The Pros And Cons Of A Salt Water Flush

salt-water-flush-recipe

Colon cleansing has become a popular way to remove toxins and waste from the body. The primary goals are typically to improve overall health, digestion, and to release excess weight. Salt water flushes are commonly practiced to rid the colon of waste, but mixed reviews and the overall safety of this process can make people hesitant or nervous.

As with anything that involves your health, it is always best to do thorough research before attempting it. In the case of the salt water flush, many people report weight loss, release of fluid retention, and improved gut health via forced bowel movements. Not everyone benefits from salt water flushes, though. In fact, many people can experience dehydration, vomiting, overall weakness, and imbalanced electrolytes. The success of a salt water cleanse will depend entirely on each individual and the inner-workings of his or her body.

What Is A Salt Water Flush?

The body needs salt to complete biochemical processes, including cell wall stability, muscle contractions, nutrient absorption, pH balance, and adrenal and thyroid gland function. The idea behind mixing salt into drinking water is a way to stimulate the body’s ability to naturally cleanse itself and eliminate waste. The goal is to get one’s health back on track, feel lighter, and be less weighed down by the waste that exists in the digestive tract. The build-up of waste is often attributed to poor diet, which can lead to constipation, digestive issues, low energy, and chronic inflammation. Roughly 20% of the American population suffers from regular constipation, thus explaining the piqued interest in the many forms of cleansing.

What Does A Salt Water Flush Do To The Body?

Salt is often perceived in a negative light, primarily because people consume table salt and other sodium-rich foods that contribute to high blood pressure. Real sea salt, on the other hand, should exist in every person’s diet. Sea salt does contain a lot of sodium, but it is balanced out by the inherent minerals, including magnesium, potassium, calcium, and over 60 additional trace minerals. Now, it is not recommended to drink salt water all the time because the kidneys and bladder would cause a greater loss of water than supplied to the body. Sea salt activates the enzymes that are responsible for digestive processes, which is why people turn to salt water flushes. Some other benefits are listed below:

  • Clears up digestive issues
  • Lowers pains in inflamed muscles
  • Eases sore throats
  • Reduces water retention
  • Supplies the body with trace minerals
  • Helps balance hormones and electrolytes
  • Encourages healthy metabolic processes

How To Do A Salt Water Flush:

According to many anecdotal reports, it is optimal to perform a salt water flush in the morning on an empty stomach. This will completely depend on your personal schedule, but flushing the body prior to eating is ideal. The flush takes about two hours from the moment you drink the salt water until you finish emptying your bowels. Be sure to allow yourself enough time to use the bathroom several times before you leave the house, or do a salt water flush on your day off. It is best to do this once every couple weeks to encourage the production of healthy bacteria in your microbiome.

Salt Water Flush Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • glass jar with lid
  • 1 liter hot filtered water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Instructions:

  • Heat up the water in a large saucepan, but don’t boil it. Remove from the heat and pour it into the glass jar.
  • Add the sea salt and fresh lemon juice to the water, screw on the cap, and shake the jar to combine. Alternatively, you can stir the mixture with a mixing spoon to dissolve the salt in the water.
  • Drink the entire mixture in five minutes if possible.
  • Lay on your side and massage one side of your stomach. Roll to the other side and repeat.
  • Shortly after consuming the mixture, you should feel an urge to use the restroom. You may have to go more than once, occasionally needing to use the restroom for a couple hours to completely eliminate intestinal waste.

The Risks Associated With A Salt Water Flush:

The salt water flush is not for every person, and each person will have to choose to try or not try the flush at his or her own will. As with all forms of cleansing, some side effects can occur. It is quite possible to experience dehydration, due to the complete evacuation of your bowels. According to several gastroenterologists, salt water flushes can induce lots of diarrhea, causing the complete emptying of fluids, which can leave you in a dehydrated state. If you perform a salt water flush, make sure to sufficiently hydrate throughout the day to replenish your fluids. A salt water flush can also cause an electrolyte imbalance, commonly associated with dehydration. When the body is in an over-hydrated or dehydrated state, problems can occur, disrupting the delicate balance of electrolytes. One can also experience vomiting or muscle aches.

Before trying the salt water flush, be sure to do your research and see if it is right for you. Some people are more toxic and others and may require this style of cleansing to fully eliminate waste.

Q: Is sea salt and warm water a good natural laxative? If so how often do you recommend the use of sea salt for elimination? I was reading The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs and it gives this recommendation, along with drinking lemon water mixed with organic syrup and cayenne pepper. Is it safe to give myself an enema 2xs per day using a hot water bottle filled with fresh squeezed organic lemon and distilled water? Asking this because Bzod had me to listen to 88.3 today here in Cincinnati and the guy (Mike) was telling how he does this regularly and has great results.

    A:

Yes, sea salt in water is a mild laxative!

You can do it as often as you FEEL the need to drink or take it.

You can also consume the Master Cleanse (cayenne, maple syrup, lemon juice) if you choose. You can drink this as much as you like depending on how you feel.

And yes, you can perform enemas 2X a day! Enemas are very helpful for health!

Q: Dasani water, if I remember correctly, was banned from the U.K. It contains salt as well as potassium chloride. Essentia contains calcium chloride, as well as sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulfate, dipotassium phosphate. Are all the ingredients in Essentia safe? One would have do an independent test on the water. Dasani is crap and I no longer drink Essentia but it would be my brand of choice of bottled water if I was to purchase water again.

    A:

Personally I have an alkaline-antioxidant water machine (Neptune brand) that produces alkaline, antioxidant, oxygenate, mineralized water that is made in Asia.

Q: Thanks for the great web site! MY question is what's the best way to get sodium. I thought un-refined sea salt was the best, but the salt article says "eat this salt only if you must." The great thing about pure sea salt is that it all or almost all the minerals the body needs! So what's the best way to get all the mineral and to stay in balance? Also is there a way to get Epsom salt that is sodium sulfate not magnesium sulfate? Is it a good idea to bath in the "good" Epsom salt.

    A:

    You're welcome, Beloved!

The best way to get sodium is via vegetables (i.e. celery).

Sea salt is great source of sodium, but its a secondary source as it has to be processed from ocean water. Absent the process, it would not be available.

But it does provide minute amounts of trace elements.

In re Epsom salt, I haven't been able to find the sodium one.

I stopped using Epsom salt many years ago.

You could bath in the good Epsom salt, but sea salt is far better and more natural.

Q: My wife started the Master Cleanse two days ago. During the first day when she drank the sea salt water she vomited several times. Today the second day she feels dizzy, and she has been laying down all day. Her bowels have been moving, but not like they do normally. Is it the salt water the issue?

    A:

Yes, it is! Herbs are better!

Q: My son has been presented with tonsil stones. Some of the literature recommended salt water gargles. One recommended fenugreek tea. I was wondering what you might have available to rid him of this. Thanks!

    A:

You should do the salt water gargle as well as the fenugreek tea but the problem stems from diet (especially refined grains). Go more fruits and vegetables in his diet! Make sure he chews his food well too! Give all of this a try!

Q: I love to drink water, but I like to drink hot water you know boiling water slightly cooled. Is there a benefit, or disadvantage to this compared to drinking room temperature water? Secondly, the water I drink is boiled water. Alkaline water is not a privilege most Kenyans have. If 56% of the population is living below poverty line you do the math. So the water I drink is tap water, that I boil to make it safe for drinking. When I get to work I have Alkaline water as my work place provides me with that provision. I think this is detailed enough for you to get the picture and help. Once again (I love you) in Swahili for spreading the gospel!

    A:

No difference at all, Beloved! Even the boiled water becomes room temperature water. You're doing fine! Thank you for your words as well! Much appreciated! Peace and Love!

Q: I would like to know if what I'm doing is okay. This is way before we found dherbs site and the products on the internet. We read on the internet that drinking a teaspoon of natural black sea salt or any sea salt in 32oz warm water every morning is good for bowel movement. We have been doing it for awhile now. Is it too much to take it with your products? I lost some weight after my FULL BODY DETOX but not too much on my stomach. What do you recommend l should use to get rid of the tummy area? I bought FIBROID BUSTER TEA I am I drinking it because l feel there is Fibroids down there. Should l also continue taking my BUNNY RABBIT formula with Fibroid tea? In my last email l mentioned my husband had mild stroke. Now he's having spasms all over his body especially when he's sleeping at night. Why is he having it and what else can he use for that? We are using all these wonderful products on the inside and still have un-even skin. Is it okay to use AMBI products for more youthful skin then detox every four months? If not, when are we going to see your skin products on the market?

    A:

We don't recommend the drinking of sea salt. For tummy reduction: exercise (perform abs, sit ups) and take BOWEL MOVER and WEIGHT RELEASE FORMULA. You can take your herbs and tea together. No big deal! Spasms? Clearly the â€HEALING CRISIS†(read the article by this same title). The skin will improve in time. Don't focus on it!

Q: I've been a vegan for 2 years now. I've done the FBD 3 times in these two years, but my urine is still yellow. The only time it is clear is immediately after I drink water (reverse osmosis water). If I miss a day of drinking water, my urine goes back to being dark yellow. Does this mean that my body is still very toxic? Also, is it normal to release urine 5 to 15 minutes after drinking liquids? I would think that water would need to stay in the body for awhile for proper hydration and cleansing.

    A:

From what you wrote I would suggest you start drinking alkaline water (purchase an alkaline water machine, you can find various brands in our e-book "Alternative Diet and Lifestyle Manual"). If you are urinating within 10-15 minutes of drinking water you are not absorbing the water, and thus you require micro-clustered water which an alkaline (and ionizing) water machine does. I also highly recommend consumption of our Kidneys-Bladder formula (3 capsules per day).

Q: I purchesed both the FULL BODY DETOX and the ANTI-VIRAL CLEANSE AND REGIMEN. During week 3 of the Detox, I had a significant herpes breakout on by buttocks. Therefore, I opened the anti-viral kit and started doing the bath with the sea salt and the oil etc, and used it all up with in a week. Maybe I used too much but everything healed up well. Now I am into the first week of the Anti-Viral kit and on day 3 a small breakout started, but I am out of the Oil and roll on. Do you have a suggestion of something else I can put into the bath water besides the sea salt? I have some tea tree oil. I tried to purchase some Melissa oil, but could not find it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    A:

Use tea tree oil, lavender oil, etc. in your bath water. Add hydrogen peroxide (1 cup) as well. You can oil down with OZ OIL after the bath!

Q: I am currently on the ANTI-VIRAL CLEANSE AND REGIMEN after being done with the FULL BODY DETOX. My question is in regards to the 45 min bath. Can I use regular bath tap water for this bath I read somewhere that the use of chlorine water can lead to chlorine absobtion and that is not good for you. I am currently taking a bath in 2 box of sea salt, 5 drops or virus buster and 2 cups of 35% hydrogen peroxide. Please advice if this is right or am I harming myself in anyway with my combination.

    A:

If you can filter the water, do so! This is best! If you can't, don't worry about it!

Q: I am a 55 year old female. I have an overactive bladder. I am trying to control it myself, without medication. I have not tried herbs. I eat fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins (not beef or pork). I added back more meat proteins 1 1/2 years ago because I was becoming so tired and lacking energy. (I read The Schwartzbein Diet, which helped convince me to add more protein.) I don't eat much sugar, salt (only 500 mg./day) or hardly any processed foods. I drink water and licorice tea, because it makes me feel good. I believe in the power of positive thinking. Can you help me with this?

    A:

The steps you are taking in your diet are a great start. Try going raw, and eliminating grains and meat altogether. You can get enough protein and healthy fats with avocado, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, almonds, brazil nuts, coconut. You can also add Vegan Protein Powder to smoothies.

I also recommend you give our Full Body Cleanse a try to further detoxify your entire body. After detoxing, the ideal formula for you is our Kidneys Bladder-Adrenal formula.

It's not the same water but it will do!

Q: I am writing you to see if you have any information and remedies for hemorrhoids. I am a Black African male in my 40's. I have changed my diet for the last 3 yrs., no meat, fish, cheese, milk, no dairy, no alcohol, no bread, greatly decreased sugar and salt. I exercise 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week, drink at least 6 glasses of water a day and take lots of vitamin c and a multivitamin but I still have not been able to get rid of the hemorrhoids. Also the hemorrhoids only come out when I have a bowel movement. I have bowel movements twice a day. Also, I have been taking horse chestnut tincture. Is there anything that you know of that might help me to get rid of them. Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Truthfully, thank you very much.

    A:

Try our 10-Day Supreme Colon Cleanser. After the cleanse, take 3 capsules of Hemorrhoid Buster 2-3 times daily. Drink 1 cup of Aloe Vera juice daily.

Q: My fiance has experienced water retention and discoloration in his right foot and leg for around 2 years. Doctors had him on water pills, coreg for vascular issues and glyberide for high blood sugars. He ordered the Pancreas kit and around a week into the program experienced more swelling in the foot and leg. He stopped the program to resume taking the water pill to see if this would help. He has gained around 12 lbs which is water held in this leg. I know the natural way of good nutrition and herbs is a good course to follow but can you offer some suggestions to help these issues. 1. water retention 2. His stomach rumbles and gurgles 24 hours a day to the point where I thought our neighbors were dragging furniture across the floor. This has caused him considerable embarrassment at work. We are eating a vegan diet about 50% raw-50%-cooked. Oddly enough when he eats a standard American diet the rumbling stops. 3. High blood pressure. Thank you so much for answering my previous letter to you. I believe in what you are doing, and know that the body will heal at it's own pace with proper care. I have resolved a urinary problem just a week into your Detox program and think it's great.

    A:

Your husband is NOT getting proper circulation to his extremities. He should have not stopped the Pancreas kit because it is common for things to get worse before better. He should have judged himself after the kit was finished in 3-weeks. He experienced the HEALING CRISIS and stopped! He should complete the kit and regimen (perhaps even starting over).

His stomach is making noises because he's having digestive problems. He needs to eat as much raw foods as possible and rink plenty of vegetable juice. SAD foods stops his stomach from gurgling because that's what's in his stomach; and when he does not give his stomach what it wants (a sign of fasting and cleansing), he hear the noise from his stomach. Again, the healing crisis. Things will get worse before they get better. However, you don't stop!

High blood pressure is due to his toxic state and poor circulation!

Have him perform the Full Body Detox and right after the Full Body Detox, the Pancreas kit and regimen.

    There's healing from him!

Please peruse some of our free articles so as to truly learn what's going on with his/your bodies pertaining to healing.

Q: I am in need of cleansing my body and weight removal! (Removal and not loss because I don't want to find it again)! I need to remove about 80 pounds of unhealthy weight from my body and would like to do so in a natural way. I looked at both your Female Cleanse and the Full Body Cleanse, but don't know which is a better option for me to follow right now? I eat a lot of organic foods, I juice (some) but need to increase my water intake (A LOT). I don't drink much soda at all and when I do it is organic carbonated lemonade. I realize carbonated drinks are not good for us and limit how much I drink. My body lets me know when I have eaten something that is not good for me by causing my hands and feet to swell. To reduce this I drink water. I am allergic to wheat and try to stay away from it as much as possible. I have few ailments and have started working out again (cardio and weight training). I also looked at your weight loss products, but thought I should maybe detox first. What do you think? Any assistance you can offer on your products and which ones I should take is of great appreciation.

A: The best thing for you is the Full Body Cleanse. The Full Body Cleanse will allow you to remove unwanted weight, while also optimizing your entier body so that you can maintain that weight and live a healthier lifestyle.

Q: I have been off the full body cleanse for about a month, what I have noticed, when I haven't drank the amount of water needed, my anus begins to hurt as if I have heroics, I cannot wipe without having pain. I drink water, it seems all is fine. I ate fried chicken for the first time, in 3 months, and agin notice pain. So, I need the water, but what I explained, does it sounds right. I have been eating more veggies and fruit, in the last couple days, as well.

    A:

Keep drinking plenty of water and start taking Dherbs' Intestinal Cleanser, and Bowel Motion. They will help to get rid of your hemorrhoidal condition.

Q: I just ordered the FULL BODY DETOX and I know there's a dietary regimen that I will have to follow. I was wondering if you would approve of a protein shake that consist of (raw hemp protein powder, raw almond butter, sea salt, flax seed, 100% young coconut water & meat inside the coconut, raw carob powder,) (optional soy or rice milk or soy or rice cream)

    A:

Doesn't sound like it will mess up your FULL BODY DETOX. Go for it! But leave out the rice/soy cream! The rice milk is okay (but it is processed/cooked)!

Q: I'm on the Weight Release kit. I'm drinking the water and making sure that I drink a glass full each time I take one of the product. But at present I'm very bloated and not having a bowel movement. Could you please tell me what I need to do? This is not a good feeling.

    A:

Drink some herbal laxative tea (i.e. senna, cascara sagrada, Smooth Move, etc.) and a cup of prune juice 1-3 times daily. You may also try performing an enema. What you're feeling is natural. The bloating will soon give way to numerous bulky bowel movements.
