The summer sun, while pleasant and perfect for tanning, does not help you stay hydrated. In fact, it works hard to dehydrate you, which is why it is important that you keep replenishing your fluids, specifically water. It is especially important to drink lots of water on National Hydration Day.
More than 60% of the human body is made up of water, which is why it is crucial that you always stay hydrated. Normally, the best way to stay properly hydrated is to drink half your bodyweight in ounces of water per day. For example, if you weigh 150lbs and divide that by 2 to get 75, you should be drinking 75oz of water every day. In the summer months, however, we recommend drinking a little more than that, especially if you are going to be taking part in outdoor activities.
There are many ways that you can avoid dehydration. Make sure to drink water during sports or physical activities. It is also beneficial to eat hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumber, cantaloupe, zucchini, tomato, strawberries, or pineapple. You can also add things like lemon, mint, basil, blueberries, cucumber, or ginger to your water.
Always carry around a reusable water bottle. Don’t just carry it, though; make sure you continually refill it with water. Double-walled stainless steel bottles are the best because they can keep your water nice and cool, even if they sit in the sun. Additionally, make it a priority to have at least one glass of water with every meal.
Enjoy the summer and all the fun things there are to do in the warmer months. Just remember to stay hydrated.
