100% Full Body Cleanse Approved Cinnamon Persimmon Smoothie

For our January smoothie recipe, we wanted to make something based on a food in season, the under-appreciated, but much beloved persimmon. Persimmons are one of our favorite foods. They taste like brown sugar and have a great texture. Also, they’re cheap. Go to a Chinese market and you can buy pounds upon pounds of the orange fruit for a few bucks.

Admittedly, they aren’t the most healthy fruits in the world. An orange, for example, has far more nutrients, but nonetheless, they are fruit, which means any persimmon smoothie is probably better than what most of us had for breakfast.

PS. When shopping for persimmons, choose ones that have a brightly-colored waxy flesh. That’s how you know they’re ripe!

 

Vegan Raw Persimmon Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 2 persimmons, chopped
  • 1 banana
  • 2 c raw almond milk
  • juice of half an orange
  • 3/4 c pecans (optional)
  • 3 dates, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Blend and enjoy. Garnish with nutmeg.
