End of Summer Smoothie

I still can’t believe that the dear sweet summer has drawn to a close here in North America. It is a sad thought surely, but the silver lining is that the bounty of the fall harvest is now knocking on our doors! I bet if you paid a visit to your local farmers’ market, you can still find a few watermelon up for sale, and I think we should all enjoy every last morsel of this lush pink treat while we still can! It will be along cold winter until we can indulge in these juicy giants in-season, after all. I picked up a HUGE one this week and decided to get creative with how I could incorporate it into as many recipes possible.

Watermelon is comprised of about 92 percent water, which makes it highly hydrating, and it is also well known that is a great source of the antioxidant lycopene. But, did you know that it is also jam-packed with potassium, which helps the body maintain proper electrolyte balance and assists in muscle and nerve function? And hey, watermelon also contains the amino acid arginine, which can help maintain arteries, blood flow and overall cardiovascular function.

So what better food to use in a pre-workout morning smoothie, right? I decided to whip up one up after my morning yoga practice, and with the addition of ginger, kale and a few other delicious add-ins, I came up with this super powered, super hydrating, and super yummy smoothie. I loved this recipe so much, that I decided to include it in the first chapter of my recently published (un)cookbook, MAP Wellness Morsels: Life in the RAW. END OF SUMMER SMOOTHIE

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 C fresh watermelon
  • ½ C coconut water (100% pure, no added sugars)
  • 1.5 T fresh orange juice
  • ½ fresh peach or nectarine
  • ½ T grated fresh ginger
  • ¾ C organic kale (OR sub-in a collard leaf or spinach)
  • 3-4 leaves fresh organic basil (OR parsley)
  • 1 T goji berries (optional)
  • 4-5 ice cubes

PREPARATION

  1. Add to blender all the ingredients, in the order listed (putting the melon and liquid at the bottom of the jar will help get the blending going).
  2. Pour into a tall glass, and enjoy (with a straw!)

Also I have heard that the gel from the plant can be mixed into a smoothie, is that true? Greetings! As far as the best brand I really wouldn't know as there are a few good brands on the market. Just make sure your aloe vera juice is at 99% pure and with no additives. Aloe gel can be added to a fruit smoothie though

We recommend sticking to raw and fresh ingredients like using extra virgin olive oil as a base for homemade dressings. Adding apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, sea salts and other spices are common ingredients for homemade dressings.

    Q: Is sea salt and warm water a good natural laxative? If so how often do you recommend the use of sea salt for elimination? I was reading The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs and it gives this recommendation, along with drinking lemon water mixed with organic syrup and cayenne pepper. Is it safe to give myself an enema 2xs per day using a hot water bottle filled with fresh squeezed organic lemon and distilled water? Asking this because Bzod had me to listen to 88.3 today here in Cincinnati and the guy (Mike) was telling how he does this regularly and has great results.

    Yes, sea salt in water is a mild laxative!

    You can do it as often as you FEEL the need to drink or take it. 

    You can also consume the Master Cleanse (cayenne, maple syrup, lemon juice) if you choose. You can drink this as much as you like depending on how you feel.

    Q: I just completed the Full Body Cleanse about two weeks ago and started the Pancreas Formula for my pancreas... I don?t have the money for the full kit but after the Full Body Cleanse I?ve notice my blood averaging +-200.....it had reached a low of 124 during detox. I bought cromium and have used it since the onset of detox at about 1200 mcg per day! My Pancreas is a piece of crap!!!!!     Q: I am 27 years old, 5'7", 125 lbs. I'm in good health; I haven't had any major health problems. The only health complaint I have is horrible menstrual cycles. After coming upon your website, I've decided to make major dietary changes. I've also decided to do the TOTAL WOMAN CLEANSE, and I've also ordered the maintenance herbs you've suggested for after the cleanse.     Q: I am doing the the Full Body Detox, the Anti Viral Cleanse, and then the 10 Day Electric Greens Cell Food Cleanse. I am trying to fully heal form so called HIV.     Q: My 4-year-old son has had mucus in his body since he was born probably, definitely due to the way I was eating back then while I was pregnant. Every morning he wakes up with a stuffy nose, summer or winter, and every day he sneezes several times and Every time there is plenty of snot that comes out.     Q: I am currently living in Atlanta GA, moved here from New York. I've never suffered from pollen, or being allergic to raw fruits peach, apples or plums.     Q: I have a question for you. I love reading your articles and I was reading about the importance of iodine in a vegan diet. I am vegan and I'm scared I'm getting iodine and you wrote that seaweed would fulfill that need. Did you mean Sushi seaweed, the roasted nori kind? Or fresh seaweed? I haven't been able to find fresh seaweed anywhere, except for already prepared seaweed salad. Also, how would you suggest I use the roasted nori seaweed? In smoothies? Because by itself it does not taste good.

    Q: I'm a raw vegan, and still suffering from acne. I stay away from all sweeteners, except fresh whole fruits. I started to have lots of greens juices these days, and my skin has improved a little bit. What about spices such a cayenne pepper, is it bad for your skin? What about goji berries?     Q: For about 2.5 months I have been on the path of taking care of my temple (body). I am more dedicated than I have been in the past. One I was diagnose with so-called diabetes (type II) took the pills (made me sicker than I was) and now my doctor has stressed taking insulin injections. Which I am totally against it. Since I have been taking the Pancreas formula, changed my diet (no meats, juicing, fresh fruits, green veggies (organic))& vigorous exercise (cardio), my A1c has gone from 10.9 to 8.6(should be 6.5) in the span of 2mths. Glucose 137 (should be 70-125) has been high as 238 and higher. However, my doctor insist that my diabetes is not controlled, and will not get better because the pancreas function in type2 diabetics declines as time goes on.     Q: My fiance has experienced water retention and discoloration in his right foot and leg for around 2 years. Doctors had him on water pills, coreg for vascular issues and glyberide for high blood sugars. He ordered the Pancreas kit and around a week into the program experienced more swelling in the foot and leg. He stopped the program to resume taking the water pill to see if this would help. He has gained around 12 lbs which is water held in this leg.     Your husband is NOT getting proper circulation to his extremities. He should have not stopped the Pancreas kit because it is common for things to get worse before better. He should have judged himself after the kit was finished in 3-weeks. He experienced the HEALING CRISIS and stopped! He should complete the kit and regimen (perhaps even starting over).

    His stomach is making noises because he's having digestive problems. He needs to eat as much raw foods as possible and rink plenty of vegetable juice. SAD foods stops his stomach from gurgling because that's what's in his stomach; and when he does not give his stomach what it wants (a sign of fasting and cleansing), he hear the noise from his stomach.     Q: During a dental check-up today, my 6 year old son was given a shot to have a minor extraction and then prescribed Gel-Kam (0.4% stable stannous fluoride preventive treatment gel) to be placed on a few of his teeth. They warned me not to let him swallow it and not allow him to eat or drink anything for at least 1/2 hour after using it. He is scheduled to return next week Thursday. Do you have any suggestions/alternatives for fluoride treatment? I have no intention of putting the Gel-Kam in his mouth.     Use 1 cup of fruit juice (of your liking), 1 cup of frozen fruit (i.e. banana, strawberries, mango, etc.), 1 cup of ice (optional). Blend for about 30 seconds! Drink and enjoy!
