Our Food Choices Are Killing Endangered Animals in the Amazon

Slash and burn cultivation, rainforest cut and burned to plant c

Through no fault of their own – but rather, because of the seemingly insatiable human appetite for meat and dairy products – cows have sadly become an invasive species of sorts. Their expansion into the Amazon rainforest, where they are being reared in large numbers to satisfy human demands for their flesh and secretions, has directly caused around 80 percent of the deforestation in this region. This has led to a drastic reduction in the amount of land available for the native animal species of this area, such as the jaguar, the giant otter, the toucan, and many different kinds of monkeys. In addition to this, beef production in the Amazon has been linked to severe drought in many urban communities throughout Brazil, whose water supplies are being diverted to the livestock system instead.

The desecration of the Amazon rainforest is also driving up worldwide greenhouse gas emissions, thereby threatening the icy Arctic habitat of another much-loved animal species, the polar bear. It begs the question: why are we, as a human species, bent on wiping out the animals that so many of us profess to admire, in order to make way for animals that most of us regard as nothing more than commodities, who exist merely for the sake of our taste pleasure?

Sadly, this problem is not confined to the Amazon rainforest. Here in the U.S., for example, wild horses are being systematically driven toward oblivion. They are being chased off public land in cruel helicopter-led roundups, in order to satisfy ranchers’ demands for more land on which to raise cattle. Last year it was revealed that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the government body charged with caretaking wild horse populations, sent almost 1,800 federally protected wild horses to slaughter between 2009 and 2012. This is just one example of the many injustices that have been perpetrated against these animals, simply because their existence limits the expansive ambitions of those who wish to use their homes as grazing land for cattle.

Around the world, the extremely resource-intensive animal agriculture industry has pushed countless indigenous animal species to the brink of extinction. It occupies around 45 percent of our planet’s total land area while an estimated 33 percent of the world’s arable land is devoted to growing livestock feed. The world has lost 52 percent of its wildlife in the past forty years, and is in the midst of its sixth mass extinction event, caused by human activity … and animal agriculture is a major driving factor behind this event.

Q: I read your article on Dangerous Dairy, and I cannot find on the internet any back up on what is discussed about dairy. Example, fecal matter (like milk), if this is not real fecal matter. What are you talking about? It is also stated that no other animals will drink other animals milk. This is not so, there are reports of baby animals, that lose their mothers and another species steps in to save the baby animals life. A dog saving a baby tigers life. A squirrel saving a pigs life, etc. It is a known fact that we have been eating dairy products for over 8,0000 years. I know that times have changed, but where are your facts were are you getting these facts to report such cause and effect? I would like to see this facts or websites. Thank you.

Q: I heard about Hoodia on the TODAY show on NBC. It's supposed to suppress your appetite for weight loss. I have printed wikepedia for a more formal definition. It's supposed to be natural. Hoodia is a genus of 13 species in the flowering plant family Apocynaceae, under the subfamily Asclepiadoideae. [1] They are stem succulents, described as "cactiform" because of their remarkable similarity to the unrelated cactus family. They can reach up to 1mhigh and have large flowers, often with flesh colour and strong smell. Many Hoodia species are protected plants, typical of the Namib Desert, ranging from Central Namibia to southern Angola, especially in plains and rocky areas. Common names include "Bushman's Hat" and "Queen of the Namib". Several species are grown as garden plants, and one species, Hoodia gordonii, is being investigated for use as an appetite suppressant.

    A:

Suppression is not cure or healing! You can't solve a problem by suppressing it! A suppressed appetite will manifest in some other area, i.e., an enormous appetite for sex, shopping, drugs, etc. Just because a thing is natural doesn't mean you are addressing the root of the problem, Beloved! It's much deeper than suppressing!

Q: I have herd that many animals in the wild eat hippopotamus feces before the fight, for the high levels of testosterone contained in the poop. Therefore, I am wondering if we could make a dietary supplement, with high levels of all natural testosterone in it?

    A:

No, I'm not interested in making a product like that. I will not follow nature's course. The human body has all it needs.

Q: In the Full Body Detox booklet it states I can have wild rice if I need something warm. I really don't like wild rice, but can I make myself a vegetable soup which I prefer. To me its more filling then the rice.

    A:

DHERBS: Sure! Simply eat your vegetable soup instead of wild rice.

Also I have been having sweet cravings lately. Is there anyone, besides mental will power to overcome this craving.

DHERBS: The root cause is emotional, however, try drinking Licorice Root or Cinnamon tea during your detox. Your detox may be detoxing some old stale emotions from the 4th chakra (love center).

Q: Hi! I just found this site and am intrigued. I love the fact that everything is so pure and natural! I was wondering how effective the wild yam birth control is? I would love to not be on this depo shot anymore because the hormones drive me crazy. But my husband and I are extremely fertile, so taking wild yam kind of makes me nervous. Thanks!

    A:

Wild yam is very effective as an herbal birth control! Very! Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine!

Q: I want to know what is the difference in using the Wild Alum Root Powder for douching in reference to my prolapsed uterus problem vs. using the FEMALE HEALTH TEA Product that you sell. I would like to know so that I am able to know why and when to use a particular herbal product that will be better for my situation. Your clarity on this for my education will greatly appreciate. Thanks for your time and do have a wonderful day/evening upon receipt of this email. Thanks again for any clarity you can provide so I will better understand why you suggested and advised me to use the Female Health Tea.

    A:

There's really no difference: it's just that wild alum is one herb (and a very good) and the tea I recommended has more herbs which have an affinity for female organs. Both can be used or one over the other.

Q: Hi it's me again. I just read what you said about meat and what I don't understand is if meat was not good for us why in the Bible people eat Lamb. How would you explain back in the Bible times during Abraham and Moses when they use to offer sacrifice and kill a lamb were they cruel and going against God. And those who couldn't afford animals like Lamb would use bird eggs. In the book of Exodus chp. 12: 11,21,27,43,48 and Lev. 23:5 and 12:3, Deut. 16:7and Exodus 34:25 when the death Angel was passing and God told them to kill a Lamb and put the blood on the door post and gave the command for them to roast it. How would you explain that because up until this day the Jews still eat Lamb. Even fish, it was fish that God used to feed the 5000 people. Are you saying I can't eat fish at all. I would like to know some of the things you eat in the place of meat , fish and chicken. I really want to change my eating habit.

    A:

All meat consumption came AFTER the Fall of Man (Genesis Chapter 6). Man can eat meat while in a degenerate state but to return back to Eden he/she must go back to plant foods. Also, meat today is greatly TAINTED unlike meat 4,000 - 6,000 years ago! It's not the same. Jews are not the healthiest people, by the way! Health conscious people are!

Q: I have had bacterial vaginosis for about 2 years now. My symptoms are not bad, as I only feel a little bit of itching and burning every now and then. But I do have a lot of discharge, which generally actually does not smell foul. The reason is gardnerella. I have tried all kinds of treatments from antibiotics, boric acid, homeopathy and magnetism, but nothing has helped so far. I've been a vegetarian for almost ten years now, although I do eat fish from time to time. I avoid breads, dairy products, eggs and seafood. However, I've been really busy lately and in a lot of stress, so I have been paying less attention to what I eat. I do prefer pretty comfortable clothing though. As far as treatment goes, I am not interested in daily baths or douches (have tried this as well based on a homeopath's recommendation) or anything like that, as I simply don't have the time or the conditions for it. I currently live in a Third World Country. What can and should I do? I am thinking more of supplements etc. I hope you can give me some advice

    A:

Please read our BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS article. It is very detailed and tells you everything you need to know and what to do.

Q: I write you on behalf of my 37 year old aunt who is undergoing different physical illnesses in her life. The two illnesses that I mentioned in the subject area are the main two ones (not sure if I spelled them correctly, though.). The first being the meningioma-- a cyst that has already caused blindness in one of her eyes, and is now growing larger; threatening to do the same to her other eye, causing, God forbid, total blindness. I know you consider these names to be covers for the real, underlying issues. I have mentioned your Full Body Detox kit to her. My question is, what are your suggestions in regards to this situation? I know that if I am not there to support her, this program will probably never happen. We come from a family whose cuisine is Mediterranean, cooked, and does include meat and dairy. I have read your philosophy on these foods, though, I'm sure such a strict regiment will not be her way, indefinitely. However, I'm sure that the cleanses can be done, regardless of this fact. I'm not sure if I'm making much sense to you right now or not, however, your help would be greatly appreciated.

    A:

This person seriously needs to perform our Full Body Detox. You see, it doesn't matter what the disease is, detoxing the body is the answer - ALWAYS! I highly advise the person performs the Full Body Detox and drink Detox Tea during the 3-weeks.

Q: I need some advice on whether I am taking the right herbs to balance my hormones. I have a mustache and a lot of hair on my face and acne. So I take saw palmetto for that. Also, I had an ovary removed about 2 years ago. Since then I have a problem with vaginal dryness and very low sex drive. I am always moody and irritated by everything. I am currently taking saw palmetto, vitex chaste berry, dong quai, and wild yam root, all in the form of a capsule. Please tell me if this combination is good for me.

    A:

THE COMBINATION IS GOOD, BUT YOU HAVE A HORMONAL IMBALANCE AND SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON YOUR ENDOCRINE SYSTEM. LOOK INTO OUR TOTAL WOMAN CLEANSE. YOU ARE PRODUCING MORE MALE-BASED HORMONES THAN FEMALE-BASED HORMONES. READ OUR ARTICLE â€FEMALE HORMONAL REPLACEMENT THERAPYâ€

Q: I was most impressed by your website. The information to support your products and your obvious interest in informing the public caught and kept my attention. As I searched further into Black Seed Tea, the reason for my visit, I noticed your product ALCOHOL BUSTER. The comment of "on the metaphysical level, alcohol consumption also impairs the human aura" although very non clinical, is very much my way of thinking, it got my attention. I read as far as the disclaimer, "the formula does not have the power to prevent consumption of alcohol as only will power and a made up mind can do this." Here's where I step out of character and find myself writing this e-mail. It has been my experience while working with people from all walks of life, who are members of any 12 step program, that a reference to will power as a prevention of anything is a two edged sword. While I agree will power is important in abstention, I believe the person is benefited by using their personal will power to seek help, to commit to recovery, to take care of the physical, mental and emotional bodies. I don't believe "human" will power is the power that prevents consumption. The suggestion that "will power and a made up mind can prevent consumption of alcohol" to a person with an addiction could become a deadly idea. This of course is my opinion, do with it what you feel is appropriate.

    A:

I feel you in where you're coming from, but I truly believe and know human willpower plays a role in prevention and healing of all disease. The strongest thing humans have is a will. Will meshes with desire in many cases. Both are strong in humans. Now, you're dealing with a person with addiction in regards to your last statement and I can totally understand where you are coming from but the sick person is not exempt from any laws of healing. There is no real or true healing absent willpower to do a thing, a beneficial thing. The addicted person must be first dealt with on the physical and psychological levels and then the spiritual and energetic (getting to the root of the addiction: perhaps a 2nd chakra problem or something hanging over from a past life). All addiction points to spiritual void and therefore the only ultimate healing here is mental or spiritual via mental. As you know, it's mind-body-spirit and all must be dealt with for healing. Will is important in abstention but we don't won't people to focus on abstaining which is usually converted into "can't have" by the addicted person. We want people to only focus on the good, the healthy, what they need and require, not what they don't want or can't have because their subconscious mind will create the situations and circumstances by which these people end up consuming the thing that is insalubrious for them. It never fails. I grew up with an alcoholic mother and plenty of other alcoholics. We want people to have and use willpower to GO FOR the best things for them, will in DOING the right and healthy things for themselves. All healing is ultimately within self. As a man thicket so is he! Peace be unto you fellow metaphysician!

Q: How are you? I see you will be in the Atlanta area soon. Anywho... I finished both Detoxes. waiting on the results from the test. I am doing maintenance now. Being that I am a single mom this healing process has been hard finically. But it is well worth it. I bought the ANTI-VIRAL FORMULA (taking 3x per day), I bought the RAINFOREST TONIC TEA ( wow) and I couldn't afford the immune booster so I am taking a store brand. So..here is what I am feeling now. Lower back still has a discomfort, I little piece of my heel is still numb and the slightest noise makes me jump. I wanted to know if the nerve pills will help with the jumping and also my back. I am taking the sulper for the lower back discomfort but not a major difference yet. Also as I am typing this note to you..my left arm feels like a burning feeling. When I rub it I feel the sensation. Do I need to get the iron pills or blood & lym. pills? I hope to hear from you soon.

    A:

I'd recommend NERVES FORMULA as well as CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM FORMULA. Consider seeing a chiropractic as well. If you can't afford capsules, consider drinking the herbal teas.

Q: My husband has scar tissue on his head. He was hit on the head with a bat by some attackers (years ago). The top of his head is extremely hard like a rock --the entire thing is scar tissue. In the back towards his neck but still on his head is a larger patch of raised scar tissue. It is so severe that he has lost and appears to be losing more hair off the top of his head (I think it's because his skin isn't breathing or getting oxygen. He's tried everything from drinking Aloe Vera and applying this to all sorts of products. Currently he is using the skintight products (razor/hair bump, as well as the coco butter) however after reading your article about alcohol, I know they contain this so I don't want him to keep using it even though we are seeing some larger results than we ever have before with that product. We are both vegetarians. He has been a vegetarian for 15 years. He used to eat soy burgers etc., but has completely cut that out for about 3 months. He is now in his third week of raw food (as prescribed by your website) just drinking the green juice from Bolthouse (algae, wheatgrass, spinach etc.) and eating large spinach and vegetable raw salads. We are using the recipe that you included in your e-books. We will continue on a diet like this for the next year while we cleanse our bodies and keep this lifestyle. However, with all of that, my question for you is-- Do you have any recommendations for him to remove his scar tissue? I thought the OZ OIL would help. In addition, I'd like to buy him the FIBRIOD BUSTER and/or any other fibroid kits- but the website says they are for women (only?). Any recommendations you could make would be most appreciated.

    A:

I would tell you to keep using natural products (shea butter, OZ OIL, FIBRIOD BUSTER, MSM SULFUR, etc.) and let the healing take place at its own course. The more you focus on what you don't like (his head injury) the more it will magnify (not heal). His body is programmed to heal and it will but you must remain open to let the body heal at its own pace. Just continue to eat, think, and live right. He'll heal! Just give it time! Let nature do her thing!

Q: Thank you for always answering my questions. I have about two more. Okay, I'm currently living overseas where I'm limited on raw fresh foods (vegetables and fruits). I want to do the detox but I'm concerned that I won't have everything as far as raw food to be successful. I have access to basics (apples, oranges, bananas, tomatoes, avocados, melons, lettuce, cabbage, bean spouts, carrots, celery, peppers, green beans, peas, bagged nuts,) but nothing exotic by any means. Then I was told to safely eat some of the food in the local economy that we should wash it with a 5% bleach solution (is that safe...and if on the detox I'm thinking that would be a no go). Two questions?Given the mentioned availability of raw foods could I be able to successfully complete the detox (I don't have an issue with eating the same things over and over again) and two what can I do to clean local produce so that its safe for consumption? Apparently part of the issue is that they use human feces to fertilize. Thank you for your time and I look forward to your response

    A:

Yes, it seems you have enough raw food available to you to complete the cleanse.

In order to clean local produce, rinse thoroughly with apple cider vinegar to "disinfect" it. If apple cider vinegar is unavailable, just use water.
