Most people deal with a gut-related issue at some point during their lifetime. Gut issues can include bloating, gas, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, or more serious issues, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), leaky gut syndrome, or something more serious. Eating a more nutritious diet can help mitigate a lot of common gut issues that stem from poor eating habits. While this smoothie will not solve your gut issues, it is a great place to start, as it contains ingredients that promote a healthy gut.

Leaky gut syndrome is not technically accepted as a formal medical diagnosis, but it is popular in lay literature. Many gastrointestinal symptoms are ascribed to leaky gut, such as distension, diarrhea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloating. Healing foods may help alleviate some of these issues, while promoting better gut function in the process. This smoothie is brimming with more nutritious than an average meal in the Standard American Diet. It contains spinach, kale, homemade almond milk, avocado, banana, ginger, hemp hearts, chia seeds, and more!

The mix of bananas and grade A maple syrup naturally sweetens this smoothie. The leafy greens provide vitamins K, A, and C, in addition to magnesium, iron, and fiber. The chia seeds and hemp hearts are full of omega-3 fatty acids, which help promote brain and heart health. Additionally, those two ingredients are naturally rich in fiber, which helps keep you full for longer. Drink this smoothie for breakfast and you won’t need to snack unnecessarily before lunch. It’s such a great way to start your day!

Get the ingredients and ready your food processor because homemade energy bites are as easy as one, two, three. An easy-to-make snack that is rich in protein, fiber, healthy fats, and free of preservatives and added sugars? How many times can we say yes? When you need a boost of energy and want to enjoy something that is wholesome, nutrient-dense, and delicious, turn to these chocolate hemp and pumpkin seed energy bites. They take less than 10 minutes to process and then another few minutes to form into balls. Freeze them until firm and then enjoy!

You will need raw pumpkin seeds, hemp hearts, chia seeds, raw cacao powder, Medjool dates, raw sunflower seed butter, alcohol-free vanilla extract, and grade A maple syrup. Once you gather your ingredients, ready the food processor fitted with the ‘S’ blade. You will first have to process the pumpkin seeds with the hemp hearts. Once that becomes a crumbly mixture, add the chia seeds, dates, vanilla, sea salt, sunflower seed butter, and maple syrup to the processor. Pulse until that mixture is a dough-like consistency. It will almost turn into a ball in the food processor. Just make sure to stop blending, scrape down the sides, and continue blending in order to fully incorporate all of the ingredients.

Due to the fact that these energy bites have sunflower seeds, hemp hearts, chia seeds, and sunflower seed butter, they are not lacking in healthy fats, protein, or fiber. That makes them great for enjoying when you want something to hold you over between meals. They are also great to enjoy pre- or post-workout, as the nutrients in them aid both muscle performance and recovery.

As lovers of chia pudding, we are always trying to find fun, new ways to enjoy this delicious treat. It makes for a great grab-and-go breakfast, pre- or post-workout snack, or even a healthy dessert, depending on the recipe. Since the days are finally starting to get colder, we decided to flavor the chia pudding similar to some classic holiday cookies. Yes, we know that Halloween has not even happened yet, but something about the weather inspired this wonderful treat of a recipe.

The key to nailing this recipe is using the proper amount of each spice. There is no gingerbread spice; rather, you combine a few classic holiday spices to create that classic gingerbread flavor. The spices actually balance out the natural sweetness of the maple syrup. You’ll need cinnamon, nutmeg, ground clove, and ginger powder. Whisk those spices into the chia pudding mixture and you’ll be good to go. Just remember that you may need to taste the chia pudding and adjust a spice or two in order to please your taste buds. That said, we worked very hard to measure out every ingredient in a precise way. So while we always encourage creativity and experimentation in the kitchen, you shouldn’t have to doctor up this recipe to make it taste better than it already does.

Fall means changing leaves, brisk weather, and lots and lots of pumpkin. Pumpkin is synonymous with fall these days, primarily because of the pumpkin spice latte craze. We are not interested in providing you with recipes that contain over 40 grams of sugar and 500 calories in just one serving. This recipe is a major departure from the classic coffee shop pumpkin spice latte. It involves 100% pure canned pumpkin puree, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, 100% pure unsweetened applesauce, and maple syrup. That’s because we don’t have time for added sweeteners and excess calories!

Do you remember eating fruit leather as a child? You are probably familiar with the chemically-dyed and artificially flavored sugary fruit gummies. To group those processed, sugary items with real fruit leather is quite insulting, primarily because the fruit is almost non-existent. This recipe uses real fruit, which you blend together and then spread evenly onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. The parchment paper is key, folks, because that will allow for easy removal from the pan. The last thing you want is for your fruit leather to get stuck to your baking sheet.

As a quick note, fruit leather does take a few hours to bake (roughly three to four hours). We want to prepare you for that cook time, so you don’t start making this recipe at 8 p.m. What you can do is bake it around 5 p.m.and then allow it to cool overnight before removing it from the parchment paper. Once it cools, you can slice the “leather” into strips and roll each strip up. You can also tear it into pieces, cube it, or enjoy it however you please.

Mornings can be a whirlwind, especially if you are dealing with work deadlines, school runs, or the general hustle and bustle of life. Finding a breakfast that is both healthy and easy to make in a timely fashion can be quite difficult. That’s why we always recommend chia pudding to those with busy schedules. You can easily prepare it the night before and it’s ready to go in the morning. Just take it out of the fridge, put on your optional toppings, and enjoy on the go. So if you are looking for a breakfast that is both delicious and nutritious, make this chia pudding that is 100% customizable. Let’s take a look at the featured ingredients in this recipe:

  • Chia seeds: Without these tiny black seeds, you have no recipe. They are responsible for the pudding’s thick, tapioca-like texture. They absorb liquid and expand to create the pudding and are naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, protein, and other vitamins and minerals.
  • Homemade almond milk: This is an essential liquid to have if you are on the raw vegan diet. Not only is it easy to make, but it also tastes way better than any store bought almond milk you’ve had. Homemade almond milk also provides more nuttiness, which complements the other ingredients beautifully.
  • Cinnamon: This aromatic spice provides a comforting warmth to this chia pudding. It enhances the flavor and offers some potential healthy benefits, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Vanilla extract: Make sure to buy the alcohol-free pure vanilla extract, as the regular stuff can contain unnecessary sugars. A touch of vanilla extract adds a subtle sweetness that rounds out what the cinnamon and maple syrup bring to the table.
  • Pure maple syrup: A natural sweetener that brings a non-chemical sweetness to the chia pudding. It has a touch of warmth that complements the cinnamon and a little goes a long way.

During the summer months, melons are the freshest they will ever be, no matter if it is a watermelon, cantaloupe, or honeydew. The honeydew, and other melons, have a rich water content, aiding your hydration efforts during those hot summer days. Most melons are over 90% water and in the case of honeydew, it also offers iron, calcium, zinc, copper, selenium, manganese, fiber, vitamin A, lutein, folate, and beneficial fatty acids.

Honeydew isn’t the only hydrating ingredient in this smooth. Cucumber also brings with it a boatload of water and other integral nutrients that contribute to healthy bodily function. It provides vitamin K, vitamin C, and other antioxidant compounds. The chia seeds offer beneficial omega-3 fatty acids that work to enhance brain, gut, and heart health. We don’t just want to bore you with a long list of nutritional benefits, though. Ultimately, this smoothie is about the incredibly refreshing flavor!

Because this smoothie contains honeydew and banana, you probably do not need to add the maple syrup. That is entirely up to you, but consider omitting it first, taste the smoothie, and add the maple syrup if you really crave a sweeter flavor profile. The spinach is also optional, but adds more nutrients. You don’t have to worry about that leafy green ruining the flavor of the smoothie at all. You can’t even taste it! As long as you have a sweet and scrumptious honeydew, that’ll be the primary flavor you taste when you enjoy this smoothie.

If you look at the ingredient label on a pint or quart of ice cream, you will notice a long list of ingredients, with sugar being high on the list. The more complicated your flavor (think moose tracks, or sea salt caramel with chocolate swirl), the more sugar and ingredients the ice cream has. This apricot sorbet is the opposite of that. Not only is it free of excess sugar, but it also doesn’t contain stabilizers or other preservatives. It is pure, raw vegan goodness!

When life gives you apricots, you make apricot sorbet, because you sure can’t make lemonade out of apricots! Apricots have a slightly tart and sweet flavor profile, but every now and again, you can come across a batch with subpar flavor. Sure, you could dehydrate that batch to make dried apricots, or you could turn the apricots into a magnificent sorbet. We did exactly that because making sorbet is very simple and requires almost none of your time. You simply blend the ingredients together, add them to a freezer-safe container, freezer until firm, and then scoop to enjoy.

From start to finish, this sorbet takes about 10 minutes to prep and blend. Make it a little after lunch and it’ll be ready to enjoy by the time you finish eating dinner. Even though the sorbet is sweetened with maple syrup, it is not overly sweet. The fresh lemon juice brings a zesty acidity, so the sorbet is not overly sweet. It is beautifully creamy and smooth, so make it now while apricots are in season. Get them before they leave supermarket shelves!

Longer days and warmer weather can mean only one thing: cooling, sweet treats become quite heavenly. The cold is a beautiful welcome from the intense dry or humid heat, depending on where you live. The combo of chili, lime, and mango brings those summer sensations together in one cooling and delicious treat. Your taste buds get hit with a subtle heat from the chili powder, while those citrusy bits of energetic lime zest remain with you as the sweet and tropical mango coats the tongue. To create a luxurious texture and creamy undertone, you have the nutty, homemade almond milk.

There are many reasons to love this recipe, one of them being the fact that this only contains five ingredients. Unlike a mango sorbet from the grocery store, this recipe does not contain copious amounts of sugar per serving. The sweetness primarily comes from the mango, which you cube and freeze overnight prior to making this recipe. Because the lime juice and zest bring a tangy acidity and the chili brings spice, we added a touch of maple syrup. You can start with a little less maple syrup and increase the amount from there.

In order to create a more pleasant eating experience, make sure that you blend everything until smooth and creamy. You don’t want any frozen mango chunks in the sorbet! Using a high-speed blender is a possibility, but you may have an easier time creating a smooth and creamy consistency. Whichever kitchen appliance you use to make the sorbet, make sure that you scrape down the sides of the processor/blender to fully incorporate all the ingredients. When ready to serve, feel free to dust with some chili powder or add a squeeze of lime.

Ready for a delightful breakfast, fellow kitchen adventurers? Get ready to grab your breakfast and go when you prepare this peach chia pudding. It’s like summer in a jar! If you know anything about our recipes, you know that we like to make them as user friendly as possible. They should not feel like a challenge because healthy eating doesn’t have to be that way. You can create nutrient-dense meals in a matter of minutes with a few simple ingredients. Such is the case for this chia pudding, which can double as a healthy breakfast or dessert. You can even enjoy it as a pre- or post-workout snack.

The thick chia pudding is bursting with peach goodness. Since peaches are in season during the summer months, we like to use them whenever possible. In-season peaches are typically juicier and more flavorful, offering a lovely natural sweetness that steals the show in this recipe. Depending on the sweetness level of the peach you use in this recipe, you may or may not need the grade A maple syrup. Try it without the maple syrup at first and then add it if you desire a sweeter flavor from your chia pudding. Pour the mixture into two jars and refrigerate overnight. Doing so gives the chia pudding enough time to set.

Unlike other chia pudding recipes, this one requires you to make the chia pudding base before incorporating the chia seeds. Once you blend together the base ingredients, incorporate the chia seeds. Make sure you take your time with blending because you want it to be silky smooth (just like a smoothie) prior to adding the chia seeds. Want a little texture in your chia pudding? Leave the base slightly chunky with peach bits. That will also help it maintain fruity essence!

There are many people who love to indulge in cold, sweet treats, especially during the warmer months. There are many variations of “nice cream,” which is what people call healthier ice cream typically made with bananas as the base. When blended, frozen bananas create a smooth and creamy base, so there is no need for churning this raw vegan creation. Using bananas also means that you do not have to add sweeteners, such as agave nectar or pure maple syrup. Plus, the cherries in this recipe provide natural sugars in addition to a subtly tart flavor.

If you are one of those people that likes kitchen toys, consider investing in a cherry pitter. It is exactly what it sounds like: a tool that pits cherries and leaves you with the whole fruit. No need to cut around the pits or bite the cherries in order to remove the pits with your teeth. It’s truly an incredible creation and there is no better time to use it than during the summer when cherries are in season. The cherry pitter also makes freezing whole cherries that much easier.

Now, there are two ways to enjoy this ice cream. You can blend the ingredients together in a food processor and enjoy it immediately after blending into a smooth consistency. It is more like soft serve in that state. If you prefer scoops of ice cream, spoon the blended mixture into a freezer-safe container and place in the freezer for two to three hours. Remove from the freezer and then scoop the ice cream with an ice cream scooper. Just don’t leave the ice cream in the freezer for longer than two to three hours, or else it becomes a little too hard to enjoy.
