Coconuts are one of our favorite tropical fruits. They are delicious and filled with nutritional benefits, and as an extra bonus, coconut products can be used for skin and hair care. This is great news considering many conventional personal care products contain toxins that can be harmful to one’s health. Plus, often times, the prices are not easy on the pocketbook. If you’re looking for a healthy and cost-effective way to replace some of your conventional brand skin and hair care products, coconut is a simple but honest answer. Try these solutions for many of your skin and hair care needs, and your skin, hair, and bank account will thank you!

Lotion

Coconut oil is perfect for moisturizing your skin. Simply lather it on your body generously and give the oil a bit of time to soak in before covering your skin with clothing. If you use coconut oil on your face, be sure to use only a very thin coat, as it may clog up your pores.

Body Scrub

Why spend money on expensive body scrubs when you can easily make your own with just a few ingredients? Mixed with sugar or Epsom Salt, coconut oil is a great addition to your body scrub! It moisturizes your skin while the sugar or Epsom Salt exfoliates, creating soft, smooth and healthy skin. Apply the body scrub to your skin in the shower, rubbing it gently against your skin to let the scrub exfoliate and moisturize. Try this Zesty Sweet Lemon Sugar Body Scrub.

Hair Conditioner

Coconut oil can also be a great substitute for conventional hair conditioner. In the same way it moisturizes your skin, coconut oil can moisturize your hair. It is also a great remedy for frizzy or tangled hair! When in the shower, simply apply some coconut oil to your hair and run your fingers through, until your hair is tangle-free and moisturized. Then, you may either rinse your hair thoroughly or leave the coconut oil in for a day as a deep conditioner. If you choose to leave the coconut oil in your hair, be sure to rinse it thoroughly when you shower next.

Massage Oil

Heated coconut oil can make for a wonderful massage oil. Yet again, coconut oil serves as a fabulous moisturizer and as an added bonus, the scent of coconut is very soothing, making it perfect for a relaxing massage. Simply heat as much oil as you need in the microwave until it is warm or hot and massage it into your skin.

Sunscreen

For short periods in the sun, coconut oil can even be used as an all-natural sunscreen. The U.S. National Library of Medicine explains that when applied to the skin, coconut oil actually blocks out 20 percent of UV rays.

Coconut Milk Face Mask

Coconut oil isn’t the only coconut product that will benefit your skin. Coconut milk can be a great addition to face masks, as it is full of nutrients and serves as a thick liquid base. You may mix it with oatmeal and banana or avocado for a refreshing face mask.

Bath Oil

For a relaxing bath, simply add some coconut oil. The sweet smell and the feeling of the oil in the water will give you a nice, tension-free soak.

Eye Makeup Remover

Do you need a chemical-free makeup remover? Yet again, coconut oil can be used instead. Simply add some coconut oil to a washcloth and dab around the eyes, rinsing afterward.

Q: I read that you do not recommend coconut oil, because of its thickness. Do you believe that coconut butter is healthy for human consumption? Thank you all the knowledge you generously share.

    A:

Actually, coconut oil is healthier for human consumption than coconut butter. Both are derived from a natural food source - the coconut, and thus may be consumed. Now as far as what the most healthiest oil, I don't think we can say it's coconut oil.

Q: I see also that you recommend a complete diet with these programs. I am guessing its a vegan diet right? I wanted to ask something on that is coconut milk and coconut oils ok for that? I personally had a very hard time trying to eat that many vegetables and many ph balance vegans seem to think fruits aren?t good either. I eat that many vegetables one it tears me up the next day and two I just cant consume enough calories that way. I can try and make up for it by eating things like almonds but I eat to many almonds I get the same problem the next day. Now coconut milk (unsweetened) and a digestive enzyme works for me for picking up extra calories.... but I hear very conflicting information about coconut and its saturated fat content. Is it ok to use daily as a part of the diet for cleansing? And your oxy-drops are those the same as the drop for ph balancing water?? Or is it something different? I am wanting to start lifting weights as I need to put on some muscle and I?m wondering if its something that would be beneficial in combating muscle soreness by increased oxygen in the body.

    A:

The diet we recommend is vegan-based, and RAW FOODS. Fresh fruits, vegetables, raw nuts and seeds are ideal.

Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil are excellent products to have in your diet. The healthy fats will keep you fuller.

Oxy-Drops can help balance your electrolytes that need to be replenished after a workout in order to keep your body performing efficiently.

Q: Over the last 2 yrs I've been interested in taking a more holistic approach to my health. I heard a radio ad for the dherbs website in NC where I live. At any rate, after perusing the site, I know there are several products I want to use but I don't want to take a large quantity of supplements at once. I am interested in doing a detox and colon cleanse. I want to improve the health of my eyes. I am very mucus laden and don't want to have an invasive procedure done that ENT/Sinus doctors are suggesting so I would like to do something more natural to clear that head congestion. I also have oily skin and have struggled with acne most of my life and my hair is not manageable so I would like to do something about skin/hair. With the multiple areas that I'm trying to improve, what's the best regime for me without having to take a lot of products together at once?

    A:

Start your healing journey by: 1. Change your diet (Go raw foods/vegan: no meats, no dairy products, etc.) 2. Perform the FULL BODY DETOX 3. After the FBD, take daily EYES FORMULA, MUCUS BUSTER FORMULA and ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD.

Q: Yes coconut oil maybe natural but I go thru 3-4 jars per week, 1-1/2 a jar a day, not only is it making me broke out I do not think all that saturated fat is good for me. I know I lack a lot of protein and other vitamins in my diet. Could this lack of essential nutrition cause this weird craving? I don't know if it is the massive loss of blood due to the fibroids.

    A:

I think you know the answer for yourself. Therefore, stop eating the coconut oil. Take some vitamins and minerals and see if this helps. Sounds like PICA, a nutritional deficiency which causes cravings. Blood loss most certainly will cause loss of nutrients.

Dark circles around the eye denote kidney problems (excess fluid buildup) and/or perhaps lack of proper rest/sleep time. You can heal from this too.

Q: I am having really bad dry skin problems. My scalp is very dry and I can pull huge chucks of skin out of my hair. My fore head is peeling and around my nose area is peeled off and has left me with red raw skin around my nose. I wanted to know what should I do to help solve my dry skin problem?

    A:

Wewould suggest you perform our Full Body Detox. Also, purchase the Full Body Cleanse Companion booklet and perform some of the soaks mentioned in there. The best soak is to soak in 2-3 boxes of sea salt and 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide for about an hour per day. After getting out of the tub, rub our Oxy-Oil over your entire body to help the skin breathe.

Q: I just ordered the FULL BODY DETOX and I know there's a dietary regimen that I will have to follow. I was wondering if you would approve of a protein shake that consist of (raw hemp protein powder, raw almond butter, sea salt, flax seed, 100% young coconut water & meat inside the coconut, raw carob powder,) (optional soy or rice milk or soy or rice cream)

    A:

Doesn't sound like it will mess up your FULL BODY DETOX. Go for it! But leave out the rice/soy cream! The rice milk is okay (but it is processed/cooked)!

Q: I was online searching for some natural treatments for hair growth in Black Men when I came across your article. I must say that I believe it was so on point that I decided not to look any further. I'm 44 years of age and started noticing my hair thinning when about 12 years ago. I was one of those that you wrote about in your article chasing a lifestyle that is no longer an interest to me. I did fall into some bad habits that were not good for my health off and on over the past 15 years or so more off than on. My body type I would describe as athletic. I'm tone, and strong when I exercise regularly. I'm about 150lbs @ 5'11". My diet is mostly vegetables but from time to time I feel I have to eat fish or chicken. Not necessarily prepared in the healthiest way I'm sure. I just got out of one of my "on" spells so to speak. Meaning the drinking of beer and cigarettes. I've been smoking and drinking beer now since September 2006 after not having done anything but live healthy for six years before that. As soon as my wife and I came back to the states and started working and runnign again these old destructive habits appeared again in my life. I only blame myself though. Right now my hair and skin suffer from the chemical poisoning from the habits that I just mentioned. I am prepared to take your advice about righteous living to heart and start fresh again. Is there a mild remedy that can work with me to stimulate the re-growth of my hair in the spots where it is balding in that classic balding pattern? I am generally very healthy when I doing right and even now rarely get sick. But my sickness manifest in stress and bad habits to num the pain of having to live this way when don't really want to. I quit the job that I've been working for the past 4 years for that reason and have been blessed to have some time not to grind everyday chasing after money. Now is a crucial time of healing for me, and I must take full advantage of the time. Moderation is in order for whatever you can suggest for me in the way of herbal remedies. I am sure that you can prescribe a simple overall regiment for my overall health based on what I have shared with you with an emphasis on the hair and skin. Again, thank you for writing the article. Call or write. The sooner the better.......Thank You!!

    A:

I would say first detox with the FULL BODY DETOX and get your diet right CONSISTENTLY! Constantly clean your temple! This is key! Next, perform the TOTAL MALE CLEANSE. After this, do a daily regimen of HAIR SKIN NAILS FORMULA, ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD, KHEMETIAN GOLD, and MSM SULFUR. Forgive yourself of past self-inflicted harm! Stop worrying about your hair loss. Start visualizing your hair growing back. If you can see it, you will achieve it! The mind is all and problems and remedies begin in the mind! BTW: we offer phone consultations if you're interested.

Q: Woke up today and felt a lump under my skin in my pubic hair area, right above the shaft of penis. Of course this made me quickly call doctor. I was wondering if I should just detox and see what happens? I have a feeling that doc will only refer me to some other specialist or so-called.

It's always your choice, Beloved. Listen to your inner voice!

Q: I am a fair-skinned African American and I was wondering what are your recommendations for skin care? I don’t wear makeup or anything; I am just interested in finding a cleansing, moisturizing regimen for daily use. All the products I have seen are SO expensive and or full of toxins. I don’t have any skin problems such as acne. I noticed you have several soaps but I was unsure as to which are best for my face. Finally, is there really a need to wear sunscreen? Is there such a thing as "safe" sunscreen?

    A:

SOUNDS LIKE YOU MAY BE INTERESTED IN OUR ALTERNATIVE DIET AND LIFESTYLES MANUAL MANUAL E-BOOK WHICH HAS A LISTING OF HEALTHY/ALTERNATIVE PRODUCTS INCLUDING SKIN CARE PRODUCTS. IT'S AVAILABLE FROM THE ON-LINE STORE ($10). THE NUBAIN HERITAGE SOAPS WE SELL ARE GOOD BUT I ACTUALLY RECOMMEND KISS MY FACE BRANDS FOR SKIN CARE PURPOSES. THERE IS REALLY NO NEED TO WEAR SUNSCREEN. SUNSCREEN IS PROMOTED BECAUSE IT WAS INVENTED AND SO IT MUST SELL, SO A THEORY THAT THE SUN WAS DAMAGING TO THE SKIN WAS CREATED AND SUNSCREEN BEGAN TO SELL.

Q: I am a 49 yr. old black female. When I was younger I had severe cystic acne that left me with what the dermatologist calls "ice pick scaring" and enlarged pores. I had 2 full face dermabrasions in my 30s and have been on retina A from then up until now. I have a pretty healthy diet and exercise routine. My Father and a couple of Uncles of mine also had the same type of skin problems, left with the same aftermath. I use French green clay masks which slightly reduce the look of the large pores and a sugar, honey, and lemon scrub (I make it at home) and I use it on my face. I'm not unattractive, but my skin looks rough and dull and pitted on my cheeks and nose. All the doctors talk about scar revision (cutting),laser treatments, chemical peels, and all sorts of invasive surgeries. I don't want to go that route again and I feel bad about the way I look sometimes. Are there ANY suggestions that you can give that will help me?

    A:

SKIN PROBLEMS ARE UNDERLYING BLOOD PROBLEMS. CLEANSE YOUR BLOOD, GIVE YOUR BODY NUTRITION. STEAM YOUR FACE. KEEP CLAYING YOUR FACE. IMPROVE UPON YOUR DIET GO ALL RAW FOODS OR VEGAN DIET). A GOOD ARTICLE TO READ IS â€SKIN RASH†ON OUR SITE UNDER ARTICLES.

Q: Thank you for the wonderful info you give to help us all live healthier lives. My concern is my hair loss. Is there an herbal remedies to help hair grow back like it did when I was in my young teens. I'm 41 years old now and my hair loss is primarily on the top. If you need to know my race (for any reason) I'm a black man. I do not want to use Rogain or any other chemicals to re grow my hair or pay money for hair transplants. Is there any hope to grow hair naturally or am I stuck with my genetic code of losing my hair? Thanks in advance!
