It is a gift to be able to make your own nut milk because you know exactly which ingredients go into it. Besides the fact that they do not contain any emulsifiers, thickening agents, or added sugars, homemade nut milks simply taste better than anything store bought. They taste fresher and are usually creamier. Because they are homemade and do not contain preservatives, they have a much shorter shelf life. Homemade nut milk, such as this strawberry cashew milk, has a shelf life of about three days, so be sure to drink it all up.

Carrageenan is probably the most common ingredient that you’ll see in a store bought nut milk. It’s a potentially carcinogenic ingredient that you should avoid if you can. Even “clean” nut milk companies will uses ingredients like carrageenan, which doesn’t instill confidence in buyers. A great nut milk should consist of a few ingredients: nuts, water, and a sweetener, such as raw agave nectar, grade A maple syrup, or dates.

For this homemade strawberry cashew milk, there is no sweetener; rather, the strawberries serve as the sweetening component. Choose your strawberries right and you’ll have a perfectly balanced sweet and slightly tart flavor. Now, you can make this strawberry cashew milk in one of two ways. Either you add all of the ingredients to a blender and then strain through a mesh sieve or nut milk bag, or you juice the strawberries and then mix that juice with the strained cashew milk. Choose your destiny and let us know how you like it!

You can’t enjoy avocado toast while cleansing, but you can enjoy the hell out of avocados. They are excellent sources of healthy fats, magnesium, fiber, potassium, and antioxidants. Adding avocados to your salads, smoothies, sauces, and even breakfasts or desserts, such as this chia pudding, can help you feel fuller for longer. That means that you won’t need to snack as much between meals.

Even though you can enjoy this chia pudding for breakfast, dessert, or a pre- or post-workout snack, it doesn’t taste like guacamole, despite how it looks. This luxurious, creamy pudding has just the right amount of sweetness, thanks to the grade A maple syrup. Should you want to elevate this recipe even more, you can add a dash of alcohol-free vanilla extract and a half of a banana. You do not have to add anything else to the recipe, although we do recommend serving the chia pudding with freshly sliced bananas or fresh berries.

When it comes to preparing this chia pudding, you can go about it a couple different ways. If you decide to make it sans machines, you will have to thoroughly mash the avocado before you mix in the other ingredients by hand. For an easier time, follow the directions (below) and use a blender. If you would rather use an immersion blender because it is your fun new kitchen toy, then go for it! The only suggestion we have for all preparation methods is to fold in the chia seeds by hand, as opposed to blending them.

Isn’t it amazing when you get to wake up a little later on a Saturday morning? The sun peaks through your curtains/blinds and helps you wake up when you enter the rest of your house. Basking in the glow of morning sunshine helps to boost your mood and provide natural energy. Maybe you sip some morning tea or lemon water and pop a squat on your couch while doing so. The only other thing that can enhance a morning such as this is a refreshing and nourishing cucumber grapefruit juice.

Juice is so easy to make, even if you don’t have a juicer. As a quick note for people who want to make juice without juicers, blend your ingredients in a blender and then pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve, pressing the pulp to extract as much liquid as possible. You may end up with some bits and pieces in your juice, but the flavor is there and that’s what matters! Just keep in mind that your blended mixture will not yield as much juice as is in the blender. This is because you remove the fiber from the ingredients, which is leftover in the pulp.

This cucumber grapefruit juice is low in calories and incredibly refreshing. The spicy kick from the ginger adds a little zing that wakes up your palate. Both cucumber and grapefruit have a water content that exceeds 90%, so they aid your hydration efforts. Grapefruit is rich in vitamin C, which aids immune function, and it may help prevent insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes. Studies suggest that eating grapefruit can help regulate blood sugar levels and keep insulin levels controlled. How amazing is that?!

If you frequent the grocery store, you have probably noticed and increase in the amount of vegan food products. People who are lactose intolerant, or those who prefer dairy-free food options, greatly appreciate the increase in vegan food substitutes. That said, many of these products contain a lot of processed ingredients and excess sodium. Unfortunately, that is not great news for your health, which is why we always encourage people to make their own homemade versions, for example, this vegan cream cheese.

Cashew cream cheese is the perfect spread for bread, crackers, bagels, and more. It also makes for a great dip and you can incorporate it into all sorts of no-bake appetizers or desserts, such as cheesecake or cream cheese truffles. Not only is this cream cheese dairy-free, but it is also gluten-free, grain-free, paleo, and easy to prepare. You only need a blender and three simple ingredients: cashews, coconut oil, and lemon juice. Sea salt, nutritional yeast, and onion powder are listed as optional ingredients on the ingredient list. You can easily flavor your cream cheese with one, two, or all of those ingredients!

This recipe requires you to soak the cashews in boiling water for about 15 to 20 minutes. This helps to soften the cashews, allowing them to blend smoothly. Let’s face it: nobody wants a grainy or nutty cream cheese. Soaking the cashews helps make this spread the creamiest vegan cream cheese ever! Although you can use a high-speed blender, a food processor will yield a creamier consistency. Let us know how you like it in the comments below.

We always like to say that people who do not like salads just haven’t found the right dressing yet. A great dressing is something that you can enjoy on salads, bowls, tacos, entrees, or even as a dip. You love it so much that you want to drench everything in it! That’s how we feel about this garlic sunflower seed dressing, which is 100% raw vegan and gluten-free. It looks like ranch, but tastes way better and offers more nutrients.

If you have a nut allergy, sunflower seeds can be great alternatives to cashews, which you commonly see in raw vegan creations. That is especially true when making raw cheeses, dressings, sauces, and more. Not only are sunflower seeds fairly inexpensive, but they also exhibit an impressive nutritional profile. In fact, sunflower seeds are high in protein, healthy fats, and antioxidants, which work to protect your cells from damaging free radicals. Sunflower seeds also contain magnesium, potassium, fiber, and oleic and linoleic acids. Some studies even found that they may aid in efforts to lower blood pressure and serum cholesterol levels!

The reason that you soak sunflower seeds prior to blending them is to yield a smoother consistency. Soaked sunflower seeds blend more easily, which is great if you don’t have the most high-speed blender. You can also make this dressing in the food processor if you prefer that method, or you simply don’t trust your blender. We hope you enjoy this dressing as much as we do!

This Granny Smith applesauce is not only 100% raw vegan, but it also comes together in a matter of minutes. Granny Smith apples are the green ones, in case you didn’t know, and they provide a touch of tartness to the applesauce. If you do not enjoy the subtly tart flavor of Granny Smith apples, you can opt for whatever your favorite apple is. Some people may prefer Gala apples, while other may enjoy Honeycrisp or Fuji varieties.

This applesauce only contains five ingredients: Granny Smith apples, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The lemon juice complements the tart apple flavor, while the warming cinnamon and nutmeg give you that signature fall essence. Should you require more sweetness, you can drizzle in a little grade A maple syrup or raw agave nectar. We happen to like the tarter flavor that this applesauce provides, but to each their own.

As long as you have a food processor or high-speed blender, this recipe will come together in five minutes or less. Blend everything until you reach your desired consistency. Some people prefer applesauce that is luxuriously smooth, while others enjoy a little chunkiness. You don’t want to have huge apple cubes in there, though! When you serve it in a bowl, feel free to add a little pinch of cinnamon to the top. You can also refrigerate for 30 minutes before you enjoy if you want it colder. We hope you like this healthy snack!

What makes a good recipe? First and foremost, the flavors have to be on point. Without great flavors and some different textures, a meal may not intrigue your palate. This recipe packs a flavorful punch and has a texture that is similar to tapioca pudding, only it doesn’t contain the excess sugars and preservatives that packaged tapioca has. Banana chia pudding only requires three ingredients and about five minutes of your time. Then you place the pudding in the fridge overnight to set and it will be ready to eat in the morning.

To make this banana chia pudding, you will need a ripe banana, chia seeds, and some homemade almond milk (click here for that recipe). You can make a very simple almond milk with raw almonds and water, or you can add some dates or agave for natural sweetness. Once you make your almond milk, you will have about three days to use it before it goes bad. Pour the almond milk into the blender with banana and blend until smooth and creamy. Add the chia seeds and pulse the blender a few times. You don’t want to over-blend the seeds because you want the chia pudding to set in the fridge overnight.

Because this chia pudding contains banana, you don’t need to add natural sweeteners like grade A maple syrup or raw agave nectar. If, for whatever reason, you require more sweetness, add a drizzle of grade A maple syrup and mix in. You can also top your chia pudding with banana slices, raw almond butter, or blueberries for more flavor.

Lately, people are incorporating new and exciting wellness trends into their daily routines. From cold plunges and red light therapy to tea baths and mobility exercises, many wellness trends help keep the body as healthy as possible. There has never been a more exciting time to be alive with so many therapies, diet information, and healing modalities at your fingertips.

One such wellness trend is wellness shots, which are intensely flavored drinks that typically contain a lot of vitamin C. Each wellness shot tends to be a variation of lemon, ginger, and turmeric. You can usually see them in certain grocery stores or health food stores, with little two-ounce bottles at a price point of four dollars or more. If you want to save some money and get more bang for your buck, you can easily make these shots at home.

Wellness Shots vs. Lemon Water

A lot of people like to enjoy a glass of water with freshly-squeezed lemon to start their day. In case you don’t do that, doing so can have a positive impact on your health. Some of the health benefits include:

  • Improves immune function
  • Detoxifies the liver
  • Helps energize the body
  • May improve appearance of skin
  • Helps hydrate the body
  • Helps relieve morning sickness

In case you do not drink lemon water and want to try out this trend, start with two cups of water and stir in the juice of half a lemon. After you experiment with this simple creation, you can board the train to the land of wellness shots. They help you start your day with a little kick, energizing your cells and boosting immunity

Morning Wellness Shot Benefits

Although these are not a cure-all tonic, they do exhibit some unique health properties. A wellness shot is essentially a blend of concentrated nutrients. When you pair these wellness shots with a whole food diet and regularly exercise, they may help you combat fatigue and boost energy. It is very common for people to enjoy them during back-to-school times to take action against viruses. Many people get sick during the winter, making that time of year another popular time for wellness shots. Additionally, drinking these wellness shots may help your digestive system if you’re experiencing bloating or gas.

How To Make Your Own Wellness Shots

It is very easy to make these wellness shots, especially if you use a basic recipe. Some recipes don’t even require a juicer! Even if the recipe calls for a juicer, it will only take you five minutes to make. If you like your juice less frothy, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve and discard the pulp. Sometimes, you can get creative and add a few ingredients of your choice, but these recipes are far from complex. Simple ingredients and recipe steps for some healthy concoctions.

The Classic

These two ingredients may also enhance energy levels and boost metabolism. Ginger is rich in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and helps to improve brain, heart, and immune function.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 c raw ginger root, washed & chopped
  • 1/2 c freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 pinch ground turmeric
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp. raw agave nectar

Instructions:

  • First off, make sure that you don’t peel the ginger root. Add it to a high-speed blender and blend on high until you see fine pieces.
  • Pour the lemon juice, cayenne, turmeric, and agave into the blender and continue blending until you get a cloudy mixture.
  • Stop blending and then pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, pushing the pulp against the screen to get the most juice possible.
  • You can save the pulp if you want and add it to a smoothie within 24 hours, as long as you refrigerate the pulp.
  • Store the juice in little shots in the fridge for up to a week, or you can pour the juice in an ice cube tray, freeze, and use whenever you want.

Lemon, Ginger, And Fruit Shot

If you want to make your wellness shot more palatable, then you should start with this before diving straight into turmeric and lemon juice. Plus, adding fruits like pineapple, cherries, berries, or oranges, can increase the antioxidant profile. The recipe is as follows:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lemon, peeled and quartered
  • 1-inch piece of ginger
  • 1/4 of an orange, peeled

Instructions:

  • Process all of the ingredients through a juicer and enjoy within 15 minutes.

Pineapple Ginger Wellness Shot

A great way to keep the immune system in tip top shape is by consuming foods that contain vitamin C and anti-inflammatory properties. All of the ingredients in these pineapple ginger wellness shots help to enhance immune function.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pineapple, cubed
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 2 tbsp ginger root, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 2 tsp turmeric root
  • Dash of black pepper

Instructions:

  • Add all of the ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend for about 30 seconds to one minute.
  • Pour the blended mixture through a strainer and into a wide-mouthed container. Make sure to press the pulp to extract as much juice as you can.
  • Store in the fridge and enjoy within 3 days. Ideally, drink a two- or four-ounce shot at once.
  • You can sweeten with a little raw agave nectar if the flavor is too intense for you.

There’s nothing better or easier than a blender dressing. Add all of the ingredients to the blender, blitz until smooth, and then enjoy immediately. Blender dressings thoroughly incorporate all of the ingredients, and you can always adjust flavors if necessary. With this Thai dressing, you may need to tinker with measurements to appease your palate, but the recipe is evenly balanced.

Not only is this Thai dressing great on salads, but it also works as a marinade or dipping sauce. In addition to being raw vegan, this recipe happens to be Whole30- and paleo-approved. That’s what happens when you focus on real foods! The raw almond butter provides a nutty, slightly salty flavor that is balanced by the coconut aminos, dates, and lime juice. If you know Thai flavors, you know that there are many ingredients, but they all balance each other out. You have citrus, spice, nutty, sweet, salty, and every other nook and cranny of the flavor spectrum!

One thing to keep in mind when making this dressing is that you have to use a neutral-flavored oil. That doesn’t mean that you go straight for unhealthy vegetable or corn oil; rather, use avocado oil or grapeseed oil instead of olive oil. The recipe calls for avocado oil, but grapeseed oil is an acceptable replacement. Olive oil will alter the flavor because it has a specific flavor that doesn’t necessarily mesh with the rest of the ingredients.
