Natural Remedies To Help Relieve Constipation

man-on-toilet

Constipation is a common problem of the digestive system that makes the sufferer have difficult or infrequent bowel movements. Someone with constipation may experience only three bowel movements per week, or more frequent bowel movements that are small, hard, and dry. It is a normal digestive problem that a lot of people experience, but it varies from person to person. The good news is that constipation is easily treated.

What Causes Constipation?

Lack of exercise and a poor diet are the most common causes of constipation. When a person maintains an unhealthy diet, problems with the digestive system may occur. The foods, which are most related to constipation, include dairy products, foods high in fat, sugar, alcohol, and foods that lack fiber. It is also possible to become constipated if an existing condition or disease is present.

Natural Remedies

Fibrous Foods:
One of the best things you can do to help increase bowel movements is to incorporate fibrous foods into your diet and eliminate fast food, dairy, meat, salt, sugar, and alcohol. Foods like figs, pears, whole oats or bran, and prunes are all great sources of fiber. Flaxseeds, which one who is constipated should consume two to three times a day, are also a great source of fiber.

Stay Hydrated:

It is important to stay hydrated to aid the digestive system. Drinking the recommended eight 8oz glasses of water per day is a great way to maintain hydration. Another measurement is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water. If you weigh 150lbs, then you should drink 75oz of water every day. Additionally, herbal teas, water with lemon juice, mint or ginger tea, or dandelion tea may help get things moving.

Walk It Out:

One of the best remedies to help your body digest food is to exercise, even if the starting point is a 15-minute walk around neighborhood. Movement helps the body pass food more quickly. Instead of lying down after a meal, walk around for a few minutes to kick-start the digestive process.

Castor Oil:

An age-old natural remedy for relieving constipation is castor oil. Castor oil, while it may not taste great, is a natural laxative that, when consumed, breaks down into a substance that stimulates the small and large intestines. Consume 1 to 2 tablespoons of castor oil on an empty stomach for best results.

Q: I am writing you to see if you have any information and remedies for hemorrhoids. I am a Black African male in my 40's. I have changed my diet for the last 3 yrs., no meat, fish, cheese, milk, no dairy, no alcohol, no bread, greatly decreased sugar and salt. I exercise 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week, drink at least 6 glasses of water a day and take lots of vitamin c and a multivitamin but I still have not been able to get rid of the hemorrhoids. Also the hemorrhoids only come out when I have a bowel movement. I have bowel movements twice a day. Also, I have been taking horse chestnut tincture. Is there anything that you know of that might help me to get rid of them. Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Truthfully, thank you very much.

    A:

Try our 10-Day Supreme Colon Cleanser. After the cleanse, take 3 capsules of Hemorrhoid Buster 2-3 times daily. Drink 1 cup of Aloe Vera juice daily.

Q: The reason I have chronic constipation is not because of diet, I eat very healthy, it is because of pain medication (narcotics), that I have to take to be able to stand the excruciating pain I am suffering from 5 spinal surgeries (I have metal rods in my spine from my shoulder blades to my tailbone). In order to have a regular bowel movement every day I take Glyco Lax (a dr.'s RX) 2x a day, plus what I call my "concoction" : I Tbs raw honey, 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp. lemon juice, 1/3 cup fresh ground golden flaxseeds,? 1 tsp. Natural Psyllium Husk Fiber, and put all of that in hot purified water and drink it. I also take a stool softener with stimulant. That is a lot of time consuming work for me, but it does work. You offer several products for regularity, but I don't know which one to order. My Dr. says senna is very harsh and addictive, and your products seems to have a lot of senna in them. I was told it is not good for long term use. Please advise.

    A:

Senna is a 100% all-natural herb that is completely safe. It can be used for bowel movement stimulation, as the body recognizes and assimilates the herb without any side effects. All of our products can provide numerous health benefits.

Q: For the last few months off and on when I have bowel movements that are not "normal". I read somewhere that one's waste should float. My waste however comes out whole but tends to disintegrate in the water. I am very regular, I use the bathroom at least 3 times a day after each meal and maintain a pretty healthy vegan diet about 70% live foods. I was wondering if there could be an issue with absorption, or assimilation in my colon, possibly a fiber issue?

    A:

Yes, stools should be whole (not disintegrate) and should float in the toilet water. Try increasing your dietary fiber intake with whole fruits and vegetables. Read some of our COLON articles on our site under "Articles."

Q: I am breastfeeding a 3-month-old baby girl and have severe constipation. I may go a week without a bowel movement. This is not normal and very painful. When I do finally go, it is very hard stool. What is safe for me, and my child to help alleviate the problem without losing my milk supply?

    A:

A laxative will not impair your milk supply. Try our BOWEL MOVER and/or COLON FORMULA.

Q: I'm doing the Full Body Cleanse and I have a few questions about it: I get tired of drinking just the distilled water and I'd like to drink the herbal teas, but I don't like it by itself. Would it mess things up to add a pack or two of Splenda to my tea or maybe honey? I can't stand the salads with the olive oil or apple cider vinegar or the lemon juice as dressing and it makes me gag. I have To have some sort of salad dressing. What kind would be suitable? Do I look for sugar-free? Or organic and natural? I found one that is organic and natural, but it has 3 grams of sugar in it. Without eating all my whole grained breads and other fiber, I haven't had much of a bowel movement in 3 days, should I wait a while yet? (I had surgery on my bowels and always had to take fiber tablets and eat lots of grains to get my bowels to move.) I haven't done the enemas yet, (low on money) should I try that? Or should I resume my fiber tablets I normally take? Any type of fiber I could add to my fruit smoothies in the morning? I want to also do the female cleanse. Is it ok to do that immediately after I finish the full body cleanse or should I wait for a little while? Thank you for all your help, I feel much better than I did before and I just started this detox a week ago, lost 10 pounds, too, woohoooooo! Thank you

    A:

    1. Instead of splenda, use agave, stevia, or grade b maple syrup as a sweetener.

    2. In re Salad Dressing, an organic and natural one is great. You can also check our website for salad dressing recipes.

    3. The fiber pills are not part of the cleanse, so we wouldn't advise those. Fruit is you best choice of fiber so look into eating more papaya, mango, figs, etc. And yes, colonics (and enemas) would greatly help you - undoubtedly!

    4. You can do the Female Cleanse right after you finish detoxing. There's no need to wait!

Q: I am looking for foods that will help to burn and speed up my metabolism. Also foods that are comforting. I have a problem with constipation please help in that area also. Thanks

    A:

Thanks for the question.I will answer the constipation question later. Here are five foods that will naturally speed up your metabolism. The more efficient your metabolism the more efficient your body will burn fat. Who doesn't want that?!

1: Grapefruit. Due to it's high alkalinity and high nutrient density it is a great food to rev up your metabolism. Have you heard of the grapefruit cleanse? It works! It's possible it works because you are consuming less calories and fat. However, I feel it also helps the body stay alkaline and allows your body to shed fat.

2: Spices, especially cayenne pepper! All spices and herbs have an alkaline effect making them super foods for weight loss. One Canadian study found the use of spices enabled people to burn up to 1,000 more calories daily than those not incorporating spices into their diet. Cayenne pepper can raise metabolism up to 25 percent in another study.

3: Apples: Apples have 80 calories in them. It takes nearly 100 to digest them. What does that mean for you? that you are getting a ton of nutrients while getting negative net calories. Sounds awesome to me! Also studies have shown that women who eat three apples a day burn more calories than those who didn't. Consider pears in the same category.

4: Leafy greens including green tea. Green tea has special metabolism boosting powers. That why you see the green tea extracts everywhere. However, the extracts do not work. There is something special about using the whole food. You need synergy and so does your food. Spinach, kale, collards, etc are super healthy (what a revelation!!) metabolism amping powers. Obviously are negative calorie foods that go along way.

5: Seeds! Add seeds to greens, smoothies, salads, or just about anywhere. All seeds are potent but the ones that we are talking about here are the tiny ones. Flax, chia, hemp, sesame, etc. They all have wonderful balances of essential fatty acids and in nature the best way to break down fat is with another fat.

    Hope this answers your question.

Q: I'm interested in buying your products but I'm not sure which will be the appropriate one for me. I have a skin condition, which has gotten worse over the years; I have small pimples with white dots all over my arms, elbows, and now it has spread to my stomach, thighs, and buttocks. I suffer from constant constipation and I had a toxic mega colon and my appendix was removed as well. I think the reason why I am having so many problems with my skin is due to the chronic constipation I have had since I was very little. Please let me know which products I should use.

Q: What Are Some Natural Sweet Treats (Junk Foods) I can Consume? Under free will you can consume what you like, but healthier products are best. You will find plenty of "healthier" snack, treat, and junk foods at good health food stores such as Whole Foods Market, PCC Natural Food Stores, Erewhon, Trader Joes, Natural Grocers, New Frontiers, etc. Just make sure to abstain from salt, sugar, and other harmful chemicals in the products you buy. We list many companies of alternative foods and products (and their website addresses) in our ALTERNATIVE DIET AND LIFESTYLES MANUAL.

Q: I'm on my 10th day of the Full body cleanse and I have only dropped like 5 pounds. When I go walking and come back to weigh myself. I see that I'm down like 3 lbs. But, when I weigh myself the next morning, I still only lost 5 pounds. I have lost my appetite completely. I eat fruits and a small salad other than that, I have no desire to eat. I have bowel movements about 3 times a day however, they are not regular size bowel movements. I even had a colonics yesterday, and not much happened with that, no movement. I'm just wondering what can I do to optimize my weight lost with this detox? I had taken smooth move too... still no change... Please advise.

    A:

Stop putting so much energy (emphasis) on how much (weight) you're losing. You're creating a block for yourself. In fact, you should even stop weighing yourself. Only do so after you complete the cleanse. Just focus on how you feel, and what you desire -- your objective, okay!

Q: My question is regarding fibroids. I have been told I have had fibroids about the size of someone 3 months pregnant. I have been told there are two in clusters. They gave me the diameters, but I don't have that information at this time. My OB/GYN has told me he believes it is causing me to be slightly anemic. I have been trying some remedies on my own like more exercise and a change in diet. My primary physician does not recommend surgery she has me taking iron ferrous sulfate supplements twice per day to help with my iron count. It seems to be helping. The only problem I have with taking the iron supplements is that it sometimes causes constipation and I am normally pretty regular. I usually eliminate 2 times per day sometimes 3. My OB/GYN on the other hand keeps pushing for me to having surgery.& amp; nbsp; They had me take BC pills, however I took myself off of them because they made me sick. I took them only for 6 months. I'm 45 and have never taken BC pills ever and I don't want to start now. I've never been pregnant. I flow heavy on my 2nd and 3rd day heavy and after that it is manageable. My cycle has improved however I want to reduce the flow on those days if possible and of course dissolve the fibroid if at all possible. Doctors tell me they won't go away unless removed. I used to be on my cycle for 7 days and 4 of those days were heavy. Now I'm normally on for 4 days and only the 2nd and 3rd day are heavy. I know that as I reach menopause they may shrink in size, however I'm still aways off from that. I eat no red meat however I do eat fish and poultry. I eat a pretty good balance of vegetables and fruits, mostly raw and steamed. I drink lactaid milk. I don't eat much dairy except cheese and eggs occasionally. I do have a weakness, I love potato chips. I know this is not good. I can feel the fibroid get bigger when I eat them. When I stop for a period of time it decreases in size. At least I feel like it does. I'm not a sugar craver, however during the week before my cycle I'll crave sweets. I usually resist. I feel it's my diet that has caused the fibroids as well as every female in my family has had a hysterectomy due to fibroids. I think it is also hereditary as well. Whatever the case I'd like to know what regimen can you put me on that will help me? The goal is to reduce or dissolve the size of the fibroid so it is not affecting my iron level. I'm also starting to see my abdomen get bigger when I've always had a flat stomach. Perhaps this is me just getting older, however I think it's the fibroids. Constant low levels over time can't be good. I hope I have provided you enough information to give me your recommendation. If not please feel free to e-mail me for any additional information you need. I'm looking for a natural cure. Outside of this condition I'm in very good health. No problem with weight, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I'm pretty athletic and active as well. Please advise. I look forward to your recommendation.

    A:

I remember just recently e-mailing you on this inquiry. Your diet MUST CHANGE! Consider full fledged RAW FOODS and VEGAN diet during your healing transition. Lactaid milk is HORRIBLE for you. Did you read our â€FIBROID TUMORS†article?????? You need to keep on performing FULL BODY DETOX followed by Fibroid Buster kit and regimen, back to back! Continuously! Detoxing must become a lifestyle for you! For iron, consider Dherbs.Com IRON PHOSPHATE FORMULA and MOON CYCLE FORMULA. Also, consider a telephone consultation because time is greatly limited in writing back in response to inquiries. There is much healing for you, Beloved!

Q: Hello Sir. I seek your recommendation for the following challenges I am facing. I tried "Colonix" cleansing system 1.5 years ago and the results were damaging. I had a bowel movement (BM) which I felt travel down my intestine like it was brillo. The result was a BM surrrounded with a thin coating of blood. I was shocked!!! I had always been fairly regular with my BM's 2-3x per day with occassional constipation during PMS time but since that "cleanse" I have been reduced to 1x a day maybe, hard as rocks and I am now a regular user of laxatives(which I do not like at all!!) Aside from that, I have gained 60 pounds and I am having a difficult time losing the weight. Prior to the "cleanse" I had NEVER had a weight problem nor BM problem. I have a regular DR. whom has stated I have no health issues, just the need to lose this weight. 2nd topic: I had an STD when I was 17 yo (37 now) which damaged my fallopian tubes. I have had 2 pregnancies 1 prior to and 1 after the STD, the latter resulted in a total abdominal pregnancy and the pregnancy (20 weeks) had to be terminated. I have not been pregnant since. The DR. removed 1 tube & ovary and stated the remaining tube was damaged. I went on the pill for many years, as not to repeat that experience, and have now been pill free for 2 years, not preventing pregnancy in any way, yet not becoming pregnant. I believe my body can heal itself with the proper natural remedy as I do not trust Western Medicine as a first choice. I have read many of the testimonials and have heard your ad's and believe in your philosiphy for better health. I would like to try your products but do not know where to begin. Please help. Thank you,

Our products differ due to what we use, how we formulate the herbs, and how we have you take them. The difference is in their efficacy, so the best way to know is to give them a try. You have nothing to lose and all to gain!

Q: What is a good natural herbal remedy for a 5 year old with Spinia Bifida? I currently catherized my son 3-4 times daily. I'm seeking a remedy to prevent UTI's without placing him on a antibioctic regimen. I'm also interested in a great remedy for insuring that he has effective bowel movements, without giving him harsh laxatives. Any assistance you can provide me would be highly appreciated. I am on a fixed income and can not afford certain Western medicines.

    A:

I highly recommend our DHERBS.COM Children's Detox Kit. This detox has many formulas that will greatly benefit your son. Q: I am in need of cleansing my body and weight removal! (Removal and not loss because I don't want to find it again)! I need to remove about 80 pounds of unhealthy weight from my body and would like to do so in a natural way. I looked at both your Female Cleanse and the Full Body Cleanse, but don't know which is a better option for me to follow right now? I eat a lot of organic foods, I juice (some) but need to increase my water intake (A LOT). I don't drink much soda at all and when I do it is organic carbonated lemonade. I realize carbonated drinks are not good for us and limit how much I drink. My body lets me know when I have eaten something that is not good for me by causing my hands and feet to swell. To reduce this I drink water. I am allergic to wheat and try to stay away from it as much as possible. I have few ailments and have started working out again (cardio and weight training). I also looked at your weight loss products, but thought I should maybe detox first. What do you think? Any assistance you can offer on your products and which ones I should take is of great appreciation.

A: The best thing for you is the Full Body Cleanse. The Full Body Cleanse will allow you to remove unwanted weight, while also optimizing your entier body so that you can maintain that weight and live a healthier lifestyle.

Q: I am interested in the COLON FORMULA. I do not have a problem with constipation, but about twice a year I use an over the counter product just for cleansing purposes. I have a concern about the harshness of this product, and the walnut hulls. Are you speaking of the most hard outer shell or the inner husk?

    A:

How do you know there is harshness with the product when you've never tried it? Try a natural thing as freely as you have tried UNNATURAL things. Be fair and unbiased against nature! Black Walnut Hull is the outer hull, pulverized of course. Think positive and you will attract positive. Think results and you will attract results!

Q: I have experienced dramatic hair loss in the last 7 months. The Dr.'s says it's stress. I have since eliminated stress, started working out, detoxing (ionic foot bath), and eliminating the bad foods. I have been known to eat excessively in the past. Im just not sure, if it is not my hormones off track, because of the poor diet, then what. Although, I believe that poor diet leads to any illness now. I would like to find one product that can focus on the bigger picture for me which is complete well being to STOP the hair loss and grow my hair back as thick and strong as it has always been. When the hair loss started I noticed constipation at the same time. The constipation is slowly getting better, but the hair loss really concerns me. I am a model, and my hair is my trademark. Do you know of any reputable naturalpaths in Atlanta? Is there a product of yours that you could suggest?

    A:

Usually, the hormones are out of balance, usually the ovaries. Hair loss is a sign of degeneracy at the sexual reproductive level. Rebuild the endocrine system. Start by cleansing the body. Start by detoxing (Full Body Detox) followed by performing the Total Woman Cleanse. Also, learn to focus on what you desire (beautiful and healthy hair) and not what you don't want (hair fallout, hair problems). Our Mental Science Manual is good reading for healing with the mind in addition to herbs and other things.

Q: Is sea salt and warm water a good natural laxative? If so how often do you recommend the use of sea salt for elimination? I was reading The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs and it gives this recommendation, along with drinking lemon water mixed with organic syrup and cayenne pepper. Is it safe to give myself an enema 2xs per day using a hot water bottle filled with fresh squeezed organic lemon and distilled water? Asking this because Bzod had me to listen to 88.3 today here in Cincinnati and the guy (Mike) was telling how he does this regularly and has great results.

    A:

Yes, sea salt in water is a mild laxative!

You can do it as often as you FEEL the need to drink or take it.

You can also consume the Master Cleanse (cayenne, maple syrup, lemon juice) if you choose. You can drink this as much as you like depending on how you feel.

And yes, you can perform enemas 2X a day! Enemas are very helpful for health!

Q: I have been using this product for about a week and there are days when I do not have a bowel movement. I have started having gas and cramps. The days that I do have bowel movements it is hard as if I am constipated. This product has not worked for me at all. Please Help.

    A:

IT'S NOT THE HERBS, IT'S YOUR BODY! YOU COLON IS GREATLY IMPAIRED AND SO IT TAKES TIME TO BUST UP ALL THAT CRUDE MATTER (HARD FECES) IN YOUR COLON. NATURAL HEALING REQUIRES PATIENCE. JUST KEEP TAKING YOUR HERBS AND KEEP EATING HEALTHY (NO MEAT, DAIRY, REFINED GRAINS, REFINED STARCHES). HOPEFULLY YOU CHANGED YOUR DIET IN ADDITION TO TAKING THE HERBS. THAT HELPS!
