Q: Hi, I am a 59 yr old female who has diabetes and weighs aprox. 425 lbs. I also have Lymphedema along with a bad case of tendonitis in my left rotator cuff, as well as kidney disease. That being said, I guess I am a mess! I have tried loose weight and eat normal but after all these years I am asking myself, "what is normal"? I have been thinking about going on a raw food diet but, have no idea where to start! I know it includes salads but, I am sure I will get board quickly eating just that. I also am wondering what does one eat for breakfast other then fruit of which I have to be very careful of because I am a brittle diabetic and am on insulin. I am so tired of failing and want to succeed this time! I want to be able to walk and stand for long periods of time and be independent again. I do have an under-active thyroid and am currently taking 137 mic. of thyroid. Can you send me some information on an anti inflammatory, low protein,low carb. diet? Thank you.

Let's go through them one by one shall we? Lymph-edema is a build up of fluid. Your lymphatic system like your liver and kidney are your bodies garbage men. When toxicity gets to overwhelming your garbage men go on strike or are just overwhelmed. You should do a cleanse/detox and do exercises that stimulate the lymphatic system. The best would be a mini trampoline. Just 15 minutes a day goes far. Lympedema is healed by a high alkaline diet. Increasing greens and fruits while decreasing dairy, meat, alcohol, salt, and processed food.
Tendonitis can be healed also by an anti-inflammatory diet . Increasing berries and greens while decreasing dairy, meat, salt, and alcohol.

Diabetes is reversed using a low fat raw vegan diet. In 30 days you can completely get off insulin if you cut out the fat and get on a high carb raw vegan diet. The only programs who are actually reversing diabetes are using the same protocol as my program. I do not do a low carb diet especially when reversing diabetes. None of the programs healing your condition do either. Diabetes is not a carb issue but a fat issue. Fat coats your cells and blocks the sugar insulin connection. A low carb diet is a high fat diet and will only manage your condition at best.

Green smoothie: 1 1/2- 2 cups water / 1 cup greens / 3-5 medium pieces of fruit blended.

Raw pasta: Zuchini sliced with a potato peeler / veggies / Homemade pasta sauce made in blender
Snack: Sorbet: Blended frozen fruit in a blender

Q: My question is about hair loss. I am a 45 year old African American female. I started losing my hair about 15 years ago. I specifically remember unusual symptoms before it started to fall out. First, my entire scalp had a burning sensation, and it was very tender to the touch. It was very difficult to brush, comb and wash. Then after that, I am not sure how much longer after, but a dry patch of skin developed toward the back of my head (approximately 1 inch in diameter). I was able to peel it off and pull it through the strains of hair (very weird). That happened a couple of times and not too long after that, my hair started to fall out in large amounts for a fairly long period of time. At the moment I would say that I am mostly bald with hair mostly around the edges. Also I would like to mention that hair started to grow on my chest BUT I started to lose hair in my vaginal area. Sorry if some of this sounds sketchy but it's been 15 years!! I will try to give you a little bit of my history. I am 5'8" and 135lbs. I would say that for the most part, I have been an athlete all my life. My menses were very irregular sometimes and/or absent for long periods of time. When my menses were present, I had very bad cramps and clotting. My menses are now very regular and I hardly have any cramps, my flow is light and very little clotting. I would have to say that it is now a pleasure to have my "period". This also might be a result from switching my diet to a vegetarian diet. I have been a vegetarian for about 16 years. I would say 20% is dairy, but after reading your articles, I am trying my best to become vegan, hopefully even a raw foodist. I also eat tofu. I have never had hair problems growing up. I did get relaxers, but only twice a year. I have had my appendix removed when I was in elementary school. My bowel movements are usually once a day. (I know it needs to be 3.) So anyway, I have been to a couple of medical doctors to no avail, so now I am coming to you. I just received the following products from your company today (10-06-08). Q: Hi, I just want to know how long is it safe to use the gray-less hair. My daughter is in her mid twenties and I have seen now and then few strands of white hair. I know that she is under stress and at time due to her nature travel with anxiety especially with schooling and homework at one point. Q: Hi, I have been suffering from a dull pain the testicular area for over 2 years now. I have seen 2 urologists that have confirmed that I have enterococcus bacteria in either the prostate of genital area based on semen culture. I have also done testicle ultrasound and CAT scan of the area with good results. One of the urologist said that I have an inflamed prostate (prostitis) there was some varicose veins when ultra sound was done but the urologist continues to give me long term antibiotics. Last year I had a miscarriage, which was devastating to me though we were not trying to get pregnant. I have a 16 year old healthy son. The doctor wanted me to have a hysterectomy because of my age and reported that I had non-cancerous fibroids. Lunch: Raw wraps made from collard greens. use a base of tahini, hummus, or nut butter. Fill with sprouts and colorful veggies

Q: I am a 28 year old women who's period is 6-7 days long. I don't have any heavy bleeding or extreme cramps. I heard that my period should only last 1-3 day. Is this correct? And if so, what do I need to do to achieve a 1-3 day period?
Q: I've been eating vegan (mostly raw) for nearly 2 years. In the first year, I lost about 60 pounds. I still have about 50 more to lose and it hasn't budged in almost a year. I hear conflicting info about what sort of exercise would be best - cardio vs. strength. And any time I up my exercise, my hunger gets out of control. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the question. The most efficient way to lose weight from working out are high rep/low weight circuit training and through HIIT (high intensity interval training).
Your goal should be to increase metabolism and fat burning potential throughout the day. Both HIIT and circuit weight training are both effective. To be maximized you should exercise for 1 hour 5-6 times a week. You could alternate between cardio days and circuit training days. Here is an example.
Tues: Circuit training
Fri: Circuit training
Here is an example of a circuit and HIIT
Circuit. 15-20 reps 1 minute rest between sets. repeat for 20-30 minutes. (feel free to use the template and build your own)
Upper: Clean and press or curl to press
Lower: Alternating weighted lunges
Core: Reverse crunches
Plyo: Step ups
HIIT (can be done on almost any cardio machine)
3 minute warmup
-30 second sprint
-1 minute recovery
*Repeat for 15 minutes to 30 minutes*
3 minute cool down
Top fat loss mistakes for cardio and weight training
Cardio: Doing 1 speed with no resistance cardio. This kills me. Your fat burning potential begins and ends when you do. If it doesn't challenge you it will not change you. Atleast put the resistance on mountain or random.
Weight: Resting too long in between sets. Super sets are key here. Work one set while resting the other. Example of a superset is chest press and seated row together. Quad machine and ham machine. Pullup and shoulder press.
When you ramp up your metabolism you are going to have to eat more. Losing weight isn't about calories. Losing weight is about nutrient density. Q: Hetep, I've been a vegetarian for about two year's now, have not consume any meat since, but recently I begin eating shrimp, I don't drink milk, eat cheese, fish. I want to be like a vegan but, is it an issue with me eating the shrimp, and another thing I smoke weed heavy, is the smoking affecting my vegetarian diet.
Q: Peace, Dherbs.com. I emailed earlier this year requesting advise on problems I've been having with both my stomach and bladder which are still persisting. Around 5 years ago I noticed that my stomach started to swell until it became fully distended and firm (almost like a round ball). I found this unusual because I have always had a very flat stomach and have always been very active, as well as, tried to maintain a good diet. However after consulting with several western doctors non seems to have a clue as to the cause of the problem. Although during one examination a urologist said he could feel a hard lump just under my right rib cage. I am currently due to have an 'endoscopy' but am running out of options if this procedure does not reveal or identify the problem. Regards my bladder, this problem started between 13-15 years old, I am now 36 years. The main problem is that a majority of the time I am unable to urinate normally. Instead it sometimes takes upto 2-3 mins for the bladder to release anything, even when I'm presse, also even when something does come out it's usually in trickles which stops and starts. There is no pain, but it is very frustrating. Also, I usually need to urinate at least once every hour even if I have not drunk any fluid for a long period of time. This tends to cause a big problem if I am not near a toilet for long periods of time, as I then have to hold myself, which can be very uncomfortable. I won't go on hopefully this info will be sufficient for a diagnosis or an idea as to what the problem may be. Either way, any insight that you may be able to help me with into these two issues will be greatly appreciated.

Q: The reason I have chronic constipation is not because of diet, I eat very healthy, it is because of pain medication (narcotics), that I have to take to be able to stand the excruciating pain I am suffering from 5 spinal surgeries (I have metal rods in my spine from my shoulder blades to my tailbone). In order to have a regular bowel movement every day I take Glyco Lax (a dr.'s RX) 2x a day, plus what I call my "concoction" : I Tbs raw honey, 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp. lemon juice, 1/3 cup fresh ground golden flaxseeds,? 1 tsp. Natural Psyllium Husk Fiber, and put all of that in hot purified water and drink it. I also take a stool softener with stimulant. That is a lot of time consuming work for me, but it does work. You offer several products for regularity, but I don't know which one to order. My Dr. says senna is very harsh and addictive, and your products seems to have a lot of senna in them. I was told it is not good for long term use. Please advise.

The Paleo diet emphasizes drinking water and eating local/organic food. They shun dairy, processed food, and grains. I agree.
I disagree with just about everything else. For paleo theory to be correct Vegans either have to not exist or be doing very poorly. Wrong on both accounts. They say vegans just can't get enough protein or that we are missing x,y,z in our diets. Never mind that every major paleo website sells the supplements they say only vegans are deficient in. "Vegans don't get enough protein so eat meat and then buy our protein powder supplements. Vegans don't get enough omega 3's so just eat fish and while you are at it buy our krill oil supplements." Vegans are doing extremely well and in most long term studies Vegans end up on top in both health and longevity.

They claim carbohydrates make you fat and that the more you eat the more you weigh. Why then do the 80-10-10 crowd all appear not only all thin but extremely healthy? Carbohydrates are your bodies main source of fuel. Preferred source. Every cell in your body runs on glucose. The human body is amazing. The is a secondary source of energy in case of starvation, or glucose deprived. The body starts to burn fat as fuel known as keytosis. This was only meant as a way to keep the body running during famine. However the paleo people think this is a preferred state to be in. It's not. Look up keto-acidosis. Could be deadly.The bottom line is that people will always be looking forward to the latest fad that tells them "good things about their bad habits".
