Lettuce Eat On National Eat Your Vegetables Day 2018

woman-holding-vegetable-plate

Annually observed on June 17th, National Eat Your Vegetables Day is a day to remind everyone about the importance of a healthy diet. Vegetables of all shapes, sizes, and colors (not the frozen ones!) contain phytochemicals, dietary minerals, carbohydrates, vitamins, and antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, and anti-carcinogenic properties. Fresh vegetables also contain fiber, which is integral for a healthy gastrointestinal tract.

Eat Your Vegetables Day is not just about eating the familiar vegetables like carrots, celery, lettuce, or onions; rather, it is about encouraging people to expand their vegetable horizons. Get yourself a diverse assortment of vegetables and then figure out what you can make with them. It can be fun to just pick out a couple new vegetables in the grocery store and find out that you end up liking them. Try getting things like bok choy, watercress, eggplant, purple kale, or summer squash varieties.

It’s important to spread awareness about Eat Your Vegetables Day because of the role vegetables have played throughout the course of human history. Vegetables are arguably the reason that people started to settle, as opposed to their previous nomadic existences. If they planted crops, they had to stick around and establish civilizations to harvest what they grew.

Vegetables were staples in our diet long before science proved what people already knew. Vegetables helped with growth, digestion, and longevity. Many tests have confirmed that vegetables provide nutrients that are impossible to get from animal sources, especially animal sources that contain hormones, antibiotics, and saturated fats. The nutrients in vegetables help to improve bone health, decrease the risk of heart disease, and work to offset diabetes.

Make sure that you are eating at least a half-cup of each vegetable you consume when you eat salads, stir-fries, or vegetable medleys. Don’t layer them with cheese or sauté them in a cream sauce. A little olive oil, sea salt, and pepper is all you need. Let us know what vegetables you eat today and which ones are your favorites.

Q: Which are the best fruits and vegetables that promote weight loss during the detox and should the nuts be excluded? Do I need a combination of protein, carbohydrates and fats in order to lose substantially and if so, are there fruits and vegetables in these categories and is there possibly a limit to certain ones?

    A:

All fruits and vegetables help to tone you to the weight you desire. Why exclude nuts? Weight comes from meat, dairy products, refined products, etc. Not natural foods! Don't worry about protein, carbs, etc. It creates confusion! Real food doesn't cause problems. Let all the dietary confusion go and you will be fine!

Q: I have read about your detox system on your site and others. Here is the product that I am thinking about purchasing: Full Body Detox I have some questions... 1) Is there a diet plan or eating plan that comes with this order? and 2) I have 100 pounds to lose and am thinking about going on the Medifast plan. That is a high (vegetable) protein diet with no fruit and not a lot of vegetables allowed. Would these supplements in the detox plan help my organs that might be taxed a bit on this diet with very little vegetables and no fruit? I am skeptical about #2...I think raw fruits and vegetables are so important inour diets, yet, I do need to drop weight fast. I look forward to any thoughts that you might have.

    A:

Yes, the Full Body Cleanse comes with a dietary regimen prescribing an all-raw foods diet (fruits, vegetables, raw nuts and seeds). This means no meat, dairy, grains, or processed foods.

Q: Can I lightly sauté in Olive oil or steam my raw vegetables occasionally on the Full Body Cleanse? This is my second day on the cleanse and I am having a hard time eating crunchy vegetables.

    A:

Hi, and thanks for the question.

It is best to avoid oil for the cleanse and future dieting. Oil slows down digestion, reduces blood flow up to 30 percent for 3 hours after digestion, and is essentially a ton of calories with little to no nutrient value. When you sauté vegetables in olive or other oil you are turning a low calories highly nutritious food into a high calorie and low nutrient dense food.

Steaming is an ok option if done lightly. When you steam vegetables you do reduce nutrient value and destroy some enzymes. If you do you will lessen the impact of the cleanse to a degree but I would rather you eat the vegetable than not at all. The benefit of eating the vegetable lightly steamed is better than avoiding the vegetable.

Q: I am interested in purchasing the 20 day cleanse. However I just read the diet while taking it. My only concern is that I do not eat salad or raw vegetables now. I do not like the taste and they do not agree with my stomach I eat almost every vegetable steamed. Is there any way to get around this. I can do fruit smoothies but for 20 days? Do you have any suggestions? thank you

A: Cooking foods takes out the nutrients and enzymes that are beneficial to our bodies, so eating food in it’s most natural state is best. Unfortunately there's no alternative diet to the regimen. The herbs work in conjunction with the raw food diet. You would need to consume some vegetables while on the cleanse. You can incorporate raw vegetables into smoothies, but it would be best to also consume whole foods.

Q: Can you combine Vegetables (green leafy) with Vegetables (fruit-vegetables)? Are fruit-veggies considered fruit or veggie?

    A:

Green leafy veggies may be combined with fruit-veggies (cucumbers and tomotoes). Fruit-veggies are really fruit. You can always tell because of the seeds. Technically, anything that contains seeds is a fruit!

Q: On WebMD there is information stating that high fiber foods such as raw fruits, and vegetables can irritate or flare up Crohn's disease. But, your article on Chron's disease says to switch to a vegan diet after detoxing. Why would raw fruits and vegetables flare up Chron's disease? Why do your articles suggest to eat raw fruits and veggies when people say it can irritate the disease?

    A:

We don't subscribe to that. We do our own homework at Dherbs.com. There is no confusion at Dherbs because we use logic, reason, common sense, intuition, wisdom, etc. So we are not confused in regards to food and health.

Q: I see also that you recommend a complete diet with these programs. I am guessing its a vegan diet right? I wanted to ask something on that is coconut milk and coconut oils ok for that? I personally had a very hard time trying to eat that many vegetables and many ph balance vegans seem to think fruits aren?t good either. I eat that many vegetables one it tears me up the next day and two I just cant consume enough calories that way. I can try and make up for it by eating things like almonds but I eat to many almonds I get the same problem the next day. Now coconut milk (unsweetened) and a digestive enzyme works for me for picking up extra calories.... but I hear very conflicting information about coconut and its saturated fat content. Is it ok to use daily as a part of the diet for cleansing? And your oxy-drops are those the same as the drop for ph balancing water?? Or is it something different? I am wanting to start lifting weights as I need to put on some muscle and I?m wondering if its something that would be beneficial in combating muscle soreness by increased oxygen in the body.

    A:

The diet we recommend is vegan-based, and RAW FOODS. Fresh fruits, vegetables, raw nuts and seeds are ideal.

Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil are excellent products to have in your diet. The healthy fats will keep you fuller.

Oxy-Drops can help balance your electrolytes that need to be replenished after a workout in order to keep your body performing efficiently.

Q: I am 7 months pregnant with just a few symptoms (sciatica, low blood pressure, and change in appetite). So far, I have been doing pretty well. I take your pre-natal and calcium herbs. My fear is that I have no desire to eat vegetables. I only want fruit. Meat turns my stomach so I stay clear of it. I have just started gaining weight (3 pounds). What do you advise regarding the vegetables, low blood pressure, and sciatica?

    A:

In place of vegetables try taking 6 capsules of our ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD formula. For sciatica, try our NERVES FORMULA (also get massage and see a chiropractic). For low blood pressure, take CARDIO-VASCULAR FORMULA. For change in appetite, just go with the flow. Trust your body's natural inclination to change. You'll be fine. If you feel it's necessary, please schedule a consultation.

I am not creative enough to think of other meals that I can possibly eat that consists of only raw foods. Any suggestions. I am struggling and I have two weeks to go.

(see "Green Smoothie Revolution" Boutenko for more info)

Q: While doing a candida cleanse, it was told to me that I should be following a raw food diet full of fruits and vegetables. Fruits have high sugar content and can feed a candida overgrowth, as it is a well known fact that candida albicans thrive on sugar. How can I justify eating fruits high in sugar? Thank you for your comments. Ozzy

A: Yes, when you have a candida issue it's best to avoid refined sugar. Sugar from a natural source like fruits should be consumed moderately. In your case it would be best to consume fruits mainly in the mornings for breakfast when your body maximizes on food the most, avoiding the ones that are very high in sugar.

Q: Hello I am trying to get on a raw food diet I need to know what is the best vegetables or fruit I can blend for high cholesterol.

A: Hi, thanks for the question, All fruits and vegetables lower cholesterol with the exception of coconut oil. Two foods although not raw which in studies were shown to reduce cholesterol 20 points in a week were a cup of beans and a cup of oatmeal. Following a high carb version (fruit based) of the raw diet is the fastest way to lower overall cholesterol and regain homeostasis. A high fat gourmet raw will do little in lowering your overall cholesterol numbers as well as not help you regain lost health, Gary Gibson HHC CPT BMI VLCE www.theveganeffect.com

Q: I wrote to you a couple weeks ago asking if it was normal for me to have an outbreak only a day or two into the full body cleanse kit. You wrote back and told me that an outbreak is the body healing. It is two weeks later and I am still having an outbreak! Is this a good sign? Do you think this outbreak may continue on through my anti viral kit? I have been eating mostly fruits and vegetables, however I felt like I needed more substance and I was not enjoying my food at all... so I bought organic noodles and organic tomato sauce (sea salt only, tomatoes, no sugar, you get the point). Is adding some of this into my diet going to make the kits less effective or possibly not work?

    A:

The outbreak is a result of your body trying to eliminate the toxicity and impurities from your body. Continue to follow the guidelines of the Cleanse.

In regards to what you ate, YES, they make the cleanse less effective, so you may not want to eat much of cooked foods. Raw foods will optimize the cleanse. If you are having trouble staying full, try more healthy fats, like avocado, coconut cream, or raw nuts and seeds.

Q: I am on my 3rd day of the fully body cleansing. I am definitely doing this to lose weight. I am a 52 year old, black, Christian, wife, mother to 21 and 14 year old girls, legal secretary who is 450 lbs. I am to the point now where if I don't do this I'm going to be housebound. I can barely move some days that is why I started this because I feel so unhealthy. I have a question about the nuts. I got all gun-ho and ordered $135.00 worth of organic nuts from nuts.com. I got raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios and cashews and mixed them all up together (well I purchased 2 lbs of each but I only mixed up 1 lb of each together). Anyway, I was reading about how much calories are in nuts. Should I not pay attention to that because I was consuming a lot of calories in the first place or do I have to watch how many nuts I eat? I have put some nuts in a sandwich bags and basically filled it up and that is supposed to be my nuts ration for the day. I am also eating fruits and vegetables. So far the fruit have been grapes, grapefruit, red apples, pears, green apples and bananas. The vegetables have all been in a salad: tomatoes, celery spinach leaves, carrots, mixed in balsamic vinaigrette. I only ate the salad Monday night all the other times I have just eaten the fruit and nuts. I am also consuming approximately 75-100 oz of water. Sorry I’m long winded I just wanted you to get the entire picture.

    A:

Thanks for the question, I can definitely help you.

I am currently writing an eBook for www.dherbs.com called "Losing weight the healthy way." I have been a weight loss counselor for many years. I am also a health coach, personal trainer, bodymind nutritionist, and a vegan lifestyle coach.

When it comes to weight loss most programs want you to lose weight to get healthy. My mindset is to get healthy and lose weight.

In my health/fitness/nutrition coaching program www.theveganeffect.com I use a lowfat/high carb/ high raw/ nutrient dense/ high alkaline diet to achieve long term weight loss success. So far I am 100 percent in getting clients long lasting weight loss. If you are interested in my program please fill out the health history form on the side of the web page. We could have a free 1 hour initial consultation over skype to see how I can best help you.

Nuts are best kept to a minimum if you use them at all. Nuts are extremely high in fat and have the opposite omega 3- omega 6 ratio that is optimal for health. Seeds are best as far as ratios are concerned. Also nuts are truly easy to over eat and cause your nutrient ratios to be off.

A healthy vegan diet is a high raw fruitarian diet.

    Example:

Breakfast: green smoothie. (500-1000 calories of fruits blended with a handful of greens and water)

Bridge: Dates and strawberries (500 calories)

Lunch: Salad with low sugar fruits (cucumber, tomato, squash, bell peppers) topped with fruit, beans, psuedo grains,

    Bridge: 2-3 apples

Dinner: Raw wraps (collard greens) with low sugar fruit and tahini

    Snack: Sorbet

    Hope this helps

Q: I just completed the Full Body Cleanse about two weeks ago and started the Pancreas Formula for my pancreas... I don?t have the money for the full kit but after the Full Body Cleanse I?ve notice my blood averaging +-200.....it had reached a low of 124 during detox. I bought cromium and have used it since the onset of detox at about 1200 mcg per day! My Pancreas is a piece of crap!!!!! I haven?t had ANY thing with added sugar or artificial, just green tea with stevia to sweeten it. NO Treats! The only regular food I get now is like lean cuisine type once or twice a day with fresh vegetables or fresh made Veg juice....I had went from 327lbs to 289lbs during detox but since I?ve went back up settling at about 296 and stable. I have cut everything I love out of my life! No Sugar, No Milk Products. About 6 ounces of meat A WEEK eat mostly live vegetables yet I see a Pancreas that needs to be punished for ruining my life!!!!! I try to help it and this is what it does for me! I don?t know what to do next.

    A:

If you can't afford the full kit or kits, order and drink some of our Herbal Teas to help maintain the pancreas in its normal healthy secretion. Cinnamon Tea can also provide additional benefits.

We also recommend a daily pancreas regimen of: Pancreas Aid, Pancreas Formula, and Sugar Control.

Your vegetable juice should consist of GREEN BEAN (Snap pea) and/or BRUSSEL SPROUTS, to help maintain pancreatic health.

Q: hello, I saw that it says to eat raw fruits and vegetables but I am not a vegetable or salad eater. What else is there best for me to eat to get the best result. Please help

A: Thank you for contacting us.  The herbs work in conjunction with the raw food diet. Cooking foods takes out the nutrients and enzymes that are beneficial to our bodies, so eating food in it’s most natural state is best. The raw food diet supplies your body with everything that is significant to good health. The main purpose for the diet is benefit from the food and to give your body a break from the foods it’s accustom to receiving. You’re giving your body everything that it needs, instead of what it wants. In order for the cleanse to be effective you must follow the regimen and diet exactly.  There's no alternative to the required diet.

Q: Do the supplements that go along with the Full Body Cleanse serve as an apetite curver being that only raw foods such as; fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds can be consumed during this process?

    A:

Great question. The key to successfully The Full Body Cleanse, is to not starve yourself. We want you to consume fresh fruits, and vegetables until you are content. Many people forget that the elephant, which is one of the biggest mammals on land is in fact a vegetarian. You can still eat veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, and be content. I have provided you with a link to the recipes section on our site. Please click the link, and then look at the section entitled, "Raw Recipes." Under that section you will find a bunch of recipes that you can use while cleansing.
