7 Ways To Get Meat-Eaters To Love Plants

Whether you’re on a Paleo, vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, slow-carb, low-carb or Mediterranean diet, every single healthy nutritional protocol on the planet shares one common theme: getting more whole, plant-based foods into your diet is a good thing for your health and the planet.

But how can I get my meat-loving (insert: self, friends, family) to accept this idea?

The truth is that cooking with plants is easy, creative, delicious and nutritious. And yet embracing a more plant-centric approach to the plate continues to unnecessarily repel all too many, including even some of the most experienced chefs.

I admit that presenting plant-based options to the more carnivorously inclined can indeed be tricky. But with a bit of grace, style and compassion, it can be done.

Here are seven tips I’ve learned along the way to help you accomplish the mission.

1. Start with a green juice.

If you don’t know where to begin, get your green juice on. A clean, light green juice comprised of spinach, kale and pineapple will kick start the meal on a healthy trajectory and begin to improve the gut ecology. It can be as simple as a cucumber juice or perhaps some kale with pineapple.

2. Be the chef.

You don’t need to be a gourmet chef, but taking the time to master a few simple whole food, plant-based recipes will transform your life and everyone around you. Worry less about the meat on the plate and focus on ensuring that every meal each day abounds with a variety of simple produce-based dishes. Let, fresh, tasty, beautiful and loving be your mantra!

3. Prepare a few tasty appetizers to break the ice.

It’s important to start off strong. Seize the opportunity to shine. By picking one amazing plant-based appetizer that is creative, easy, and delicious. This will reassure your meat eating guests that they are in for more than sucking on a blade of grass.

Kitchen challenged? Try a simple plate of fresh organic dates! My vegan “untuna” wraps are also a tasty option.

4. Lead the way.

Share your experiences — whether it’s a tale of life transformation and healing or simply your love for kale — honestly and openly. But only when asked. No one likes a preachy sermon about the perfect diet (which, by the way, is an illusion). The best approach is always to simply be a healthy living example. Truth does not defend — it simply is.

5. Release your attachment to outcome.

Release the need for your company to actually like the food you’ve prepared. Instead, shift your focus on the process. Remember: you simply can’t control their reaction to the food, only your intention, effort and love in the preparation. Sincerely give it all you’ve got — then let it go.

6. Make it pretty.

Presentation, presentation, presentation. This is a powerful tool for even the simplest recipes. Remember that we eat with more than our mouths; food involves all our senses. So take advantage of the visual sense and support your food creation with attention to detail. A beautiful garnish of flower or herb will always make a dish taste much better.

7. Serve from the heart.

Dating back to sacred, ancient Vedic teachings, the preparation and serving of food is one of the greatest acts one can engage in. Feel the meaning of this in your heart and serve with the greatest presence and awareness and love you can fathom.

    Here are some other tips to get started.

    1: Join a raw food meetup group or community. Surround yourself with supportive people who can point you in the right direction. Try meetup.org or 30bananasaday.com 

    2: Read books like "beauty detox solution" by snyder, "80/10/10" by Dr. Graham., or "The Paradigm diet" by Adam Dave

    3: Start simple with breakfast. Always start your day with a green smoothie. read "Green smoothie revolution" by forget authors name at the moment. heh.

    A sample meal plan would be.

    Breakfast: Green smoothie

    Bridge: raw bar, handful of nuts or seeds, or fruit

    Lunch: Raw wraps made from collard greens. use a base of tahini, hummus, or nut butter. Fill with sprouts and colorful veggies

    Bridge: raw bar, handful nuts or seeds, or fruit

    Dinner: Raw pasta with a large salad

    Snack: Sorbet

    Q: I was online searching for some natural treatments for hair growth in Black Men when I came across your article. I must say that I believe it was so on point that I decided not to look any further. I'm 44 years of age and started noticing my hair thinning when about 12 years ago. I was one of those that you wrote about in your article chasing a lifestyle that is no longer an interest to me. Is there a mild remedy that can work with me to stimulate the re-growth of my hair in the spots where it is balding in that classic balding pattern? I am generally very healthy when I doing right and even now rarely get sick. But my sickness manifest in stress and bad habits to num the pain of having to live this way when don't really want to.     Q: I just completed the Full Body Cleanse about two weeks ago and started the Pancreas Formula for my pancreas...     Q: I am interested in starting the Full Body Detox program. At this time, I would like to know which program is best for me. At current, I have started removing things from my diet as of 2 weeks ago (pork, chicken, red meat, I'm trying with the fish but it's hard!) I am not eating cheese but I still eat yogurt and every now and then I will eat a boiled egg (egg whites).     Q: How often should one eat cook food? I'm a vegan, I do not consume any meat, seafood, milk what so ever. I eat water cresses like everyday so as cook food.     Q: I am totally overwhelmed by the whole food combination thing. What is a simple way to remember and adjust to what goes with what?

    Search "Food Combining Chart" on a search engine and you can obtain more detailed information on how to properly food combine.

    Remember, improper food combination can bog down the digestive system for hours, leaving food there to ferment which creates extra toxins in your system.

    Good digestion can be a speedy 3 – 4 hour process which leaves surplus digestive juices available for detoxifying the body, not adding toxins to it.

    Q: I have a question for you. I love reading your articles and I was reading about the importance of iodine in a vegan diet. I am vegan and I'm scared I'm getting iodine and you wrote that seaweed would fulfill that need. Did you mean Sushi seaweed, the roasted nori kind? Or fresh seaweed? I haven't been able to find fresh seaweed anywhere, except for already prepared seaweed salad. Also, how would you suggest I use the roasted nori seaweed? In smoothies? Because by itself it does not taste good.

    Q: First let me just say that I love this site. It has given my goddesses and I true alternative. For some reason during this season we have been experiencing the announance of staph infections. The MD doctors have no clue or not clear in explaining how a person even contracts this infection but I know that it has to be food related. The body is perfect until it is contaminated by the foods we eat. At present I have a painful byte that I know is probably now a staph infection. It has swollen and turned red around the affected are. Is there any product that you have available that can assist me with this?     Q: I have had bacterial vaginosis for about 2 years now. My symptoms are not bad, as I only feel a little bit of itching and burning every now and then. But I do have a lot of discharge, which generally actually does not smell foul. The reason is gardnerella. I have tried all kinds of treatments from antibiotics, boric acid, homeopathy and magnetism, but nothing has helped so far. I've been a vegetarian for almost ten years now, although I do eat fish from time to time. I avoid breads, dairy products, eggs and seafood. However, I've been really busy lately and in a lot of stress, so I have been paying less attention to what I eat. I do prefer pretty comfortable clothing though. As far as treatment goes, I am not interested in daily baths or douches (have tried this as well based on a homeopath's recommendation) or anything like that, as I simply don't have the time or the conditions for it. I currently live in a Third World Country. What can and should I do? I am thinking more of supplements etc. I hope you can give me some advice

    Q: My question is about hair loss. I am a 45 year old African American female. I started losing my hair about 15 years ago. I specifically remember unusual symptoms before it started to fall out. First, my entire scalp had a burning sensation, and it was very tender to the touch. It was very difficult to brush, comb and wash. Then after that, I am not sure how much longer after, but a dry patch of skin developed toward the back of my head (approximately 1 inch in diameter). I was able to peel it off and pull it through the strains of hair (very weird). That happened a couple of times and not too long after that, my hair started to fall out in large amounts for a fairly long period of time. At the moment I would say that I am mostly bald with hair mostly around the edges. Also I would like to mention that hair started to grow on my chest BUT I started to lose hair in my vaginal area. Sorry if some of this sounds sketchy but it's been 15 years!! I will try to give you a little bit of my history. I am 5'8" and 135lbs. I would say that for the most part, I have been an athlete all my life. My menses were very irregular sometimes and/or absent for long periods of time. When my menses were present, I had very bad cramps and clotting. My menses are now very regular and I hardly have any cramps, my flow is light and very little clotting. I would have to say that it is now a pleasure to have my "period". This also might be a result from switching my diet to a vegetarian diet. I have been a vegetarian for about 16 years. I would say 20% is dairy, but after reading your articles, I am trying my best to become vegan, hopefully even a raw foodist. I also eat tofu. I have never had hair problems growing up. I did get relaxers, but only twice a year. I have had my appendix removed when I was in elementary school. My bowel movements are usually once a day. (I know it needs to be 3.) So anyway, I have been to a couple of medical doctors to no avail, so now I am coming to you. I just received the following products from your company today (10-06-08).
