What would people eat if they knew nothing of the temptations of freshly baked pastries and junk foods?
According to Esther Hicks, the inspirational speaker of Abraham-Hicks that aims to instill messages of health and positivity to the masses, people would just crave “natural things.” No GMOs, no processed foods, no preservatives. Sorry, fast food restaurants and potato chip commercials.
But because humans do possess an awareness of outside factors like the lure of certain smells or food textures, they often give in to cravings and set off a vicious cycle that Hicks says puts the body in overdrive. This makes it harder for the body to fend off the bad substances while at the same time leading it to crave more of the unhealthy foods.
To make matters worse, research has shown that people may have an intense cravings for bad foods when they are deficient in certain minerals like magnesium (chocolate cravings) or nitrogen (refined carb cravings).
To stay on track, Hicks suggests maintaining an awareness that everyone inherently craves, at the most basic level, natural and healthy foods.
Sorting through the labels: what’s meant by natural, anyway?
While natural and organic are often used interchangeably among many people, it’s important to clarify that there are differences between the two. In Hicks’ case, natural is meant to convey foods that are healthy and not processed. In other words, it’s important to choose pears over pizza or pork loin.
However, it’s necessary to be privy about what constitutes natural and what does not. A person may know what’s best for them, but a fine line exists between the clever ad agency folks who are involved with food branding and the labeling guidelines set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Consumers may end up confused. For example, the FDA considers “natural” as something void of artificial flavors, added color or synthetic substances. However, a food may be considered natural by the FDA even it has growth hormones in it.
Choosing 100 percent organic foods is always the best way to ensure that a person is eating healthy foods. Enjoying a wide variety of whole foods primarily consisting of fruits and vegetables provides optimal health that’s in line with what the body naturally craves.
