Nobody wants to look at a picture of themselves and see a whole lot of yellowing their smile. At the same time, harsh whitening strips can irritate the gums and teeth, especially if you are more sensitive to those strips. You don’t have to carefully place whitening strips on your teeth now that you have this homemade toothpaste recipe that helps to whiten teeth. It contains activated charcoal, which is mildly abrasive and helps get you a brighter smile.

Avoid Harsh Teeth Whitening

If you want a gorgeous smile that’ll stand the test of time in family photos, chemical whiteners may not be your best bet. According to research, chemical whitening strips may cause gum irritation, tooth sensitivity, or permanent enamel damage. What’s even more interesting is that scientists don’t quite know how these strips work exactly, or the effects they have in the long run.

At-home whitening treatments tend to contain hydrogen peroxide, which helps remove stains or general discoloration. Hydrogen peroxide can be beneficial in certain situations, but it may not be the best ingredient for oral care. Hydrogen peroxide bleaching agents damage dentin, the tooth layer underneath enamel. If you have weaker teeth, you have a greater risk of developing tooth decay. Even though you see a product in stores, that doesn’t mean it is good for your health.

Whitening Teeth The Natural Way

There are many excellent toothpaste recipes that contain natural ingredients. Some companies offer great options in stores, but they can be quite expensive. If you are on a homemade kick and want to add more DIY recipes to your collection, this toothpaste is a great option. This whitening toothpaste contains beneficial ingredients and stays the same consistency at any temperature. The reason for that is because this recipe does not contain coconut oil, a popular ingredient in DIY oral care recipes. It contains MCT oil, which is derived from coconut oil, but stays liquid at different temperatures.

This natural toothpaste is not as sweet as the conventional toothpastes you’re familiar with, nor does it foam. It doesn’t contain baking soda, so it won’t be salty like other natural options. This recipe contains a small amount of essential oils for flavoring.

Essential Oils In Toothpaste

For the record, not every essential oil is safe to put in your mouth. Some are safe for adults and not for children. The quantity of the oil(s) you choose also plays a role. Cinnamon or peppermint essential oils are irritating and you should use these options sparingly, especially when compared to orange essential oil. Essential oils are completely optional for this homemade whitening toothpaste, but they can make it taste better. You may want to use grapefruit or lemon essential oil.

Before we get to the recipe, we must discuss activated charcoal. It is a great ingredient for whitening teeth because it helps remove surface stains. Incorporating it into a recipe is much better for your teeth because it isn’t as harsh as using it with water alone. Activated charcoal also helps to improve the pH level of your mouth, making it more alkaline to protect against cavities and gingivitis

Homemade Natural Whitening Toothpaste

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup calcium carbonate powder
  • 3 tablespoons xylitol powder
  • 1/4 cup MCT oil
  • 2 teaspoons activated charcoal powder
  • 20 drops essential oil of choice (optional and see above information)

Instructions:

  • Before you begin, make sure that the xylitol powder is finely ground and not coarse. If necessary, add it to a coffee grinder and blitz until very fine.
  • Add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and whisk to combine. Transfer the mixture to a glass jar or squeeze tube and use as needed when you brush your teeth.
  • Store in a cool area and do not allow water to get into the jar or tube of toothpaste.

In skin care products, there are two types of ingredients: the high-tech, lab-made molecules, and natural ingredients from plants. Honey falls under the latter category and it’s been used for both medicinal and beauty applications for thousands of years. Ancient Sumerian tablets indicate that humans used honey in cosmetics as early as 2100 BC. It’s fair to say, then, that honey is one of the oldest natural skin care ingredients.

What Is Manuka Honey?

There are many types of honey, with one of the most prized varieties being Manuka honey. This semi-opaque, creamy honey is made from the nectar of the Manuka plant. Native to New Zealand and Australia, the Manuka bush blooms small whitish pink flowers. Most honey that you purchase is made from a variety of different flower nectars, but Manuka honey is exclusively crafted from Manuka flowers. Because of that distinction, Manuka honey has a rich golden hue and high concentration of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. In fact, various studies confirm that Manuka honey has a higher pH and sugar content than other honeys, and researchers believe that those attributes enhance the antibacterial activity

The Antibacterial Properties

In the late 1800s, researchers discovered that honey contains glucose oxidase, an enzyme that converts sugar into a mild, bleach-like antiseptic you probably have at home: hydrogen peroxide. What makes Manuka honey so valuable is that in addition to hydrogen peroxide, it contains methylglyoxal. This compound is an even stronger antibacterial agent than hydrogen peroxide. Some studies suggest that it may fight against strong bacteria like Staphylococcus or E.coli. What does that mean for your skin? The antibacterial activity in Manuka honey may help combat blemishes, infections, and even impetigo.

Keeps Skin Hydrated And Soft

Honey is probably not the first ingredient you think of in regards to moisturizing the skin. Manuka honey may be very effective at battling dry, cracked skin because it exhibits emollient and humectant properties. Emollients fill the spaces between the cracks to promote softer skin, whereas humectants draw moisture from the air into the skin to boost hydration. Manuka honey is also useful for fighting flaky skin and general irritation, both of which are symptoms of dry or dehydrated skin.

May Reduce Signs Of Aging

Manuka honey exhibits anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, which work to fight bacteria and promote healing. Additionally, Manuka honey provides optimal moisture, which is vital if you want to reduce signs of aging. Dry and cracked skin is more prone to wrinkles, discoloration, age spots, and fine lines. The antioxidants in Manuka honey also promote healing and may even enhance collagen production, which keeps the skin looking younger. Plus, the bleach-like qualities from the hydrogen peroxide in Manuka honey may help clear up skin discolorations.

Manuka Honey Body Butter

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  • Put the coconut butter, coconut oil, and shea butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Keep on the heat until fully melted.
  • Remove from the heat and pour the mixture into a heat-safe bowl. Allow the mixture to sit until it is opaque. You can accelerate this process by putting the mixture in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
  • Once the mixture is ready, use a hand mixer to whip it up. Add the Manuka honey and continue whipping with the hand mixer until light and fluffy.
  • Transfer the body butter to a glass container and store in the fridge until ready to use.

The United States currently leads the world in monkeypox cases, and national and global numbers continue to rise. Although the virus has predominantly spread among men who have sex with men, some women and children are now contracting the illness. Recently, the first case in a pet was reported. It was an Italian greyhound in Paris, France.

Due to the fact that there are more than 42,900 cases of monkeypox across 95 countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a global health emergency. The WHO calculated nearly 7,500 new cases in the week prior to August 17, 2022, marking a 20% increase from the previous week. After the United States, Spain has the largest outbreak, with 6,119 cases, followed by Brazil with 3,450 cases. Germany comes in fourth with 3,295 cases, and the United Kingdom with 3,081 cases.

Before this current outbreak, most human cases of monkeypox came from close contact with infected animals while farming or hunting. Monkeypox is dissimilar to smallpox in that it does not exclusively infect humans. Monkeypox is an orthopoxvirus, which is less discriminating in its host. That means that squirrels, prairie dogs, rats, and groundhogs can be infected.

What Pet Owners Should Know

There are more dogs and cats in the U.S. than the combined human populations of Australia and The U.K. The role that these animals play in the spread of infectious diseases within households has been ignored. Because monkeypox can jump species, health experts want people to think how a human infection affects pets. It gets dangerous when an animal infects another animal, and another, and another. If too many animals contract the virus, they can pass it back to humans in a more altered, vicious form. That’s when you start to see a rapid evolution of the virus, which is the last thing the world needs. If

Earlier this month, the Lancet medical journal published a scientific account of the first human-to-dog monkeypox transmission. The dog was an Italian greyhound in Paris, France, and it caught it from his infected owners by sleeping in their bed. Veterinarians want people to understand that pets show affection for owners. They climb in their bed, lick their faces, nuzzle their skin, and go wherever they go. All of these habits are potential transmission pathways. An infected pet can easily pass the virus to other animals via bites, scratches, feces, or urine.

Concerns About Human To Dog Transmission

Before people get up in arms about a serious monkeypox outbreak in pets, there are a few things to know. A severe outbreak may not result just because one case of human-to-dog infection occurred. Veterinarians just want people to understand that pets, especially dogs, are easily susceptible to monkeypox. Additionally, there is no evidence on paper that reported just how much monkeypox was found in the dog’s DNA. That means that the dog may not have had enough for an active infection. Reports about the dog’s antibodies to monkeypox have not been documented either.

If People Have Monkeypox, Should They Isolate From Pets?

Anyone with a known infection or suspected exposure should not engage in close contact with their pet. Additionally, anyone who is immunocompromised and living in the same house with an infected person should isolate or leave during the infection period. Any and all animals should be kept in isolation from all other animals and people for at least 21 days after the pet’s first known exposure to the virus. That means no dog park!

Lastly, do not surrender, euthanize, or abandon pets just because of a potential monkeypox exposure. Keep the pets isolated after exposure to keep them and everyone safe from infection. Additionally, don’t bathe or wipe your pet with chemical disinfectants, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide. If you are infected and cannot be isolated from your pet, make sure to wash your hands or care for them with gloves before and after caring for them.

A classic summer activity is a day at the beach, lake, or pool. You absorb some sun, enjoy snacks, socialize, and enjoy time in the refreshing water. When you spend a lot of time in the water, you run the risk of developing swimmer’s ear, which can make your enjoyable day take a turn for the worse.

What Is Swimmer’s Ear?

Swimmer’s ear, Otitis externa, is an acute inflammatory condition that occurs within the tissue of the outer ear canal. This canal runs from your eardrum to the outside of your head. The condition typically affects children, but adults can also develop the problem, which tends to result from swimming in lakes or oceans. It tends to affect the outer ear, but the inner ear canal can also become infected. The ears are very susceptible to infection because moisture and bacteria can get trapped inside, similar to nasal passageways. This is why long days at the lake or beach can put you at risk for swimmer’s ear. The constant wetness and moisture can lead to bacterial buildup and inflammation.

With swimmer’s ear, the affected person commonly experiences throbbing or general pain. Swimmer’s ear tends to affect about three to 10% of the population on a recurring basis. An additional two million people experience swimmer’s ear every year, which tends to last less than six weeks. Chronic infections, however, can last more than three months, but this is very rare. The most common symptoms include:

  • Itching in the ear canal
  • Slight redness inside the ear
  • Drainage of clear, odorless fluid
  • Irritation or discomfort that worsens when you pull on the outer ear
  • Excessive fluid drainage
  • Decreased or muffled hearing
  • Increasing pain

What Causes Swimmer’s Ear?

Bacteria is typically the cause of the swimmer’s ear infection. Some people think that a fungus or virus leads to swimmer’s ear, but this is seldom the case. The infection happens because the ear’s natural defenses have been overwhelmed. You see, the ear has outer canals that keep them clean and protected. There is a thin, water-repellent layer of acidic film that lines the ear canal to discourage bacterial growth. The outer ear also helps prevent foreign things from entering the ear canal. Excess moisture in the ear, however, creates an environment for bacterial growth, which causes the infection. Contaminated water and damage to the ear canal can also cause the infection.

Although you can see a doctor to receive prescription ear drops to get rid of swimmer’s ear, there are natural remedies that may provide equal relief. Continue reading to learn which ones may help.

Hydrogen Peroxide

We feel the need to say that placing hydrogen peroxide in your ear is an interesting feeling, to say the least. Hydrogen peroxide does have antiseptic properties that may help to kill the bacteria in the ear. However, it can also destroy healthy bacteria, so you may want to dilute it by mixing one part hydrogen peroxide with one part water. To use, dip a cotton swab into the solution and gently clean the ear canal. Don’t penetrate the ear! You can also tilt your head to the side and drop three drops of the solution in the ear, allowing it to sit for 30 seconds before draining.

Heat Therapy

It’s a well known fact that heat can help soothe pain and inflammation, especially in regards to swimmer’s ear. Hold a hot water bottle, which you wrap in cloth, against the infected ear for five to 10 minutes. You can also use a heating pad or therapeutic heating wrap if you have one of those items. Apply the heat a few times a day until the infection clears.

Don’t Remove Earwax

It can be tempting to go into the ear in an attempt to remove earwax, but it serves several important functions. Earwax works to protect your ears from bad bacteria and helps to prevent moisture from accumulating. Don’t use cotton swabs inside the ear to remove wax, especially if you are prone to infection. If you feel that you produce more earwax than normal, consider talking with an expert about this to figure out the right treatment.

Garlic Oil Drops

Garlic exhibits antibacterial properties that may be beneficial in treating swimmer’s ear. You can purchase garlic ear oil at health food stores, but you can also make garlic oil yourself. Mince a few cloves of garlic and add them to a jar with extra virgin olive oil. Allow the garlic to infuse in the oil overnight and then strain the garlic. Use a dropper to place three to five drops of garlic oil in the affected ear. Plug the ear with a clean cotton ball and lie down on your side, keeping the plugged ear facing up. Stay in this position for about 10-15 minutes and then let the oil drain. Repeat twice per day until symptoms are gone.

Honey is more than a sweetener for herbal tea. It’s an incredibly popular home remedy for improving the overall health of your skin. From reducing acne to improving the symptoms of eczema, honey is a superstar in the world of alternative remedies. It exhibits powerful antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing properties, making it excellent for topical application.

It’s estimated that there are about 300 different types of honey, due to the variety of flowers from which honeybees gain nectar. The type of honey and the processing of it will dictate how beneficial it is for the body. When it comes to topical application, most natural remedies use organic raw honey or Manuka honey, which seems to be the most beneficial.

What Is Manuka Honey?

Manuka honey is made by bees that pollinate the Manuka flower, which is native to New Zealand. The reason Manuka honey is expensive is because the flower only blooms for two to six weeks out of the year, so it’s not abundant and neither is its production. What makes Manuka honey different from other types of local honey is the Manuka flower itself. It exhibits non-peroxide activity and active compounds that set it apart from regular honey. When you purchase Manuka honey, make sure to look for a UMFTM mark on the label. Standing for Unique Manuka Factor, this trademark indicates that the honey came from licensed beekeepers, producers, and exporters of genuine New Zealand Manuka honey.

Can Manuka Honey Treat Eczema?

Certified dermatologists explain that, while there is no cure, Manuka honey has the potential to help reduce eczema symptoms and severity. The antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity helps to minimize swelling, redness, and other skin issues when they arise, for example, during a flare-up. According to 2018 research, the non-peroxide and antimicrobial activity in Manuka honey have calming effects on inflamed skin. Additionally, the concentration of methylglyoxal, its active ingredient, releases hydrogen peroxide. This may aid with wound repair, which would accelerate the healing of eczema patches.

A separate 2018 review found that Manuka honey exhibits properties that help promote tissue healing. It works to stimulate macrophages, which aid the removal of dead cells and encourage the production of new, healthy cells. A smaller 2017 study determined if Manuka honey was able to heal atopic dermatitis lesions. Participants in the study found that the lesions improved after regular application. The honey also helped to reduce inflammation in those individuals.

How Does It Work?

First of all, should a person want to use Manuka honey to help remedy eczema, it’s best to use medical-grade honey. This ensures that the honey is free of contaminants. Medical-grade Manuka honey stimulates an inflammatory response that establishes a protective barrier between the skin and the environment. Experts believe that Manuka honey has increased antimicrobial activity against numerous microorganisms. The natural chemicals in Manuka honey, which aren’t present in other honey varieties, can help fight bacteria.

  • Dihydroxyacetone: is only found in the nectar of the Manuka flower and it becomes methylglyoxal during the honey-making process.
  • Methylglyoxal: is a natural chemical that has powerful antimicrobial activity.
  • Other Active Components: include a series of compounds and properties that also exhibit antimicrobial properties. Some of the most notable include hydrogen peroxide, hyper-osmolality effect, bee-defensin-1, and the naturally acidic pH level.

How To Use Manuka Honey For Eczema

Wash hands thoroughly and then pat dry. Apply a thin layer of Manuka honey to the affected area in the evening. Cover the area using gauze or a bandage and leave the dressing on overnight. Gently remove the dressing and clean the area in the morning. It’s important to note that Manuka is not a cure for eczema and you should not apply it if you are sensitive to honey or have an allergy. Results may vary from person to person or depending on the severity of the condition. Manuka honey is also pricey, so it can be an expensive natural remedy for people. It’s best to buy medical-grade Manuka honey for safety reasons, though.

We can’t deny the effectiveness of hand washing when it comes to preventing the spread of infectious disease like COVID-19, but soap and water are not always available. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer, which contains at least 60% alcohol, is the next best option. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, hand sanitizer was readily available in stores and pharmacies. Rather than letting anxiety levels skyrocket because you can’t buy hand sanitizer, make your own instead.

You don’t need to panic if your favorite disinfectant products or hand sanitizer is not available in stores because you can easily make your own. For example, click here if you want to make a homemade disinfectant spray. Unless you stockpiled hand sanitizer, which you should not do, chances are that you need the recipe in this article.

A Word About Hand Sanitizers

It is imperative that you understand that hand sanitizers should not take the place of hand washing. Alcohol-based disinfectants like hand sanitizer are effective in a pinch. Obviously, a sink with soap and water is not always within reach, but a good old-fashioned scrub is the best way to protect yourself against contagious diseases. When you do use hand sanitizer, make sure to rub your hands together for 25-30 seconds.

Are DIY Hand Sanitizers Safe?

Given that there are so many DIY hand sanitizer recipes all over the internet, it is valid to wonder if they are in fact safe to use. One thing to keep in mind is that a DIY recipe must contain isopropyl alcohol with 91-99% alcohol content. If the alcohol percentage in a hand sanitizer recipe is below 60%, then it isn’t effective at killing germs. According to the hand sanitizer recipe on the World Health Organization’s website, it is closer to a liquid gel. It can be a little harsh on the hands if you have sensitive skin. Click here if you want hand sanitizer recipes that are gentler on the skin. Note that the recipes in that link do not meet the CDC’s 60% alcohol content benchmark.

Hand Sanitizer Recipe

The World Health Organization (WHO) approves this recipe, but we’ve reduced the amounts of each ingredient. The reason for this is because the recipe on the WHO website results in 2.6 gallons of hand sanitizer. We figured that you don’t need that much, so start off with the following amount and see if you like it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup 99% isopropyl alcohol
  • 1 tablespoon 3% hydrogen peroxide
  • 1 teaspoon 98% glycerin
  • ¼ cup distilled water

Instructions:

  • Pour the alcohol into a medium-sized measuring cup that has a pour spout.
  • Add the hydrogen peroxide and give it a gentle stir before pouring the glycerin into the mixture. Because glycerin is thicker, it will take time to combine everything. Get your whisking muscles ready for action because you’ll need them.
  • Pour in the distilled water and stir to combine.
  • Carefully pour the mixture into a spray bottle and screw on the top. To avoid the ingestion of this hand sanitizer, please label it that it is in fact hand sanitizer. The last thing you want is for someone to ingest this mixture.
  • Now go kill some germs, people.

If you find disinfectant wipes in stores right now, consider yourself lucky. Cleaning supplies, disinfectant products, and antibacterial soaps are scarce because people are stocking up on anything and everything that could help combat the coronavirus. What do you do if you can’t get your hands on your usual cleaning supplies? What if online shipping is delayed and you are low on supplies? There’s no need to panic because you can easily make disinfectant products like the disinfectant wipes in this article.

In order to effectively keep your home free of coronavirus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends regularly disinfecting high-touch surfaces like doorknobs, kitchen counters, faucets, tables, bathrooms, and phones. It is also beneficial to clean your groceries upon bringing them into your home. To properly clean everything, though, you need to have the right ingredients.

Items You Can Use

According to Dean Davies, cleaning supervisor for Fantastic Services, which specializes in antiviral sanitation, you only need a handful of items to make DIY cleaning products. You may already have them in your cabinets and you don’t even know it. The following products are EPA-registered disinfectants that have been effective at combatting coronavirus.

Isopropyl Alcohol

As we mentioned in our post about DIY disinfectant spray (click here to view), you need to purchase isopropyl alcohol with a 70% concentration in order for it to be effective against coronavirus. Isopropyl alcohol has disinfecting qualities when it is left on a surface for at least 30 seconds. It is safe for all surfaces, but it may discolor certain plastics. Do a spot test first before using it everywhere.

Household Bleach

When properly diluted, bleach is effective at killing bacteria and viruses. The CDC recommends diluting four teaspoons of bleach in one quart of water. If that is all you are using to clean the house, let this solution sit on whichever surface you are cleaning for 10 minutes before wiping it away. Don’t ever combine bleach with ammonia, rubbing alcohol, or acidic compounds like vinegar because it can create dangerous chemical compounds.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide has been proven to be effective against bacteria, yeasts, fungi, viruses, and other microorganisms. Make sure that you buy hydrogen peroxide that is at least 3% for it to be effective at killing germs. Additionally, keep in mind that it needs to remain on a surface for six to eight minutes before wiping it off.

Disposable Disinfectant Wipes

Ingredients:

  • 1 roll of paper towels
  • 1/3-1/2 cup household bleach
  • 1 gallon of water
  • tall airtight container that is big enough to fit a roll of paper towels
  • gloves for handling bleach

Instructions:

  • Put on your gloves and pour the water into the tall, large airtight container. Pour in the bleach and gently stir to combine.
  • Place the entire roll of paper towels in the bleach solution, cover, and allow the towels to soak for five minutes.
  • Pour excess bleach solution into a spray bottle and use it for cleaning other surfaces in the house. Store the paper towels in that airtight container and use when ready.

Reusable Disinfecting Wipes

Ingredients:

  • An old T-shirt or cotton fabric
  • 2/3 cup 99% isopropyl alcohol
  • 1/3 cup water

Instructions:

  • Cut the T-shirt or cotton fabric into squares that are similar in size to regular disinfectant wipes.
  • In a large airtight container, mix the isopropyl alcohol and water.
  • Gently place the fabric squares into this solution, cover the container, and let them soak for 10 minutes.
  • Drain the solution and keep the soaked fabric squares in a sealed container. Use when ready.
  • You can store the used wipes in another airtight container. Wash the used wipes in the washer on a hot water setting before you remake the solution and soak them again for reuse.

Medical professionals have used antibiotics as conventional medicine to remedy bacterial infections since the 1940s. The use of natural antibiotics became a rarity until recently, when people realized the side effects and other health problems caused by prescription antibiotics.

When it comes to taking prescription antibiotics, one in ten people experiences side effects that harm the digestive system. Each drug-based antibiotic you swallow slowly damages destroys the healthy gut flora in the digestive system. Additionally, consuming prescription antibiotics can weaken the immune system, increase food sensitivities, induce inflammation, or cause nutritional deficiencies.

People pop prescription antibiotics like candy. The more you take, the more damage you do to your body. According to the CDC, one in three patients, who are prescribed antibiotics, don’t actually need them. Because of how readily people consume these types of antibiotics, they can start to develop antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Rather than damaging your body, look to natural antibiotics to help fight infection without destroying your gut!

Traditional healers have used this super herb for hundreds of years to treat infections and wounds. According to a recent study published in the Journal of Biomedicine, Echinacea is effective at killing various bacteria, including S. pyogenes, which is responsible for toxic shock syndrome and strep throat. Echinacea can also fight inflammation, which is commonly associated with bacterial infections.

Cinnamon

As one of the world’s most common spices, cinnamon is readily available. This ordinary spice has powerful antifungal and antibacterial properties that can destroy fungal infections and the compounds, which those infections produce, that cause tissue damage. For skin-based infections, you can apply cinnamon oil with a little manuka honey to the affected area. Drinking cinnamon tea sweetened with organic raw honey may fight off cold or flu viruses.

Manuka Honey

Honey has been used topically on wounds for thousands of years to help prevent infection. Many health professionals agree that manuka honey can help treat burns, ulcers, bedsores, and skin grafts. The antibacterial properties in honey are typically attributed to the hydrogen peroxide content; however, manuka honey has a lower hydrogen peroxide content and can inhibit about 60 different strains of bacteria. Studies have even shown that manuka honey can kill staph infections.

Goldenseal

Usually consumed as a tea or in capsule form, goldenseal is commonly used to treat digestive or respiratory issues. In fact, recent studies found that goldenseal can help prevent staph infection. Additionally, goldenseal contains berberine, which is an important component of natural antibiotics. Warning: berberine is not safe for infants or women who are breastfeeding or pregnant. Goldenseal can also interfere with certain medications so make sure to check with you health care professional if you plan on taking it.

Oil of Oregano

Oil of oregano is the distilled extract of medicinal-grade oregano, and it is not meant for culinary use. The active compounds in oil of oregano are carvacrol and thymol, both of which help to fight of harmful pathogens. Carvacrol actually has antimicrobial effects and studies have found that it can help fight off fungal infections, allergies, inflammation, parasites, viruses, and bacterial infections. Many people have used oil of oregano to treat nail fungus, sinus infections, or yeast infections.

While prescription antibiotics have their place, it is not always necessary to consume them. Their misuse has caused people to develop antibiotic resistant bacteria in the gut. Try taking the natural approach to save your gut from unnecessary damage.

Lung cancer is one of the top killers in the world. It claims more lives than the three most common cancers (colon, breast, and pancreatic) combined. The number of lung cancer deaths keeps increasing because of the toxic world we live in. Our bodies weren’t designed to handle the toxic pollutants, processed chemicals, and genetically modified organisms/hormones that exist in the world today.

Rather than putting other chemically engineered medicine into your body, you can lower your cancer risk and kill cancer cells with herbs. Parsley is one of the best herbs for helping those with lung cancer. It is more than an herbal garnish on restaurant plates. Studies have shown that parsley’s antioxidants are some of the best for combatting the inflammatory nature of cancer cells.

The healing properties of parsley are not new. Parsley has been used by different civilizations for hundreds of years. It was used by the Romans to eliminate the odors from dead bodies before funerals, and chewing on it has long since been a way to naturally freshen one’s breath. Parsley was also used as a natural diuretic to help remedy digestive issues.

Parsley is incredibly rich in antioxidants and flavonoids that work to kill cancer cells. These antioxidants include apigenin, luteolin, coumarins, and quercetin, among several others. Some of these help to open antioxidant pathways to fight free radicals, while others inhibit tumor migration and metastasis. The other nutrients in parsley, like manganese, vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, potassium, and calcium, all work separately to decrease oxidative damage and reduce kidney and liver toxicity.

Opening detoxification pathways is one of the best ways to decrease the amount of cancer causing agents in the body. Chlorophyll is known for aiding in the formation of red blood cells, but it also helps detox heavy metals from your system. Heavy metal toxins are in the environment and the food we eat, so we are constantly exposed to them. They can disrupt proper brain, kidney, and liver function, in addition to other vital organs. Enter chlorophyll to help save the day.

Chlorophyll helps to establish a neutral pH balance in the body, which is a crucial step in reducing one’s risk of cancer development. Additionally, chlorophyll helps to increase enzymes that work to lower hydrogen peroxide levels in the body by filtering hydrogen peroxide from blood plasma.

As if parsley didn’t have enough benefits, it has more! Parsley helps to improve the health of the digestive tract, which is one of the body’s major eliminative channels. Since 80% of the immune system is located in the gut, a healthy digestive system can keep your immune system strong to help fight illnesses such as cancer. In addition to consuming parsley, you can consume probiotics like fermented vegetables, sauerkraut, kombucha, and kefir to improve your digestive system.

In closing, parsley can work wonders for the body. You can consume it in freshly made juices consisting of carrots, oranges, kale, cucumbers, apples, and romaine lettuce. The greener the juice the better! You can also flavor cooked vegetables with parsley to reap its benefits, although it is the healthiest in its raw form.

Hydrogen peroxide therapy is not new. It has been around since 1929 when doctors had no antibiotics available. It was first reported by Dr. T. H. Oliver in Lancet, The British Medical Journal! (Oliver TH, Cantab BC and Murphy DV. Influenza / Pneumonia: The Intravenous Injection of Hydrogen Peroxide, Lancet 1, 1920:432-433.) Antibiotics were discovered twenty four (24) years later.

Charles Farr, MD is generally considered to be the pioneer and father of oxidative medicine in the United States. He took patients dying from influenza pneumonia and gave them hydrogen peroxide therapy. Almost half of those patients lived. Influenza killed 30-40 million people worldwide and actually stopped World War 1 because the world was sick.

Remember that this is a treatment that predates antibiotics! We are also currently losing our effectiveness of antibiotics. This occurred as early as two years after penicillin was discovered and began being used. So, this treatment is certainly worth your consideration as it worked then and works now.

Hydrogen peroxide is a natural substance manufactured in all of our bodies. It is a product of what is called intermediary metabolism in the body and it participates in a significant number of biochemical reactions in the body. However, when we infuse hydrogen peroxide into your vein, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers this natural substance to be a “drug”. As such, the FDA considers its use in an intravenous form to be experimental. This does not mean that the procedure is illegal or dangerous or harmful-just unproven to the FDA. Aspirin, our old friend, is also an unproven drug to the FDA but it has been around for over 100 years now. As the procedure is not approved by the FDA your insurance company will not pay for the treatment.

In hydrogen peroxide therapy we are interested in the redox (oxidative-reduction) reactions involved. This is the chemical reaction whereby electrons are removed (called oxidation) from chemicals in the body being oxidized and transferred to other atoms which are being reduced (reduction). The body causes a rapid reduction of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen-the two components which actually compose hydrogen peroxide- by an enzyme called catalase. This enzyme is found in most body tissues.

Catalase is the enzyme which is of the oxidative-reductase class which catalyzes (breaks down) the reaction of hydrogen peroxide plus water to oxygen plus two water molecules. Catalase is found in nearly all cells and organs and acts as a catalyst in the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. When hydrogen peroxide comes into contact with catalase, the catalase enzyme breaks down the hydrogen peroxide to oxygen and water. This increased presence of oxygen creates the oxidative reactions which chemically increase the positive charges on an atom or the loss of negative charges. Most biological oxidations are accomplished by the removal of a pair of hydrogen atoms (dehydrogenation) from a molecule. Such oxidations must be accompanied by reduction of an acceptor molecule (Dorland’s Medical Dictionary-27th edition).

The aim of this increase in oxidative reactions in the body is to help regulate tissue repair, cellular respiration, immune functions, the energy system, most hormone systems and the production of cytokines. Cytokines are no-antibody proteins released by one cell population on contact with specific antigens which then act as intercellular mediators to generate the increase in immune response. This is the body’ mechanism of self-help and improved immunity or resistance to disease.

The oxidation created in the body by hydrogen peroxide therapy changes the chemistry of the body from reduction reactions and acid pH to oxidative reactions and basic pH. This creates theoretically more oxygen than that of a very expensive hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Many medical studies demonstrate that hydrogen peroxide therapy stimulates the immune system, kills a dozen different pathogenic bacteria and many viruses as well as many yeast and fungi. It helps to improve circulation and helped to clear arteries like chelation does in our experience. Debris deep in the lungs has the ability to be expelled instead of chronically being stored as the chemistry of the body changes. Many chronic pains are relieved for as yet unknown reasons.

Emphysema, asthma and chronic lung disease respond very well to hydrogen peroxide therapy. You will end up coughing up the debris at the base of your lungs. You will end up coughing more instead of less for awhile. However, that is what you want to do to clean out your lungs of all the debris from our dirty environment. It may take several treatments for this to occur or it may occur on the first treatment.

Many patients find that their blood pressure is actually brought down to a better level with hydrogen peroxide. The reason is yet unknown. However, we have a lot of unknowns in medicine despite our current trend toward evidence based medicine.

The normal course of therapy for lung problems is weekly for at least ten treatments over a period of ten weeks. Remember, that lung disease is a chronic problem. Do not expect any treatment to work instantly. Chronic problems require chronic treatment.

Hydrogen peroxide can help change the pH of the system so that the body can better fight cancer cells also. This is considered by many to be controversial. However, cancer cells don’t like the extra oxygen created with hydrogen peroxide therapy. They also don’t like the change of the acid base chemistry since the pH of the body returns to normal. Cancer cells seem to survive better in an acid media.

With hydrogen peroxide therapy, the acid media of cancer is gradually changed toward normal basic pH of the body (7.35-7.45). The oxidation created in the body by hydrogen peroxide changes the chemistry of the body from reduction reactions and an acid pH to oxidative reactions and a more basic pH-more nearly normal.

Other types of problems respond to hydrogen peroxide therapy as well. Each problem has to be handled individually. Sometimes, a combination of hydrogen peroxide therapy and chelation usually works best. Each case must be individually evaluated. Remember all these problems are chronic. Short therapy does not work!

Acute problems such as colds or flu may respond in as little as one to two treatments.

Nutritional supplements are a necessary fact of life today. They are necessary for your health and recovery from disease. What you need will be discussed with you on an individual basis. Supplements are not optional!

What are the risks involved with hydrogen peroxide therapy? The most common side effect with any IV (intravenous) therapy is vein inflammation and some pain with the infusion at the site of the needle or the vein. You may also experience vasculitis and / or thrombophlebitis. Sometimes this goes away in twenty minutes and other times the needle location has to be changed. An occasional patient may experience chest discomfort including a shortness of breath feeling. We slow the infusion rate down when this occurs and just wait and observe. Usually nothing else needs to be done.

Occasionally patients may experience a feeling of chills as hydrogen peroxide is an exothermic reaction (gives off heat) which decreases the body temperature on a short-term basis. Part of this reaction is included in what is known as a Herxheimer reaction. It is perfectly normal.

Whatever your problem if you choose to consider hydrogen peroxide therapy, you should be seen by a doctor or a first for an examination and evaluation.

Sometimes, depending on the condition, we can start you on hydrogen peroxide immediately. If the problem is chronic or serious we will need some lab work drawn prior to initiation of any treatment.
