Raw Vegan Chocolate Orange Energy Balls

Is there a better pairing than chocolate and orange? It’s a unique flavor combination that plays on the bitterness of chocolate with the acidity of orange zest. You don’t have to worry about too much bitterness, though, because these energy balls contain dates. They offer a powerful sweetness without being overly sweet in these energy balls because of raw cacao’s intensity. Always remember that the darker the chocolate, the more bitter the flavor.

When you are cleansing, you need a diverse snack collection. Naturally, you have to make your own snacks, as nearly all packaged snacks contain processed ingredients and excess sodium. If you can make snacks that fill you up, that’s even better. In the case of these energy balls, they contain lots of protein and healthy fats, both of which keep you satiated between meals. Eat one and you will see how they fill you up. Eat two and you may not need a meal! Just keep in mind that the calories rack up quickly if you eat more than one, given that they contain almonds, walnuts, and almond butter.

  • 1/2 c raw walnuts
  • 1/2 c raw almonds
  • 1/2 c raw cacao powder (plus more for dusting)
  • 1 tbsp. raw almond butter
  • 1 tbsp. grade A maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp. freshly squeezed orange juice

  4. Dust each of the balls with raw cacao powder if you want to and then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
