Caffeine is a drug stimulant that affects the central nervous system by temporarily increasing alertness and energy. It is also best to avoid most types of coffee, including decaffeinated, and also products containing isolated caffeine, due to the fact that they are acidic and cause the body to release cortisol. Caffeine is most often found in sodas, energy drinks, energy enhancers (i.e., No Doz, Caffedrine, and Vivarin) and some migraine/headache pain relievers, and medicines like antihistamines. Caffeine may cause sleeplessness, nervousness, nausea, upset stomach, headache, irritability, anxiety, confusion, ringing in the ears, frequent urination, muscle twitches or tremors, heart arrhythmias, palpations, convulsions, breast disease, prostate problems and more; due to caffeine deposits left behind in the kidneys.
