Gearing up for an Independence Day celebration? Kick your regular hummus recipe up a notch with this Firecracker Hummus. With the addition of everyone’s favorite hot sauce, sriracha, it’s sure to spark your taste buds.

This recipe is also super simple, so it won’t keep you from your party.

 

Perfect Fourth of July Snack: Firecracker Hummus

 

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 1 15-ounce can organic chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 2 large cloves garlic, crushed with the flat side of a chef’s knife
  • 2 Tbsp. tahini
  • 2 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 Tbsp. gluten-free, vegan Sriracha sauce, plus more for garnish
  • Chopped tomatoes, cilantro and scallions for garnish

Directions

Add the crushed garlic and the chickpeas to the bowl of a food processor, and pulse until roughly chopped.

Add the tahini, olive oil, water, cumin, sea salt and sriracha, and process until smooth, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Add more water, one Tbsp. at a time, if a thinner texture is desired. Adjust seasonings to taste.

Move hummus to a serving bowl and garnish with chopped tomatoes, cilantro and scallions, as well as more sriracha if desired. Serve with fresh vegetables and whole grain pita chips.

    Q: Is sea salt and warm water a good natural laxative? If so how often do you recommend the use of sea salt for elimination? I was reading The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs and it gives this recommendation, along with drinking lemon water mixed with organic syrup and cayenne pepper. Is it safe to give myself an enema 2xs per day using a hot water bottle filled with fresh squeezed organic lemon and distilled water? Asking this because Bzod had me to listen to 88.3 today here in Cincinnati and the guy (Mike) was telling how he does this regularly and has great results.

    Yes, sea salt in water is a mild laxative!

    You can do it as often as you FEEL the need to drink or take it. 

    You can also consume the Master Cleanse (cayenne, maple syrup, lemon juice) if you choose. You can drink this as much as you like depending on how you feel.

    And yes, you can perform enemas 2X a day! Enemas are very helpful for health!

    Q: I wrote to you a couple weeks ago asking if it was normal for me to have an outbreak only a day or two into the full body cleanse kit. You wrote back and told me that an outbreak is the body healing. It is two weeks later and I am still having an outbreak! Is this a good sign? Do you think this outbreak may continue on through my anti viral kit?     The outbreak is a result of your body trying to eliminate the toxicity and impurities from your body. Continue to follow the guidelines of the Cleanse.

    In regards to what you ate, YES, they make the cleanse less effective, so you may not want to eat much of cooked foods. Raw foods will optimize the cleanse. If you are having trouble staying full, try more healthy fats, like avocado, coconut cream, or raw nuts and seeds.

    Q: Dasani water, if I remember correctly, was banned from the U.K. It contains salt as well as potassium chloride. Essentia contains calcium chloride, as well as sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulfate, dipotassium phosphate. Are all the ingredients in Essentia safe? One would have do an independent test on the water. Dasani is crap and I no longer drink Essentia but it would be my brand of choice of bottled water if I was to purchase water again.

    Q: How often should one eat cook food? I'm a vegan, I do not consume any meat, seafood, milk what so ever. I eat water cresses like everyday so as cook food. Like white rice with black bean sauce, spinach, and pasta at time's I'll eat some Chinese fried rice, veggie roll, steamed vegetables, any advice?

    You can eat cooked food as much as you like. However, try to incorporate as many nutrient-dense raw foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, raw nuts and seeds, into your diet to make sure you are receiving an adequate amount of nutrients.

    Q: I noticed the CARDIO-VASCULAR FORMULA contains garlic. My partner would like to participate in the detox program with me, but she has allergies to garlic that make her very sick. Her allergist told her that dried herbs have less of an effect because of the processing.     Q: I love to drink water, but I like to drink hot water you know boiling water slightly cooled. Is there a benefit, or disadvantage to this compared to drinking room temperature water? Secondly, the water I drink is boiled water. Alkaline water is not a privilege most Kenyans have. If 56% of the population is living below poverty line you do the math. So the water I drink is tap water, that I boil to make it safe for drinking. When I get to work I have Alkaline water as my work place provides me with that provision.     Q: I was wondering if it is okay to mix Mrs. Dash season blend with Olive Oil as a dressing for my salad? It tastes real bad with just Olive Oil alone, and I don't like the bitterness taste of lemon juice, and apple vinegar cider.     Q: I've been a vegan for 2 years now. I've done the FBD 3 times in these two years, but my urine is still yellow. The only time it is clear is immediately after I drink water (reverse osmosis water). If I miss a day of drinking water, my urine goes back to being dark yellow. Does this mean that my body is still very toxic? Also, is it normal to release urine 5 to 15 minutes after drinking liquids? I would think that water would need to stay in the body for awhile for proper hydration and cleansing.

    From what you wrote I would suggest you start drinking alkaline water (purchase an alkaline water machine, you can find various brands in our e-book "Alternative Diet and Lifestyle Manual"). If you are urinating within 10-15 minutes of drinking water you are not absorbing the water, and thus you require micro-clustered water which an alkaline (and ionizing) water machine does.     Walnuts are good to eat during the Full Body Cleanse. Distilled water is the best water during the Full Body Cleanse, but your filtered water would also be okay to drink during the cleanse.

    You should do the salt water gargle as well as the fenugreek tea but the problem stems from diet (especially refined grains). Go more fruits and vegetables in his diet! Make sure he chews his food well too! Give all of this a try!

I am concern because I have about read on some other blog about a doctor that cure cancer using pepper and garlic (credits to KELLY EIDEM). So, I have been eating raw hot pepper and garlic.     Eating hot peppers has its benefits but excess consumption may eventually cause harm. It boils down to how often and how much of them you are eating. Organic doesn't make a thing necessarily good to eat. Organic peanut butter is better than regular or inorganic peanut butter but peanut butter is peanut butter and thus hard on the digestive process.

    Q: Hello, this is my 2nd time doing the full body cleanse. I did it last year so now I'm doing it again. I started on Monday 3/9 and since have lost 5 lbs. Is that normal? Also why do you recommend Distilled water and not Spring and/or filtered (Brita). I have always drank a lot of water but roughly how many times a day should I urinate and how many times a day should I make a BM? When I did it the first time last year it was late Spring early Summer and incorporated a lot of walking which helped out a lot. This time not so much due to the horrible NY weather.     A: Everyone's body is different and responds to the regimen differently. Losing 5 pounds in days is okay. Distilled water is the best type of water that helps to detox the body. You should be drinking half your body weight in water. Anything you put into your body you can expect it to come out. Bowel movements and urination is directly related to the foods and beverages you're consuming. Be sure that you're consuming three regular meals a day; eating fruits and vegetables with fiber.
