Last Minute All Natural Cleaning Hacks

Most commercial cleaning products contain chemicals that can harm the body. Even if you are wearing gloves and avoiding eye contact with the products you use, the chemicals can land on your skin or you can inhale them without even knowing it. Since the skin is the largest organ in the body, the chemicals are easily absorbed via the skin and can then wreak havoc inside the body. Rather than poisoning your house with chemicals, use the following natural cleaning solutions below.

Microwave Cleaner

While we don’t condone the usage of microwaves, we aren’t oblivious to the fact that many people have them. Rather than spraying cleaning products in your microwave, use this handy little trick.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup water
  • juice of 1 lemon

Instructions:

  • Add the water and lemon juice to a glass bowl; place the lemon halves in the bowl as well. Microwave this for three minutes and then wait five minutes before removing the bowl.
  • Remove the bowl and then wipe down the inside of the microwave with a wet sponge. It’ll be spotless!

Rusty Sink & Hard Water Stain Removal

If you have rust or hard water stains on your sink, it’s time to start using this cleaning hack. It is so easy and works amazingly!

Ingredients:

  • 1 grapefruit
  • sea salt

Instructions:

  • Slice the grapefruit in half and coat each side in sea salt. Scrub this on any rusty or dirty areas on your sink or faucet and then rinse away with water. Be prepared to see what a clean sink looks like!

Cutting Board Deep Cleaner

Your wooden cutting board can have bacterial build-up in the cut grooves if you don’t clean it well. To help you deep clean your cutting board, use this natural solution.

Ingredients:

  • ½ a lemon
  • coarse sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil

Instructions:

  • Sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of coarse sea salt on your wooden cutting board. Take your lemon half, flesh side down, and scrub your cutting board for about 30 seconds.
  • Wipe away with a paper towel and then spoon coconut oil on the cutting board. In the direction of the grain, wipe with a sponge and then stow it away.

Lime Build-Up Be Gone

Do you have lime build-up in your shower or bathroom sink/faucet? If you do, you are going to love this hack because it is so effective and easy.

Ingredients:

  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Ziploc bags (for showerheads or faucets)

Instructions:

  • For showerheads/faucets: Fill a Ziploc bag halfway with white vinegar. Enclose the showerhead/faucet in the bag and make sure it is soaking in vinegar. Seal with a rubber band and let sit overnight. Remove in the morning, scrub with a toothbrush, and rinse with water.
  • For drains: Plug the drain in the sink and pour about ½ cup white vinegar in. Let sit overnight and scrub with a toothbrush before draining. Rinse and look at the shine!

Ingredients:

  • 1 part distilled white vinegar
  • 1 part water
