Raw Beetroot and Rosemary Tarts

These little tarts are a delicious way to introduce people to raw food! The filling is rich yet subtle and light and the bases hold together well without needing to be dehydrated. You could try some other fillings too- perhaps a pumpkin and coriander or avocado and basil. You can be creative if you like! This filling is really lovely and is great just as a dip or spread also if you wish to double the recipe and have extra!

RAW BEETROOT AND ROSEMARY TARTS [VEGAN, GLUTEN-FREE]

SERVES

INGREDIENTS

The base:

  • 1 cup of almond meal
  • 6 sun dried tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon of psyllium husk
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup of sunflower seeds
  • 1teaspoon of tamari
  • 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of flax seed meal

Filling:

  • 1/2 cup of soaked cashews- strained and rinsed
  • 1/2 a cup of soaked sunflower seeds- strained and rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of tamari
  • 6 rosemary leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar
  • 1 small beetroot grated
  • 1/4 of a zucchini grated
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 inch piece of fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons of filtered water

PREPARATION

  1. To make the crusts, place all of the ingredients in your food processor and process until the mixture comes together and forms a dough.
  2. Press the dough into 4 small pie tins or muffin trays- make sure to line them so they can pop out easily.
  3. Place the bases in the fridge while you make the filling.
  4. Place all of the ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until the mixture is very smooth and creamy. You may need to add a touch more water, but try and keep the mixture firm and not too runny.
  5. Use a spatula to distribute the filling between the four bases and then place the tarst back in the fridge for at least an hour or two to set.
  6. Top the tarts before serving with fresh mint and a scatter of sesame seeds.
  7. Enjoy!

    Q: I read on your website that you can naturally dissolve plaque through the 10 Day Electric Green Cell Food Cleanse. My question is, if I were to eat pure organic spirulina, teaspoon after teaspoon throughout everyday. Would that dissolve arterial plaque? What would this do?

    Q: I was wondering if it is okay to mix Mrs. Dash season blend with Olive Oil as a dressing for my salad?     Q: The reason I have chronic constipation is not because of diet, I eat very healthy, it is because of pain medication (narcotics), that I have to take to be able to stand the excruciating pain I am suffering from 5 spinal surgeries (I have metal rods in my spine from my shoulder blades to my tailbone).     Q: I am on my 3rd day of the fully body cleansing. I am definitely doing this to lose weight. I am a 52 year old, black, Christian, wife, mother to 21 and 14 year old girls, legal secretary who is 450 lbs. I am to the point now where if I don't do this I'm going to be housebound. I can barely move some days that is why I started this because I feel so unhealthy. I have a question about the nuts. I got all gun-ho and ordered $135.00 worth of organic nuts from nuts.com. I got raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios and cashews and mixed them all up together (well I purchased 2 lbs of each but I only mixed up 1 lb of each together). Anyway, I was reading about how much calories are in nuts. Should I not pay attention to that because I was consuming a lot of calories in the first place or do I have to watch how many nuts I eat? I have put some nuts in a sandwich bags and basically filled it up and that is supposed to be my nuts ration for the day. I am also eating fruits and vegetables. So far the fruit have been grapes, grapefruit, red apples, pears, green apples and bananas. The vegetables have all been in a salad: tomatoes, celery spinach leaves, carrots, mixed in balsamic vinaigrette. I only ate the salad Monday night all the other times I have just eaten the fruit and nuts. I am also consuming approximately 75-100 oz of water. Sorry I’m long winded I just wanted you to get the entire picture.

    Nuts are best kept to a minimum if you use them at all. Nuts are extremely high in fat and have the opposite omega 3- omega 6 ratio that is optimal for health. Seeds are best as far as ratios are concerned. Also nuts are truly easy to over eat and cause your nutrient ratios to be off.

     

    A healthy vegan diet is a high raw fruitarian diet. 

    Example:

    Breakfast: green smoothie. (500-1000 calories of fruits blended with a handful of greens and water)

    Bridge: Dates and strawberries (500 calories) 

    Lunch: Salad with low sugar fruits (cucumber, tomato, squash, bell peppers) topped with fruit, beans, psuedo grains, 

    Bridge: 2-3 apples

    Dinner: Raw wraps (collard greens) with low sugar fruit and tahini

    Snack: Sorbet

    Q: I recently purchased your Parasite and Worm Kit and wanted to know what grains were good to eat during or after the cleanse. I eat Bulgur, brown rice, black rice, couscous, gold and brown flax seed and ground provisions i.e. yams, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, turnips and etc. Are these ok to eat during the Parasite and Worm Kit or after?     Stay RAW while removing the parasites! If you stay mostly RAW, then on a few days you can engage yourself in some of the foods you mention below (maybe once a week)! But RAW is best! Apple Cider Vinegar is the BEST vinegar to use!

    Q: Several people in the conscious community have stated that adding flax seeds and/or flax seed powder to our diet benefits the colon for complete and clean bowel movements. My question is, does flax seed powder or the seeds themselves promote parasites in the stomach and colon? A few of my friends and I have completed the parasite cleanse and got into a debate about it.     Flax seed undoubtedly helps the colon (due to fiberous nature) but it is absurd to think or suggest that flax seeds (in any form) promotes parasites. Meat, dairy, refined grains and other processed foods is what promotes parasites in the stomach, colon, and rest of the body. So, as Public Enemy would say: "Don't believe the hype!"

    Q: Thank you so much for doing all that you do. I wish that you were in my everyday life...If I ever come to Cali, I hope to be able to take you up on some of your services. I have given your site out to many people that cross my paths...most recently, a man with diabetes who is going blind. Since I moved here, I have a problem with my ears...filling up with water or histimine or whatever...usually if I don't drink enough water near my menstrual cycle...I went to a doctor once and basically walked out of the office telling him what to do for his cold...yasee..he was no help...I knew more than him already....these past two years have been bad for allergies. Now, my ears and my throat...my nose too...though I do clean it out with water and that helps. I am not the only one. In the past two years there is a great number of people who say the same thing...they have never had a problem with allergies until these past two years. My grandmother and next door neighbor are two..but many more...well they just started up that steel mill again probably about that time...they sprayed hard core for mosquitos right before my grandmother started having problems...global warming for one...and i dont' know..but two years ago I was involved with a group of people sending out petitions against an LNG liquid natural gas plant that would bring in a ship two times the size of a football field and a huge pipe line to pennsylvania, and a skyscraper of a building to store the gas. Well...we fought against it...but apparently the gas company has more say than our own local government...I don't know...but hear about it every once in a while that they are still trying to get it built.     In regards to your question: Oh yes! By all means purchase an air purifier or an ozone machine (which will actually be best or better for you). Make sure you detox (FULL BODY DETOX) periodically, consume ACTIVATED CHARCOAL, and take plenty of IODINE PHOSPHATE as sea weed is great for neutralizing the effects of radiation.

    Q: I started the full body detox today, and found that I DO NOT like the salad dressing I made with the olive oil, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. I found I could not tolerate it on my salad. What can I do instead? Another question is... I noticed lentils on the food combining chart. Those have to be cooked. Are those actually allowed to be consumed warm? I love the raw fruits and vegetables. I don?t have a problem, cause I love salads. I just need help on what I can have on it.

    Q: I love to drink water, but I like to drink hot water you know boiling water slightly cooled. Is there a benefit, or disadvantage to this compared to drinking room temperature water? Secondly, the water I drink is boiled water. Alkaline water is not a privilege most Kenyans have. If 56% of the population is living below poverty line you do the math. So the water I drink is tap water, that I boil to make it safe for drinking. When I get to work I have Alkaline water as my work place provides me with that provision. I think this is detailed enough for you to get the picture and help. Once again (I love you) in Swahili for spreading the gospel!

    Q: I have read that Peppermint, Lavender, Rosemary and Sage essential oils are all good for hair and stimulating hair growth. Would it be more beneficial to use them all at once for maximum result or should I just use the Rosemary and Sage only as you suggested? Also, I didn?t see any Almond oil so I was wondering if I could use Olive oil or Jojoba oil as a carrier oil.

    Yes they are great for stimulating hair growth; however, I would use them together or combined. ANY natural edible oil can be used - it's YOUR choice. Jojoba and/or sesame seed oil are the best oils for the hair.

    Q: I've made a lifestyle change about 8 months ago. I excluded all dairy, wheat, grains, gluten, legumes, sugar, oils (except olive oil). I still eat minimum amount of meat (chicken, fish) maybe 2 -3 times/wk. I'm slowly trying to eliminate meat totally as I only use to make my meals more filling.     Q: Dear herbalist, I would like to know if it's alright for me to alternate cod liver oil pill (omega 3) in between taking the blood and lymph cleanse. I use to have beautiful skin until spring of this year.     Q: I was cleaning my place yesterday and shortly after, I noticed small itchy red bumps all over my body mainly arms, shoulders, back. After doing some research, I came to the conclusion that it might be dust mites (I have a long-haired cat that sheds a lot).     Q: I purchased the Activated Charcoal to use for teeth whitening, but on the package the instructions were to take a 1/2 teaspoon with water. Can you tell me what taking it is good for besides the teeth whitening? Again, thanks for all of the information you provide.
