Healthy Vegan Dip Options

Deciding to remove or limit processed foods is one of the best choices anyone can make to clean up their diet in a quick and efficient way. It’s also interesting to note that a large part of processed foods in the Standard American Diet (SAD) contain animal products, unhealthy oils, and a variety of additives and chemicals. Just removing foods with these ingredients alone is enough to turn a person’s health around. Still, we’re all human, so what do you do when you get to craving a condiment, dressing, or another topping in your food that you know isn’t good for you, but you just can’t help yourself? Whipped cream, creamy dressings, dips, and a few others may come to mind. The simple way to satisfy these cravings isn’t to try to ignore them, but to simply replace them with better options. Luckily, that’s really simple to do with some healthy, plant-based foods.

Let’s take a look at some of the easiest ways to replace unhealthy dressings and condiments with clean, and yes—totally vegan—options!

1. Swap out Cheese Dip With Nooch Dip

Nutritional yeast tastes just like cheddar cheese and though it’s in a flake form, it can easily be combined with mild, creamy, yet tasteless, blended cashews or even hemp seeds to make a cheesy dip that’s just delicious. Blend 1/4 cup of nutritional yeast with 1/4 cup soaked cashews (or 1/4 raw hemp seeds) for an instantly cheesy spread that will nix those cravings fast! Dip raw veggies in this yummy dip or use it as a natural salad dressing, your choice!

2. Swap Dairy Ranch With Tahini Ranch

Tahini is truly a food to love; consider it almost impossible to use this dip and not be satisfied. Tahini is rich in calcium and protein so it’s satisfying and filling and also lowers your blood pressure. Flavor-wise, it’s packed with a creamy, fatty texture with no animal-based saturated fats and can be blended with anything savory to make a tasty dip or dressing. Blend 1/2 cup raw tahini (which is milder than roasted and more nutritious) with 1/2 a garlic clove, the juice from one lemon, 1/2 tsp. dried parsley, 1/4 tsp. black pepper, 1/8 tsp. pink or another sea salt, and 1/16th. teaspoon (a dash) of onion powder. If you want your dressing thinner which will also lower the calories, you can add 2 tbsp. water to the blend too. Use this on salads or anywhere else you like to use ranch dressing.

3. Swap French Onion Dip With Cashew Garlic Onion Dip

Once again, it’s easy to use cashews to replace your favorite dips. They’re fatty, satisfying, rich in iron and magnesium to support your energy levels, and they’re also mild in flavor so you can add whatever ingredients to you want to them to get the desired results. Blend 1/2 cup soaked raw cashews with 1 tsp. onion powder, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder or 1/2 a garlic clove, black pepper and pink or sea salt to taste, and 1/2 a full drop of liquid stevia. Normal French onion dip is packed with dairy, unhealthy sugars, and maltodextrin (which is an additive normally made with GMO corn to add sweetness and fill out the product), unhealthy gums, and tons of refined salt. Skip all that and make this better version instead!

4. Swap Fake and Dairy-Based Whipped Topping With Coconut Whipped Cream

Many whipped toppings are actually vegan. What they’re not, however, is healthy. Would you like some high-fructose corn syrup, vegetable oil, mono-diglycerides (processed, chemical-based additives), and other nasty stabilizers with your desserts? We didn’t think so—that’s not food, that’s chemicals. Instead, make a natural, simple whipped topping in literally seconds at home.

All you need to do is keep a couple of cans of full fat coconut milk in your fridge (the more processed kind in the cartons don’t work). Then, they’re ready to go anytime you want whipped cream. To make the whipped cream, just open the can and scoop out the fatty cream that’s on top. You can discard the liquid or reserve it for smoothies since it has a sweet coconut flavor. To make the cream, blend the coconut cream (totally cholesterol and chemical-free) in your blender and whip until smooth (or you can use a hand-mixer. If you use the blender, leave the small attachment in the lid off so there is a hole in the lid as you blend. That will incorporate air which whips the cream. So easy, so delicious, and totally natural. To make your cream sweetener, just add a dash of alcohol-free liquid sweetener to your cream as it’s blending for no sugar whatsoever.

5. Swap Thousand Island Dressing for a Sun-Dried Tomato Creamy Garlic Dressing

This dip is a favorite among many, and it’s largely just ranch dressing or mayo blended with oils and ketchup plus a few extra spices (which is how many people make it at home.) This is so simple to make vegan and healthier too. All you do is blend either 1/2 cup raw cashews or 1/2 cup tahini with 5-6 soaked sun-dried tomatoes, 2-3 drops liquid stevia or a date, a touch of garlic powder or 1 garlic clove, and some black pepper. If you’d like it more tomato-based, feel free to add more sun-dried tomatoes which pack in tons of flavor, or even 1 tsp. tomato paste. There are many vegan thousand island dressings out there, but many contain soy-based oils or cheaper ingredients. Make your own at home for more satisfaction, and certainly a better flavor.

There are many more ways to veganize your meals by simply using hot sauce, mustard, tamari, Bragg’s amino acid flavoring, coconut amino acids, apple cider vinegar or coconut vinegar, salsa (not salsa con queso), and nutritional yeast. All of these are vegan, contain minimal ingredients, are oil-free, and can be used alone or combined to make delicious toppings and dressings of all kind.

So now, you tell us … how have you made a favorite dressing or condiment of yours vegan and healthier?

It tastes real bad with just Olive Oil alone, and I don't like the bitterness taste of lemon juice, and apple vinegar cider. Plus, what would you recommend for toppings to make the salad more interesting? Can I put olives, and cucumbers, etc.?

Do as you please as far as dressing goes! Just stay away from harmful ingredients! Mrs. Dash, seasonings, Olive Oil,

Q: I see also that you recommend a complete diet with these programs. I am guessing its a vegan diet right? I wanted to ask something on that is coconut milk and coconut oils ok for that? I personally had a very hard time trying to eat that many vegetables and many ph balance vegans seem to think fruits aren?t good either. I eat that many vegetables one it tears me up the next day and two I just cant consume enough calories that way. I can try and make up for it by eating things like almonds but I eat to many almonds I get the same problem the next day. Now coconut milk (unsweetened) and a digestive enzyme works for me for picking up extra calories.... but I hear very conflicting information about coconut and its saturated fat content. Is it ok to use daily as a part of the diet for cleansing? And your oxy-drops are those the same as the drop for ph balancing water?? Or is it something different? I am wanting to start lifting weights as I need to put on some muscle and I?m wondering if its something that would be beneficial in combating muscle soreness by increased oxygen in the body.

    A:

The diet we recommend is vegan-based, and RAW FOODS. Fresh fruits, vegetables, raw nuts and seeds are ideal.

Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil are excellent products to have in your diet. The healthy fats will keep you fuller.

Oxy-Drops can help balance your electrolytes that need to be replenished after a workout in order to keep your body performing efficiently.

Q: I just ordered the FULL BODY DETOX and I know there's a dietary regimen that I will have to follow. I was wondering if you would approve of a protein shake that consist of (raw hemp protein powder, raw almond butter, sea salt, flax seed, 100% young coconut water & meat inside the coconut, raw carob powder,) (optional soy or rice milk or soy or rice cream)

    A:

Doesn't sound like it will mess up your FULL BODY DETOX. Go for it! But leave out the rice/soy cream! The rice milk is okay (but it is processed/cooked)!

Q: What kind of dressing I can use on my salad. I tried the olive oil, lemon juice and sea salt salad dressing and I didn't like it at all. Please help this is day 3 for me. Thanks

A: We have numerous raw salad dressing recipes available on our recipe section. The salad dressing you tried, might be better with apple cider vinegar instead of lemon juice in addition to adding the sea salt and herbs & spices of your choice.

Q: What Are Some Natural Sweet Treats (Junk Foods) I can Consume? Under free will you can consume what you like, but healthier products are best. You will find plenty of "healthier" snack, treat, and junk foods at good health food stores such as Whole Foods Market, PCC Natural Food Stores, Erewhon, Trader Joes, Natural Grocers, New Frontiers, etc. Just make sure to abstain from salt, sugar, and other harmful chemicals in the products you buy. Q: I'm on my 9th day of the FULL BODY DETOX which I am performing to heal from genital herpes. I am also am suffering from a yeast infection at the moment. I know that under your â€CANDIDA ALBICANS: YEAST INFECTION†article you suggested to do the full body detox. My question is will performing only the full body detox kit wipe away the yeast infection or do I HAVE TO TAKE EXTRA HERBS ON THE SIDE TO TAKE OF THAT problem including the genital herpes problem? During the FULL BODY DETOX you said lemon juice and sea salt for salad dressings but by any chance is regular dressing such as Italian, ranch or blue cheese or even hot sauce ok to eat the salads with? Are we able to eat crouton with our salads while performing the FULL BODY DETOX and anti-viral?

    A:

After the FULL BODY DETOX, please perform the 10-DAY SUPREME CANDIDA CLEANSE. No commercial brand salad dressings (unless you use Anne's, Follow Your Heart, etc. available from Whole Foods Market). No croutons. Please read the article â€WHAT IS RAW FOODS†because if you know what raw foods are, many questions will automatically be answered on your own (not that it's a problem, simply for your edification).

Q: I'm doing the Full Body Cleanse and I have a few questions about it: I get tired of drinking just the distilled water and I'd like to drink the herbal teas, but I don't like it by itself. Would it mess things up to add a pack or two of Splenda to my tea or maybe honey? I can't stand the salads with the olive oil or apple cider vinegar or the lemon juice as dressing and it makes me gag. I have To have some sort of salad dressing. What kind would be suitable? Do I look for sugar-free? Or organic and natural? I found one that is organic and natural, but it has 3 grams of sugar in it. Without eating all my whole grained breads and other fiber, I haven't had much of a bowel movement in 3 days, should I wait a while yet? (I had surgery on my bowels and always had to take fiber tablets and eat lots of grains to get my bowels to move.) I haven't done the enemas yet, (low on money) should I try that? Or should I resume my fiber tablets I normally take? Any type of fiber I could add to my fruit smoothies in the morning? I want to also do the female cleanse. Is it ok to do that immediately after I finish the full body cleanse or should I wait for a little while? Thank you for all your help, I feel much better than I did before and I just started this detox a week ago, lost 10 pounds, too, woohoooooo! Thank you

    A:

    1. Instead of splenda, use agave, stevia, or grade b maple syrup as a sweetener.

    2. In re Salad Dressing, an organic and natural one is great. You can also check our website for salad dressing recipes.

    3. The fiber pills are not part of the cleanse, so we wouldn't advise those. Fruit is you best choice of fiber so look into eating more papaya, mango, figs, etc. And yes, colonics (and enemas) would greatly help you - undoubtedly!

    4. You can do the Female Cleanse right after you finish detoxing. There's no need to wait!

Q: Hi there, I never got yeast infections before but I had my first one in March of this year (2015) and have been suffering ever since. I was first treated with fluconazole and the infection went a way for a few weeks and then came back to which I was treated with another dose... again, it came back. I was treated with one more dose of the fluconazole- 3 pills every other day, I'm not sure the strength.... and of course, it came back. I went back to the doc and said I wanted to try a different solution as this wasn't working. They sent my culture into the lab to test for a different strand of candida but it came back just a strong strand of candida albicans. I was sent home with a cream and told to try boric acid suppositories or get put on a weekly prescription of the fluconazole. I don't want to rely on perscription meds that seem to make it only come back stronger. If you have any advice, please please please help me I am so desperate. I have been taking probiotics, using coconut oil for relief and cutting out all sugar. Any help would be so much appreciated. Best, Rokki

    A:

We always recommend starting off with the Full Body Cleanse to help eliminate the toxins and waste that often contributes to recurring issues in the body. You should move on to the 10 Day Candida Cleanse to specifically address the candida presence in your body. After cleansing you should avoid consuming a lot of sugar, dairy and processed foods. You can also continue to take the Candida Normalizer as a maintenance.

We also recommend reading our article entitled Candida Albicans: Yeast Infection.http://www.dherbs.com/articles/candida-yeast-infection-144.html

Q: What's the best way to start on a vegan/raw food diet? I am not sure what to eat to make sure I would get a nutritious diet-you may not be able to go into that much detail but how can I get sample meal plans for breakfast, lunch and dinner incorporating this type of diet-perhaps there is somewhere on the web I find something like this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    A:

If I do say myself, the best way to start a raw food diet is to be coached by me. I run a 6 month health coaching program that is 60-90 percent raw and 100 percent vegan/gluten free/ allergy free. You can find out more about my program at www.theveganeffect.com. I am running a special of half off my program if you sign up before march 1st.

Here are some other tips to get started.

1: Join a raw food meetup group or community. Surround yourself with supportive people who can point you in the right direction. Try meetup.org or 30bananasaday.com

2: Read books like "beauty detox solution" by snyder, "80/10/10" by Dr. Graham., or "The Paradigm diet" by Adam Dave

3: Start simple with breakfast. Always start your day with a green smoothie. read "Green smoothie revolution" by forget authors name at the moment. heh.

A sample meal plan would be.

    Breakfast: Green smoothie

Bridge: raw bar, handful of nuts or seeds, or fruit

Lunch: Raw wraps made from collard greens. use a base of tahini, hummus, or nut butter. Fill with sprouts and colorful veggies

Bridge: raw bar, handful nuts or seeds, or fruit

Dinner: Raw pasta with a large salad

    Snack: Sorbet

    Hope that answers your question,

Q: I noticed the CARDIO-VASCULAR FORMULA contains garlic. My partner would like to participate in the detox program with me, but she has allergies to garlic that make her very sick. Her allergist told her that dried herbs have less of an effect because of the processing. Do you think it would be safe to take, considering this is the only compound in the program that contains garlic? I assume it is a small amount and may not have a negative impact.

    A:

THE FORMULA IS BALANCED WITH OTHER HERBS AND IS NOT EXCLUSIVELY GARLIC, WHICH SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM. SHE'LL BE FINE!

Q: I have a question for you. Do you have or recommend an herbal cellulite cream that can be used as a body wraps to lose inches? There are so many products on the market and no one knows if they truly work or not. Is there an herbal body cream that I could use to shrink the fat cells in my stomach area? I have done a body detox and have been dieting for the past year. Hope you can help me to find the perfect herbal body cream that will help me.

    A:

Cellulite doesn't come from a crème so it can't be healed with a crème. Cellulite is the result of diet and lifestyle so you have to make the necessary changes to your diet and lifestyle. Period! You're dealing with the Law of Cause and Effect here. The cause of cellulite is poor eating and lifestyle habits and the effect of poor dieting and lifestyle is disease, i.e. cellulite. I suggest you keep on detoxing! These wraps only work minimally, but it's cutting corners because even after having them performed you are still toxic inside - a walking time bomb!

Q: I started the full body detox today, and found that I DO NOT like the salad dressing I made with the olive oil, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. I found I could not tolerate it on my salad. What can I do instead? Another question is... I noticed lentils on the food combining chart. Those have to be cooked. Are those actually allowed to be consumed warm? I love the raw fruits and vegetables. I don?t have a problem, cause I love salads. I just need help on what I can have on it.

    A:

Check out our website for raw salad dressing recipes. You are bound to find one you like.

As for lentils, you are NOT allowed to have them while on the cleanse.

Q: I wrote to you a couple weeks ago asking if it was normal for me to have an outbreak only a day or two into the full body cleanse kit. You wrote back and told me that an outbreak is the body healing. It is two weeks later and I am still having an outbreak! Is this a good sign? Do you think this outbreak may continue on through my anti viral kit? I have been eating mostly fruits and vegetables, however I felt like I needed more substance and I was not enjoying my food at all... so I bought organic noodles and organic tomato sauce (sea salt only, tomatoes, no sugar, you get the point). Is adding some of this into my diet going to make the kits less effective or possibly not work?

    A:

The outbreak is a result of your body trying to eliminate the toxicity and impurities from your body. Continue to follow the guidelines of the Cleanse.

In regards to what you ate, YES, they make the cleanse less effective, so you may not want to eat much of cooked foods. Raw foods will optimize the cleanse. If you are having trouble staying full, try more healthy fats, like avocado, coconut cream, or raw nuts and seeds.

Q: I am a 49 yr. old black female. When I was younger I had severe cystic acne that left me with what the dermatologist calls "ice pick scaring" and enlarged pores. I had 2 full face dermabrasions in my 30s and have been on retina A from then up until now. I have a pretty healthy diet and exercise routine. My Father and a couple of Uncles of mine also had the same type of skin problems, left with the same aftermath. I use French green clay masks which slightly reduce the look of the large pores and a sugar, honey, and lemon scrub (I make it at home) and I use it on my face. I'm not unattractive, but my skin looks rough and dull and pitted on my cheeks and nose. All the doctors talk about scar revision (cutting),laser treatments, chemical peels, and all sorts of invasive surgeries. I don't want to go that route again and I feel bad about the way I look sometimes. Are there ANY suggestions that you can give that will help me?

Q: I've made a lifestyle change about 8 months ago. I excluded all dairy, wheat, grains, gluten, legumes, sugar, oils (except olive oil). I still eat minimum amount of meat (chicken, fish) maybe 2 -3 times/wk. I'm slowly trying to eliminate meat totally as I only use to make my meals more filling. My plan is to do Ozone Therapy midway through the detox program, which also rid the body of toxins.

    Ozone therapy is beneficial!

Q: My questions to you is how to I get rid of this keloid on the back of head thats been there for years. I?ve been told that surgical procedures would only make it come back, perhaps worse than what it is now. I?ve attempted an injection of steroid directly into the keloid and subsequent application of a topical cream, that resulted minimal results; but that was years ago and I haven?t done anything since. What do you suggest I do?

    A:

Rub Oxy-Oil on the keloid every morning. This product is great to help heal skin conditions.

Q: My father (age 56 who's between healthy and sick. jogs every morning, but doesn't eat healthy) has pain traveling from knee, back to shoulder, I, myself am very health conscious! but I can't put my finger on this one! His (history) no high blood pressure, non-diabetic, no history of heart attics, stroke etc... but loves to eat sweets.. cakes, cookies, milk, ice cream, etc....I believe this could be a combination of many things, like yeast build up, gas, arteries clogged. Can you help me?

    A:

The best way to find out is have your father (or someone on his behalf) to schedule a health consultation so we can get at the root of the problem. While there could be a host of things causing the problem on the physical level, I'm more interested at getting at the emotional root of the problems. Product-wise, I would have your father start with the FULL BODY DETOX.

Q: First of all I just wanted to thank you so much for enlightening me. I have become a devoted reader daily, for the last 6 months. I have become vegatarian and almost vegan. I eat very little dairy by products such as salad dressing ect. I personally want to thank you for the knowledge that you have shared with us. I had my gallbladder removed about 16 years ago, and I was reading the article on High Cholesterol, and I have a question. Since I do not have a storage place for stomach bile. What dangers can come about with the bile just circulating in my body? When I was unconcious I never though about not having my gallbladder. The doctor said you have gallstones, and you need your gallbladder taken out. I did not ask any questions, due to my ignorance and enormous cramp like pains. At times, I wonder if the bile which has an acid taste is eating away at my organs. Please forgive my ignorance, but my mind wonders. So is there a herb that I can take that will do what my lack of gallbladder should do?

    A:

Thank you for your words! I'd suggest you perform the Full Body Detox and after completion of the cleanse start taking the Liver-Gallbladder-Spleen formula. Bile is alkaline so it's not that bad. However, the bile should not be circulating in your blood.
