The same test may be performed with a combination of starches and proteins-the extraction of parts of chyme at intervals, as they happen during our digestion, will always show this arrest of ptyalin digestion, meaning that the starches then unsplit will never be properly split.”

EAT FOODS YOU INGEST SEQUENTIALLY, I.E., IN PROPER ORDER

Sequential Eating Diet was evolved individually by Dr. Moses Maimonides, Dr. Anne Longworthy Waite, Dr. John Tilden and eastern mystic Baha’u’llah. They respectively, wrote that they helped heal thousands of patients with various “hopeless” diseases, by employing the Sequential Eating Diet. This is eating foods separately and in proper order. Eat the simplest food first and progressively increase the complexity of the foods that follow, until you eat the most complex foods at that meal, last.

SPECIFIC ENZYMES ACT UPON SPECIFIC FOOD SUBSTANCES TO AID DIGESTION

Dr. Herbert Shelton, Natural Hygiene practitioner, wrote, “The changes through which foods go in the process of digestion are effected by a group of agencies known as enzymes or unorganized ferments…Each enzyme is specific in its action. This is to say, it acts only upon one class of food substance. The enzymes that act upon carbohydrates do not and cannot act upon proteins nor upon salts nor fats. They are even more specific than this would indicate. For example, in the digestion of closely related substances, such as the disaccharides (complex sugars), the enzyme that acts upon maltose is not capable of acting upon lactose. Each sugar seems to require its own specific enzyme. The physiologist, Howell, tells us that there is no clear proof that any single enzyme can produce more than one kind of ferment action. This specific action of enzymes is of importance, as there are various stages in the digestion of foodstuffs, each stage requiring the action of a different enzyme, and the various enzymes being capable of performing their work only in the preceding work has been properly performed by the enzymes that also precede. If pepsin, for example, has not converted proteins into peptones, the enzymes that convert peptones into amino acids will not be able to act upon the proteins.” Shelton wrote, “The Basic Rules of Proper Food Combining”:1.Eat acids and starches at separate meals. Acids neutralize the alkaline medium required for starch digestion and the result is fermentation and indigestion. 2. Eat protein foods and carbohydrate foods at separate meals. Protein foods require an acid medium for digestion. 3. Eat but one kind of protein food at a meal. 4. Eat proteins and acid foods at separate meals. The acids of acid foods inhibit the secretion of the digestive acids required for protein digestion. Undigested protein putrefies in bacterial decomposition and produces some potent poisons. 5. Eat fats and proteins at separate meals. Some foods, especially nuts, are over 50% fat and require hours for digestion. 6. Eat sugars (fruits) and proteins at separate meals. 7. Eat sugars (fruits) and starchy foods at separate meals. Fruits undergo no digestion in the stomach and are held up if eaten with foods that require digestion in the stomach. 8. Eat melons alone. They combine with almost no other food. 9. Desert the desserts. Eaten on top of meals they lie heavy on the stomach, requiring no digestion there, and ferment. Bacteria turn them into alcohols and vinegars and acetic acids.

FOODS YOU EAT IN INCOMPATIBLE MIXTURES, WILL POISON YOUR BODY

Dr. Virginia V. Vetrano, Natural Hygiene Practitioner, writes, “When foods are eaten in incompatible mixtures, the efficiency of digestive enzymes is reduced and the food will decompose in the digestive tract. The products of fermentation and putrefaction, which result from bacterial decomposition, will poison the body when absorbed by the small intestine.”

Vetrano writes “If one were to take tomatoes with potatoes, the potatoes would not be properly digested because the acid of the tomato destroys the alkaline medium which is necessary for the action of ptyalin. Meanwhile fermentation takes place in the stomach because if digestive enzymes don’t hydrolyze the food, the bacteria will turn it into alcohol and acetic acid. These poisons are absorbed by the villi of the small intestine and irritate every organ and tissue with which they come in contact. The whole organism is alerted of the danger by the nervous system and assists in their expulsion. This causes enervation by making the body work hard to eliminate toxic material. To keep up gastrointestinal activity when the enzyme necessary for proper digestion is rendered inactive by acid, also wastes nerve energy. One’s health and strength is built by what one can digest, absorb and assimilate. If poisonous bacterial wastes are absorbed instead of nutrients, health cannot be maintained or built.”

Vetrano writes “The products of fermentation irritate all tissues with which they come in contact. Daily gastrointestinal irritation from the products of fermentation may cause the gastric irritation to progress to inflammation and then from there to ulceration and finally cancer.” “The (Natural)Hygienist does not agree with the thought of physiologists that salivary and gastric digestion are unimportant. The thoroughness with which enzymes do their work depends upon the amount of time they have in which to work. Chemical analysis of fecal residues indicate that starch and protein are better utilized when eaten separately than when eaten together. It seems indisputable that foods required an alkaline condition for their digestion should not be eaten with foods necessitating an acid condition for their digestion.”

DON’T MIX PROTEIN & CARBOHYDRATE. THEY PREVENT DIGESTION

Dr. Arthur Cason in London, England, wrote about two groups of experiments made by him and his aides which showed that the eating of protein and carbohydrate at the same meal retards and even prevents digestion.     Q: I am a massage therapist. During a year long detox with the help of a Naturopath I lost about 40 pounds. However, I could only lose weight while fasting.     Q: I am a 55 year old female. I have an overactive bladder. I am trying to control it myself, without medication. I have not tried herbs.     Q: Thank you for always answering my questions. I have about two more. Okay, I'm currently living overseas where I'm limited on raw fresh foods (vegetables and fruits). I want to do the detox but I'm concerned that I won't have everything as far as raw food to be successful. I have access to basics (apples, oranges, bananas, tomatoes, avocados, melons, lettuce, cabbage, bean spouts, carrots, celery, peppers, green beans, peas, bagged nuts,) but nothing exotic by any means. Then I was told to safely eat some of the food in the local economy that we should wash it with a 5% bleach solution (is that safe...and if on the detox I'm thinking that would be a no go). Two questions?Given the mentioned availability of raw foods could I be able to successfully complete the detox (I don't have an issue with eating the same things over and over again) and two what can I do to clean local produce so that its safe for consumption?
