Imitation Crab Meat May Be Worse Than You Realize

imitation-crabs

The attraction to imitation crab is that it is more affordable than the real thing. People also like it because it is low in fat and calories, but there are many other, healthier options that are low in calories and fat. The reason we say this is because imitation crab, while mildly exotic to the Western palate and eye, is not crab at all.

What Is Imitation Crab?

The budget-friendliness and versatility has lead to the popularity of imitation crab in restaurants and grocery stores. Imitation crab does come from the sea, but this red and white “crab” stick is like the seafood version of a hot dog. The Japanese refer to it as surimi, which translates to ground meat. Surimi is a blend of different fish that have been ground into a paste. Manufacturers also add artificial flavors, sodium, MSG (occasionally), and starch, according to SF Gate.

Is Imitation Crab Good For You?

Just in case you were wondering, imitation crab is not gluten-free because the starch in it is made from whole wheat. It is also low in protein, vitamin B12, and selenium. Real crab, on the other hand, is more nutritionally diverse and contains a wide variety of vitamins and minerals. Because of the harmful food additives in imitation crab, consuming it can occasionally lead to leaky gut syndrome, intestinal inflammation, diarrhea, bloating, or abdominal pain, especially if someone is gluten intolerant.

Because manufacturers occasionally put MSG in imitation crab, people can have adverse reactions after consumption. Many people, even though they may not realize it, have MSG intolerance. The signs of MSG intolerance can often be muscle tightness, weakness, numbness/tingling, or headaches after ingesting it.

We always encourage cutting out processed foods and processed ingredients from your diet. The body was not designed to process food additives, which are often detrimental to overall health. Consuming imitation crab can lead to blood sugar spikes, due to the high carbohydrate content. You also should know that imitation crab is easily replaced by whole food substitutes that are much healthier, including jackfruit, artichoke hearts, lion’s mane mushroom, or hearts of palm.

Q: Hi it's me again. I just read what you said about meat and what I don't understand is if meat was not good for us why in the Bible people eat Lamb. How would you explain back in the Bible times during Abraham and Moses when they use to offer sacrifice and kill a lamb were they cruel and going against God. And those who couldn't afford animals like Lamb would use bird eggs. In the book of Exodus chp. 12: 11,21,27,43,48 and Lev. 23:5 and 12:3, Deut. 16:7and Exodus 34:25 when the death Angel was passing and God told them to kill a Lamb and put the blood on the door post and gave the command for them to roast it. How would you explain that because up until this day the Jews still eat Lamb. Even fish, it was fish that God used to feed the 5000 people. Are you saying I can't eat fish at all. I would like to know some of the things you eat in the place of meat , fish and chicken. I really want to change my eating habit.

    A:

All meat consumption came AFTER the Fall of Man (Genesis Chapter 6). Man can eat meat while in a degenerate state but to return back to Eden he/she must go back to plant foods. Also, meat today is greatly TAINTED unlike meat 4,000 - 6,000 years ago! It's not the same. Jews are not the healthiest people, by the way! Health conscious people are!

Q: What do you tell someone that believes that eating meat is better than eating products not made of meat such as wheat pasta, brown rice, etc. My wife eats way too much meat, and she always says that she needs it for the protein. She doesn't work out or exercise regularly so I see it as just an excuse to continue the same old behavior. She's 5'6" and 205lbs and I think she should weigh 140 - 145 max. She's 43 years old and suffers from high blood pressure and swelling in the legs.

    A:

We provide you with all the ammo you need in our free articles. Read the articles WHAT IS MEAT?, PROTEIN PROPAGANDA, THE DANGERS OF EATING MEAT, etc. You'll have all the ammo you need to counteract or retort any meat-eater's argument about eating dead animal flesh!

Q: I've made a lifestyle change about 8 months ago. I excluded all dairy, wheat, grains, gluten, legumes, sugar, oils (except olive oil). I still eat minimum amount of meat (chicken, fish) maybe 2 -3 times/wk. I'm slowly trying to eliminate meat totally as I only use to make my meals more filling. My plan is to do Ozone Therapy midway through the detox program, which also rid the body of toxins.

    A:

    Ozone therapy is beneficial!

Q: Hey wassup Dherbs.com, I got a question about when people try to say they clean the meat with vinegar and citruses before they cook it. What does "cleaning" the meat have to do with the pesticides, worms, and other harmful things added to the meat? I read from your articles that the worms have a shell that forms in very high temperatures so it doesn't kill them.

    A:

You can't clean meat, Beloved. Period! Folks are doing something just to be doing something! All meat is corrupted and toxic! Period!

Q: Hello, I have the herpes virus that occasionally causes me to get a cold sore about once a year. I eat very healthy i.e. no dairy, fried foods, red meat etc. What do you recommend as a cure for this virus. I don't want to take something that will make the virus continue to stay dormant in my blood stream but something that will completely kill it out of my system so I never have an outbreak again. I'm certain there is a remedy that exists. My belief is that God has created a natural cure for every disease. Can you help, thanks?

    A:

We have a very potent Anti-Viral Kit & Regimen that can help eradicate herpes from the body (especially if you perform the Full Body Cleanse before or after the Anti-Viral kit) and build the immune system to prevent future outbreaks.

Q: My question is regarding fibroids. I have been told I have had fibroids about the size of someone 3 months pregnant. I have been told there are two in clusters. They gave me the diameters, but I don't have that information at this time. My OB/GYN has told me he believes it is causing me to be slightly anemic. I have been trying some remedies on my own like more exercise and a change in diet. My primary physician does not recommend surgery she has me taking iron ferrous sulfate supplements twice per day to help with my iron count. It seems to be helping. The only problem I have with taking the iron supplements is that it sometimes causes constipation and I am normally pretty regular. I usually eliminate 2 times per day sometimes 3. My OB/GYN on the other hand keeps pushing for me to having surgery.& amp; nbsp; They had me take BC pills, however I took myself off of them because they made me sick. I took them only for 6 months. I'm 45 and have never taken BC pills ever and I don't want to start now. I've never been pregnant. I flow heavy on my 2nd and 3rd day heavy and after that it is manageable. My cycle has improved however I want to reduce the flow on those days if possible and of course dissolve the fibroid if at all possible. Doctors tell me they won't go away unless removed. I used to be on my cycle for 7 days and 4 of those days were heavy. Now I'm normally on for 4 days and only the 2nd and 3rd day are heavy. I know that as I reach menopause they may shrink in size, however I'm still aways off from that. I eat no red meat however I do eat fish and poultry. I eat a pretty good balance of vegetables and fruits, mostly raw and steamed. I drink lactaid milk. I don't eat much dairy except cheese and eggs occasionally. I do have a weakness, I love potato chips. I know this is not good. I can feel the fibroid get bigger when I eat them. When I stop for a period of time it decreases in size. At least I feel like it does. I'm not a sugar craver, however during the week before my cycle I'll crave sweets. I usually resist. I feel it's my diet that has caused the fibroids as well as every female in my family has had a hysterectomy due to fibroids. I think it is also hereditary as well. Whatever the case I'd like to know what regimen can you put me on that will help me? The goal is to reduce or dissolve the size of the fibroid so it is not affecting my iron level. I'm also starting to see my abdomen get bigger when I've always had a flat stomach. Perhaps this is me just getting older, however I think it's the fibroids. Constant low levels over time can't be good. I hope I have provided you enough information to give me your recommendation. If not please feel free to e-mail me for any additional information you need. I'm looking for a natural cure. Outside of this condition I'm in very good health. No problem with weight, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I'm pretty athletic and active as well. Please advise. I look forward to your recommendation.

    A:

I remember just recently e-mailing you on this inquiry. Your diet MUST CHANGE! Consider full fledged RAW FOODS and VEGAN diet during your healing transition. Lactaid milk is HORRIBLE for you. Did you read our â€FIBROID TUMORS†article?????? You need to keep on performing FULL BODY DETOX followed by Fibroid Buster kit and regimen, back to back! Continuously! Detoxing must become a lifestyle for you! For iron, consider Dherbs.Com IRON PHOSPHATE FORMULA and MOON CYCLE FORMULA. Also, consider a telephone consultation because time is greatly limited in writing back in response to inquiries. There is much healing for you, Beloved!

Q: Greetings & Namaste, First, thank you for being U-activated! So many potential energies unable to convert into kinetic activities because of our Earthly baggage(s). Personally, I haven't found the right formula to keep my beautiful curves, which is the major reason I am not vegan/raw now. In my perfect world, I'd have a great-tasting, non-dairy,wheat & gluten source of protein, juiced exotic veggie/fruit smoothies, yummy raw nuts/raisins, and absolutely no meat- the fountain of youth, literally, running thru my body! As i'm sure the cognitive wheels of your expertise are spiraling ready solutions, I ask that you also factor in social-economic status, and workout regiment. From my perspective, the price of health food is aggressively over-inflated compared to the affordability of processed and junk foods; add to that a general inaccessibility to the impoverished & disenfranchised, and dysfunctional eating psychologies impregnating entire families (for generations). I prefer high energy, high impact, anaerobic & weight-lifting training activities. So, you can see a petite person's dilemma. Thanks so much for your time and thoughts. Ms. Tiffany

Being raw or vegan does not have to be hard or expensive. The most inexpensive food are rice and beans. If you are budget consciense you should gravitate towards those foods. Stach based foods are super cheap. You should check out the book "eating vegan on 4 dollars a day" or any of Dr. Mcdougal's programs.

I run an online health/fitness/nutrition coaching program that can be found at www.theveganeffect.com. There you might find your answers.

Exercise programs do not have to be expensive either. I am a master at building fitness plans with the minimal of equipment. If all you have is your body weight than I can build you a 90 day plan. The same goes if all you have is a resistance band, exercise ball, dumbells, kettlebell, etc.

If you need any advice or have specific questions you should check out my website and message me there.

Q: Hi, me again. (Just letting u know I really appreciate this site and the work Dherbs.com and the others are doing. hotep) I've heard over and over that there are worms and parasites visible to the human eye in all forms of meat and I wanted to know the process with which I could see these parasites. Also I asked before about starch in carbs and was wondering is it best to eliminate carbs completely, or just reduce, and also if eating whole wheat/whole grain.

    A:

You don't have to eliminate anything completely, except for meat, dairy, and artificial salt and sugar. Just cut back on your carbs. Refined grains, such as breads, cereals, pastas, should be eliminated.

My question to you is, for the last 6 months I have not eaten beef, or pork, I have eaten chicken about 5 times, but only white meat(breast, baked). And by the way I don?t eat any dairy or bread!

    A:

Oh, please read our article " WHAT IS MEAT?" under "Articles" on our site. Your answer lies there in that article. All meat is harmful! But you're off to a great start! Peace!

Also, how much per month will these products cost and how many months do the kits last? How do you recommend I buy them? By kit or individual? Thank you for your time!

    A:

I recommend you perform the FULL BODY DETOX kit followed by the FIBRIOD BUSTER CLEANSE AND REGIME. Perform them back to back. Take a break for about a month and perform both of them again. Six weeks on and six weeks off. While your off of these 2 kits, take individual formulas of IRON PHOSPHATE FORMULA, FIBRIOD BUSTER, and MOON CYCLE FORMULA. In re iron, you are taking POISON! The kind of iron you are taking is poisonous and mixes with sulfur in your body which creates constipation. I suggest Dherbs IRON PHOSPHATE FORMULA which is 100% all-natural with absolutely no adverse side effects! Also, you have to improve your diet. Nothing greatly causes fibroids than DAIRY PRODUCTS! The meat, potato chips, dairy, etc. is filling up your trashbags (tumors). Go VEGAN and RAW FOODS! Start reading some of our free health articles, i.e. â€FIBROID TUMORSâ€, â€WHAT IS RAW FOODSâ€, etc. Dherbs products can greatly help you and you'll see and/or feel the difference (as long as you don't cheat on your diet). There is much help for you!

Q: I finished my FBD yesterday. Is it normal for people who have done detox hard to eat food I used to eat? I mean meat, fish, etc...I don't have that much appetite somehow. Is this normal? I am thinking about doing Female Cleanse in a week or so...My question is how many time do I need to cleanse my body? I understand it is depend on person but I need to find out.

    A:

We would recommend to incorporate as many of the raw foods you ate during your cleanse into your diet post-cleanse. Try to find a balance with healthy, nutrient-dense foods.

A person can detox 2-4 times per year to cleanse their bodies of any impurities acquired due to lifestyle and environmental factors.
