Q: What's the best way to start on a vegan/raw food diet? I am not sure what to eat to make sure I would get a nutritious diet-you may not be able to go into that much detail but how can I get sample meal plans for breakfast, lunch and dinner incorporating this type of diet-perhaps there is somewhere on the web I find something like this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    A:

If I do say myself, the best way to start a raw food diet is to be coached by me. I run a 6 month health coaching program that is 60-90 percent raw and 100 percent vegan/gluten free/ allergy free. You can find out more about my program at www.theveganeffect.com. I am running a special of half off my program if you sign up before march 1st.

Here are some other tips to get started.

1: Join a raw food meetup group or community. Surround yourself with supportive people who can point you in the right direction. Try meetup.org or 30bananasaday.com

2: Read books like "beauty detox solution" by snyder, "80/10/10" by Dr. Graham., or "The Paradigm diet" by Adam Dave

3: Start simple with breakfast. Always start your day with a green smoothie. read "Green smoothie revolution" by forget authors name at the moment. heh.

A sample meal plan would be.

    Breakfast: Green smoothie

Bridge: raw bar, handful of nuts or seeds, or fruit

Lunch: Raw wraps made from collard greens. use a base of tahini, hummus, or nut butter. Fill with sprouts and colorful veggies

Bridge: raw bar, handful nuts or seeds, or fruit

Dinner: Raw pasta with a large salad

    Snack: Sorbet

Q: I am just becoming a vegan going on 20 years in June, and it takes a lot of discipline. I was wondering if you knew any good recipes for some good vegan style dishes. I really want to establish a vegan restaurant. I have purchased your Alternative Diet and Lifestyle Manual, and I know its healthier to eat vegan. But, I also understand its not the healthiest due to soy products. Is their still away to satisfy my appetite and well being at the same time?

Q: Hey Gary, I've heard a lot of hype about the paleo diet. I'm a vegan. Is the paleo diet a diet you would recommend? Can it work with vegan lifestyle? Thanks!

    A:

Sorry for the late response, This one got kind of lost in my emails. Thanks for your question.

The Paleo diet.... something nice.... something nice.... heh.

The Paleo diet emphasizes drinking water and eating local/organic food. They shun dairy, processed food, and grains. I agree.

I disagree with just about everything else. For paleo theory to be correct Vegans either have to not exist or be doing very poorly. Wrong on both accounts. They say vegans just can't get enough protein or that we are missing x,y,z in our diets. Never mind that every major paleo website sells the supplements they say only vegans are deficient in. "Vegans don't get enough protein so eat meat and then buy our protein powder supplements. Vegans don't get enough omega 3's so just eat fish and while you are at it buy our krill oil supplements." And so on. The paleo diet is just the low carb diet re-branded. Here are the results of long term low carb eating. http://www.pcrm.org/health/reports/analysis-of-health-problems-associated-with-high.

Vegans are doing extremely well and in most long term studies Vegans end up on top in both health and longevity.

    Also see this video http://nutritionfacts.org/video/paleolithic-lessons/

They claim carbohydrates make you fat and that the more you eat the more you weigh. Why then do the 80-10-10 crowd all appear not only all thin but extremely healthy? Carbohydrates are your bodies main source of fuel. Preferred source. Every cell in your body runs on glucose. The human body is amazing. The is a secondary source of energy in case of starvation, or glucose deprived. The body starts to burn fat as fuel known as keytosis. This was only meant as a way to keep the body running during famine. However the paleo people think this is a preferred state to be in. It's not. Look up keto-acidosis. Could be deadly. The bottom line is that people will always be looking forward to the latest fad that tells them "good things about their bad habits".

My Diet program that I run follows a high carb/low fat/high alkaline/high raw protocol.  All my client reach remarkable health results.

I could go on forever, but I think you get the point. Let me know if you have anything else to add to this discussion.

Q: I've been eating vegan (mostly raw) for nearly 2 years. In the first year, I lost about 60 pounds. I still have about 50 more to lose and it hasn't budged in almost a year. I hear conflicting info about what sort of exercise would be best - cardio vs. strength. And any time I up my exercise, my hunger gets out of control. Any suggestions?

    A:

Thanks for the question. The most efficient way to lose weight from working out are high rep/low weight circuit training and through HIIT (high intensity interval training).

Your goal should be to increase metabolism and fat burning potential throughout the day. Both HIIT and circuit weight training are both effective. To be maximized you should exercise for 1 hour 5-6 times a week. You could alternate between cardio days and circuit training days. Here is an example.

    Mon: HIIT

    Tues: Circuit training

    Wed: rest

    Thurs: HIIT

    Fri: Circuit training

    Sat: HIIT

    Sun: Rest

Here is an example of a circuit and  HIIT

Circuit. 15-20 reps 1 minute rest between sets. repeat for 20-30 minutes. (feel free to use the template and build your own)

    Upper: pushups

    Lower: Squats

    Core: Crunches

    Plyo: Burpees

Upper: Clean and press or curl to press

    Lower: Alternating weighted lunges

    Core: Reverse crunches

    Plyo: Step ups

HIIT (can be done on almost any cardio machine)

    3 minute warmup

    -30 second sprint

    -1 minute recovery

*Repeat for 15 minutes to 30 minutes*

    3 minute cool down

Top fat loss mistakes for cardio and weight training

Cardio: Doing 1 speed with no resistance cardio. This kills me. Your fat burning potential begins and ends when you do. If it doesn't challenge you it will not change you. Atleast put the resistance on mountain or random.

Weight: Resting too long in between sets. Super sets are key here. Work one set while resting the other. Example of a superset is chest press and seated row together. Quad machine and ham machine. Pullup and shoulder press.

When you ramp up your metabolism you are going to have to eat more. Losing weight isn't about calories. Losing weight is about nutrient density. Here is a blog I did on eating for fitness and getting lean. http://the-vegan-effect.healthcoach.integrativenutrition.com/blog/2012/05/qa-eating-for-fitness-getting-lean

Q: I see also that you recommend a complete diet with these programs. I am guessing its a vegan diet right? I wanted to ask something on that is coconut milk and coconut oils ok for that? I personally had a very hard time trying to eat that many vegetables and many ph balance vegans seem to think fruits aren?t good either. I eat that many vegetables one it tears me up the next day and two I just cant consume enough calories that way. I can try and make up for it by eating things like almonds but I eat to many almonds I get the same problem the next day. Now coconut milk (unsweetened) and a digestive enzyme works for me for picking up extra calories.... but I hear very conflicting information about coconut and its saturated fat content. Is it ok to use daily as a part of the diet for cleansing? And your oxy-drops are those the same as the drop for ph balancing water?? Or is it something different? I am wanting to start lifting weights as I need to put on some muscle and I?m wondering if its something that would be beneficial in combating muscle soreness by increased oxygen in the body.

    A:

The diet we recommend is vegan-based, and RAW FOODS. Fresh fruits, vegetables, raw nuts and seeds are ideal.

Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil are excellent products to have in your diet. The healthy fats will keep you fuller.

Oxy-Drops can help balance your electrolytes that need to be replenished after a workout in order to keep your body performing efficiently.

Q: Hello, I am worried about my tongue because it has never been totally pink in years and it always seems to have a white cover over it. I use a tongue scraper, not consistently. I have been vegetarian for years but I recently began eating more of raw vegan diet (11 months). I'm assuming it is mucus or bacteria? Can you help?

    A:

When you have a white coating on the tongue, it denotes the colon is taxed due to poor diet (consuming too many dead foods) and needs to be cleansed. The tongue is a part of the alimentary canal. I would suggest you perform the FULL BODY DETOX followed by the 10-DAY SUPREME COLON CLEANSE.

Q: Can you detox with the diet and not take the pills. Just by eating the raw vegetables?

    A:

A raw foods diet will provide detoxification benefits, even without the herbal supplements. Giving your body a break from processed foods for a duration can initiate body healing.

Q: I don't know if you remember or know, but there was a Vegan Couple that had a newborn baby, and the baby had died from what seemed to be a lack a of nutrients because the couple fed the baby a vegan diet. If you remember this, what do you think went wrong.

    A:

The couple was from Atlanta! What went wrong is that while they were well-intentioned, they were ignorant, ignorant to true nutrition. They fed the baby soy milk, and soy milk does not contain nutrition. They didn't supplement the soy milk with nutrition which they could have done with herbs such as alfalfa, Irish Moss, Iceland Moss, etc.

Q: I am interested in starting the Full Body Detox program. At this time, I would like to know which program is best for me. At current, I have started removing things from my diet as of 2 weeks ago (pork, chicken, red meat, I'm trying with the fish but it's hard!) I am not eating cheese but I still eat yogurt and every now and then I will eat a boiled egg (egg whites). I have removed soda from my diet, no coffee, I drink herbal or green tea, pomegranate juice or orange juice and I drink filtered water (I have a countertop filter that I change every 6 months and the Brita pitcher that I change every 2 months). Along with the supplement, is there an eating plan that you can suggest for me? I am eating more fruits and vegetables, but I would welcome suggestions on certain foods that I can eat while I begin my cleansing.

    A:

The Full Body Detox kit comes with a prescribed dietary plan and notifies a person what they can and cannot eat during the detox.

Q: I am not sure if I am looking to go vegan, but I am doing the weight loss cleanse and do feel a difference in my body. My question is how do I keep up eating raw without getting bored? Can you recommend meal replacements and exercises.

    A:

You should absolutely consider going vegan for your long term health, the health of the planet, and of course sparing countless animals from suffering. I have been vegan for over five years and they have been the best of my life! My health program www.theveganeffect.com is a huge success!

With that being said, the best way to keep from getting bored is to eat a variety of fruits and veggies. The main meals of a basic raw food eater is smoothies, soups, collard green wraps, and raw pasta made with zucchini instead of pasta.

You can find more recipes on my page or at http://foodnsport.com/recipes/

Q: I'm a 28 year old male with big dreams and high aspirations. However, I've been dealing with issues of sustained motivation, and fear for the past 10 years. As a result my life has suffered socially, and financially. I see many people around me getting ahead, but I seem to be trailing behind at every step. The hardest task I think I deal with is keeping my life in balance, and staying focused with all I desire to do. I've struggled with changing my beliefs about myself and reprogramming my mind for success for a long time.

    A:

You have some inner blocks that are holding you back. The problems are recorded in your chakras and thus you should have chakra work performed by a qualified (doesn't mean "certified"), and trusted energy healer. Instead of focusing on keeping your life in balance, focus on what you desire to do only. I really suggest that you read my e-book manuals: "The Money, Wealth, and Prosperity Manual", "The Mental Science Manual", and the new "Discovering Your Life's Higher Purpose" (highly recommended). I can totally relate to what you're saying and experiencing! You're just blocked! You may have some vital information stored in your natal chart as well. You need an inner diagnosis performed. If you order all the tools named above, I will give you the consultation for free so we can nail down the location(s) of the inner blockages. You very well may be blocked at the First, and Third chakras. Fear is stored in the First chakra, just to let you know. You can be helped, Beloved! Stay positive, and focus on your desires. Like I state in the "Mental Science Manual", play in your mind! Live in it and miraculously the things stored in the mind, and constantly played out will manifest.

Q: Hello I have been taking the fibroid cleanse for 11 days now i am also doing the Strick Vegan diet. within the 11 days i got my period but did not notice any difference still had a heavy flow & cramps. after my period was gone about 4days later ( and this actual moment) i have been having sudden but yet quick piercing pain on the right side of my abdomen. ( i dont know what that means) questions: 1. should i be feeling any kind of cramping feeling on my abdomen? 2. should i have been still having a heavy flow? 3. can i continue w/the fibroid cleanse after the 20 days? 4. how soon should i go see my GYN doctor for an ultra sound, MRI or cat scan to see if there has been a change? Thank you in advance.

    A:

The symptoms associated with the breaking down of the tumor can vary as everyone’s body is different. Some people experience heavier or lighter menses, cramps, increase in discharge or no symptoms at all. You should continue with the cleanse until it’s over and perform some of the natural remedies listed in the book, especially the castor oil packs. The same amount of time it took for the tumor to develop should be considered for the breaking down of the fibroid. You can repeat the cleanse or continue with the Fibroid Formula depending on the size of the fibroids. We suggest giving your body a chance to process the changes, getting an ultra sound only monitors the size of the tumor. The diet that you should be following is raw vegan. It’s important for your body to benefit from the foods within the diet. Cooking foods takes out the nutrients and enzymes that are beneficial to our bodies, so eating food in it’s most natural state is best.

Q: First, I want to thank you for your time the other evening. Your information was very informative and helpful. Next, I have a few questions pertaining to the detox and the other services you provide. 1. Will going from a traditional American diet to a raw food diet cause my body to become ill in the beginning or go into "shock" from all the good foods I'll be eating? If so, is there any way to ease in to this plan?

A: While your body may experience a change as a result of the raw foods diet, you will not experience any adverse symptoms. Our products are 100% all-natural and only enhance your body.

Q: My question is I use to have a very caramel complexion or fair complexion when I was in West Africa. Ghana. But when I move USA out here over the course of the years my complexion has change drastically from fair to totally dark. Do you know why this happen? And what can I do to retain my color back. My second question is recently I notice some sort of bumps around the low part of my eye on both side. It’s about couple of them. I don't know why. It keep disappearing and coming back again. Any way I can make my eyes look whiter and brighter. My eye color looks like orange or yellowish and I don't smoke but drink socially. Help me out.

    A:

Change of climate, Beloved. You went from a healthy environment to an unhealthy one. You are having eye problems because there is something you need to see that you have been unable or unwilling to see so far. It could be on the emotional level, logical level, etc. but it pertains to some area of your life. The whites of your eyes are yellowish because your liver is toxic. Clean your liver - consider performing the FULL BODY DETOX.

Q: What do you tell someone that believes that eating meat is better than eating products not made of meat such as wheat pasta, brown rice, etc. My wife eats way too much meat, and she always says that she needs it for the protein. She doesn't work out or exercise regularly so I see it as just an excuse to continue the same old behavior. She's 5'6" and 205lbs and I think she should weigh 140 - 145 max.
