The San Francisco Chronicle recently reported on the “sprouting revival,” attracting more general attention to the many benefits of sprouts, which can tout up to 100 times more enzymes than raw counterparts. While protein and fiber content can’t increase, the quality of these elements can — and do — with sprouting. It’s no wonder that people are catching wind of this new superfood!

Make Your Own Homemade Sprouts
With this widespread interest comes a dearth of your favorite sprouts on your health food shelves. There’s no time like the present to start making your own.
Why sprout at home? For one, you can control everything. While the notion that sprouts are safer coming from home, bear in mind that home sprouting may not stave off all contamination issues. That being said, you do bring yourself closer to safe sprouts, and that’s a good thing.
Another great reason to sprout at home is expense. When you purchase your organic beans in bulk, you can make a seemingly endless amount of sprouts for your favorite recipes. Like windowsill herbs, sprouts will keep on giving if you let them.
