Diabetes

Diabetes

Diabetes (diabetes mellitus) is a condition of excessive blood sugar. It affects people of all ages.

There are three types of diabetes:

  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes, and
  • Gestational diabetes

Type 1 diabetes includes individuals dependent upon insulin to prevent ketosis (abnormal accumulation of ketones in the body as a result of a deficiency or inadequate utilization of carbohydrates). A keytone is an organic compound having the group -OH- linked to two hydrocarbon radicals. It is also known as the insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) subclass and was previously called juvenile-onset diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes deals with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).

Gestational diabetes is unique to pregnant women who experience high blood sugar but do not have a history of diabetes. Often gestational diabetes will subside after the baby is born.

Causes and Risk Factors

The pancreas secretes insulin into the bloodstream to regulate the level of sugar in the blood and also converts sugar into heat and energy.

Diabetes is caused the body’s inability to properly use insulin, a naturally occurring hormone secreted by the pancreas in response to blood glucose (sugar). It can be caused by too little insulin secreted into the blood stream, or a resistance to insulin.

Diabetes can be caused by:

  • Poor diet
  • Virus affecting the pancreas
  • Genetics

Symptoms

Symptoms of diabetes are:

  • Excessive thirst
  • Excessive urination
  • Blurry vision
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Persistent hunger
  • Rapid weight loss

Natural Healing Options

There are natural healing options for people with diabetes.

Active lifestyle

Increased obesity rates have brought increased Type 2 diabetes diagnoses. To prevent Type 2 diabetes, get plenty of exercise-enough to maintain a healthy body weight.

Herbs

The best diabetic herb, which would also have to be the best pancreatic herb, is Devil’s Club. This unique herb is a pancreas tonic and blood sugar regulator.

The next best herb for diabetes would have to be Gymnema sylvestre. This Ayurvedic or Indian herb literally means destroyer of sugar and prevents sugar molecules in the colon from being absorbed into the bloodstream.

Karela or Moringa seed provides serious nutrition to the pancreas.

Atractylodis, though very foul in smell, is excellent for diabetes. It helps improve pancreas function.

Licorice root is a great glandular and hormonal herb and will help to normalize the blood sugar levels.

Fenugreek seed will greatly help to dissolve hardened mucus in the pancreas area.

Goldenseal root, Fringetree bark, and Elecampane are pivotal herbs for healing diabetes as they provide bio insulin, which is very important. In addition, they are very cleansing to the pancreas and other auxiliary organs (liver, spleen, appendix, etc.).

Guava leaf is a great pancreas tonic and blood sugar regulator.

Bilberry or Blueberry is so invaluable in the healing process of diabetes because it is the best herb available for ocular (eye) health and can improve eyesight.

Cinnamon, Ginger, and Cayenne are imperative for diabetes because these three herbs in tandem or unison are helpful for circulatory issues.

Juniper berries and Uva Ursi are diuretic herbs and promote passing of water or fluid (urination) and prevents the need for dialysis as they promote cleansing of the blood in the kidneys.

Stevia is great for diabetics as it can be consumed to normalize blood sugar levels and also to help eradicate the craving of sugar.

Cerasee promotes cleansing of the pancreas and blood and therefore excellent for healing diabetes.

Lycii (Wolf) berry is very revitalizing for the pancreas and stimulates the pancreas. It also revitalizes and invigorates the blood.

Dietary Intervention

Eating healthy is the best way to prevent Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes diagnoses are skyrocketing largely due to the increased rates of obesity among adults, teens and even children.

It’s recommended that people with diabetes consume a special diet that’s rich in fruits and vegetables and completely sugar free. Many nutritionists suggest no more than1,600 calories a day (including no more than 220g of carbs a day).

Green beans (aka string beans) are helpful to diabetics. They provide natural insulin and have healing constituents for the pancreas. Green (string) bean juice (2-4 ounces) daily will greatly help to speed up healing of diabetes. Brussels sprouts rank next to green beans for healing of diabetes. Blend string bean juice and Brussels sprouts together in a vegetable cocktail and drank daily or every other day.
