Here’s Why You’ll Fall In Love With Hemp Hearts

hemp-heart-in-heart-plate

Hemp hearts have recently taken center stage in the health food world because of their incredible nutritional profile. Their omega-3 and protein content is comparable to flaxseeds and chia seeds and much like chia seeds, they can form a gel-like substance when mixed with liquid.

Note: Although hemp seeds come from the Cannabis sativa plant, you will not experience a mind-altering effect after eating them.

What Are Hemp Hearts?

Hemp hearts are the edible insides of hemp seeds. They are rich sources of soluble and insoluble fiber, calcium, iron, and vitamins A, B1, B2, D, and E. Don’t think that we forgot about the omega-3 fatty acid and protein content in hemp hearts! The omega-3s work to repair muscles and joints, and the protein is easily absorbed and used by the body. The protein is also hypoallergenic, making it a great replacement of soy and peanuts.

Great For Cellular Health:

The complete protein and fatty acids in hemp hearts work to encourage cellular development and recovery. The fatty acids help carry oxygen to cells throughout the entire body. When cells are sufficiently oxygenated, they have a better chance of fighting off fungi, bacteria, and viruses.

They Protect The Brain:

According to a study that was published in Food Chemistry, hemp seed extract contains powerful antioxidant effects, which may be attributed to the cannabidiol (CBD) content. Many studies have concluded that CBD has anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. The antioxidants from hemp seed extract may benefit those with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or Alzheimer’s disease.

Energy Boosters:

The complex carbohydrates that work to balance blood sugar levels, in addition to the protein and calories, in hemp hearts help to energize you for a long time. People commonly reach for sugary foods like processed energy bars with saturated fats to fuel them between meals. Hemp hearts don’t have unnecessary fillers; rather, they increase energy levels without the aid of caffeine or sugar.

They Reduce Muscle Cramps:

Magnesium has been known to reduce muscle cramps and headaches. Because you can lose magnesium via sweat (common among athletes), it is beneficial to eat magnesium-rich foods. If you frequently exercise, add some hemp hearts to your post-workout smoothies to prevent cramps. Hemp hearts also help to repair bodily tissues, due to the manganese, zinc, and iron content.

They May Reduce Inflammation:

Consuming too many omega-6 fatty acids and too few omega-3s in can contribute to inflammation. Hemp seeds, however, have an incredible balance of omega-3s and omega-6s. The omega-6 known as GLA works to decrease inflammation, and may even help relieve symptoms of eczema, atopic dermatitis, and acne. GLA has even been referred to as an anti-inflammatory massager!

Q: Members of my house have started drinking Hemp Milk and Rice Milk. No more Cow Milk! We like the taste of both. I also like the fact that the hemp milk has omega and other nutrients in it. However, my son is three years old and we have discovered he is allergic to nuts because a family member gave him a cashew to eat, then his eyes began to swell up like Garfield the cat. I had him tested for food allergies and the test revealed he is allergic to nuts and soy. So I don't give him any nut products or soy products. My question for you is: "Is hemp a nut or a seed, is the hemp milk derived from a nut or a seed???" I need to know other alternatives if in fact it is a nut. I do not want to give him something toxic to him.

    A:

Hemp is a seed, not a nut, so hemp seed milk is okay for him.

    Nuts cashews - peanuts, soy

    Grains - rice, oats

Fruit - almond, coconut, banana, date

Q: I'm preparing to make the hemp seed infant milk recipe. Would I need to add Moringa Seed and/or Iodine Phosphate to your recipies? Also, could I freeze this Hemp seed milk and use later?

    A:

Yes, add Moringa and Iodine Phosphate to it (for nutritional purposes). And yes, you could freeze it the milk and use later, though fresh is always best.

Q: Can I continue to take my organic hemp protein?

    A:

You can consume organically natural hemp protein while on the cleanses, however we prefer to let the herbs work on it's own. A lot of people feel like they need an additional amount of protein while on the cleanse, but the best source of protein is within the foods we consume.

    Q:

    A:

    Thanks for the question,

The answer is both. In different ways. Hemp is of course a great source of fat. It has a tremendous ratio of omega 3s to 6s. It helps rebuild muscle because it is anti inflammatory, It helps build muscle by being 33 percent protein by content and a great source of calories for fuel. It's probably best to take hemp seeds, protein powders, butters, oils with greens to enhance bio-availabity and useability. I use hemp seeds in my green smoothies and use a variety of other small seeds in my meals. I do not use oils of any kinds and nut/seed butters occasionally. I prefer not to use hemp protein powders just because I find them gritty in shakes and not the best tasting. There are plenty of other raw protein sources I find more palatable.

I run an online health/fitness coaching program if you are interested and am running a half of special at the moment. You can find more about the program at www.theveganeffect.com. I coach raw body builders if you are interested.

Q: I just ordered the FULL BODY DETOX and I know there's a dietary regimen that I will have to follow. I was wondering if you would approve of a protein shake that consist of (raw hemp protein powder, raw almond butter, sea salt, flax seed, 100% young coconut water & meat inside the coconut, raw carob powder,) (optional soy or rice milk or soy or rice cream)

    A:

Doesn't sound like it will mess up your FULL BODY DETOX. Go for it! But leave out the rice/soy cream! The rice milk is okay (but it is processed/cooked)!

Q: I see also that you recommend a complete diet with these programs. I am guessing its a vegan diet right? I wanted to ask something on that is coconut milk and coconut oils ok for that? I personally had a very hard time trying to eat that many vegetables and many ph balance vegans seem to think fruits aren?t good either. I eat that many vegetables one it tears me up the next day and two I just cant consume enough calories that way. I can try and make up for it by eating things like almonds but I eat to many almonds I get the same problem the next day. Now coconut milk (unsweetened) and a digestive enzyme works for me for picking up extra calories.... but I hear very conflicting information about coconut and its saturated fat content. Is it ok to use daily as a part of the diet for cleansing? And your oxy-drops are those the same as the drop for ph balancing water?? Or is it something different? I am wanting to start lifting weights as I need to put on some muscle and I?m wondering if its something that would be beneficial in combating muscle soreness by increased oxygen in the body.

    A:

The diet we recommend is vegan-based, and RAW FOODS. Fresh fruits, vegetables, raw nuts and seeds are ideal.

Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil are excellent products to have in your diet. The healthy fats will keep you fuller.

Oxy-Drops can help balance your electrolytes that need to be replenished after a workout in order to keep your body performing efficiently.

Q: Several people in the conscious community have stated that adding flax seeds and/or flax seed powder to our diet benefits the colon for complete and clean bowel movements. My question is, does flax seed powder or the seeds themselves promote parasites in the stomach and colon? A few of my friends and I have completed the parasite cleanse and got into a debate about it. Thank you very much, Hotep!

    A:

Flax seed undoubtedly helps the colon (due to fiberous nature) but it is absurd to think or suggest that flax seeds (in any form) promotes parasites. Meat, dairy, refined grains and other processed foods is what promotes parasites in the stomach, colon, and rest of the body. So, as Public Enemy would say: "Don't believe the hype!"

Q: My question is regarding fibroids. I have been told I have had fibroids about the size of someone 3 months pregnant. I have been told there are two in clusters. They gave me the diameters, but I don't have that information at this time. My OB/GYN has told me he believes it is causing me to be slightly anemic. I have been trying some remedies on my own like more exercise and a change in diet. My primary physician does not recommend surgery she has me taking iron ferrous sulfate supplements twice per day to help with my iron count. It seems to be helping. The only problem I have with taking the iron supplements is that it sometimes causes constipation and I am normally pretty regular. I usually eliminate 2 times per day sometimes 3. My OB/GYN on the other hand keeps pushing for me to having surgery.& amp; nbsp; They had me take BC pills, however I took myself off of them because they made me sick. I took them only for 6 months. I'm 45 and have never taken BC pills ever and I don't want to start now. I've never been pregnant. I flow heavy on my 2nd and 3rd day heavy and after that it is manageable. My cycle has improved however I want to reduce the flow on those days if possible and of course dissolve the fibroid if at all possible. Doctors tell me they won't go away unless removed. I used to be on my cycle for 7 days and 4 of those days were heavy. Now I'm normally on for 4 days and only the 2nd and 3rd day are heavy. I know that as I reach menopause they may shrink in size, however I'm still aways off from that. I eat no red meat however I do eat fish and poultry. I eat a pretty good balance of vegetables and fruits, mostly raw and steamed. I drink lactaid milk. I don't eat much dairy except cheese and eggs occasionally. I do have a weakness, I love potato chips. I know this is not good. I can feel the fibroid get bigger when I eat them. When I stop for a period of time it decreases in size. At least I feel like it does. I'm not a sugar craver, however during the week before my cycle I'll crave sweets. I usually resist. I feel it's my diet that has caused the fibroids as well as every female in my family has had a hysterectomy due to fibroids. I think it is also hereditary as well. Whatever the case I'd like to know what regimen can you put me on that will help me? The goal is to reduce or dissolve the size of the fibroid so it is not affecting my iron level. I'm also starting to see my abdomen get bigger when I've always had a flat stomach. Perhaps this is me just getting older, however I think it's the fibroids. Constant low levels over time can't be good. I hope I have provided you enough information to give me your recommendation. If not please feel free to e-mail me for any additional information you need. I'm looking for a natural cure. Outside of this condition I'm in very good health. No problem with weight, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I'm pretty athletic and active as well. Please advise. I look forward to your recommendation.

Q: Greetings & Namaste, First, thank you for being U-activated! So many potential energies unable to convert into kinetic activities because of our Earthly baggage(s). Personally, I haven't found the right formula to keep my beautiful curves, which is the major reason I am not vegan/raw now. In my perfect world, I'd have a great-tasting, non-dairy,wheat & gluten source of protein, juiced exotic veggie/fruit smoothies, yummy raw nuts/raisins, and absolutely no meat- the fountain of youth, literally, running thru my body! As i'm sure the cognitive wheels of your expertise are spiraling ready solutions, I ask that you also factor in social-economic status, and workout regiment. From my perspective, the price of health food is aggressively over-inflated compared to the affordability of processed and junk foods; add to that a general inaccessibility to the impoverished & disenfranchised, and dysfunctional eating psychologies impregnating entire families (for generations). I prefer high energy, high impact, anaerobic & weight-lifting training activities. So, you can see a petite person's dilemma. Thanks so much for your time and thoughts. Ms. Tiffany

    Greetings & Namaste,

Being raw or vegan does not have to be hard or expensive. The most inexpensive food are rice and beans. If you are budget consciense you should gravitate towards those foods. Stach based foods are super cheap. You should check out the book "eating vegan on 4 dollars a day" or any of Dr. Mcdougal's programs.

I run an online health/fitness/nutrition coaching program that can be found at www.theveganeffect.com. There you might find your answers.

Exercise programs do not have to be expensive either. I am a master at building fitness plans with the minimal of equipment. If all you have is your body weight than I can build you a 90 day plan. The same goes if all you have is a resistance band, exercise ball, dumbells, kettlebell, etc.

If you need any advice or have specific questions you should check out my website and message me there.

Q: Hi, about 4-6 months ago I performed a full body detox, followed up by the 10 day bowel cleanse. Ever since that detox program my periods have changed. Now when I have my period the first day I feel very faint (and sometimes do faint), and feel my energy drain from my body. I proceed to get sick, throw up often, and sweat profusely. I never had cramps before and the levels of cramps I experience now are violent. Is this normal? I never experienced any of this until my detox. On the plus side, my period is more timely, and has changed colors as you said to a more oxygenated color. I'm assuming that I'm on that path to healing, but if there is something I can do to move forward I'd appreciate your advice. Getting sick like this scares me, but also not looking very good with my employer.

    A:

Please read our articles "HEALING CRISIS" and "IS THIS NORMAL?" Your body is simply regulating itself. Take 3 capsules of MOON CYCLE FORMULAdaily and drink 1-2 cups of FEMALE HEALTH TEA daily. The MENSTRUAL ABDOMINAL OIL will also help.

Q: Is necessary to continue food combining after completing FULL BODY DETOX in 20 Days? For example can you consume sweet fruit with sub acid & acid fruit also starches and vegetable (beans) proteins together? I learned in Nutrition that starches (rice) and beans are complete protein when combined together that our body needs. Are you at risk for protein deficiency if consuming vegan diet?

    A:

IT'S YOUR CHOICE! OF COURSE IT'S BEST TO CONTINUE TO DO SO. IT'S UP TO YOU, BELOVED! I PERSONALLY DON'T RECOMMEND IT. NOT TRUE! YOU CAN'T GET PROTEIN FROM COOKED FOODS REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE FOOD IS. OF COURSE NOT, UNLESS YOU ARE IGNORANT TO PROTEIN, REAL PROTEIN, HOW AND WHERE TO GET IT.
