October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National No Bra Day lands on October 13th. Given that one in eight U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer at some point in life, National No Bra Day encourages women to carry out regular self-examinations and screenings to identify the symptoms and raise awareness about breast cancer.
In 2018, roughly 266,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in the U.S. Due to the viral nature of social media, National No Bra Day has gained extreme popularity within the past seven years. Many women have used the hashtag #nobraday, going braless to support the cause. This day comes at a perfect time, considering Harvard University just released a study indicating that regular consumption of processed meats can increase a woman’s risk of breast cancer by 9%.
Most women are taught that wearing a bra is a societal norm that should not be broken. The pro-bra mentality needs to be broken and women should be able to ditch the brassiere whenever they please. Not wearing a bra has some amazing benefits , some of which are detailed below.
Improve Breast Health
The tightness around the chest area can reduce circulation, due to the compression of essential blood vessels. A French study revealed that women who did not wear bras had improved breast circulation and perkiness. Bras may not be the worst thing to ever come into existence, but not wearing a bra can help reduce the risk of rashes, acne, or infections that can stem from sweat or dirt being trapped between the skin and bra.
Improve Breast Shape
The aforementioned French study proved that not wearing a bra can actually help to maintain natural breast shape. Consistently wearing a bra weakens chest muscles, which causes the breasts to droop and lose their natural shape. You can keep breasts rounder and perkier by letting them be.
Encourage Healthy Breast Tissue
Wearing a bra may hinder a woman’s ability to continually produce healthy breast tissue. The regeneration of healthy breast tissue is integral for reducing the risk of developing breast cancer or other breast diseases. Healthy breast tissue helps the breasts retain breast muscle strength, and it can lead to stronger, rounder, and perkier breasts.
Leave the bras behind, ladies, and embrace the freedom and benefits of not wearing a bra. You can make every day National No Bra Day, or you can ditch the brassiere whenever you feel like it. It’s important to continue raising awareness about breast cancer and continue educating the masses on how to recognize the symptoms. Try thermography for the best early detection.
