The mighty pineapple is more than a drink garnish or beach snack. It is as nutritious as it is delicious and tropical, delivering a hefty dose of vitamins and minerals in every bite. Pineapple provides lots of vitamin C, vitamin B1, potassium, manganese, and an array of other compounds that may offer protection from disease formation. In fact, pineapple has been used as a remedy for everything from allergies to indigestion.

What Is Pineapple?

Besides the health perks, pineapple is relatively easy to find, inexpensive, and very versatile. Researchers refer to pineapple as the most economically significant plant in the Bromeliaceae plant family. Most of the fruit’s healing powers come from bromelain, a protein-digesting enzyme, specifically a protease enzyme. Most of the bromelain is found in the core, with lesser amounts existing in the more edible fruit.

For many years, pineapple has had a place in many homeopathic remedies. The reason for this is because its compounds work to break down proteins into smaller amino acids and peptides in the body. In fact, studies have found that pineapple acts as an anti-swelling and anti-inflammatory agent. It is also a great source of bioflavonoids, tannins, and phytochemicals, which work to fight oxidative stress.

High In Fiber

Studies show that consuming foods that are rich in fiber can help lower your risk of chronic diseases, including colorectal cancer. Fiber also helps you feel full by regulating your blood glucose levels. The high fiber content and nutritional value means that you will feel full without consuming a lot of calories. Does that make pineapple a weight loss food? Not entirely, but it can help promote regular bowel movements and reduce bloating.

Works To Protect Against Cardiovascular Disease

According to several studies, pure pineapple juice exhibits cardioprotective properties. Researchers attribute this ability to the high vitamin C and potassium content. High potassium intake is associated with lower risk of high blood pressure, stroke, and cardiovascular disease. Potassium also helps to protect against muscle loss, reduce the formation of kidney stones, and preserve bone mineral density. A randomized, single-blind, controlled study in Iraq observed 52 obese adults with type 2 diabetes. They were treated for over eight weeks, with the intervention group receiving 500-milligram bromelain capsules twice daily, in addition to their regular metformin regimen. The controlled group only received metformin. After eight weeks, the bromelain group showed significant reduces in body max index and improvements in insulin resistance

Offers Nutrients For Mental Health

A study from 2020 found that consuming fruits and vegetables with a lot of nutrients may be crucial in preventing depressive disorders. Complex carbohydrates and antioxidants found in pineapple may help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Tryptophan, an amino acid, in pineapple has demonstrated an ability to boost your mood and increase feelings of happiness. Consuming enough tryptophan, in addition to the other nutrients in pineapple, may benefit your neurological system by encouraging the production of hormones that boost your mood.

Reduces Inflammation

Pure pineapple juice may help those suffering from arthritis and joint pain. Once again, the enzyme bromelain is the reason! It exhibits strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It is also beneficial for treating sports injuries, including sprains. Essentially, bromelain works to block metabolites that cause swelling. It also helps to decrease active swelling by activating a chemical in the blood that breaks down fibrin, which ultimately reduces swelling. One study on patients with sinusitis found that bromelain increased recovery time significantly faster than standard therapy.

Aids Digestion

Yet again, you can thank bromelain for this! Pineapple works to break down protein into peptides and amino acids. In addition to benefitting overall digestion, pineapple may help ease the symptoms of acid reflux and ulcerative colitis. That suggests that bromelain can modulate inflammatory signaling in the colon tissue, potentially reducing inflammation associated with ulcerative colitis. Bromelain also seems to help prevent autoimmune responses that result from common food allergies. Several studies indicate that eating pineapple may help people who have celiac disease, an allergy to gluten, due to the presence of bromelain.

Rich In Vitamin C

Although pineapple doesn’t have a lot of calories, it does boast a lot of vitamin C. Not only does vitamin C work to encourage the formation of collagen, but it also supports immune function and minimizes cold and flu symptoms. Several studies suggest that children and adults who consume fruits and vegetables with high vitamin C content may experience protection against infections, both viral and bacterial. Vitamin C is water-soluble that helps maintain the health of the body’s connective tissues. It also acts as an antioxidant, working to fight free radicals and synthesize collagen.

There are healthier alternatives to coffee and black tea that can help energize the body. You may not feel an instantaneous jolt of energy, but you wont’ feel that same crash that comes after drinking a caffeinated beverage. The base of this juice recipe is beets, which have a naturally sweet yet earthy flavor. When you pair beets with ingredients like carrots, pineapples, and lemons, you bring out the inherent sweetness. This results in a refreshing juice, as opposed to a savory beverage.

Beets are naturally rich in iron, potassium, boron, folate, silica, phytosterols, and betaine. They have natural cleansing properties that aid liver function, and they may also help increase athletic performance. Nitrates are vasodilators, which widen blood vessels to help improve blood flow. They also relax the veins, making it so the heart doesn’t have to work as heard when it pumps blood to and from the extremities. The other ingredients also help to promote healthier digestion and natural energy. We hope you love it!

Made with all-natural, food-based ingredients that work to provide relief from coughing, a homemade cough syrup may be exactly what you need to kick your cough to the curb. Many people are quick to reach for over-the-counter remedies because they are quick and easy, yet they are anything but natural. To help ease your cough, we are providing you with an easy natural remedy that you can make with simple, healing ingredients.

What Are Coughs?

A cough is the body’s response to an irritant or infection in the body, and the act of coughing is the body’s way of getting rid of the irritant. Since there are many possible causes for coughing, including allergies, infections, and acid reflux, the best treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Before experimenting with any natural remedy, research the ingredients to make sure that your body agrees with them, or that they will not worsen your condition.

Pineapple Juice

Several studies have found that the enzyme, bromelain, in pineapples has strong anti-inflammatory properties that may reduce respiratory inflammation, specifically those that are linked to asthma and allergies. Pineapple juice helps to fight infections and destroy bacteria, and it is also rich in manganese, an essential mineral that is necessary for maintaining healthy connective tissues in the body. Pineapple even assists with metabolizing fats and carbohydrates, and increasing nerve function. For those with asthma, pineapple juice should not be the primary treatment; rather, it can be a supplemental treatment to help reduce symptoms.

Cayenne Pepper

According to Herbs for Health and Healing, cayenne pepper can help suppress the chemical that delivers pain messages from nerves in the affected area to the brain. This ability is attributed to the substance that gives cayenne pepper its spice. Cayenne also contains capsaicin, which works to decrease mucus production, thin mucus, and increase circulation.

Ginger

Known to help relieve the pain of a dry or asthmatic cough, ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties that may relax membranes in airways. When someone is experiencing a persistent cough, the common recommendation is to brew a cup of ginger tea, but ginger can also be beneficial for those with upset stomach or heartburn.

DIY Cough Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh pineapple juice
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon organic raw honey
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  • Add all of the ingredients to a blender and blitz until everything is well combined.
  • Drink ¼ cup of this mixture three times a day until your symptoms go away.

A mole is a skin lesion that is usually benign (non-cancerous) in nature. Moles are part of a group of skin lesions that include freckles, benign lentigines, seborrheic keratosis, and skin tags.

Moles are generally black or brown in color. They occur early in life and sometimes can slowly change over time. Moles are usually not something to worry about unless severe change occurs. If this happens, you should seek advice as to whether the mole had changed into something more serious.

Moles have the potential to turn into malignant melanoma, a serious form of cancer. Most moles remain benign, but if you are concerned about a mole you have, look for the ABCDE’s of melanoma:

  • A for asymmetry: If the mole looks different on one half versus the other half
  • B for irregular border: Poorly defined or irregular border
  • C for color: Multiple colors such as black, brown, blue, red, or white occur together in the same mole
  • D for diameter: If a mole is larger around than a standard pencil eraser
  • E for evolving: A mole that changes size, shape, or color

Also, keep a look out for new moles that appear or any moles that bother you. If a mole bleeds, is painful, or itches you should look into possible causes.

Moles are commonly found on the face and neck, but may occur on any area of the body. They can be found alone or in larger patches of moles.

Cause of Moles

Moles occur when skin cells called melanocytes grow in a cluster instead of being spread evenly throughout the skin. Melanocytes also give moles their pigment. Sun exposure can darken the pigment over time.

Many people are born with moles and others simply develop them during some time of their life. Moles on the body at birth are called or referred to as ‘congenital nevi.’ Moles that are hereditary in nature are called “dysplastic nevi” that are larger than average and irregular in shape.

There is a school of thought that believes moles signify past- life experiences. It is thought that were the mole occurs on the body is where a past- life trauma occurred.

Natural Solutions for Moles

Since most moles pose no threat, it is not necessary to remove them. If a mole bothers you try some of these at home remedies that may help in alleviating the condition:

  • Fresh pineapple juice
  • Garlic
  • Fig stems
  • Grapefruit juice

Applying these natural remedies to the affected area on a regular basis could help to lessen the appearance of the mole.

Dherbs Solutions

Dherbs carries several products that could help cleanse your body and lessen the severity of your mole. Some products to try include:

These products, along with a healthy diet are a great way to heal your body from and find relief from your moles.
