Did you let yourself go this Thanksgiving? Did you eat until you were uncomfortable? Are you wondering how you are going to feel normal again? We have some awesome nutritional information about how to help you get back on they healthy path. These tips will help to keep you from lounging on your couch all weekend and eating leftovers.
Before we give you any tips, we have to tell you one important thing: Don’t beat yourself up! When you feel guilty about what you ate, it can actually lead to emotional binge eating or stress eating. You can’t undo what you did, but you can make healthier choices in the present.
Exercise With A Workout DVD Or Game
We know DVDs are dated for some of you, but people still have them! You can also find workout videos online for free. This is a great way to get moving in the comfort of your own home. If you have family over, you all can exercise together. These workouts typically last 30 minutes to an hour, which is the perfect amount of time to workout. You can also insert a fitness game on whatever console you have, if you have that. They are fun, engaging, and can help you burn some calories.
Go For A Walk
While the exercise video is a good option for a high intensity workout, you can also take a walk around your neighborhood. Take a chance to enjoy the beautiful fall weather. A recent study showed that taking a walk after a big meal helped to decrease the amount of fat that the body stores for energy by about 70%.
Get Rid Of Leftovers
The best thing you can do for yourself is to get leftovers out of your house. Having all of the leftovers in your house tempts you to continue eating tons of food. Encourage, nay, force guests to leave with food, so that it is out of sight and out of mind. You might be thinking, “I can portion out my leftovers, so I don’t eat as much.” No, you can’t. In general, the majority of people do not have portion control, especially when it comes to holiday food.
Stock Up On Veggies
When you do your Thanksgiving shopping, make sure that you buy some extra veggies because you are going to need them to help yourself detox from all the food you ate. You can make salads or sautéed vegetable dishes to help your body burn fat and improve digestion. Additionally, the fiber from all of the fresh vegetables is going to help normalize your bowels, which is essential after a big meal with starches and carbs.
Increase Your Fluid Intake
It is best to drink more water than you usually do in the days after Thanksgiving. Drinking 8-10 8oz glasses of water a day is suggested, but you should exceed this number to help flush out toxins and extra water from your system. A lot of people retain water after Thanksgiving and drinking water can help your body release that water. Sounds backwards, but it is 100% true.
We hope these tips help you get back on track!
