It May Shock You But These DIY Weed Killers Really Work

old-man-spraying-weed-killer

You just finished a long day of manicuring your garden and lawn. It’s nearly perfect, ready for Instagram and Pinterest, and you are even considering writing a blog post about how you tamed nature. Little did you know that impeccable lawn care is more prone to weeds like dandelion, crab grass, or anything with a seed. No matter how meticulous your gardening skills, weeds will always ruin your hard work.

Weeds are the bane of every gardener’s existence and they never give up. They don’t need water, soil (they even grow in the cracks of the sidewalk!), and they thrive during every season. Weeds never give up, and that’s an admirable trait, but they need to die. Since scouring every inch of your garden or lawn and pulling weeds can be quite tedious, you may benefit from strong, non-toxic weed killers that get the job done.

Let’s take you back to 1970 for a brief moment. Love was free and John Franz was a chemist for Monsanto. He discovered that glyphosate kills just about every plant material you can imagine. Using this chemical, Monsanto developed the miracle weed killer known as Roundup. Farmers began spraying it on all their crops to get rid of weeds, but they ran into a problem: all of their crops died along with the weeds. So what do you think Monsanto did next? If you were thinking that they had scientists develop “Roundup ready crops” with genetically modified DNA that was resistant to glyphosate, then you were right. Now, people can spray Roundup on crops without killing them.

Well, as nice a story as that is, we value our health and don’t want to spray glyphosate, which has been known to cause cancer in animals and asthma in humans, on our gardens. To avoid exposure to more toxins, consider spraying several of the following DIY weed killers on those pesky weeds.

Boiling Water:

This is probably the simplest, inexpensive, all-natural weed killer that is free of chemicals. If you have weeds that creep through the cracks in the sidewalk or your driveway, take a pot of boiling water and pour it on the weeds. The result is immediate death. Pour the boiling water slowly to avoid splashing. One important thing to note is that boiling water doesn’t kill the weeds from their roots, so you may need to repeat and keep yanking the weeds out until the spots clear up.

Vinegar Lemon Weed Killer:

Some weed killer recipes only call for distilled white vinegar and a little salt, but this recipe goes for the roots by adding fresh lemon juice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 gallon distilled white vinegar
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 cup sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon all natural dish soap (optional)
  • Garden sprayer

Instructions:

  • Add all of the ingredients into a garden sprayer and shake well to thoroughly combine.
  • The amount you use will depend on how many weeds you have. Spray the mixture directly on the weeds. They should be dead within a week.
  • Store the sprayer in a cool dry place.

Newspaper:

You may think that it is silly, but professional landscapers use newspaper to prevent weeds from growing. After cutting the weeds down with a weed whacker, lay down the grocery advertisements or yesterday’s headlines to cover the weeds. This essentially starves the weeds of sunlight and air. Cover the newspaper with some mulch and the weeds will go away.

Q: I just sent you an email yesterday regarding my husband, but I am sending this one because I have read through a lot of your articles and one thing that I didn't see was your outlook about smoking weed. How do you feel about smoking weed? I mean isn't it suppose to be an herb and if it is smoked through a bong as oppose to blunt paper isn't weed healthy? Please forgive my ignorance.

    A:

Please read our article THE BLUNT FACTS OF MARIJUANA. The substance is banned by your government so why take the risk? Why not just meditate or work with crystals or yoga? No herb should be smoked. You're putting fire to it, which changes the molecular structure of the thing being burned.

Q: I have been smoking weed the past couple of days, I suppose to take a drug test next week, can I take some type of detox to cleanse my urine.

Q: I used to smoke weed every day and it made my lips black. Do you have anything to bring them back to normal?

    A:

The blackness of the lips is simply a consequence for the habit of smoking marijuana. If you become a raw foodist and eat raw foods for 3+ years your lips will lighten up.

Q: I purchased 100.00 in organic herbs. Chapparal leaf, poke weed, psyllium husk powder, Pau d'Arco Bark. I purchased these herbs because my husband exposed me to the virus. I did not want to use traditional drugs to kill the virus. The only symptoms I have is the crescent moon under my eyes. I am 61 years old. My husband is African and refuses to use protection to prevent illness. Are they safe in small quantities?

    A:

The herbs are safe in small quantities and actually all quantities as herbs are 100% safe!

Q: Is sea salt and warm water a good natural laxative? If so how often do you recommend the use of sea salt for elimination? I was reading The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs and it gives this recommendation, along with drinking lemon water mixed with organic syrup and cayenne pepper. Is it safe to give myself an enema 2xs per day using a hot water bottle filled with fresh squeezed organic lemon and distilled water? Asking this because Bzod had me to listen to 88.3 today here in Cincinnati and the guy (Mike) was telling how he does this regularly and has great results.

    A:

Yes, sea salt in water is a mild laxative!

You can do it as often as you FEEL the need to drink or take it.

You can also consume the Master Cleanse (cayenne, maple syrup, lemon juice) if you choose. You can drink this as much as you like depending on how you feel.

And yes, you can perform enemas 2X a day! Enemas are very helpful for health!

Q: I love to drink water, but I like to drink hot water you know boiling water slightly cooled. Is there a benefit, or disadvantage to this compared to drinking room temperature water? Secondly, the water I drink is boiled water. Alkaline water is not a privilege most Kenyans have. If 56% of the population is living below poverty line you do the math. So the water I drink is tap water, that I boil to make it safe for drinking. When I get to work I have Alkaline water as my work place provides me with that provision. I think this is detailed enough for you to get the picture and help. Once again (I love you) in Swahili for spreading the gospel!

    A:

No difference at all, Beloved! Even the boiled water becomes room temperature water. You're doing fine! Thank you for your words as well! Much appreciated! Peace and Love!

Secondly...I am on my third day of the Full Body Detox & it is challenging and invigorating at the same time. My newest question is...how can I make the fruit smoothie that you recommended for drinking in the morning? & can you send my a recipe?

    A:

A few recipes are in the Alternative Diet and Lifestyle Manual.

Use 1 cup of fruit juice (of your liking), 1 cup of frozen fruit (i.e. banana, strawberries, mango, etc.), 1 cup of ice (optional). Blend for about 30 seconds! Drink and enjoy!

Q: I am beginning a career as an artist but I am a single mother. I have worked in many corporate offices as a temp. I have attempted attending schools for things I thought would make me money. I really want to be a successful artist but I also have to take care of my son and work on art and work on my freelance contracts. I do not make the money I want or live where I want to live yet. I help my mother with her bills, I buy groceries and cook for everyone, I work at my uncles center for children and out of an art gallery at the homeless shelter as well as attend courses regarding the art business. I am doing it all without acquiring debt but I would like to know if it sounds like I am doing enough. I live a very lonely life, no real friends, no boyfriend. The only "kicks" I get are smoking a little weed and drinking a little wine here and there. I take my son to school and pick him up daily. I made sure I got him into one of the top schools in my city I also try to teach him and read to him as much as possible and keep him out of trouble. It gets hard. How do I stay motivated? I think the thing that bothers me most is uncertainty and the lack of money I have right now. How do I get to the next level financially without acquiring debt or having to fight traffic and deal with crazy attitudes every day?

    A:

I apologize for the very delayed response, we have been experiencing technical difficulties.  I first would like to commend you on your ability to prioritize in such an effective manner.  Your life sounds like one lived in great service to  and love of others.  However, it is also VERY important that you receive energy from others so that you do not become too imbalanced.  Balance in life is crucial in all things (spiritual, physical, cognitive, relational etc).

Your loneliness is your heart's/spirit's way of asking for relational balance.  It will continue asking louder and cause difficulties in other areas of your life/being until you create this balance.  Your substance use (and thank you for your honesty) only temporarily masks the loneliness, but drugs can only make it worse.  You see, drugs block us from becoming skilled at creating healthy relationships because they numbs us by turning down the volume on our brain's natural pleasure-centers.

Additionally; keep in mind:  Your first fruits are always to be consumed by YOU!  You must always place yourself first, even before your son.  In example:  Airlines direct you that in the event of trouble you are to place your own oxygen mask on first.  You can be of no use to your son if you are unconscious due to lack of oxygen.  Similarly, if you give all of your fruits to others, you will have no "seed" or energy to produce more fruit.

You must give to you first!  Then you have the energy to give to others.  It teaches others how to give to you, how to love you, how to respect you and your needs while giving them the opportunity to reciprocate by giving to you.  This is how we balance giving.  Don't worry if it feels selfish at first, it definitely will seem that way, to you and possibly others.  Its just the change of tides making everyone feel a bit uncomfortable - but this will balance out in time as you become  more skilled at receiving and feel more worthy of others' care .

I realize you have asked several other questions, however I have addressed the one I feel will help unblock your energy and allow you to see that the answers to the other questions have always been right before you.  We are born with everything we need to accomplish our goals, we only need to focus on the proper utilization of these gifts and resources.  If you couple this skill with fearlessness and belief in oneself, you will win.

This communication does not constitute a client/coach relationship.  This is for information purposes only.

    Life is simply beautiful!

    Enjoy your Self!

Q: The reason I have chronic constipation is not because of diet, I eat very healthy, it is because of pain medication (narcotics), that I have to take to be able to stand the excruciating pain I am suffering from 5 spinal surgeries (I have metal rods in my spine from my shoulder blades to my tailbone). In order to have a regular bowel movement every day I take Glyco Lax (a dr.'s RX) 2x a day, plus what I call my "concoction" : I Tbs raw honey, 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp. lemon juice, 1/3 cup fresh ground golden flaxseeds,? 1 tsp. Natural Psyllium Husk Fiber, and put all of that in hot purified water and drink it. I also take a stool softener with stimulant. That is a lot of time consuming work for me, but it does work. You offer several products for regularity, but I don't know which one to order. My Dr. says senna is very harsh and addictive, and your products seems to have a lot of senna in them. I was told it is not good for long term use. Please advise.

    A:

Senna is a 100% all-natural herb that is completely safe. It can be used for bowel movement stimulation, as the body recognizes and assimilates the herb without any side effects. All of our products can provide numerous health benefits.

Q: Do you have any advice for one who would like to start a garden. Also, where should I get my seeds, should they be so called organic? What are your thoughts on the upside down planters?

    A:

I say DO IT! GO FOR IT! Look for organic seeds, perhaps on the Inter-net (organic seeds, organic gardening, etc.) Give the upside down planters a try! Experiment!

Q: I'm doing the Full Body Cleanse and I have a few questions about it: I get tired of drinking just the distilled water and I'd like to drink the herbal teas, but I don't like it by itself. Would it mess things up to add a pack or two of Splenda to my tea or maybe honey? I can't stand the salads with the olive oil or apple cider vinegar or the lemon juice as dressing and it makes me gag. I have To have some sort of salad dressing. What kind would be suitable? Do I look for sugar-free? Or organic and natural? I found one that is organic and natural, but it has 3 grams of sugar in it. Without eating all my whole grained breads and other fiber, I haven't had much of a bowel movement in 3 days, should I wait a while yet? (I had surgery on my bowels and always had to take fiber tablets and eat lots of grains to get my bowels to move.) I haven't done the enemas yet, (low on money) should I try that? Or should I resume my fiber tablets I normally take? Any type of fiber I could add to my fruit smoothies in the morning? I want to also do the female cleanse. Is it ok to do that immediately after I finish the full body cleanse or should I wait for a little while? Thank you for all your help, I feel much better than I did before and I just started this detox a week ago, lost 10 pounds, too, woohoooooo! Thank you

    A:

    1. Instead of splenda, use agave, stevia, or grade b maple syrup as a sweetener.

    2. In re Salad Dressing, an organic and natural one is great. You can also check our website for salad dressing recipes.

    3. The fiber pills are not part of the cleanse, so we wouldn't advise those. Fruit is you best choice of fiber so look into eating more papaya, mango, figs, etc. And yes, colonics (and enemas) would greatly help you - undoubtedly!

    4. You can do the Female Cleanse right after you finish detoxing. There's no need to wait!

Q: Hi, thanks for giving people like me some hope that we can all be healed. I recently bought the FULL BODY DETOX and I see where I need to drink distilled water for the first 2 weeks. I am unable to find distilled water here (Jamaica) but I see deionized water is that the same thing as distilled water?

    A:

It's not the same water but it will do!

Q: Question, I usually drink distilled water but for the last month or so I?ve been drinking more sparkling water with lemon ["Blu' Italy"] ...it sparkling water good for u or no?

    A:

It's your choice! If it has carbonation in it, I wouldn't drink too much of it. Spring water is best on the market (unless you can find a brand of water that is alkaline and antioxidant). Drinking too much distilled water can leech vital nutrients from the body. Switch up between distilled and spring.

Q: We here in Africa also need you. We are adopting the western lifestyle at a rate that scares me. The number 1 killer in Kenya amongst young people is no longer Aids, but lifestyle diseases cancers, diabetes etc. I do appreciate your'e article on AIDS. My next question is I came across Cayeen powder today heard of it? I want to start adding it to my raw salads

    A:

Cayenne powder is an excellent herb, great for the blood and circulation. There are a few versions of it as far as heating units are concerned, i.e. 40,000 H.U., 80,000 H.U., 120,000 H.U. and the hottest is called African Bird Pepper.

Q: Hello... I apologize for the length of this because I understand how precious your time is. About 2 weeks ago I had a one-night stand. We used a flavored condom. A few days after I began to have some vaginal itching, which I disregarded as yeast infection I took some black walnut hulls but that did and the itching subsided it a bit. I decided to buy some vagisil (I know its toxic but the itching was unbearable and I wanted immediate relief so badly.) Later on that day my clitoris began to burn but I thought it was from the vagisil. Fast-forward 2 days I looked at my vagina in a mirror and noticed there was a small scab on clitoris. Immediately thought I had herpes. I read your article on herpes and thought I needed to detox my body immediately I have been living unrighteous and it is time to live righteously! I forgave myself for abusing myself with alcohol and weed and unrighteous sex. I then forgave the person for giving me herpes. I'm grateful I had that encounter because it taught me to become center and grounded. I ordered the full body detox, which I am on currently and thought maybe I should do the anti viral kit & regimen afterwards. However I did not get tested for herpes and I may not even have it. I did not want to get tested because I did not want it on the books that I have herpes. I fully agree and over stand there are no incurable diseases. MY body is in a diseased state and blood is toxic. My question is should I get tested after the anti viral regimen kit if I have never been diagnosed with the disease. And I am also a college student with limited funds and not sure if I should invest in the kit because I do not have any money right now. I'M not having sex again until it is with a soul mate. I do want to take an HIV test to show my soul mate I do not have that disease. (in case he asks) I have never taken one of those before. Will it come back negative after the full body detox? I'm not sure what to do from here. Thank you for time. I truly appreciate your site. If I had not found your site I would not be a vegetarian to day and I would not know how to heal myself. I excited about my new path of living positively!

    A:

I would suggest you read our article "Genital Herpes". Sound likes you learned a serious lesson. Now it's time to heal. I would recommend performing the Anti-Viral kit followed by the Full Body Detox and if you can only order one product, I'd say give the Anti-Viral a try. Please read our free health articles. they will further stimulate thinking.
