Here’s A Little Chocolate (And Mint) History:

The cocoa tree has been harvested in Central and South America for quite some time. In fact, some of the best chocolate in the world is grown in these regions because the climate is perfect for the plant. The Aztecs and the Mayans are given a lot of credit for their ways with chocolate. European explorers brought chocolate back to Europe, but they were not fond of the bitter beans.

Europeans began to use brew the chocolate into a hot beverage, for medicinal purposes, and they began mixing other healing herbs like cinnamon and mint. Once they put sugar into the drink, chocolate and mint became the mocha Frappuccino of the time. Inventions and improvements were made that allowed confectioners to begin mass-producing chocolate. Subsequently, mint chocolate became a popular treat by the 1900s.

Since the 20th century, many companies have produced mint chocolate treats. There are after dinner mints, Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies, mint chocolate chip ice cream, and even mint chocolate martinis. The creations are endless, which is why we’ve gathered a couple of our favorite mint chocolate desserts that you can enjoy guilt-free.
