Tips on how to transition into a vegan diet.
Q: What's the best way to start on a vegan/raw food diet? I am not sure what to eat to make sure I would get a nutritious diet-you may not be able to go into that much detail but how can I get sample meal plans for breakfast, lunch and dinner incorporating this type of diet-perhaps there is somewhere on the web I find something like this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
If I do say myself, the best way to start a raw food diet is to be coached by me. I run a 6 month health coaching program that is 60-90 percent raw and 100 percent vegan/gluten free/ allergy free. You can find out more about my program at www.theveganeffect.com. I am running a special of half off my program if you sign up before march 1st.
Here are some other tips to get started.
2: Read books like "beauty detox solution" by snyder, "80/10/10" by Dr. Graham., or "The Paradigm diet" by Adam Dave
3: Start simple with breakfast. Always start your day with a green smoothie. read "Green smoothie revolution" by forget authors name at the moment. heh.
A sample meal plan would be.
Breakfast: Green smoothie
Bridge: raw bar, handful of nuts or seeds, or fruit
Lunch: Raw wraps made from collard greens. use a base of tahini, hummus, or nut butter. Fill with sprouts and colorful veggies
Bridge: raw bar, handful nuts or seeds, or fruit
Dinner: Raw pasta with a large salad

Q: First let me just say that I love this site. It has given my goddesses and I true alternative. For some reason during this season we have been experiencing the announance of staph infections. The MD doctors have no clue or not clear in explaining how a person even contracts this infection but I know that it has to be food related. The body is perfect until it is contaminated by the foods we eat. At present I have a painful byte that I know is probably now a staph infection. It has swollen and turned red around the affected are. Is there any product that you have available that can assist me with this? I am two steps away from going to the MD but I know that he will only give me a temporary fix (poison) of which I do not even want in my system. Please advise!! My body is in a bind. I am still in transition from the flesh diet but this has definitely pushed me closer to vegan. Thanks in advance.
Glad you found and like the site. Listen, for "STAPH INFECTION", we have an article already dedicated to this subject whom you can find in our articles section. It offers remedy and recourse. Please visit our articles section. Contact us again if you have additional questions!
Q: I want to start the raw food diet, but do not want to lose weight has i am under weight already. I need tips to gain or at least maintain my weight. I do lift weights as part of my exercise routine.
Thanks for the question,
Losing "weight" on a raw foods diet is a definite probability. But the weight might be excess fat and water retention due to detoxing. By weight I am assuming you are talking about muscle. It is not that complicated to keep muscle while on a raw food diet. The Vegan Effect diet program I created is 60-90 percent raw. Raw before dinner if that helps. I allow myself one cooked meal a day. For the most part the diet is a Low fat/high carb/high fruit/high alkaline diet.
The most important thing to remember is getting enough calories. My athletes (including raw body builders) typically eat 1000 calories of fruit for breakfast in the form of a green smoothie. Usually post workout. You need to eat roughly 3000 calories to maintain or grow muscle mass. Some of my mass building athletes eat as much as 5000 calories. Albeit at a higher fat ratio than our standard 70/10/20 carb/fat/protein ratios.
Please refer to my blog on building muscle ona vegan diet found here: http://the-vegan-effect.healthcoach1.integrativenutrition.com/blog/2012/05/building-muscle-on-vegan-diet
There is a raw organic food bar with 22 grams of protien that can be found here http://www.organicfoodbar.com/products/. *Note: I am not affiliated with them nor do I sell any supplements*. It is however a great bridge to meals.
Besides getting enough calories make sure you are getting around 20 grams of protein 5 times a day to maintain muscle mass. Sprouting beans, nut butters, seeds, and nuts help.
I run a 6 month online health coahcing program that includes lessons on sports nutrition and include a individualized fitness plan. I am currently running a ridiculous half off special to fill spots. If you are interested visit www.theveganeffect.com and contact me there.
Hope this helps

Q: I am just becoming a vegan going on 20 years in June, and it takes a lot of discipline. I was wondering if you knew any good recipes for some good vegan style dishes. I really want to establish a vegan restaurant. I have purchased your Alternative Diet and Lifestyle Manual, and I know its healthier to eat vegan. But, I also understand its not the healthiest due to soy products. Is their still away to satisfy my appetite and well being at the same time?
We have a couple of articles you might be interested in.
Q: How can I make the transition from cooked food, to raw food? Do you have any raw recipes for children? How can I get kids to eat raw?
Children do as you do, so let the child see you eating raw food as well. Fruits are the best raw foods to eat, as they are naturally sweet. Purchase "Alternative Diet and Lifestyle Manual", for the numerous raw food resources to assist you in this transition.

Q: I was diagnosed with Raynauds--circulcation in the tips of my fingers. When it is cold my blood vessels constrict causing the tips of my fingers to turn purple and sometimes oftentimes develops painful ulcers. What do you recommend?
Q: Hey Gary, I've heard a lot of hype about the paleo diet. I'm a vegan. Is the paleo diet a diet you would recommend? Can it work with vegan lifestyle? Thanks!
Sorry for the late response, This one got kind of lost in my emails. Thanks for your question.
The Paleo diet.... something nice.... something nice.... heh.
The Paleo diet emphasizes drinking water and eating local/organic food. They shun dairy, processed food, and grains. I agree.
I disagree with just about everything else. For paleo theory to be correct Vegans either have to not exist or be doing very poorly. Wrong on both accounts. They say vegans just can't get enough protein or that we are missing x,y,z in our diets. Never mind that every major paleo website sells the supplements they say only vegans are deficient in. "Vegans don't get enough protein so eat meat and then buy our protein powder supplements. Vegans don't get enough omega 3's so just eat fish and while you are at it buy our krill oil supplements." And so on. The paleo diet is just the low carb diet re-branded. Here are the results of long term low carb eating. http://www.pcrm.org/health/reports/analysis-of-health-problems-associated-with-high.
Vegans are doing extremely well and in most long term studies Vegans end up on top in both health and longevity.

They claim carbohydrates make you fat and that the more you eat the more you weigh. Why then do the 80-10-10 crowd all appear not only all thin but extremely healthy? Carbohydrates are your bodies main source of fuel. Preferred source. Every cell in your body runs on glucose. The human body is amazing. The is a secondary source of energy in case of starvation, or glucose deprived. The body starts to burn fat as fuel known as keytosis. This was only meant as a way to keep the body running during famine. However the paleo people think this is a preferred state to be in. It's not. Look up keto-acidosis. Could be deadly. The bottom line is that people will always be looking forward to the latest fad that tells them "good things about their bad habits".
My Diet program that I run follows a high carb/low fat/high alkaline/high raw protocol. All my client reach remarkable health results.
I could go on forever, but I think you get the point. Let me know if you have anything else to add to this discussion.

Q: Would the FULL BODY DETOX be of any benefit for someone eating a vegan diet for 3 weeks even though one meal per day was cooked?
I REALLY WOULDN'T SUGGEST THAT BUT YOU HAVE FREE WILL TO DO AS YOU PLEASE!
Q: I don't know if you remember or know, but there was a Vegan Couple that had a newborn baby, and the baby had died from what seemed to be a lack a of nutrients because the couple fed the baby a vegan diet. If you remember this, what do you think went wrong.
The couple was from Atlanta! What went wrong is that while they were well-intentioned, they were ignorant, ignorant to true nutrition. They fed the baby soy milk, and soy milk does not contain nutrition. They didn't supplement the soy milk with nutrition which they could have done with herbs such as alfalfa, Irish Moss, Iceland Moss, etc.
Q: I see also that you recommend a complete diet with these programs. I am guessing its a vegan diet right? I wanted to ask something on that is coconut milk and coconut oils ok for that? I personally had a very hard time trying to eat that many vegetables and many ph balance vegans seem to think fruits aren?t good either. I eat that many vegetables one it tears me up the next day and two I just cant consume enough calories that way. I can try and make up for it by eating things like almonds but I eat to many almonds I get the same problem the next day. Now coconut milk (unsweetened) and a digestive enzyme works for me for picking up extra calories.... but I hear very conflicting information about coconut and its saturated fat content. Is it ok to use daily as a part of the diet for cleansing? And your oxy-drops are those the same as the drop for ph balancing water?? Or is it something different? I am wanting to start lifting weights as I need to put on some muscle and I?m wondering if its something that would be beneficial in combating muscle soreness by increased oxygen in the body.
The diet we recommend is vegan-based, and RAW FOODS. Fresh fruits, vegetables, raw nuts and seeds are ideal.
Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil are excellent products to have in your diet. The healthy fats will keep you fuller.
Oxy-Drops can help balance your electrolytes that need to be replenished after a workout in order to keep your body performing efficiently.
Q: Do you have any suggestions for a breakfast, lunch & dinner schedule? I'm making the transition to a healthier diet due to fibroid tumors. Currently I have broken my eating menu into 3 parts, breakfast - fruits, lunch - salads, & dinner - baked potato or any other heavy meal I intend to eat. Is this a good start? Any suggestions you can give on healthier meals for dinner are most appreciated.
Please purchase our ALTERNATIVE DIET AND LIFESTYLES MANUAL e-book for the alternatives you seek. It's a great little resource, especially for new people starting their transition diet. You off to a good start, Beloved!
Q: What are some tips and healthy foods and supplements for pregnant women? and what are good exercises that are simple? (I just want a healthy, beautiful baby)
Q: I am trying to find a way to get rid of my headaches; I'm also been diagnosed with sleep Apnea and feel this is a cause as well. I'm working on changing my diet all together as I feel this is a trigger for it also, I like to find a vegan diet also, that would allow for me to put on a few health pounds. Thanks so much my brother and praises to our ancestors for your enlightment. Please help.
First, detoxify your body (FULL BODY DETOX). Second, perform the DHERBS 10-DAY SUPREME COLON CLEANSE. The rest of the information I feel can be found in the article section on â€HEADACHES†For sleep apnea, an article is coming soon! Work on your respiratory system (perform the RESPIRATORY CLEANSE AND REGIMEN). Stay tuned for the article!
Q: Hello I have been taking the fibroid cleanse for 11 days now i am also doing the Strick Vegan diet. within the 11 days i got my period but did not notice any difference still had a heavy flow & cramps. after my period was gone about 4days later ( and this actual moment) i have been having sudden but yet quick piercing pain on the right side of my abdomen. ( i dont know what that means) questions: 1. should i be feeling any kind of cramping feeling on my abdomen? 2. should i have been still having a heavy flow? 3. can i continue w/the fibroid cleanse after the 20 days? 4. how soon should i go see my GYN doctor for an ultra sound, MRI or cat scan to see if there has been a change? Thank you in advance.
The symptoms associated with the breaking down of the tumor can vary as everyone’s body is different. Some people experience heavier or lighter menses, cramps, increase in discharge or no symptoms at all. You should continue with the cleanse until it’s over and perform some of the natural remedies listed in the book, especially the castor oil packs. The same amount of time it took for the tumor to develop should be considered for the breaking down of the fibroid. You can repeat the cleanse or continue with the Fibroid Formula depending on the size of the fibroids. We suggest giving your body a chance to process the changes, getting an ultra sound only monitors the size of the tumor. The diet that you should be following is raw vegan. It’s important for your body to benefit from the foods within the diet. Cooking foods takes out the nutrients and enzymes that are beneficial to our bodies, so eating food in it’s most natural state is best.

Q: I know your probably busy helping all these lost people out there, so I'm not going to take a lot of time. Could you please refer me to a good Raw food diet book? I've been vegan for a while and trying to make another transformation towards my Original Diet.
Please purchase our "ALTERNATIVE HEALTH DIRECTORY" e-book which lists a plethora of vegan and raw foods resources (books, magazines, lists, etc.). It's just what you're looking for.
Q: I'm a raw vegan, and still suffering from acne. I stay away from all sweeteners, except fresh whole fruits. I started to have lots of greens juices these days, and my skin has improved a little bit. What about spices such a cayenne pepper, is it bad for your skin? What about goji berries? I know they are diet fruits, thats why I stay away from them for a while. I even fast for a while. I just don't know how my skin can getter better.
Greetings! Have you detoxed (Full Body Detox)? Acne is a blood disorder. Please read our article "Skin Disorder = Blood Disorder" for more information. Our Healing Facial Kit will be out later this month. Recommended reading: The Mental Science Manual. Stay positive! Don't focus so much on the problem. Use visualization techniques, and see yourself as you desire to see yourself, with flawless skin.

Q: I was actually interested in using the FULL BODY DETOX, I know that it comes with a nutritional guide but I wanted to know if it would work if I did not follow a vegan diet. I do not consume a lot of fast food which I am willing to easily give up but I wanted to know how it could work on a moderate none vegetarian diet.
The RAW FOODS diet is 50% of the FULL BODY DETOX! It won't work without following the diet!
Q: I have incorporated fish into my diet because I have been craving. Is moderation okay.... meaning my fruits for breakfast a regular lunch with salad and a salad for dinner okay to pretty much moderate other foods? It is challenging for me to become a vegan. Do you have any suggestions on how to still eat healthy to maintain an alkalized body with certain foods with moderation that are not raw? I still drink my green veggies at least twice a day. I am praying that my results will be negative.
FISH IN MODERATION IS OKAY FOR YOU. TO MAINTAIN ALKALINITY, DESPITE THE ACID-FORMING THINGS YOU EAT, JUST MAKE SURE TO EAT AS MANY GREEN FOODS AS POSSIBLE. YOU CAN ALSO TAKE 6 CAPSULES OF ELECTRIC GREENS CELL FOOD TOO! YOU’RE DOING GOOD SO KEEP YOUR THOUGHTS POSITIVE AND ON YOUR DESIRES.
Q: I would like to order the cleanse for women... my husband is doing the full body cleanse now... what do you recommend for me... ? I really need to work on my diet am vegetarian however, I feel like I truly face some of the same issues you faced during your conversion.. perhaps I need to consider going back to strictly vegan vegetables! I use to be very healthy but now I take meds for stomach pains.. etc... but I have implemented flaxseed oil into my diet .. .what is your view on flaxseed..? I found this article to very interesting that you wrote.. I have headaches from time to time also.
We would recommend you perform the Full Body Cleanse to help remedy the sypmtoms you are experiencing. A raw foods diet is recommended while on the cleanse, so you are on the right track. Flaxseed Oil is a great product to have in your diet, as it provides healthy fats.
Q: I have ordered the detox cleanse, and the weight cleanse. Both state to eat a raw diet of veggies and fruit, nuts, nut pastes??, legume sprouts, seeds, plant oils, sea veggies??,and fresh juices. It mentions Vegan Diet. What are my options when it comes to these choices? What do I eat and how often to keep my sugar from dropping, and feeling sick? Usually mid am, and mid afternoon?
The best way to balance blood sugar and keep your body in a fat burning zone is to eat low fat and every 3-4 hours. Also high raw and high carb. Here are some options. Just a general outline.
Muesli - fruit smoothie-green smoothie
2-3 pieces of fruit
Raw wraps-raw pasta-salad with legumes
2-3 peices of fruit
wraps-raw pasta-salad with legumes
I suggest reading "Beauty detox solution" by Snyder, "Crazy Sexy Diet" by Karr, or 80-10-10 by Graham.
