15 Reasons To Go For A Run, Right Now!

0-923410555-fotolia-19536400-subscription-monthly-m

Most people fall into two camps — they either love running, or hate it with a passion. Whichever type you are, the following reasons are why I run and why I think you should give it a shot. By the end of the list, I hope you can put yourself in a new category: Either you’re going for a run in the next five minutes — or you’ll go in the next hour (maybe after your food settles).

1. You can do it anywhere.

Running can be done anywhere — and that is no exaggeration. Wherever you are or whatever you are doing, you can just start running!

2. It’s free!

It doesn’t cost a penny to run. You most likely have items in your wardrobe that are suitable for running. It doesn’t take much: something that covers your body so you don’t get in trouble for indecent exposure, some clean socks, and a decent pair of sneakers.

3. You will be healthier.

Adding running to your life will make you healthier. It can lower your blood pressure, increase blood flow, increase your metabolism, and increase your endurance, just to name a few health benefits. Not to mention that starting a healthy running habit naturally increases the chance that other healthy habits will sneak into your life.

4. Running is a good excuse to eat carbs.

To get your muscles revving, you need carbohydrates. Running gives you an excuse to indulge in some healthy carbohydrates! I am not suggesting you stuff your face with unhealthy food, but healthy carb options will give you the ability to run farther! Some great options for right before a run are fruit or oatmeal. If I am fueling for a longer run, I like sweet potatoes, lasagna made from root vegetables, or quinoa.

5. Your skin will glow.

Sweating is the body’s way to cool down and release toxins in the process. Eliminating toxins from the body can give your skin a healthy glow.

6. Running builds confidence.

When you run, you’re taking control of your health and your future. You’re putting yourself first. Once you get into a routine, you’ll start feeling more confident and will likely inspire some new runners!

7. You become one with your city.

As mentioned above, running around your city or neighborhood can make you feel more connected. You can run by that store you have been meaning to check out and do some quick window shopping. You can be inspired by the local businesses and their delicious smells. You’re taking the time to appreciate your surroundings.

8. You get to buy new shoes. (Not like you needed an excuse.)

I think it is safe to say that most of us like to buy new shoes. Use a new pair of kicks as motivation to get good use out of them! Your feet and knees will appreciate a well-fitting pair of sneakers; it can be like night and day when it comes to your shoes and running! Adidas has great options for different price ranges and styles. They take what your foot needs for a comfortable run into consideration without sacrificing style. Gift yourself a pair of bright, trendy kicks when you complete a mileage goal!

9. It’s an excuse to blast your favorite music.

This is your chance to play whatever music you want. One of my secrets for staying on pace is keeping my music upbeat — hearing a quick tempo makes me go faster than hearing a slow song would.

10. You’ll feel free.

Your run is yours. It isn’t anyone else’s. The run gives you the ability to do exactly what you want and be one with it. Feeling the wind blowing in your face offers a sense of freedom that surrounds your entire body. It is amazing what the open air can do to revitalize the mind and body.

11. Running increases stamina — in many departments.

I will let you use your imagination a little bit on this one! Some specific times it helps are when you’re playing with your children, walking up and down stairs, or doing yard work, just to name a few.

12. You will be one with nature.

Running outside is a wonderful way to reconnect with the great outdoors. During a run I like to observe my surroundings. I notice things I don’t normally notice while driving in my car. It makes me feel more connected to my neighborhood and city.

13. Running provides a sense of accomplishment.

It has a beginning and an end. Starting something from the beginning and seeing it through to the end is an accomplishment. Big or small — you did it and should be proud!

14. You will discover new places.

You don’t necessarily have to run indoors or run along busy streets and trails. Let your mood carry you. If an alley looks interesting, take a turn down there, if there is a nice park over to the left, go check it out. If you see someone running a different way than you, check out their route.

15. You have the opportunity to give back.

Join a charity run. While it may seem odd to pay to run, your payment goes to someone who needs it. It is a great feeling to give back. The bonus is, you get a great run in as well. Running with hundreds of people surrounding you is a great motivator and inspiration to keep up your hard work!

Q: Should I start using the Mucus Buster product I have purchased? I did give the ear coning a try, as well as your Ear Oil extract. I have noticed recently, I have the sensation of "something running in my ear," more specifically the left ear. I have never see anything on my pillow. Yet the ringing persist. I don't want to use the ear oil, while I am experiencing the running sensation. What do you advise?

    A:

Sounds like the lymphatic gland may be unclogging, and allowing mucus to move, use Mucus Buster. You may need about 11 more ear coning session (every other 2 weeks if you can afford it).

Q: My friend was running and heard a pop in his knee. Shortly after, there was tremendous pain and swelling. He also could not extend his leg fully, or bend it backwards past a certain degree. Nor, could he put his weight on it. An MRI revealed that his posterior cruciate ligament(which we were told is very rare)possibly has a complete tear, and would need major surgery eventually. Do you have any suggestions for ways to naturally heal this ligament? He is still experiencing pain after 1 month and the pain medicine (ibuprofen)is causing him to vomit.

    A:

Sometimes, unnatural practices require unnatural approaches to healing, i.e. surgery, physical therapy, etc. Herbs can only assist in the repair but should not expected to do what only surgery and/or other modalities may be other to do (to undo the damage from running). Herbal wise, the person should consume large amounts of MSM Sulfur (9 capsules per day, or 3 capsules 3 times per day), Dherbs.com Joints Formula (3 capsules 2 times per day), and Dherbs.com Enzymes (3 capsules 2 times per day).

Q: I've been plagued by uterine fibroids. I've had 6 surgeries and they keep coming back I tried your detox and female detox plan, eating healthy. I thought I was doing well but they've come back. I want to try to have another child with my husband of 15 years. My doctor wants to do IVF. He says it's our only hope. I'm 39 he says time is running out. I believe there is another way. My doctor is insisting I'm wasting time & money trying to use alternative & herbal remedies. He says if there was a magical herb there would be no plants or trees left. I am ready to accept whatever fate is bestowed upon me but don't want to become homeless in the process. Your honest and professionalism is greatly needed. Sincerely.

    A:

The choice is your and yours alone to make! Naturally, to heal will take some time, just as much time as it took to develop the fibroids via what you ate, thought, did, etc. You have to stay committed to any natural protocol, Beloved! Naturally healing takes time!

Q: I am writing you with concern for my father. He is 54 years old, and was just diagnosed with an enlarged heart. He is very worried, and to be honest I am too. I told him that he immediately needs to go on the Full Body Detox. Start a raw foods diet that includes no meats, and no dairy. Do you think he should get a colonic? Should he get it first? He began running this morning, and has been walking in the evenings. He has a HUGE stomach. It looks as if he is about 8 months pregnant. SOLID! We live in the Philadelphia Area and we are Muslim. The only person we know that is GOOD as far as colonics is a female, and he has some reservations about that. My mother always says "Do what you gotta do". What steps should he take to heal his body? In what order? I know it may be kind of hard to diagnose, or give steps to a third person. I am really concerned, and afraid that his concern may cause more damage to his heart. I am almost certain that my father would not mind talking to you. He may be impressed with your knowledge. All the herbalist we know thus far have been women. As soon as he told us of his illness I immediately thought of you. I pray that you can help us. We all as a family need to get our health together. PLEASE HELP US the best way you can. . . . .

    A:

It's the easiest thing to take care of. Detox the body with the Full Body Detox followed by the 10-Day Electric Greens Cell Food Cleanse. He will drink Hearty Heart tea during both cleanses. The man has eaten himself into this condition via poor diet so reversed diet is the way out. More raw foods (fruits and vegetable), vegetable juice.

Q: My mother had a mastectomy about 33 yrs ago and her arm has always been swollen. Now as she becomes older it is getting larger than ever. She takes meds from the doctor, I think they are fluid pills, this doesn’t seem to help and it keeps her running to the restroom so much she doesn't take the full prescription. What do you suggest for her problem? She also has heart problems that limit her from a lot of exercises.

    A:

Swollen-ness deals with fluid retention and perhaps inflammation. Have her rub carrier oil (olive oil, coconut oil, etc.) on the swollen skin and then rub in some peppermint and/or euclayptus oil (3-4 drops) on top of the carrier oil. Have her soak in hot water and sea salt. Dherbs formulas I recommend are HEADACHE AND PAIN FORMULA , CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM FORMULA, and KIDNEYS AND BLADDER.

Q: Our 12 year old son has recently been diagnosed with asthma (9 months). Since beginning to play football 3 months ago we noticed he had difficulty after running full speed for a while and took him to the doctor. The doctor has prescribed inhalers as treatment (8.5 ProAir HFA Aerosol) and recently changed to 100/50 Advair. We understand that you were able to rid your childhood asthma and want to try your applicable herbal supplement. Please advise what we should order.

    A:

I'd recommend the CHILDREN DETOX (liquid extracts) followed by a daily regimen of CHILDREN LUNG EXTRACT and MUCUS BUSTER TEA (1-2 cups daily) and use of our RESPIRATORY INSPIRANT. And you know the diet MUST change, right? Asthma deals with mucus and mucus is diet-related. The solution is not exclusively taking some herb, but to make changes to the lifestyle and diet.

Q: I've been taking classes on how to be more responsible for myself naturally because, my Naturopath became a burden to my pocket. I have no insurance, and I don't make a great deal of money as a massage therapist. Visits were at least every six weeks. He did more talking (irrelavant to my case) than evaluating. The supplements I could find (same brand) for at least 1/2 the price elsewhere, but was left to trusting him for my first supply. I wasn't even sure why I was taking some of them. I've been reading as many of your articles as I can, in order to get a clue about what's best for me. YOUR GREAT! But there are times when I feel I need expert advice on how my body feels. Though I felt taken advantage of by my Naturopath. Can you give me an idea on how to ID a good one on this side of the world? What would be a typical intake? Price?

    A:

Hmmm! Intake, Price? That's going to vary! The best way to determine anything is based upon your intuition (energy). A good ND listens to you! Their price is pretty economical, or they will work with you to help you out financially. They don't push their products on you, they just inform you on what you need. They let you know you have free will and choice! A good ND will allow you to ask questions and give you answers that suffice your questions.

Q: Greetings & Namaste, First, thank you for being U-activated! So many potential energies unable to convert into kinetic activities because of our Earthly baggage(s). Personally, I haven't found the right formula to keep my beautiful curves, which is the major reason I am not vegan/raw now. In my perfect world, I'd have a great-tasting, non-dairy,wheat & gluten source of protein, juiced exotic veggie/fruit smoothies, yummy raw nuts/raisins, and absolutely no meat- the fountain of youth, literally, running thru my body! As i'm sure the cognitive wheels of your expertise are spiraling ready solutions, I ask that you also factor in social-economic status, and workout regiment. From my perspective, the price of health food is aggressively over-inflated compared to the affordability of processed and junk foods; add to that a general inaccessibility to the impoverished & disenfranchised, and dysfunctional eating psychologies impregnating entire families (for generations). I prefer high energy, high impact, anaerobic & weight-lifting training activities. So, you can see a petite person's dilemma. Thanks so much for your time and thoughts. Ms. Tiffany

Being raw or vegan does not have to be hard or expensive. The most inexpensive food are rice and beans. If you are budget consciense you should gravitate towards those foods. Stach based foods are super cheap. You should check out the book "eating vegan on 4 dollars a day" or any of Dr. Mcdougal's programs.

I run an online health/fitness/nutrition coaching program that can be found at www.theveganeffect.com. There you might find your answers.

Exercise programs do not have to be expensive either. I am a master at building fitness plans with the minimal of equipment. If all you have is your body weight than I can build you a 90 day plan. The same goes if all you have is a resistance band, exercise ball, dumbells, kettlebell, etc.

If you need any advice or have specific questions you should check out my website and message me there.

Q: Peace, Dherbs.com. I emailed earlier this year requesting advise on problems I've been having with both my stomach and bladder which are still persisting. Around 5 years ago I noticed that my stomach started to swell until it became fully distended and firm (almost like a round ball). I found this unusual because I have always had a very flat stomach and have always been very active, as well as, tried to maintain a good diet. However after consulting with several western doctors non seems to have a clue as to the cause of the problem. Although during one examination a urologist said he could feel a hard lump just under my right rib cage. I am currently due to have an 'endoscopy' but am running out of options if this procedure does not reveal or identify the problem. Regards my bladder, this problem started between 13-15 years old, I am now 36 years. The main problem is that a majority of the time I am unable to urinate normally. Instead it sometimes takes upto 2-3 mins for the bladder to release anything, even when I'm presse, also even when something does come out it's usually in trickles which stops and starts. There is no pain, but it is very frustrating. Also, I usually need to urinate at least once every hour even if I have not drunk any fluid for a long period of time. This tends to cause a big problem if I am not near a toilet for long periods of time, as I then have to hold myself, which can be very uncomfortable. I won't go on hopefully this info will be sufficient for a diagnosis or an idea as to what the problem may be. Either way, any insight that you may be able to help me with into these two issues will be greatly appreciated.

    A:

We would recommend the Full Body Cleanse and the Female Cleanse. Our Kidney-Bladder-Adrenals can also be helpful in remedying some of ther issues you are experiencing. Once you complete the cleanse, consume this formula to keep with the progress you've made.

Q: My son is on Concerta 36 mg for ADHD. He was on 56 mg, but I asked that it be lowered because it was taking away from his personality. I did something that I said I'd never do and that was let them medicate him. He started running back and forth which he is not aware of. Doctors say this is a tick. I'm not sure what it is. His behavior started to escalate in the 2nd grade. They were calling me up to the school every other day. Funny thing is that when I would go to the school other teachers would congratulate me on my sons National test scores in reading. His behavior eventually landed him in a special needs school. My cousin whom worked in the system advised me not to let them place him there. I felt like my hands were tied. I don't have the income to place him in a private school. How can I wean him off of this Concerta drug? What can I use in it's place because he is active, and impulsive at times. I came upon this site from the Micheal Baisden site. I put ADHD in your search window and was blown away by what you said. Wow!

    A:

Glad you found Dherbs.Com! Start giving him ACTIVATED CHARCOAL (mixed well in water). Read our article on â€BENEFITS OF CARBON A/K/A ACTIVATED CHARCOAL†! Carbon will remove the drug from his body. Give him NERVES TEA (2-3 times per day)!!!! You can sweeten it with maple syrup or agave nectar. Nothing's wrong with the child! Something's wrong with the System (school system)! Period!

Q: I am so impressed with your website and the level of great information you provide. The product list is very impressive as well. I have High Blood Pressure and have been on medication for a little over five years. I am 5'8" tall 167lbs. I'm in pretty good shape. I don't understand why I have HBP. I know I want to be off the meds. I feel really tired when I try to exercise. (I mean really tired) I notice there is constant congestion and post nasal drip. I'm usually going to the bathroom to urinate 4 or 5 times every night. So, I want to accomplish a couple of things. 1. I want my energy level back so that I can get back into the gym build my body again. 2. I want to get off these meds. I've been thinking about doing the FULL BODY DETOX but I read where some people were having real pain. I'm concerned that if the pain is too bad my blood pressure will go up.

    A:

Thank you, Beloved! Glad you like the website! I would recommend that you first perform the FULL BODY DETOX (FBD). Drink ginseng tea too while detoxing! Consult with our "HERBAL CHART" for products to take for any diseases you may be dealing with. Again, begin the FBD right away to reclaim your health. The meds are only killing you slowly but surely. You can heal, Beloved!

Q: I am writing for advice about a brain tumor. My daughter, 14, was diagnosed two weeks ago with a grade II brain tumor (fibrillary astrocytoma). A neurosurgeon placed a "shunt" in her head a week ago. Speaking with a number of physicians in Atlanta that specialize in pediatric neurology, it seems our options are limited, and we've been directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN, for a 6 week treatment of radiation and chemotherapy (tarceva). We know there are risks, but we seem to have no other choice in the conventional medicine arena. Here are my questions. What holistic approach could we take? The tumor is the size of an orange and is growing around her brain like a vine on a bush. It is also bithalamic, that is, covering both her left and right thalamus. She is an honor student, but we are seeing signs of some erosion i.e. she takes frequent naps, does not seem to know when to take herself to the restroom, and is running fevers. The doctors have her on steroids to help with the swelling of her three recent operations as well as something else. My preference is to try to the holistic approach first, but we don't have a lot of time. What are the time-frames associated with your treatment? I know something of this nature will take some time to take effect. I should mention that the prognosis is not very promising.

    A:

Don't worry about time, just take a natural course. Chemo and radiation will do the poor child in. This would poison her. But this is you guy's choice here! I would give the child BRAIN TUNER TEA daily (2 cups daily) and DETOX TEA nightly. Stop feeding the tumor by giving the child bad food, i.e. meat, eggs, dairy products, refined grains and starches, etc.
