The 5 Medicinal Herbs that Will Give You Super Powers

Nature medicine . Herbs on wooden background .

A functional or medicinal herb is any herb that will have a direct impact on how you feel, by targeting a specific function, from your sleep cycle to your immune system. Those with particularly potent powers are dubbed ‘superherbs,’ and they pack a punch! The following 5 medicinal herbs will impact your body and your mind in incredible ways.

Just like superfoods, superherbs are more evasive and not something you can easily find at any ol’grocery store. They often aren’t readily available fresh, and are instead offered in powder, extract, or supplemental form. If you’re planning your spring garden, some of these are easily grown, too!

Superherbs: 5 Essential Medicinal Herbs

1. Echinacea

Echinacea is a group of flowers in the daisy family. They are found only in eastern and central North America. Echinacea targets the immune system and may help you to get rid of a cold. Native Americans used echinacea for numerous health woes. It has also been used to treat scarlet fever, syphilis, malaria, blood poisoning, and diphtheria. Today, it is used to shorten the duration of the common cold and flu and may help to reduce symptoms like a cough, sore throat, and fever.

2. Valerian

Valerian root is a perennial flowering plant that has sedative and anxiolytic properties. It acts as a natural sleeping remedy and much more natural than popping (addictive) sleeping pills. Studies show that valerian root can reduce the amount of time it takes you to fall asleep and also improve the quality of sleep thereafter. If you’ve expended all of your options and have tried everything but medication to fight insomnia or simply sleep better, consider valerian root.

3. Turmeric

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the same family as ginger and is native to southwest India. It is widely known as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent, which is the root cause of many diseases. It has been used to treat respiratory conditions, liver disorders, anorexia, rheumatism, diabetic wounds, runny nose, cough, and sinusitis. It is also used to treat sprains and swelling, digestive disorders, and weak circulation.

4. Gingko Biloba

Feeling slow and low? Gingko biloba may be the remedy you need. It is the only living species in the division Ginkgophyta, in which all other members are now extinct (ginkgo biloba is actually considered a “living fossil” for having survived several extinction periods). This product of the gingko tree is said to boost your energy levels by increasing the production of ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) at the cellular level. In doing so it improves thinking, memory, and behavior. It also reduces anxiety and improves sexual energy.

5. Milk Thistle

Native to the Mediterranean region, milk thistle is part of the same flower family as sunflowers and daisies. It has been used for 2,000 years to treat liver, kidney, and gall bladder problems. It protects the liver from toxins and helps the liver to repair itself by growing new cells. These reasons make milk thistle great for treating a hangover or an essential tool in weaning off of antibiotics or other medications. Some studies suggest milk thistle is effective in stopping cancer cells from dividing and reproducing as well as in shortening the lifespan of cancer cells and reducing the blood supply to tumors.

Q: How long does it take for Gingko Biloba to start thinning the blood for those who want to get off of blood thinners? My friend is on blood thinners. He would like to make the switch, but fear the Gingko Biloba may not work fast enough in case of a blood clot, or heart attack occurring. Can he start taking the both for maybe 2 or three days then completely get off the thinners?

    A:

The person perhaps shouldn't even consider Gingko due to the fear which is damnable. When people are in fear I usually tell them to do what makes them feel good, and remove the fear because if a person does something in the face of fear and a bad reaction occurs, the fear won't get the blame. The herb or other natural thing will. However, for blood thinning effects of Gingko Biloba, take 9-12 capsules throughout the day, i.e. 3 capsules every 3-4 hours.

Q: You said to get the FULL BODY DETOX and milk thistle seed tea for someone with hepatitis C, but on your site I don't see the milk thistle seed tea listed under hepatitis C, one more thing would you take the same for hep. C as you would for hep. A or B, I am just trying to be sure before I get this started.

    A:

FOLLOW THE ADVICE IN THE ARTICLE AS WELL. PERFORM THE FULL BODY DETOX FIRST AND THEN CONTINUE WITH THE MAINTENANCE FORMULAS (LIVER AND GALLBLADDER FORMULA, VITAMIN C FORMULA, ETC.). HOWEVER, THE MILK THISTLE TEA IS GREAT FOR ALL LIVER CONDITIONS AND HEPATITIS FALLS IN THIS CATEGORY. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF THE HEPATITIS IS A, B, OR C. IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THE LIVER AND SO THE LIVER NEEDS TO BE CLEANSED AND DETOXIFIED.

However, she still experience palpitation + mild seizure (raising of hands) every morning upon waking up. She experience mild fits once a day usually in her sleep/nap and get a severe seizure once every 10-12 days also during her sleep/nap. She was also diagnosed as Asperger Syndrome when she was seven and has improved considerably but not able to focus and easily get irritated. She likes to flipflop her hands a lot and always in wonderland during class. Not able to understand and totally lost in class though she has a very good memory. I also bring her to temple every week to pray and seek spiritual guidance and apply Reiki to her everyday. At present I just do not know what else to do to control her seizure and morning palpitation. Will Epson salt bath help in her epilepsy and anise powder water help in her palpitation. Your guidance and help is much appreciated.

    A:

Something is going on while she's sleeping (visiting another realm). It sounds like it could be something from a past-life. Consider placing crystals near her bed and under pillow. Crystals such as amethyst, selenite, angelite, quartz, turquoise, black tourmaline, pink or purple lepidolite, lapis lazuli, sodalite, etc.

Q: I heard about Hoodia on the TODAY show on NBC. It's supposed to suppress your appetite for weight loss. I have printed wikepedia for a more formal definition. It's supposed to be natural. Hoodia is a genus of 13 species in the flowering plant family Apocynaceae, under the subfamily Asclepiadoideae. [1] They are stem succulents, described as "cactiform" because of their remarkable similarity to the unrelated cactus family. They can reach up to 1mhigh and have large flowers, often with flesh colour and strong smell. Many Hoodia species are protected plants, typical of the Namib Desert, ranging from Central Namibia to southern Angola, especially in plains and rocky areas. Common names include "Bushman's Hat" and "Queen of the Namib". Several species are grown as garden plants, and one species, Hoodia gordonii, is being investigated for use as an appetite suppressant.

    A:

Suppression is not cure or healing! You can't solve a problem by suppressing it! A suppressed appetite will manifest in some other area, i.e., an enormous appetite for sex, shopping, drugs, etc. Just because a thing is natural doesn't mean you are addressing the root of the problem, Beloved! It's much deeper than suppressing!

Q: Sir, as an African male who believes using the herbs directly. How can supplements suffice instead of the direct use of the plant source, such as milk thistle (silybum marianum), known as silymarin? Just like the ("so called)" vitamin supplements. Is there a subtitute for the real herb, fruit, and vegetable?

    A:

Herbs are are plants, just pulverized and powdered. We don't call our herbs supplements. Herbs are food and you can't supplement food, Beloved! There is no substitute for a real food, Beloved! Only the real thing!

Q: I have been a heavy smoker for eight years and I recently felt the cigarettes start taking a toll on me. Three weeks ago I started having this irritating throat ache, so I starting skipping a few cigarettes. The more smokes I skipped the more I felt my throat getting better. Shortly after I started back smoking heavily again I experienced bronchitis/pneumonia symptoms. Such as Fevers, Soar and swollen throat, congestion, wet coughs, loss of appetite, and a few other symptoms. I immediately stopped smoking. It’s been 6 days now and my symptoms have decreased, but I am getting these nasty night sweats. I am waking up at least 4 or five times a night drenched in sweat. I feel it could be a number of things causing the night sweats such as nicotine withdrawals, my body's immune system going to work and sweating out toxins, and a number of other reasons. I would like to hear your expert opinion on why you think I am experiencing these sweat episodes, that sometimes happened in the day too. Also I took one capsule of Super Milk Thistle 3 days ago.

    A:

It's plain and simple: HEALING CRISIS (withdrawal).

Q: A polyp was found inside my gall bladder, a little over a centimeter, and the doctors want to remove the gall bladder, because it may be cancerous. I have hepatitis C, and with the removal of the gall bladder affect my liver function more, or cause digestive problems. Are there any herbs that can dissolve polyps in the gall bladder? And help with the hepatitis C?

    A:

Any organ removed that you were born with will impair your health. To take care of the gallbladder, perform the Full Body Cleanse followed by the 10 Day Liver Cleanse. While cleansing drink 2 cups of our Liver, Gallbladder and Sleen Tea. Once you are done cleansing start a daily regimen consisting of the Liver and Gallbladder and Vitamin C Formula.

Q: I have a question about the "Nerves" Supplement. How do I take this 3X per day without getting sleepy? Since the main ingredient is Valerian root. Do I take all 3 capsules before bed time to avoid this, and does it matter whether I take all 3 at the same time? I'm confused since one of the reviews speaks of taking it as a sleep aid.

    A:

Simply take all 3 capsules before bed time, or one capsules every 3-4 hours. It's only a sleep aid if the capsules are taken before bedtime.

Q: I've ordered the 20 day body cleanse for my husband who has been diagnose with (RCC) Renal Cell Cancer which is in the kidney & spread to the Right lung and liver. They were going to take the kidney out today but could not because the right lung has filled with fluid it is being drained now they have started on the chemo pill SUNITINIB I've told the Dr. about the dherbs pills he said it was fine for him to take them along with the chemo pill he's has been on raw for 12 days also taking 2ounces of pure wheat grass a day is there anything else he can take to kill the cancer cells in the lung and liver?

    A:

The chemo pill is not going to help him because it's a poison - his body won't recognize it! He'd do fine with just the raw foods, wheat grass, and FULL BODY DETOX herbs. But it is your choice to do whatever you are going to do. Cells become cancerous because of starvation of OXYGEN. He should add 30 drops of OXY-DROPS to every glass of drinking water.?

From the articles I read, it seems like if you have an alkaline body with only a little acid you can't get sick. Is this true? The coughing, runny nose, and tiredness is just excess mucus right? So no mucus no cold right?

    A:

CORRECT! AND ALSO THAT YOU LIVE NATURAL. A COLD CAN ALSO DENOTE THAT YOU NEED TO REST! DOING TOO MUCH CAN WEAKEN THE IMMUNE SYSTEM.

Q: Members of my house have started drinking Hemp Milk and Rice Milk. No more Cow Milk! We like the taste of both. I also like the fact that the hemp milk has omega and other nutrients in it. However, my son is three years old and we have discovered he is allergic to nuts because a family member gave him a cashew to eat, then his eyes began to swell up like Garfield the cat. I had him tested for food allergies and the test revealed he is allergic to nuts and soy. So I don't give him any nut products or soy products. My question for you is: "Is hemp a nut or a seed, is the hemp milk derived from a nut or a seed???" I need to know other alternatives if in fact it is a nut. I do not want to give him something toxic to him.

    A:

Hemp is a seed, not a nut, so hemp seed milk is okay for him.

    Nuts cashews - peanuts, soy

    Grains - rice, oats

Fruit - almond, coconut, banana, date

Hey, I'll do an article that will be up on Dherbs early next week!

    Peace and Love!

I lost too much. I am now having trouble with regaining my appetite and I wanted to know if you had anything that would help to stimulate my appetite. I went to an herb shop here where I live and she gave me milk thistle. That did not work. My doctor has tried to give me 2 different medications to help but they did not work. One was periactin and the other was an antidepressant, which I probably need but because I am kind have depressed about my weight loss and how I look. If you could please let me know if you have anything that will help, or know of anything else out there for this problem I Would greatly appreciate it.

    A:

LOOK INTO OUR OREXIS FORMULA. YOU CAN FIND IT IN OUR ON-LINE STORE. I ALSO THINK ONCE YOU DETOXIFY YOUR BODY THIS WILL ALSO HELP YOUR APPETITE TO RETURN. YOU MAY BE AFRAID OF DETOXING FOR FEAR OF LOSING WEIGHT AND IF THIS IS THE CASE, AND THEN JUST CONCENTRATE ON THE OREXIS FORMULA.

Q: My mother has just found out from a blood test that Hep C was found in her liver/ blood. We are believers in Jesus Christ and His Word, so we don't like to speak negative words that are contrary to what we believe and hope to manifest from the spiritual into the natural. The condition of her liver is to the point that her skin has erupted from head to toe with blisters, rash, etc. We have always been herb heads and into natural healing. We have read your article on Hepatitis and I found it to be a true answer to prayer, you described my mother to a T. This information has helped me to better understand my mother and have compassion toward her negative attitude she struggles with, so I am grateful to you for that.

    A:

Hepatitis C is easy to knock out! She just needs to detox with the FULL BODY DETOX and drink Milk Thistle and Dandelion Root tea.

    A:

As much as they want to! It's an herb! You can't overdose!
