Sweet Raw Yam Noodles with Mushrooms and Sesame Seeds

These Sweet Raw Yam Noodles were a quick dinner I just whipped up after a (strangely) long day. The recipe needs no pre-planning because I didn’t even know I was going to make it until I stepped into the kitchen and noticed we had yams. I was going to make a salad but then I’m like… “Hey, yams, you be lookin’ pretty fine today. I will spirooli you up and cover you in sweet miso sauce then put you in my mouth. What do you think?”

I love turning yams, bell peppers, carrots, and other willing veggies into spiralized goodness. It’s just so fun and you can be uber creative.

SWEET RAW YAM NOODLES WITH MUSHROOMS AND SESAME SEEDS

INGREDIENTS

For the Marinated Mushrooms
  • 4 mushrooms
  • 1 teaspoons sesame oil (optional but recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon tamari
For the Sweet Miso Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of nutritional yeast
  • 1 tablespoon agave/maple syrup/raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon miso
  • 1 tablespoons hummus (not raw, too bad)
  • 1 peeled garlic clove
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 3-5 tablespoons water, as needed
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
For the Yam Noodles
  • 1 peeled yam

PREPARATION

For the Marinated Mushrooms
  1. Slice them really thin then rub in the oil and tamari.
  2. Put them in a warm spot (I put them in my oven at its lowest temperature) and forget about them for a minute.
For the Sweet Miso Sauce
  1. Blend all ingredients except sesame seeds together until smooth.
  2. Add whatever else you want.
  3. Then toss in the sesame seeds by hand. Set aside.
For the Yam Noodles
  1. Put the yam through your spiral slicer (spirooli) or slice on a mandolin
  2. Then cover them with the sauce and them get to know each other for a few minutes.
  3. The noodles will soften and pick up more flavour.
  4. Now remember your marinating fungi friends being warmed somewhere?
  5. Add those on top, and sprinkle on some more sesame seeds and raisins. Yum. Yams, man.

Q: I just purchased the WEIGHT RELEASE CLEANSE AND REGIMEN and today is my first day. I'm unable to get through on our inquiry line. The diet isn't completely clear to me. Although it says miso soup is ok, I'm unclear on other things. For instance, is tofu ok? What about hummus? What do sprouted grains consist of? Would Eziekial sprouted grain breads and tortillas be ok? The miso soup is the exception to the dietary rule! NO tofu, NO Ezekiel grain breads (no processed grains at all). Sprouted grains are grains (or seeds) soaked in water overnight and consumed. They are not cooked! Hummus is okay (as it's not cooked). Q: I wrote to you a couple weeks ago asking if it was normal for me to have an outbreak only a day or two into the full body cleanse kit. You wrote back and told me that an outbreak is the body healing. It is two weeks later and I am still having an outbreak! Is this a good sign? Do you think this outbreak may continue on through my anti viral kit? I have been eating mostly fruits and vegetables, however I felt like I needed more substance and I was not enjoying my food at all... so I bought organic noodles and organic tomato sauce (sea salt only, tomatoes, no sugar, you get the point). Is adding some of this into my diet going to make the kits less effective or possibly not work?

    A:

The outbreak is a result of your body trying to eliminate the toxicity and impurities from your body. Continue to follow the guidelines of the Cleanse.

In regards to what you ate, YES, they make the cleanse less effective, so you may not want to eat much of cooked foods. Raw foods will optimize the cleanse. If you are having trouble staying full, try more healthy fats, like avocado, coconut cream, or raw nuts and seeds.

Q: Hello I am on day TWO of 10-DAY SUPREME COLON CLEANSE;. May I eat a half cup rolled organic rolled oats a day. I eat the oats to provide fuel just before my two hour core ,spinning and rowing class. May I continue to drink Ivy's drink ? It's 1 tablespoon of Spirulina Powder, 2 tablespoons Psyllium Husk , 2 tablespoons Aloe Vera 1/4 cup of apple juice and 2 tablets of 450 mg Cascara Sagrada ? Look forward to your response.

    A:

You are free to eat as you please via free will. But we suggest the eating recommendations for a reason. The oats are okay (except they create mucus) and the Ivy's Drink is okay (nothing adverse to the cleanse)and sounds like a pretty healthy tonic.

Q: Several people in the conscious community have stated that adding flax seeds and/or flax seed powder to our diet benefits the colon for complete and clean bowel movements. My question is, does flax seed powder or the seeds themselves promote parasites in the stomach and colon? A few of my friends and I have completed the parasite cleanse and got into a debate about it. Thank you very much, Hotep!

    A:

Flax seed undoubtedly helps the colon (due to fiberous nature) but it is absurd to think or suggest that flax seeds (in any form) promotes parasites. Meat, dairy, refined grains and other processed foods is what promotes parasites in the stomach, colon, and rest of the body. So, as Public Enemy would say: "Don't believe the hype!"

Q: I recently purchased your Parasite and Worm Kit and wanted to know what grains were good to eat during or after the cleanse. I eat Bulgur, brown rice, black rice, couscous, gold and brown flax seed and ground provisions i.e. yams, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, turnips and etc. Are these ok to eat during the Parasite and Worm Kit or after? Is apple cider or balsamic vinegar ok for consumption? My Queen and I look forward to removing all the parasites form our temple and projecting the increased vibration. Continue to shine the light.

    A:

Stay RAW while removing the parasites! If you stay mostly RAW, then on a few days you can engage yourself in some of the foods you mention below (maybe once a week)! But RAW is best! Apple Cider Vinegar is the BEST vinegar to use!

Q: I am on my 3rd day of the fully body cleansing. I am definitely doing this to lose weight. I am a 52 year old, black, Christian, wife, mother to 21 and 14 year old girls, legal secretary who is 450 lbs. I am to the point now where if I don't do this I'm going to be housebound. I can barely move some days that is why I started this because I feel so unhealthy. I have a question about the nuts. I got all gun-ho and ordered $135.00 worth of organic nuts from nuts.com. I got raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios and cashews and mixed them all up together (well I purchased 2 lbs of each but I only mixed up 1 lb of each together). Anyway, I was reading about how much calories are in nuts. Should I not pay attention to that because I was consuming a lot of calories in the first place or do I have to watch how many nuts I eat? I have put some nuts in a sandwich bags and basically filled it up and that is supposed to be my nuts ration for the day. I am also eating fruits and vegetables. So far the fruit have been grapes, grapefruit, red apples, pears, green apples and bananas. The vegetables have all been in a salad: tomatoes, celery spinach leaves, carrots, mixed in balsamic vinaigrette. I only ate the salad Monday night all the other times I have just eaten the fruit and nuts. I am also consuming approximately 75-100 oz of water. Sorry I’m long winded I just wanted you to get the entire picture.

    A:

Thanks for the question, I can definitely help you.

I am currently writing an eBook for www.dherbs.com called "Losing weight the healthy way." I have been a weight loss counselor for many years. I am also a health coach, personal trainer, bodymind nutritionist, and a vegan lifestyle coach.

When it comes to weight loss most programs want you to lose weight to get healthy. My mindset is to get healthy and lose weight.

In my health/fitness/nutrition coaching program www.theveganeffect.com I use a lowfat/high carb/ high raw/ nutrient dense/ high alkaline diet to achieve long term weight loss success. So far I am 100 percent in getting clients long lasting weight loss. If you are interested in my program please fill out the health history form on the side of the web page. We could have a free 1 hour initial consultation over skype to see how I can best help you.

Nuts are best kept to a minimum if you use them at all. Nuts are extremely high in fat and have the opposite omega 3- omega 6 ratio that is optimal for health. Seeds are best as far as ratios are concerned. Also nuts are truly easy to over eat and cause your nutrient ratios to be off.

A healthy vegan diet is a high raw fruitarian diet.

    Example:

Breakfast: green smoothie. (500-1000 calories of fruits blended with a handful of greens and water)

Bridge: Dates and strawberries (500 calories)

Lunch: Salad with low sugar fruits (cucumber, tomato, squash, bell peppers) topped with fruit, beans, psuedo grains,

    Bridge: 2-3 apples

Dinner: Raw wraps (collard greens) with low sugar fruit and tahini

    Snack: Sorbet

    Hope this helps

Q: I have ordered the detox cleanse, and the weight cleanse. Both state to eat a raw diet of veggies and fruit, nuts, nut pastes??, legume sprouts, seeds, plant oils, sea veggies??,and fresh juices. It mentions Vegan Diet. What are my options when it comes to these choices? What do I eat and how often to keep my sugar from dropping, and feeling sick? Usually mid am, and mid afternoon?

Q: Approximately two weeks ago, I developed dry, itchy patches on my back. Several things changed during this period, I started using Nubian Heritage Shea Butter soap, I starting the Full Body Detox, I received a deep tissue massage in which the primary focus was my back (olive oil mixed with sesame oil). Also I put Oxydrops, in Dherbs Hair Oil, and Healing Skin Oil. I used the Creativity and Abundance Elixirs. Do you think these changes have something to do with the dry itchy patched on my back?

    A:

Please read the article "Skin Disorder = Blood Disorder" in our articles section. It may be "healing crisis" if the problem started after using natural products.

Q: Hello, I'm on day 3 of the FBC and I'm having a really hard time with sweets. It's even more trying because I work in a bakery which I cannot avoid because it is a family owned business and I, myself do a lot of the baking. What do you recommend to help seize my sweet craving besides fruit? Because it seems that I can eat fruit for substitution but after a while I still want to eat cake lol. Also, what brand alkaline water do you recommend? Is it best to drink the bottled water or make it? Thanking you in advance. D.Bolden

A: After a few days, your cravings will subside. If you feel like you need additional help with sugar cravings you can also try the Sugar Control. There are raw food desserts available in health stores like Whole Foods, raw food restaurants or raw desserts you can make. It would be best to purchase the alkaline water. Essentia, Nestle, Voss and Neo Water are some of the popular brands of alkaline water. Sugar Control - http://www.dherbs.com/store/sugar-Formula-p-63.html

Q: My problem is after I've eaten, whether I've slipped and had a sandwich or something not raw, or whether I've had all raw vegetables - especially broccoli or cauliflower, I am clearing my throat for pretty much the rest of the day. If I'm munching on raw nuts and seeds - same thing. It feels almost like I didn't swallow fully, or like the food didn't go down all the way or something. It's annoying to me, and I know it's irritating to my co-workers. What herb can help with this? It's mucus, right? I am currently doing the weight release cleanse. I've already done the FULL BODY DETOX (I failed miserably at this.)

    A:

There is no such thing as failure! Start drinking more water and try drinking MUCUS BUSTER TEA while performing your cleanse. Stay positive!

    Q:

    A:

    Thanks for the question,

The answer is both. In different ways. Hemp is of course a great source of fat. It has a tremendous ratio of omega 3s to 6s. It helps rebuild muscle because it is anti inflammatory, It helps build muscle by being 33 percent protein by content and a great source of calories for fuel. It's probably best to take hemp seeds, protein powders, butters, oils with greens to enhance bio-availabity and useability. I use hemp seeds in my green smoothies and use a variety of other small seeds in my meals. I do not use oils of any kinds and nut/seed butters occasionally. I prefer not to use hemp protein powders just because I find them gritty in shakes and not the best tasting. There are plenty of other raw protein sources I find more palatable.

I run an online health/fitness coaching program if you are interested and am running a half of special at the moment. You can find more about the program at www.theveganeffect.com. I coach raw body builders if you are interested.

Q: I started the full body detox today, and found that I DO NOT like the salad dressing I made with the olive oil, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. I found I could not tolerate it on my salad. What can I do instead? Another question is... I noticed lentils on the food combining chart. Those have to be cooked. Are those actually allowed to be consumed warm? I love the raw fruits and vegetables. I don?t have a problem, cause I love salads. I just need help on what I can have on it.

    A:

Check out our website for raw salad dressing recipes. You are bound to find one you like.

As for lentils, you are NOT allowed to have them while on the cleanse.
