What Is Meat?

Meat is considered animal flesh that is eaten for food. Meat is mainly muscle tissue from an animal. These muscles are made of bundles of cells called fibers.

The most popular types of meat include chicken, beef, turkey, lamb, veal, fish, shrimp, lobster and crab.

Animal Meat

To know what meat is, always ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does it have a face and a tail?
  • Was it born or did it hatch from an egg?
  • Does it grow up from out of the Earth from a seed?

If what you’re eating was born from the womb of a female creature or hatched out of an egg, it’s meat. If what you’re eating is not the result of a seed that sprouted up from out of the ground, it’s not meat.

There are many people who claim to be vegetarian but still eat chicken, turkey, fish or seafood.

Health Risks

The U.S. Department of Agriculture lists lean meat as a healthy component of a balanced diet. However, the consumption of meat promotes a known health risks.

There are other food options available at the grocery store. Our diets no longer need to be centered around meat. Instead, we can eat more fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains.

Many people consider meat to be a healthy component of a balanced diet. However, meat contains a high amount of calories when compared to fibrous vegetables such as broccoli or green beans.

Those who eat large quantities of meat tend to be obese. There is also a greater risk of diabetes and heart disease. Red meat and processed meat are especially dangerous to one’s health. They generally have a higher percentage of fat and calories.

Vegetarian

People may transition to a vegetarian lifestyle for a variety of reasons. A meat-free diet is a more healthy and ethical way to live.

Cruel practices and the environmental issues involved in the meat industry has encouraged many people to remove meat from their diet.

The term “vegetarian” can mean very different things. For example, lacto-ovo vegetarians are those who avoid animal flesh but still eat eggs and milk products. While vegans forego eating and wearing all animal products. Raw foodists are vegans who primarily eat raw fruits, vegetables, legumes, sprouts, and nuts.

True vegetarians eat food that grows from the ground up. These foods include fruit, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts and legumes. The true meaning of vegetarian has led many people to adopt this term to explain their diet and lifestyle.
