickle juice. Given how well this stuff works on everything else in the world, we believe it.

Q: I started my full body detox program yesterday and this morning I stopped into Jamba Juice to get a wheatgrass shot. I also got a pomegranate juice, strawberry, peach and mango drink with a mega green tea boost...I drank maybe about 4 oz of the drink and trashed it. I had the worst headache I've ever experienced in my life! Was it from the sugar in the juice? They claim to be all-natural or was it from the fasting? Would you recommend this establishment for those seeking to get their body clean?

    A:

It's best to stay on raw fruit and vegetable juices during your detox. Or, try some of the recipes for smoothies, vegetable juice, and delicious herbal teas mentioned and listed in the Full Body Detox Companion ($20)

Q: I was wondering if it is okay to mix Mrs. Dash season blend with Olive Oil as a dressing for my salad? It tastes real bad with just Olive Oil alone, and I don't like the bitterness taste of lemon juice, and apple vinegar cider. A:

Do as you please as far as dressing goes! Just stay away from harmful ingredients! Mrs. Dash, seasonings, Olive Oil,

Q: I have been drinking nettles tea as well as parsley juice and a tea made of marshmallow, gravel and hydrangea roots to control my potassium levels. I have noticed that my potassium numbers are less controllable now that I do dialysis once or twice a week. I know they give me a “K-bath" and I suspect that it keeps my potassium higher to discourage me from eating fruits and veggies and to make me feel jittery enough to keep going back. Actually the doctor told me not to juice or eat fruits at all. I will be ordering your FULL BODY DETOX this week, However, I want your input on how to control my potassium.

    A:

You control your potassium levels by not worrying about it - eating how God intended you to eat. Beloved, just eat NATURAL food (fruits, vegetables, seed, and nuts) and you'll be all right. P.S. - apples and bananas are good sources of potassium!

Q: Have you heard that drinking beet juice with a table or teaspoon of black strap molasses gets rid of fibroids? Beet juice purifies the blood. But, this has to be done everyday.

A: Beet juice is a great blood purifier and excellent for supplementary use. But in order to fully eliminate fibroids, you should consider performing the Fibroid Cleanse, as it naturally works to strengthen and purify the female reproductive system while helping with the reduction of fibroids.

Q: Thanks for all of the information which is very beneficial I must say. My question to you is what's the best type of aloe vera juice to drink? Also I have heard that the gel from the plant can be mixed into a smoothie, is that true? Greetings! As far as the best brand I really wouldn't know as there are a few good brands on the market. Just make sure your aloe vera juice is at 99% pure and with no additives. Aloe gel can be added to a fruit smoothie though

    A:

I personally wouldn't add it to a fruit smoothie.

Q: I started the full body detox today, and found that I DO NOT like the salad dressing I made with the olive oil, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. I found I could not tolerate it on my salad. What can I do instead? Another question is... I noticed lentils on the food combining chart. Those have to be cooked. Are those actually allowed to be consumed warm? I love the raw fruits and vegetables. I don?t have a problem, cause I love salads. I just need help on what I can have on it.

    A:

Check out our website for raw salad dressing recipes. You are bound to find one you like.

As for lentils, you are NOT allowed to have them while on the cleanse.

Q: Lunch is organic salad dressing allowed or maybe fresh lemon juice and some extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) (cold pressed)

    A:

Organic salad dressing is a healthy alternative, but because they're bottled they usually contain preservatives to sustain their condition on store shelves. We recommend sticking to raw and fresh ingredients like using extra virgin olive oil as a base for homemade dressings. Adding apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, sea salts and other spices are common ingredients for homemade dressings.

Q: I am interested in starting the Full Body Detox program. At this time, I would like to know which program is best for me. At current, I have started removing things from my diet as of 2 weeks ago (pork, chicken, red meat, I'm trying with the fish but it's hard!) I am not eating cheese but I still eat yogurt and every now and then I will eat a boiled egg (egg whites). I have removed soda from my diet, no coffee, I drink herbal or green tea, pomegranate juice or orange juice and I drink filtered water (I have a countertop filter that I change every 6 months and the Brita pitcher that I change every 2 months). Along with the supplement, is there an eating plan that you can suggest for me? I am eating more fruits and vegetables, but I would welcome suggestions on certain foods that I can eat while I begin my cleansing.

    A:

The Full Body Detox kit comes with a prescribed dietary plan and notifies a person what they can and cannot eat during the detox.

Q: I'm doing the Full Body Cleanse and I have a few questions about it: I get tired of drinking just the distilled water and I'd like to drink the herbal teas, but I don't like it by itself. Would it mess things up to add a pack or two of Splenda to my tea or maybe honey? I can't stand the salads with the olive oil or apple cider vinegar or the lemon juice as dressing and it makes me gag. I have To have some sort of salad dressing. What kind would be suitable? Do I look for sugar-free? Or organic and natural? I found one that is organic and natural, but it has 3 grams of sugar in it. Without eating all my whole grained breads and other fiber, I haven't had much of a bowel movement in 3 days, should I wait a while yet? (I had surgery on my bowels and always had to take fiber tablets and eat lots of grains to get my bowels to move.) I haven't done the enemas yet, (low on money) should I try that? Or should I resume my fiber tablets I normally take? Any type of fiber I could add to my fruit smoothies in the morning? I want to also do the female cleanse. Is it ok to do that immediately after I finish the full body cleanse or should I wait for a little while? Thank you for all your help, I feel much better than I did before and I just started this detox a week ago, lost 10 pounds, too, woohoooooo! Thank you

    A:

    1. Instead of splenda, use agave, stevia, or grade b maple syrup as a sweetener.

    2. In re Salad Dressing, an organic and natural one is great. You can also check our website for salad dressing recipes.

    3. The fiber pills are not part of the cleanse, so we wouldn't advise those. Fruit is you best choice of fiber so look into eating more papaya, mango, figs, etc. And yes, colonics (and enemas) would greatly help you - undoubtedly!

    4. You can do the Female Cleanse right after you finish detoxing. There's no need to wait!

Q: Is it better to eat one meal a day, just juice?

    A:

No, your body will be unable to operate efficiently, and you may suffer from low energy levels, impaired focus, low concentration, and other symptoms. Your body needs NUTRIENTS from food in order to perform efficiently. You may drink fresh juice, but eat raw foods so your body can get what it needs.
