The Best Hummus Recipe Ever with White Beans and Roasted Garlic

This creamy white bean hummus bursts with freshly roasted garlic flavor. Serve it with pita chips and fresh vegetables for a healthy delectable appetizer. Use white cannellini beans instead of chickpeas and olive oil instead of tahini for the best hummus recipe you’ve ever made. This one is creamy and especially smoky, combining the rich flavors of roasted garlic and smoked sea salt. Smoked sea salt is one of those ingredients worth investing in. It adds barbecue-like flavor to vegetables and meats without the hassle of outdoor grilling. You can find smoked sea salt in many specialty grocery stores for under $10.00.

Traditional Middle Eastern hummus is made with chickpeas and tahini, a paste made from pressed sesame seeds. Tahini gives humus that amazing creamy texture we all love so much but by mixing olive oil with soft cannellini beans you’ll achieve next-level creaminess.

Serve this dip with homemade pita or naan bread, or a selection of cut vegetables; Cauliflower and grape tomatoes are especially delicious.

White Bean Hummus with Roasted Garlic

Makes 1 ½ cups

Ingredients

14 oz. cooked cannellini beans
¼ cup olive oil + 1 teaspoon to drizzle
1 head of garlic
1 teaspoon fresh oregano, finely chopped (substitute dried if necessary)
½ teaspoon smoked sea salt (substitute regular salt if necessary)
1 teaspoon ice cold water
1 teaspoon pine nuts (optional)
1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Wrap the garlic in aluminum foil and roast, directly on the oven rack for 25 minutes. Allow the garlic to cool and then gently remove two of the cloves from the skin. Reserve the rest of the clove for another use.

Drain the liquid from the cooked or canned cannellini beans and rinse the beans in cold water. Add to a bowl with two roasted garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon oregano and ½ teaspoon smoked sea salt. Toss with a fork to combine.

Transfer the bean mixture to the bowl of a food processor and add half the oil. Blend for ten seconds, then add the rest of oil and 1 teaspoon cold water, blend for another 5 seconds. Spoon into a shallow bowl and drizzle 1 teaspoon of olive oil on top as well as paprika and pine nuts.

Q: I read on your website that you can naturally dissolve plaque through the 10 Day Electric Green Cell Food Cleanse. My question is, if I were to eat pure organic spirulina, teaspoon after teaspoon throughout everyday. Would that dissolve arterial plaque? What would this do?

    A:

It would help undoubtedly, but not to the degree of our cleanse.

Q: I noticed the CARDIO-VASCULAR FORMULA contains garlic. My partner would like to participate in the detox program with me, but she has allergies to garlic that make her very sick. Her allergist told her that dried herbs have less of an effect because of the processing. Do you think it would be safe to take, considering this is the only compound in the program that contains garlic? I assume it is a small amount and may not have a negative impact.

    A:

THE FORMULA IS BALANCED WITH OTHER HERBS AND IS NOT EXCLUSIVELY GARLIC, WHICH SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM. SHE'LL BE FINE!

Q: Have you heard that drinking beet juice with a table or teaspoon of black strap molasses gets rid of fibroids? Beet juice purifies the blood. But, this has to be done everyday.

A: Beet juice is a great blood purifier and excellent for supplementary use. But in order to fully eliminate fibroids, you should consider performing the Fibroid Cleanse, as it naturally works to strengthen and purify the female reproductive system while helping with the reduction of fibroids.

Q: Dear herbalist, I would like to know if it's alright for me to alternate cod liver oil pill (omega 3) in between taking the blood and lymph cleanse. I use to have beautiful skin until spring of this year. Also I want to know if taking teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil is good for healing me of what I believe may be vitiligo, tenea vesicle or eczema (dermatitis). PLEASE HELP.

    A:

Cod liver oil is crap! Olive oil is healthy and good for you. To repair the skin, focus on cleansing your blood (FULL BODY DETOX, vegetable juice, etc.). Check out our new article "SKIN DISORDER = BLOOD DISORDER".

Q: I would like to know if what I'm doing is okay. This is way before we found dherbs site and the products on the internet. We read on the internet that drinking a teaspoon of natural black sea salt or any sea salt in 32oz warm water every morning is good for bowel movement. We have been doing it for awhile now. Is it too much to take it with your products? I lost some weight after my FULL BODY DETOX but not too much on my stomach. What do you recommend l should use to get rid of the tummy area? I bought FIBROID BUSTER TEA I am I drinking it because l feel there is Fibroids down there. Should l also continue taking my BUNNY RABBIT formula with Fibroid tea? In my last email l mentioned my husband had mild stroke. Now he's having spasms all over his body especially when he's sleeping at night. Why is he having it and what else can he use for that? We are using all these wonderful products on the inside and still have un-even skin. Is it okay to use AMBI products for more youthful skin then detox every four months? If not, when are we going to see your skin products on the market?

    A:

We don't recommend the drinking of sea salt. For tummy reduction: exercise (perform abs, sit ups) and take BOWEL MOVER and WEIGHT RELEASE FORMULA. You can take your herbs and tea together. No big deal! Spasms? Clearly the â€HEALING CRISIS†(read the article by this same title). The skin will improve in time. Don't focus on it!

Q: What organic shampoo and conditioner would you recommend using? Also, while detoxing, is Navy beans an acceptable food to eat if I want something cooked or does it cause mucus? Is it really a nutritional bean?

    A:

Aubrey Organic is a good brand of shampoo and conditioner.

You may eat navy beans but they are mucus forming despite a few nutritional benefits.

Q: Is sea salt and warm water a good natural laxative? If so how often do you recommend the use of sea salt for elimination? I was reading The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs and it gives this recommendation, along with drinking lemon water mixed with organic syrup and cayenne pepper. Is it safe to give myself an enema 2xs per day using a hot water bottle filled with fresh squeezed organic lemon and distilled water? Asking this because Bzod had me to listen to 88.3 today here in Cincinnati and the guy (Mike) was telling how he does this regularly and has great results.

    A:

Yes, sea salt in water is a mild laxative!

You can do it as often as you FEEL the need to drink or take it.

You can also consume the Master Cleanse (cayenne, maple syrup, lemon juice) if you choose. You can drink this as much as you like depending on how you feel.

And yes, you can perform enemas 2X a day! Enemas are very helpful for health!

Q: Thank you for always answering my questions. I have about two more. Okay, I'm currently living overseas where I'm limited on raw fresh foods (vegetables and fruits). I want to do the detox but I'm concerned that I won't have everything as far as raw food to be successful. I have access to basics (apples, oranges, bananas, tomatoes, avocados, melons, lettuce, cabbage, bean spouts, carrots, celery, peppers, green beans, peas, bagged nuts,) but nothing exotic by any means. Then I was told to safely eat some of the food in the local economy that we should wash it with a 5% bleach solution (is that safe...and if on the detox I'm thinking that would be a no go). Two questions?Given the mentioned availability of raw foods could I be able to successfully complete the detox (I don't have an issue with eating the same things over and over again) and two what can I do to clean local produce so that its safe for consumption? Apparently part of the issue is that they use human feces to fertilize. Thank you for your time and I look forward to your response

    A:

Yes, it seems you have enough raw food available to you to complete the cleanse.

In order to clean local produce, rinse thoroughly with apple cider vinegar to "disinfect" it. If apple cider vinegar is unavailable, just use water.

Q: I have a question for you. I love reading your articles and I was reading about the importance of iodine in a vegan diet. I am vegan and I'm scared I'm getting iodine and you wrote that seaweed would fulfill that need. Did you mean Sushi seaweed, the roasted nori kind? Or fresh seaweed? I haven't been able to find fresh seaweed anywhere, except for already prepared seaweed salad. Also, how would you suggest I use the roasted nori seaweed? In smoothies? Because by itself it does not taste good.

    A:

No! Not fresh water seaweed. But seaweed sold in a health food store. One in a bottle. Try Dulse, Kelp, Spiriulina, or even Dherbs Iodine Phosphate formula.

Q: I started the full body detox today, and found that I DO NOT like the salad dressing I made with the olive oil, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. I found I could not tolerate it on my salad. What can I do instead? Another question is... I noticed lentils on the food combining chart. Those have to be cooked. Are those actually allowed to be consumed warm? I love the raw fruits and vegetables. I don?t have a problem, cause I love salads. I just need help on what I can have on it.

    A:

Check out our website for raw salad dressing recipes. You are bound to find one you like.

As for lentils, you are NOT allowed to have them while on the cleanse.

Q: Thanks for the great web site! MY question is what's the best way to get sodium. I thought un-refined sea salt was the best, but the salt article says "eat this salt only if you must." The great thing about pure sea salt is that it all or almost all the minerals the body needs! So what's the best way to get all the mineral and to stay in balance? Also is there a way to get Epsom salt that is sodium sulfate not magnesium sulfate? Is it a good idea to bath in the "good" Epsom salt.

    A:

    You're welcome, Beloved!

The best way to get sodium is via vegetables (i.e. celery).

Sea salt is great source of sodium, but its a secondary source as it has to be processed from ocean water. Absent the process, it would not be available.

But it does provide minute amounts of trace elements.

In re Epsom salt, I haven't been able to find the sodium one.

I stopped using Epsom salt many years ago.

You could bath in the good Epsom salt, but sea salt is far better and more natural.

Q: It's been 2 weeks now since, I started eating exclusively raw. I'm even baking whole wheat bread in the sun. This was a great substitute for the cooked rice I used to eat. I'm also eating quite a large amount of grapes (red and white), as my body seems to ask for it. But recently, I noticed that my heart is beating quite strongly, and I find difficulty to bear the hot weather as a consequence. Also, I noticed a white pimple on the tip of my tongue, and this was a confirmation that there was maybe too much stimulating energy in the heart (according to oriental diagnosis of the tongue). When I eat sun baked bread, I automatically feel heat in the body. So I'm wondering if this is a good food to continue with or not. Isn't it more "neutral" (in terms of energy) to include a small portion of cooked brown rice along with the raw regimen? Just want remind you of my health issue: HPV and bacteria in the urinary tract.

    A:

Greetings! No need to feel helpless. Feeling is very powerful and you will attract more of what you are feeling if you don't control your feeling. Please consider ordering and READING (digesting) our "Mental Science Manual" and "The Love Manual" e-books. If you had sex with the guy who cheated on you, you ignited stored residual feelings from the initial violation of your trust. Forgive yourself (and him) and move on. Okay, as far as the sun baked bread, LISTEN to your body. If you're feeling heat, it's stimulating. Cut back on eating this bread. Go back to a little brown or wild rice (very balancing). Remember to detoxify your body periodically! Full Body Detox and Anti-Viral Formula.

Q: I just purchased the WEIGHT RELEASE CLEANSE AND REGIMEN and today is my first day. I'm unable to get through on our inquiry line. The diet isn't completely clear to me. Although it says miso soup is ok, I'm unclear on other things. For instance, is tofu ok? What about hummus? What do sprouted grains consist of? Would Eziekial sprouted grain breads and tortillas be ok? The miso soup is the exception to the dietary rule! NO tofu, NO Ezekiel grain breads (no processed grains at all). Sprouted grains are grains (or seeds) soaked in water overnight and consumed. They are not cooked! Hummus is okay (as it's not cooked). Recommended article: "WHAT IS RAW FOODS" Visit our articles section!

Like white rice with black bean sauce, spinach, and pasta at time's I'll eat some Chinese fried rice, veggie roll, steamed vegetables, any advice?

    A:

You can eat cooked food as much as you like. However, try to incorporate as many nutrient-dense raw foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, raw nuts and seeds, into your diet to make sure you are receiving an adequate amount of nutrients.

Q: Dasani water, if I remember correctly, was banned from the U.K. It contains salt as well as potassium chloride. Essentia contains calcium chloride, as well as sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulfate, dipotassium phosphate. Are all the ingredients in Essentia safe? One would have do an independent test on the water. Dasani is crap and I no longer drink Essentia but it would be my brand of choice of bottled water if I was to purchase water again.

    A:

Personally I have an alkaline-antioxidant water machine (Neptune brand) that produces alkaline, antioxidant, oxygenate, mineralized water that is made in Asia.

Q: My husband has Sickle Cell Disease. What do you suggest for reversing his condition. Also, can any herbs be smoked? If the herbs are smoked, do they have the same healing effects compared to eating or drinking them?

    A:

Please read our article "Sickle Cell Anemia and Crisis" on our site under "Articles." Everything you need to know is there, including herbs to take for the condition.

Dherbs doesn't recommend the smoking of herbs. Some people smoke herbs, i.e. marijuana, hops, etc., but smoke has no place in the human body. Many people smoke marijuana and claim healing benefits. Strangely, they continue smoking marijuana after their so-called healing. I don't think marijuana heals because if it heals, why do people continue to smoke it? I think people just like the feeling of getting high.

Do as you please as far as dressing goes! Just stay away from harmful ingredients! Mrs. Dash, seasonings, Olive Oil,
