Many people consider watermelon their favorite summer fruit but did you know that some people consider it a vegetable? Watermelon is related to cucumbers, squash and pumpkins, planted from seeds, and grown as a vegetable crop. The outer rind of watermelon is often stir-fried, stewed and pickled as a vegetable. Botanically, however, watermelon is considered a fruit and it is delicious in salads, chilled soups and just as is.

Whether you consider it a fruit or a vegetable, watermelon is a healthy food. Though mostly water, the fruit is packed with vitamins and minerals including antioxidants like vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and potassium, magnesium and fiber. It is high in lycopenes, phytonutrients that aid cardiovascular and bone health. Even the seeds are good for you – roasted watermelon seeds contain lots of magnesium, iron and copper. For more on the health benefits, see A True Summer Superfruit: Watermelon and its Health Benefits.

Of course, most of us love watermelon because it is cool, juicy, sweet and refreshing. Need some pointers on what to do with a watermelon. Q: My friend who recommended the full body cleanse said I should contact you. I'm getting very bad reactions to the charcoal powder. Both productive and dry heaves, stomach cramping (VERY painful) and diarrhea. Every 20 minutes I'm in the bathroom. Take powder at approx. 10pm and from midnight to approx. 4am this goes on. I'm physically drained and called in sick to work today (I almost never do this). Also important, this month is my 2 year anniversary of my last chemo treatment. I had stage 3 Hodgkin?s Lymphoma and underwent the ABVD cocktail over 8 months. I've only had a banana this morning and a piece of watermelon this afternoon - I don't really want to eat. What should I take to get my energy back?

    A:

Abstain from taking the charcoal for about a week and then reintroduce the Full Body Cleanse.

To regain energy, your body needs more fuel. Eat some avocado, or raw nuts or seeds, or make a big salad to give your body the nutrients it needs to operate properly.

Q: My feet and ankles swell only do it in the summer months. What is the major cause of it?

    A:

THE ANKLES AND FEET SWELL DUE TO EXCESS FLUID TRAPPED IN THE BODY WHICH POINTS TO A POOR CIRCULATION PROBLEM. AS FOR THE SUMMER TIME, I'D HAVE TO GO MORE INTO DETAIL ON THE VARIOUS REASONS. A CONSULTATION IS BEST FOR THIS, AS I WOULD HAVE TO WRITE A BOOK TO EXPLAIN THE VARIOUS REASONS. NEVER THE LESS, YOU HAVE EXCESS FLUID TRAPPED IN YOUR BODY AND YOU SHOULD ABSTAIN FROM MAN-MADE SALT AND USE SEA SALT INSTEAD AS SALT CAUSES RETENTION OF WATER IN THE BODY. I WILL ASLO DO AN ARTICLE ON THIS SUBJECT VERY SOON SO PLEASE STAY TUNED TO DHERB.COM.

Q: I am on my 3rd day of the fully body cleansing. I am definitely doing this to lose weight. I am a 52 year old, black, Christian, wife, mother to 21 and 14 year old girls, legal secretary who is 450 lbs. I am to the point now where if I don't do this I'm going to be housebound. I can barely move some days that is why I started this because I feel so unhealthy. I have a question about the nuts. I got all gun-ho and ordered $135.00 worth of organic nuts from nuts.com. I got raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios and cashews and mixed them all up together (well I purchased 2 lbs of each but I only mixed up 1 lb of each together). Anyway, I was reading about how much calories are in nuts. Should I not pay attention to that because I was consuming a lot of calories in the first place or do I have to watch how many nuts I eat? I have put some nuts in a sandwich bags and basically filled it up and that is supposed to be my nuts ration for the day. I am also eating fruits and vegetables. So far the fruit have been grapes, grapefruit, red apples, pears, green apples and bananas. The vegetables have all been in a salad: tomatoes, celery spinach leaves, carrots, mixed in balsamic vinaigrette. I only ate the salad Monday night all the other times I have just eaten the fruit and nuts. I am also consuming approximately 75-100 oz of water. Sorry I’m long winded I just wanted you to get the entire picture.

    A:

Thanks for the question, I can definitely help you.

I am currently writing an eBook for www.dherbs.com called "Losing weight the healthy way." I have been a weight loss counselor for many years. I am also a health coach, personal trainer, bodymind nutritionist, and a vegan lifestyle coach.

When it comes to weight loss most programs want you to lose weight to get healthy. My mindset is to get healthy and lose weight.

In my health/fitness/nutrition coaching program www.theveganeffect.com I use a lowfat/high carb/ high raw/ nutrient dense/ high alkaline diet to achieve long term weight loss success. So far I am 100 percent in getting clients long lasting weight loss. If you are interested in my program please fill out the health history form on the side of the web page. We could have a free 1 hour initial consultation over skype to see how I can best help you.

Nuts are best kept to a minimum if you use them at all. Nuts are extremely high in fat and have the opposite omega 3- omega 6 ratio that is optimal for health. Seeds are best as far as ratios are concerned. Also nuts are truly easy to over eat and cause your nutrient ratios to be off.

A healthy vegan diet is a high raw fruitarian diet.

    Example:

Breakfast: green smoothie. (500-1000 calories of fruits blended with a handful of greens and water)

Bridge: Dates and strawberries (500 calories)

Lunch: Salad with low sugar fruits (cucumber, tomato, squash, bell peppers) topped with fruit, beans, psuedo grains,

    Bridge: 2-3 apples

Dinner: Raw wraps (collard greens) with low sugar fruit and tahini

    Snack: Sorbet

    Hope this helps

Q: Hi, I?m 26 years old male. I got genital herpes this summer 2007, the first outbreak was pretty itchy and painful a little, and now I got another small one. I have been reading your article and the power of mind and have been staying as positive as I can and also putting some aloe vera from the original leaf on the outbreak, and it is going away much quicker than the initial outbreak. However I am certain that I can completely get this so called incurable virus out of my system because it doesn?t make any sense to me that it would just lay there forever. Can you further guide me? I have ordered your Full Body Detox and the Anti Viral kit. You are really making a big impact on my life in a positive way and I am grateful to have found you. Q: I am a 33-year-old mother of a 2-year-old little boy. I live in Northern, New Jersey. Please recommend a holistic doctor for adults and a holistic pediatrician in the Northern New Jersey area. I also am having issues with fibroids. I had multiple fibroids removed last summer. Yesterday I went to my OB/GYN and had a histosonogram, which the doctor tells me it shows I have one polyp. In my mind I feel that this is something that should have been taken care of when I had the myomectomy. Is it possible they missed this polyp?????or could it have grown since last summer???I am beginning to feel like I am being butchered by the doctor. Please recommend a good holistic OB/GYN in the NJ area. Also, I do not want to have this polyp surgically removed. I read about your formula called FIBROID TUMORS...it dissolves uterine and ovarian fibroid tumors..also FEMALE HORMONAL FORMULA, MOON CYCLE FORMULA, and others. At the moment I am just all over the place... Please help me to save my body!! Also, since the birth of my son I only buy organic whole foods and seafood. HELP!!!!!!

    A:

Sorry for the delayed response! I am unfamiliar with New Jersey and holistic healers in this State. Check Black Web Portal (www.blackwebportal.com).

Yes, sounds like they missed one polyp! That's doctors for you though!

In re Fibroids, we have 3-week Fibroid Buster kit and regimen coming out early next month. I recommend this regimen for your fibroids.

Read our articles i.e. Fibroid Tumors, Sea Food:Bugs of the Ocean, etc. Great reading and very insightful information!

Q: I just started the Full Body Cleanse today! I reviewed the recipe section for ideas but I'm either allergic to the fruit or don't care for the vegetable. Based upon the Full Cleanse process, are there any other food combination or recipes I can do? I made the veggie shake but it was 'spicy' not sure why? Is there anything else I can add? I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

    A:

Could you explain a little further? What do you mean by allergic to the fruit? Do you have certain fruit allergies or getting a reaction to the fruit?

Changes in your body are going to occur. Know that your body builds up a culture of bacteria designed to digest your current diet. Your taste buds may have been hijacked by high fat, high sugar, high salt, chemically processed foods. It will take 3 days or more to begin the chance in culture. You will find as your body cleanses your taste buds will be significantly different.

Q: Hello, this is my 2nd time doing the full body cleanse. I did it last year so now I'm doing it again. I started on Monday 3/9 and since have lost 5 lbs. Is that normal? Also why do you recommend Distilled water and not Spring and/or filtered (Brita). I have always drank a lot of water but roughly how many times a day should I urinate and how many times a day should I make a BM? When I did it the first time last year it was late Spring early Summer and incorporated a lot of walking which helped out a lot. This time not so much due to the horrible NY weather. I would appreciate you answering my questions and getting back to me at your earliest convenience. Thanks

A: Everyone's body is different and responds to the regimen differently. Losing 5 pounds in days is okay. Distilled water is the best type of water that helps to detox the body. You should be drinking half your body weight in water. Anything you put into your body you can expect it to come out. Bowel movements and urination is directly related to the foods and beverages you're consuming. Be sure that you're consuming three regular meals a day; eating fruits and vegetables with fiber.

Q: Hello, I'm on day 3 of the FBC and I'm having a really hard time with sweets. It's even more trying because I work in a bakery which I cannot avoid because it is a family owned business and I, myself do a lot of the baking. What do you recommend to help seize my sweet craving besides fruit? Because it seems that I can eat fruit for substitution but after a while I still want to eat cake lol. Also, what brand alkaline water do you recommend? Is it best to drink the bottled water or make it? Thanking you in advance. D.Bolden

A: After a few days, your cravings will subside. If you feel like you need additional help with sugar cravings you can also try the Sugar Control. There are raw food desserts available in health stores like Whole Foods, raw food restaurants or raw desserts you can make. It would be best to purchase the alkaline water. Essentia, Nestle, Voss and Neo Water are some of the popular brands of alkaline water. Sugar Control - http://www.dherbs.com/store/sugar-Formula-p-63.html

Q: Fresh fruit is mentioned in the full body cleanse literature, but I didn't see anything about frozen fruit. Can I use frozen fruit during the fbc?

A: We don't recommend consuming foods that are frozen or canned. Consuming fresh foods is always best as you're only consuming foods that are alive and provide your body with a benefit.  There's no way of knowing the quality or state of the foods before its frozen or canned.

Q: I'm 17 years of age and go to a boarding high school in Florida. I just moved here from L.A. Over the summer. I've always been passionate about picking up valuable information that is not taught in schools. Even though I've always gotten good grades in all classes, I have always had a dislike for school. I feel like it is trapping me, because I have very little time to study topics that are truly beneficial such as law, herbs, history and many other topics. I just wanted to give you a brief background image of me; bottom line is this... I want to be part of what you are doing. I know you probably have so many positions filled. And I've never been materialistic and never liked school, but I also understand that if I want to get out in the world on my own right now I need to have a situation where I can make a sufficient amount of money to support myself. So I'm just letting you know I'm very passionate about helping people heal themselves and I would be very committed to what you are trying to accomplish in terms of healing people mentally and physically. I feel so thankful because most people don't get the opportunity to come across TRUE herbalism, TRU history, TRUE law, etc, until they are deep into adulthood, if ever. And I feel like I must fulfill my opportunity starting NOW. Because if I don't, I would be failing the mission I was incarnated here to do. Peace

    A:

Greetings, Beloved! You have recognized at a very young age that school is a waste of time as measured against the subjects of your heart. Make the time to study the topics of your interest. It's well worth it, Beloved! I did it for many years of my life and when I was out of school and got into knowledge, I spent almost whole days studying the interests of my desires which has led me to the life I am now living. I'm glad I followed my heart. In regards to Dherbs, unfortunately Beloved, I am an Inter-net company only and thus have no positions available. What is your zodiac sign? Maybe we can help you to find work that is suitable to your interests. Your 10th House explains the area's best for you work-wise. Hey, thanks for reaching out, Beloved! One day I would like to employ thousands of people. If you ever want to talk or need advice, give me a call!

Q: I'm doing the Full Body Cleanse and I have a few questions about it: I get tired of drinking just the distilled water and I'd like to drink the herbal teas, but I don't like it by itself. Would it mess things up to add a pack or two of Splenda to my tea or maybe honey? I can't stand the salads with the olive oil or apple cider vinegar or the lemon juice as dressing and it makes me gag. I have To have some sort of salad dressing. What kind would be suitable? Do I look for sugar-free? Or organic and natural? I found one that is organic and natural, but it has 3 grams of sugar in it. Without eating all my whole grained breads and other fiber, I haven't had much of a bowel movement in 3 days, should I wait a while yet? (I had surgery on my bowels and always had to take fiber tablets and eat lots of grains to get my bowels to move.) I haven't done the enemas yet, (low on money) should I try that? Or should I resume my fiber tablets I normally take? Any type of fiber I could add to my fruit smoothies in the morning? I want to also do the female cleanse. Is it ok to do that immediately after I finish the full body cleanse or should I wait for a little while? Thank you for all your help, I feel much better than I did before and I just started this detox a week ago, lost 10 pounds, too, woohoooooo! Thank you

    A:

    1. Instead of splenda, use agave, stevia, or grade b maple syrup as a sweetener.

    2. In re Salad Dressing, an organic and natural one is great. You can also check our website for salad dressing recipes.

    3. The fiber pills are not part of the cleanse, so we wouldn't advise those. Fruit is you best choice of fiber so look into eating more papaya, mango, figs, etc. And yes, colonics (and enemas) would greatly help you - undoubtedly!

    4. You can do the Female Cleanse right after you finish detoxing. There's no need to wait!

Q: I do not see much information on herbs for Lymes Disease? I was bitten by a tick last summer and have not felt the same since. My tests come back negative, but I read that Lymes tests are not reliable. Can you suggest a regimen for Lymes?

    A:

The Lymes Disease article will go up within a week. Stay abreast! First of all, herbs are not the best line of defense for the Lyme bug. It's an external problem so you need external measures (bathing in hot water, 2 boxes of sea salt added, 1 cup hydrogen peroxide). Do this for starters!
